l.Cool little hangout with great decor and vibe. Keen to come back for a pint sometime.
Coffee was rubbish though. Not sure what happened, perhaps the soy was off?
V.Great little spot. The fried chicken is outstanding. The hand cup chips are perfectly cooked and seasoned. The Townshend Hazy IPA 👌🏽. 5 stars!

Staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is clean and in keeping with the location. Good selection of booze and nibbles.

T.I just love this cosy quirky place. Such great ambiance and definitely not run of the mill nor are the colourful patrons who are characters just like this character filled establishment. This is my 2nd visit in the past 4 years. I loved it the first time and this latest visit did not disappoint. The menu is not extensive but it doesnt need to be. The 4 dishes we ordered were superb! Cooked to perfection, tasty as hell! I gave the chef that feedback too. Why wouldn't you when it's well deserved. The bar service person was a little lax I guess it could be interpreted as part of the charm to be honest so be prepared to be pro active to get what you want. Highly recommended
R.Small cafe-style restaurant on the Main Street in Lyttelton. Popped over to grab some lunch on New Years Day and go for a swim. So glad we stopped here. Ordered calamari, Spanish meatballs (see pic), beef cheek and ginger beer batter fish. Food was delicious. Portions not too big and price was very reasonable. Washed down with coffee, ginger beer, lemonade and a local brew. Staff were young and friendly, and very professional. Highly recommended. Will go back ourselves, sans kids next time so we can linger longer.
C.I've lived here for six years and this may be the best food I've had so far. The seasonal greens were gorgeous and the brie had a light smokiness that made me melt. Also great local beer on tap!

S.Had a fantastic lunch today with my partner! Very cosy atmosphere with the warm fireplace and wooden furniture. Coffee had a good kick to it, the fries were bloody awesome! We had the fried chicken toasties with a whole heap of pickles in them. The best toasties in town to be honest. We really look forward to visiting again for lunch, dinner or a drink one night! Cannot wait 🙂

K.I've been here many many times over the past 6 years. There's a great range of food with goid vegetarian options. Excellent service, great staff, always a good atmosphere. Dog friendly. Kid friendly.

C.We live a 40 minute drive away from C&N, but my partner and I often talk each other into “just popping over to Lyttelton” under the guise of some errand, when we both know it’s because we want an excuse to go to C&N. It really is that good!!! Great vibe, interesting clientele, how they produce that quality of food in a space that small will always be a mystery(?!), and drinks menu and options are local leaning and with great variety. I’m pregnant at the moment, and they also have some great non alcoholic options. Favourite bar in Canterbury, without a doubt!
E.Great coffee, friendly staff & a casual atmosphere with a dog friendly attitude. But, they also have the best calamari dish that is just the right size to share with our coffees
J.Great little find, this one - with an alternative feel. Small menu but a great mix of items to cover for most tastes. Also, great value with 3 people fed for just over $50 from the shared items menu (incl coffees). Everyone enjoyed all the items ordered. Indoor seating as well as some sunny outdoor seating as well.

The food is always extremely delicious and the selection of drinks is fantastic. Interior is very tasteful and cosy and service is very lovely. The fire place there on a colder day is a real treat. Highly recommending at any time of the day.

E.This quaint little cozy bar packs a punch! After searching for hours for somewhere to eat outside of Christchurch on a Tuesday, we stumbled upon this place and had one of the best meals (and beers) we’ve ever had. Definitely go here!

Prior to all that I had a great coffee: with my family; all of us agreed- damn fine coffee. We didn’t eat, but the food served next to us looked tasty and fresh. Sure smelt good. I don’t reckon you can go wrong here.
I.Great bar! Nice warm cosy ambience with with lots of colourful Lyttelton characters. Got talking to a cool couple next to us which capped off a nice relaxed hour there. Great for pre or post dinner drinks. Would go back anytime.
s.We came for some tapas and a beer on a super impromptu night in Lyttleton. Holy s#@t this place exceeds expectations. Awesome service, great bevvys and stunning food. All the patrons and staff were super cool too. Thanks for the unexpectedly good night out X. #itsjustsofarkinggood

S.After a few months on the down and out, I went into this establishment looking for a change of pace. Hoping to find some good and/or positive vibes, I ordered a vodka Red Bull, short glass no ice. The bartender look at me like I was wrong. Firstly, I've worked in "hospitality" before, the customer is ALWAYS right; Secondly, maybe if he had spend more time tidying up his mop of a hair cut he would have less time to scowl at someones drink order. Another staff member was wearing slippers and it made me VERY uncomfortable.
The chips I ordered redeemed the situation. Perfect grease to carbs ratio. not sure why I didn't get tomato sauce, not about this garlic mayo stuff. Second drink order I decided to go for something slightly more inline with what the rest of the patrons (if you can call them that) were ordering. One of the creatively name beers on the taps. INSTANT regret. Bar keep had to discard three full glasses of head before he got a full glass in front me.
Must have been a pretty strong brew because after finishing it my mood changed an everything seemed a little bit better.
Spewed in the taxi on the way home, might be back again

N.We werent in last night for dinner. After arriving in Christchurch from Sydneyand hearing about the devastating incident in Christchurch we came to Lyttelton and were still in awe of everyone's kindness. The staff at Cival and Naval were still so welcoming and the atmosphere is so friendly and relaxed. We ordered the sourdough bread, fried chicken, beef cheeck and steak and were pleasantly surprised with the most delicious food for low prices. Everything about the food we ate was so well complimented and incredibly delicious. I would highly recommend this beautiful bar.

I am, however, dubious if not a little frightened by the attitude of the one balding, bearded, aryan looking man in the leather jacket who, on several occasions, groped my butt without any further explanation. Although partially aroused, i found myself rather disgruntled with the whole encounter.
