Had a brief visit since we were very early for our dinner invite at our firends home nearby. Enjoyed the breather after a good and active day. We experienced a large number of loud locals around us but it was all in good spirits and bearable. We just focused on each other and the time flew by.

We absolutely loved the food and the choose 3 for $50 was such awesome value and quality. We will definitely be back here to enjoy the sun again.

Nice place. The staff seemed friendly enough but it was pitty about the food tapers and pizza was expecting a bit more like big breakfasts

Nice gastro pub style food. Particularly recommend the pork belly - which comes with a nice mustard flavoured mash. Atmosphere-wise be aware that this is a pub as well as a restaurant.

Good menu, hard to choose from! Also super yummy calamari, and other starters. Pizza menu and bar snacks, plenty of wine/beer to choose from too. Heaps of parking available. In the entertainment book, buy one meal get one free!

Great atmosphere, nice people, good service. Only pity is back of the pizza, lots of black ash which is a bit surprise. Taste alright though.

Love this place. Food is amazing and we particularly love the cold boozy fruity jugs.

Always good food. Tuesday is 2 for 1 pizza night so very popular. Pizzas had great toppings and very tasty. How can you go wrong with a couple of good sized pizzas for $25?

The seared scallops with lemon risotto and pesto was a dream. And the outdoor area is really great.

Excellent service. Seafood chowder was lovely served in a large cob loaf. Nice to see it back on the menu. Though I am not sure it was the same recipe they previously used. Could have put more seafood in it. Overall lovely night watching final rugby

Went here for a work do. The food was fantastic. We had platters of excellent finger food, can thoroughly recommend the buttermilk chicken and the pizzas. Also the vegetarian platter was yummy. Excellent service and friendly staff. The music was great too. The upstairs room was perfect venue with a balcony and high top tables as well as normal tables. Perfect for the group we had.

Super bar with friendly staff and a great seperate area for celebrating birthdays and events. AAA+

Wow what a great place! The meals are generous and we'll priced and the staff is wonderful. If your a cyclist it's bike friendly as well!

Service and surrounds were excellent. Good sized and delicious meals. Medium rare steak was spot on, and caesar salad was sumptuous. One to put on our rotation of dining out places.

First time impressions, absolutely fantastic. Food was served perfectly and the waitress was a delight, couldnt get better service elsewhere. Highly recommend.

Kia ora, great space with a nice vibe, service was great too. Parking is a little jammed in but doable. My meal was great, only suggestion would be to put the sour cream on the side. While we were there, a group was preparing for a private function upstairs.

Dam good service! Limited staff doing a stellar job when we stopped by for an early Saturday lunch, food was great too. I had the Blue Cod , served with fries and a lovely side salad. He had Eggs Bene with a huge side of lovely bacon. We wanted nor even wished for more. Great choice with plenty of off road parking too! Go you good things, we'll be back ♡

Enjoyed dropping in for a quick drink with my son. Friendly staff, having a good conversation as a perfectly poured Heineken and large coke with ice were served. Very clean bar. Lots of staff ready and busy with a good buzzing atmosphere. Toilets were very clean. Saw others food come out and the hotchips, pizza and kids meals looked appetizing. If I wasn't waiting for food from somewhere else I would have stayed.

First time in this bar and I must say I was impressed food looked great all through we only had a few drinks

We had a lovely meal plenty of food, nicely presented and lots of choice. Good atmosphere with very friendly and responsive staff. I would certainly recommend Protocol for your next small gathering.

Awesome service, awesome food and a great experience overall. We hired out a private function area for our 2019 NZ Detailers Conference in October. We had a private bar area and the food was brought out promptly and was super tasty. Well organised overall and highly recommended for anyone needing a group function location!

Friendly staff, the cocktails are affordable at $14. They had a really amazing musician playing live music on Sunday afternoon. It was so relaxing, nice outdoor area. It’s a perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon

I just celebrated my 50th in the lounge room. Service was excellent through planning stages through to the night. Great venue and lots of rave comments regarding the food from my guests (including the vegan!). All very reasonably priced with attentive service.

The waiter we had serving us was absolutely amazing so polite and obliging will certainly go back the meal was excellent

Had read online about slow and forgetful service but we went anyway one Saturday for breakfast. Although pleasant, our mature female waitress kept forgetting our orders. We wanted dessert and she'd given us dessert menus. We chose our desserts but she never came back to take our order. We also always have coffee so would've followed desserts with coffees. Never did she ask us did we want more alcoholic drinks either which we'd started with. Food average service poor.

Went there on a weeknight. It was quite busy which is a good sign. The front counter staff warned us they were busy and it would take about 45min for food but we decided to stay. Ordered a bread and oils starter, it came out fairly quickly. Though it was bread and dips which was a little strange when expecting oil dips. It was ok but not great. Food came out about 45min later as advised. I had ribs, the ribs themselve were quite good but they had smothered them in a sesame seed type sauce. It's was super strong and over powering. I tried to wipe it off best I could but still over powered the ribs. Partner had salmon which was fine but a bit plain. Staff were friendly though and place had a nice atmosphere, sort of pub feel to it, but a nicer pub.

We have been going for a few Sundays now and will continue to go as long as the live musician is there! She was absolutely amazing. It feels like a show. I haven't been disappointed with the food either! It is of a very high standard. Love the vibe of the restaurant. Will highly recommend!

Great pub food, quick friendly bar service, food arrives in good time.

Well worth a visit. NZ$60 bought a steak meal, a chicken burger as mains and a calamari starter. Delicious food washed down with Tiger lager. A bonus was a pub singer who really could sing and the friendly and helpful bar staff.

We had Our Christmas company dinner here. It was an awesome evening with kind, friendly service from the staff. Parking may be an issue if it is busy. It's better not to drive to a bar anyway so I can't add any discredit in that regard...

I currently am contracted to clean their ovens and grill tops once a month. Has recently been taken under new ownership. The owners are wonderful and have many years experience in hospitality. A great location with even better atmosphere and food

Protocol is a nice bar with good food served with the Friday night happy hour. This is a popular venue which does attract a regular clientele. Regardless of that do call in as bar staff will be more than happy to see you and het you some refreshing beverage. I am sure you will enjoy your evening and do order as they have great pizza, chips etc for removing the hunger pains. Do note car parking is tight on site so.it may pay to park on the street. This not an inconvenience as it still will be close to Protocol.

Just had a wonderful evening meal. Salmon was done to perfection, as was the pork my wife ordered. Staff were very nice and helpful, prices were good....just an awesome place! This may just be my new favorite place! Thank you

The food was average, the service was good. The painted brick walls make the sound bounce in the hall, turning it into an echo chamber, where you can't even hear your own thoughts.

I booked this place for my wife's 50th birthday. I found the management and staff to be very helpful and the barman on the night was professional and friendly. the food was great and everyone had an awesome night. I would book this venue again and would recommend it to others.

we have eaten there about once every month for a weekday early lunch around 11ish, we have always had great service and staff are good because they come out and check to see if you need more drinks regularly. The food most of the time has been wonderful. But I do appreciate friendly good service. Thanks elevate wait staff

I loved Protocol. It is the 2nd time we have been there for lunch and this time was just as good as the last. The waiter was very attentive and constantly made sure everything was to our satisfaction. I'll go back that's for sure.

Although the venue itself is lovely and the staff friendly I was very disappointed with my meal - the tropical pizza. You expect more toppings than a pizza hut or supermarket pizza when spending $20, however this was not the case. A mere handful and i mean handful of toppings thrown on a paper thin base. I would have been better off with a $5 classic from Doninoes. Also, after we finished our lunch the waiter only took away half of the plates until I got fed up and carried them to the bar. On the plus side everyone elses meals (venison burger and eggs benedict) looked great.

Just popped in to kill a little time between Christmas Eve commitments. Awesome vibe( loved the blast-from-the-past music), well priced drinks, simple but good bar snacks, and friendly, efficient, polite (despite being slammed) staff. Plan to come back when we dont have to keep an eye on the time.

Had a great work function. Hosting 40 customers was a breeze. The friendly staff were welcoming and accommodating. Top effort and thank you very much.

Little bit slow but we were a large group of people. Food okay. The pizzas looked delicious, attentive and polite staff.

Our order got messed up despite being pretty much the only ones ordering food, but they managed to fix this in no time. The bar food was quite nice by pub standards.
