We had a great experience. Ordered the mix platter which was decent for 3 people. Good mix of meats, sauces. One of the best platters I’ve had. Staff were attentive and friendly. Checking if we needed more drinks etc.

We arrived about 6.45pm, and not realizing the outside seating was for smokers, we asked to be moved inside. No problems mate. Thanks heaps. Was not crowded, right amount of ambience to relax in. Not a fan of the magarita I ordered, frozen is my preferred option, so one instead of the usual 4 or 5 kept more bucks in my pocket. Otherwise our meal was served hot, very appealing to the eye and except for the salad and some chips left on my plate, everyone enjoyed their dinner. Thanks Helm

Good atmosphere. The dishes are a bit small, but delicious. For those who like a jug of beer and some snacks, this is a great place.

Tried to reserve a table, they didn't pick up the phone nor return my call so just turned up. The waitress was not friendly and looked like she hated her job. A couple of much friendlier waitresses came on shift later. Chips weren't cooked but pizza was very delicious. When advised staff this they told me one balanced out the other.

We've been here 3 times now, first time for a pizza which was delicious, second time thought we would try an actual meal of the beef short ribs - very disappointing, veges raw, partners beef so fatty was inedible, spoke to waitress and chef who didnt seem overly bothered about it but replaced it after much hesitation but then was missing most of the other parts of the meal, partner too hungry to bother saying anything again, 3rd time for a beef burger and i had the lamb salad...both again really disappointing, burger patty was so dry and quite rubbery, my salad wasn't what was described on the menu. If you want a good pizza and chips, its a great place to go but we are staying away from their actual meals. Few disappointments now and not worth wasting the money.

Delicious food cooked perfectly - our table ordered steak with mushroom sauce, chicken, and a vege burger. It was very busy and we didn't have a booking so we didn't have the best pick of tables but the service was very good and the wait for our meals was only around half an hour, which surprised us given how busy it was. The only downside for us was the noise... The live music was so loud that any conversation had to be shouted, so with the live music and every table shouting their convos it was a bit of a din, but the atmosphere is enjoyable if that's what you're expecting. Would definitely go again but would phone ahead and book a table.

Excellent ambience for chilling. The beer here can be pretty expensive. Food is decent. I loved the outdoor seating area. They partitioned the smoking area so part of, actually the majority of, the outdoor seating area is for non smoking. Waiters are friendly. I just hoped they have a greater selection of coffees and teas.

Had our work dinner there. All our meals (apart from the steak meals) were pretty average. My meal was very small compared to everyone else's. Mates eggs were pretty snotty. Salads were choca full of red onion. It definitely could have been better. Service was pretty slack. We would have spent alot more on drinks and desserts but once dinner was done, waitress basically disappeared. The boss actually asked for bowl of fries after he had eaten his main but they never arrived.

Superb outdoor seating area for sunny summer days. A decent selection of Montieths Beers + others, alongside good champagne. Friendly staff and a good place to catch up for casual afternoon drinks if you're in the north of Hamilton.

Nice....but No post mix coke in a bar???? Dont order the pork belly $18 and would be the smallest piece of pork ever.$8 side salad could have been served in a glass it was that small. Cheescake desert was bigger than both meals. Staff spend a lot of time talking and not much time serving. Granted not a lot of people in restaurant but still only one was attentive and she kept getting sent outside. 2nd night coke is back. Staff a friendly and busy so less talking. Pizza will fill my fat belly. See photo. Tastes great as well. Upping my stars to 4. Still $26 for a pizza but hey.

Pizza and chips were great, my kids loved them. A great place to go in winter, warm, great service and friendly staff. Great for a family dinner, and everyone enjoyed our time here. Awesome place!

Wow! Not only was the staff incredibly friendly and helpful the food was delicious! Definitely recommend. Atmosphere was incredible with both inside and outside seating options. Large selection of both food and drinks to suit all dietary types. Definitely a must in Hamilton.

Stopped in for a meal on our way back to Auckand, best food i've had in a long time. Had Pork Belly Bits they were my fave so tender and tasty, then had lamb rump which was also tasty and delish. I Highly recommend. Cannot wait to go back.

Had lunch here on Thursday with 10 work mates. Busy area around bar but there is parking available around it. Bar also has an outside area to dine if you want. Service was great, waiter came to table immediately to take drink order then meal order. Didnt come back later though after meals arrived to check if anyone wanted top ups. Not an extensive lunch menu but was ok. Also had a few vegetarian dishes available. Food arrived quite quickly, and all at same time. Meals were ok. Nothing fancy and cost was average. Its a bar so was nice to be able to watch olympics on tv while eating.

A bustling, noisy social place to go. It has good food & drink, with sport on the big screens to boot. We had a large group, who we had pre-ordered pizza for. It was yummy - even the vegetarian ones!

Great customer service. The Pork Belly burgers were delicious. Coffee was great too. Fast getting our food. Toilets were very clean and maintained. Wonderful place to go. Would definitely go there again.

Great atmosphere with live music. Food was above average. Had the pork belly roti (highly recommended!) as a starter with fish and chips and chicken as a main. The evening was only let down by the poor service. We initially got served asking if we were needing drinks to which we declined. However it took a while for another waitress to come to us and ask what we wanted to order for food. This was further evident when we were waiting to pay and no one seemed interested to serve us.

We had fantastic food. My steak was melt in your mouth. And my partners pork belly and chowder were superb. We would choose another night next time because we do find the Helm very noisy. And last night we were unable to have a conversation due to the noise. Service was excellent. We would come more often my partner is deaf and the noise level can be difficult to deal with.

Nice place for a casual get together. The out door patio was perfect with the mature trees providing much needed shade on a hot day. There was music at a perfect volume to set the mood while still being able to socialize comfortably with friends. Will definitely go back

Loved this place as soon as we walked in - live music and a warm comfortable space to be in even when quite busy. Exceptional service. Couldn't decide on two mains so we got 4x smaller meals (lamb cutlets, crumbed chicken, pork belly, calimari). All were exceptionally tasty, but the pork belly blew our mind. Beautiful food, shame about the service on the night. My meal was luke warm and passed to me from across the other side of the table requiring me to serve myself. The request by the two elderly guests to have their meals bought out at the same time as the starters was completely ignored. Such as shame as I had recommended the Helm to all my guests.

Good live music. Went 2 night's in a row. Didn't eat but the food looked good. Liked the undercover outdoor area. First night no bacardi and went back second night - still no bacardi..... not sure who does ordering but this was a let down. Had white rum instead which was okay. Most staff were great but one young lady ignored me and when she did serve me she wasn't the happiest. It won't put me off though - I will be back!

My family and I are frequent diners at both The Helm and Lookout and are rarely disappointed. Not fanciest food but quality and laid back. Although there have been a few misses with how the food is cooked (steak) that is understandable with such a large group but each time we tell them they always try to rectify the problem. This weekend just gone I celebrated my birthday @The Helm with my husband and we had great service and food. The only slight low was that I was so full with our starters that for main i ordered a entree size chowder and although the flavor was delicious it hardly had and seafood. However i did not complain as i was so full already and wanted to save room for dessert. The banoffee wontons for dessert were delicious though. I definitely recommend both establishments and will be back.

I ordered Eggs Benedict with salmon. The eggs and salmon were great. It came on 2 English muffins that were rock hard, so hard that I actually mentioned It to the waitress and I rarely complain but felt the cook should be nade aware. I doubt the waitress even mentioned it as i don't think she realises that a complaint no matter how friendly it is given, should be addressed. I ended up walking across the restaurant and helping myself to a steak knife in order to cut the muffins and all she did was acknowledge that it was ok to take one. Where I come from there would have been no tip left but this is NZ, her tip is included in the high hourly wages waitresses get so there's no incentive to do a better job. Having said that, she was a friendly waitress, she was just obviously inexperienced.

A so so place to eat and drink in Hamilton. Nothing stands out as being particularly fantastic or exceptionally bad. Table service could use some work as tables were left with previous customers plates etc. Some of the outdoor tables were very sticky.

Not the best place, steak came out rare instead of med-rare, and found a hair. Was too hungry to tell, so just cut off the area around it. Nothing special. Tasted average. Staff were okay, not a lot of energy, except for one guy that had a smile the whole time which is nice. I’m a little fussy when it comes to how things are placed on the tables (upbringing) so I’m not impressed when things are thrown (menus) onto the table instead of placed. I’ll probably by-pass the helm in the future. Unless word of mouth reaches me with improvement.

Typical Bistro type setup that is similar in many respects to what you would find in metropolitan Australia. Locations is odd and uninspiring but the food is good value, while the staff are also friendly. Good place to start on a Tuesday night if you're having a few.
