Rustic cafe is our favourite restaurant at Hanmer and the most recent visit was another confirmation why! We were there for lunch on Queen’s Birthday. We had vegetarian club sandwich, which was made freshly for us, was immense, tasty and satisfying. We had also ordered garlic bread loaf. But we couldn’t finish the two items between the two of us, and had to bring a garlic loaf home. The pot of tea was also large enough for two persons, and more. We were fortunate to meet Stacey, who co-owns the place. Today, once again, it was clear why Rustic Cafe was our preferred place for food at Hanmer Springs.

We’ve eaten here twice so far and both times the food has been delicious. Highly recommend the wedges. Coffee was good and even satisfied the fussy palate of my husband. He snuck off here for breakfast while we swam and reckons it was delicious. They were busy today but let us know how long food might be before we ordered which was really appreciated. Would definitely come back for another meal.

Thought I was just getting regular nachos and my wife got a burger and a side of fries... The food was way more surprising then we thought. The flavors went above and beyond our expectations... Absolutely delicious AA++

Have had 2 lovely meals from here. Yesterday no photos but beef burger and french toast very nice and catered for gf toast instead of bread bun. Today was eggs, bacon gf toast and son had pancakes with berry. Again very yummy and staff are friendly, ordering gf no problem and would definitely return again.

On a busy Anzac weekend we had 10 out of 10 coffee and a very tasty slice. Fast service, excellent value with a good size homemade slice priced at only $3.20. Staff are friendly and very welcoming.

Wonderful breakfast at Rustic. Service was excellent. Prices very reasonable and the food is amazing! Generous servings of fresh beautifully cooked food. Big breakfast includes sausages and mushrooms (hidden under all the other food in the photo). Mugs of coffee are very large. Std cups available too. Wines spiririts and cocktails are also available and reasonably priced. Irish coffee is great!

Top-notch food! We had Salmon Bruschetta, Calamari Rings, and meatballs from the Tapas Menu. Generous portions, we were happily stuffed! Really fair price for Hanmer! Wanted to thank Stacey, for her awesome service. So smiley, relatable, and knowledgeable of the menu. A fine example of Manaakitanga (Kindness, and generosity to her guests.) Looking forward to our next hearty kai there!

Absolutely fabulous!! Sitting here as I type this, staff are amazing, really friendly! Great pricing! Milkshakes are delicious so were our meals. Both came in a good time not having to wait ages. We were asked if our meals were okay and if we needed anything else. Highly recommend and if we are ever back in the South Island we will be back! Thank you so much!

Such an amazing lunch had the lamb burger. breakfast, delicious pancakes, hot chocolate ,they even had the snow falling couldn't have asked for more, definitely worth the trip.

My husband and I ordered breakfast to share without asking the guy taking the order immediately provides us with two plates. He had a big smile and was quite friendly. It was a busy weekend morning and everything came out timely. The food was good and the mocha was great. One of the best I have had! I would recommend this to anyone cruising through Hanmer.

The cafe was nice enough with a small range of cabinet food, the classic kiwi cafe menu, and some tapas. I got the french toast and it was OK. However, the bread was dense, the egg coating had not flavor, and they served it with fake maple syrup. Also, it took a while for our order to be served. Overall, probably won't be going back as the food is average for it's relatively high price.

The chef is an artist.. sandwich toasted to perfection. Beautiful ingredients.. we went for breakfast and lunch back to back... toasted sandwiches for breakfast and soup with bread, chilli beef risotto and and fried bread pizzas for lunch.. Loved their food and staff... Good sized meals. Everything was great.. don’t miss the muffins.. we had caramel chocolate 😍 hope they keep the quality forever

Can't agree with Douglas' review: I ordered a Thai Beef salad which was one of the best salads I have had in a long time. PLenty of dressing, plenty of meat, and super delicious. Would go back there in a flash.

Went for lunch! We had 6 tapas for 2 adults and 2 kids, it was really good and a lot! Lots of homemade: huge wedges, homemade tomato sauce, good maori fry bread, awesome smoked salmon bruschetta...It was my birthday so we decided to order cocktails too...I highly recommend the "green with envy" one 😊!

We had the perfect breakfast to start our day. The smell of the freshly brewed coffee meet us as we walked up the street. We were greeded by lovely friendly staff to a table with glasses with ice and lemon for our water. We ordered poached eggs and French toast with bacon banana and maple syrup OMG a beautiful yummy start to our long day of travel.

The decor inside the restaurant isn't much but don't let that fool you. We ordered two tapas - a meatball dish and a shrimp dish. Both were fantastic. The meatballs are amongst the best I had. It was juicy and flavorful, and the sauce accompanying it was good too. However, the reason why I gave it 5 stars was because of the waitress serving us that night. She was patient, friendly and very warm. It's the kind of hospitality that makes you hold every other service staff's level of service to.

Had breakfast here. Coffee was great, service was a bit lacking though with the friendliness of staff and our food took a while to come out. But the pancakes I had were great as well as the presentation. Is on the more expensive side by the time you get all the toppings you want. But was worth it for the taste.

This cafe is right in the middle of the town. Really nice people running it. Seating is more adequate rather than comfortable. The taco serving was really big and very tasty. I ordered a flat white coffee and it could be the worst flat white ever. It was no more than coffee drowned in warmed milk.

Popped in here for a spot on lunch on a quiet Sunday in Hanmer Springs. We had our 8 month old baby with us. A warm welcome provided and after ordering, we proceeded to feed our wee guy Archie some lunch. When our food arrived, Archie was already finished. Nan the waitress took Archie and looked after him for 20 minutes, to allow us to eat our lunch. Talk about going above and beyond! Food was lovely and their Hot Chocolate is not to be missed. Thanks Nan. You made our day!

Asides from the cocktails that knocked us on our arses before we started eating, the food was killer. We got 4 tapas between the two of us and it was more than we should have eaten. Came in on a cold rainy day and asked for a bowl of soup. Although not on the menu a most delicious BiG bowl of tomato soup with balsamic drizzles on top along with two large toasted and buttered slices of bread magically appeared, warming (and filling) my belly!! (No picture as I was too hungry!)
