Went there for the first time. It was a work gathering and the service was on point but the best part was Hats off to the CHEF for his highly delicious shearers shank meal. Everything melted in the mouth and the meat was coming off the bone and the broccoli 🥦 was on point too. Defz taking my Husband here. Keep up the great hospitality Speights's Ale House :)

Lost track of the times I've been here over the years, and for good reason. More often than not it's got game, but sometimes the occasional disappointment creeps in. The bread with garlic butter was on point! Hot, crisp and the garlic fiends will be happy. Her cod was good too, the batter was a little greasy but accompanying it was a very acceptable salad with enough sharpness in the dressing to complement the deep-fried fish. The beef and bacon cheese burger I ordered was ....absent. I got sent a chicken burger which because we were on the clock I accepted, and regretted it. I avoid chicken burgers because they're usually filled with some processed chicken out of a box, and this was no exception. I looked good, but that's all it did well. Probably would have been 4 stars if I got the right order.

Speight's Ale house Petone brings a luxurious hospitality under the red light traffic setting. They have an inviting atmosphere with prompt assistant at the door to receiving vaccine passes. Booking is taking seriously and seating is taking quickly to acquired table. Table service was good with quick conversations due to our setting, servers were genuine and timing between starters and mains could have been more timely. Mussles were cooked to prefection, however main was a bit warm to my taste. Meat was amazing however the 28 day dry age i believe was not delivered. Amazing experience over all

Most amazing meal tonite. Most amazing service from entry to sit down....great atmosphere and the food blew me away. Had the Chatto Creek Lamb and boy oh boy was that fantastic. My fiancee had the Sirloin and he couldn't stop gushing in awe . So 10/10 The staff just made it an enjoyable time Thank you for a great night.

Garlic loaf and chicken bites were great, good staple dishes. Thought honestly I feel things have gone down hill over the last couple of years. Went for a birthday lunch on Saturday. I had the chicken schnitzel burger, cheap white burger bun, dry schnitzel, pretty undercooked bacon, drowned in sauce, minimal salad and three quarters of a plate of shoestring fries. I was really surprised as the previous chicken burger was fantastic. Beautiful bun, big crumbed chicken breast with thick cut chips! I felt pretty average after this one. Others had the ribs which were pretty dry and I have a feeling had been sitting there for ages. Service was great as usual, really attentive. Beers was great too. Used to be great, but don’t think I’ll be in a rush to going back.

Top marks for having Emerson's Porter on tap, and a second choice dark beer, Speights Old Dark. I had a meal (calamari salad) and dessert (sticky date pudding, icecream, brandy snap) nicely prepared and the table service was great from friendly and polite staff. Nice place for a quiet beer in Petone.

Speight’s Ale House was humming with a full house on Thursday night so we ate at the bar leaners. The food is always good here and tonight the service was equally great. The Ranfurly pork ribs are so tender that the meat falls off the bone. The BBQ glaze is sweet and the dish came with a mountain of shoestring fries. The black cherry chicken was juicy and tender, served on colcannon mash. Speight’s Petone is easily our favourite venue for hearty pub food.

Came in for lunch, fantastic service and delicious food. I had the pork belly which was cooked perfectly and the crackle was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the apple sauce, I prefer mine pretty plain but it was alright - just not to my taste. I'd definitely have it again. $29 for a lunch main is more than I'd generally pay but it was really nice.

Came here with my brother. Food was excellent and customer service was great. My dish was ready a few minutes before my brother's (which didn't bother either of us one bit) so they took the cost of a drink off the bill to compensate.

After reading other reviews I think we must have just gotten the kitchen on a bad day. We came in for a late lunch, ordered the bacon cheeseburger medium rare. What I received was a well-done hockey puck on the saddest squished bun. My partners chicken sandwich was ok. We didn’t have time to wait for something else so we just ate the food. I think we would give it another chance, but what we received was certainly not worth the price paid.

However the waiting staff We had was one star, no blackboard specials were told to us, no table water offered to us at all, had to ask for glass for bottled beer, asked for people's order from the corner of table there were 8 of us. Dined on Friday night and I had the chicken Filo while my 3 dinner companions had the steak options. None of us were disappointed. My meal was so good. A little slow on service but it was a packed restaurant so understandable. A bit noisy but once again a packed bar/restaurant so can't really complain. All in all a great experience.

My work booked the upstairs function room for our xmas do, good choice of venue, wonderful smorgasbord meal The cheesecake and chocolate brownie was average but the chocolate éclairs and brandy cream were outstanding. Overall it was a good experience. I salute all the hospitality staff, it's not an easy job, especially coming up to Christmas. Well done guys! Thank you!

Well tonight was the 3rd time I have been to Speights ale house and each time we have had nothing but amazing service and excellent food. The food is well priced and is both a good sizing and we'll flavoured. The customer service is quick as well as friendly. The manager there has been more than happy to exceed expectations and help from secret birthdays and more. The environment there is is a nice and welcoming. It is not a formal place nor is it a a low level bar/pub. If you are anything like me were you do not like high dressed posse stuck up restaurant put like a clean family friendly restaurant then I couldn't recommend Speights ale house more.

The service was great. It was lunch time Sunday and they were pretty busy but the staff were attentive and the food came out quite quickly which was fantastic. Only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because I ordered my steak to be cooked medium and it came out rare in some parts so a bit inconsistent and I didn't eat the rare bits. Still a great experience and looking forward to next time.

Breads were great, desert was lovely as was the main meals except that the fries that came with the cheeseburger was so salty you could not eat them. We told the young woman who had been serving us who was exceptionally apologetic...she advised she would tell the kitchen. We didn't hear anything from them?? A little disappointing as the rest of the evening was great.

Great place to go to as a small or large group. The Cobb breads are scrumptious, I ordered the pork belly it was nice and juicy cooked perfectly. The others at the table enjoyed their respective meals. Parking available at the back or you will need to try parking on Gear or Jackson street. Staff are great. Went here for a work lunch and was not disappointed. Staff were very friendly and the food was amazing, drinks were very nice and had a very good selection from the Speight's range. Was a cold day but the bar was cozy and warm. Both drinks and food didn't take long to come out after they were ordered and food was reasonably priced. Plenty of parking around the back also so no struggling to find a park. If you feel like a pint and a feed then you can't go past the Speight's Ale House in Petone!

Very reliable resturant,also good for groups as there is lots of room to move round and chat and they will split the bill and not muck it up...I have been there multiple times for both small and large groups and staff have always been, helpful and friendly and enthusiastic. Compared to other places they are amazing. It's our go to place for a solid meal, with some drinks. Also the acoustics are easy on the ear so you Don't find you self shouting to make yourself heard...Although it might be different if you went on a night with a big game on. There are TV for games on but I have never found that to be too invasive.

Food was amazingly prepared; if you're looking for a little bit if a kick I couldn't recommend the jalapeño cheese balls enough and the chicken parcel was divine. Other highlights were the pork belly bites and the sorbet, which was a perfect finisher to the night. Top end service; I made a reservation in advance and the manager was happy to let me alter my guest numbers as well as catering for my uncle who needed wheelchair access. Everyone was very friendly and made the night that much more enjoyable. Good quality for money; for a few drinks, two entrees, two mains, a kids meal, and a dessert, we ended up paying just under $150. Awesome experience and one of our first options when looking at organising group get togethers.

Great family meal out here. I had a hard job deciding what to order there was so many delicious options. Everyone loved their meals. Service was great, fast, friendly, attentive. Kids had kids meals and xmas themed activity packs (it was Xmas!). Good to see kids food options including meat and veges, not all chips and nuggets etc. My 6yr old declared the Speights Alehouse the best restaurant ever!!! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Petone. I will try something else on the menu!

It's nice mostly but when I told them I didn't like the crumble ( I wasn't complaining they asked because I didn't finish it because it was under cooked) the lad serving me told me very patronizingly that a crumble wasn't a pie and would taste differently ( u don't say).....I'm a chef, have been for 15years aswell as a bar/bistro manager for many years. I think their staff need to be trained to not assume their clientele are morons.

We dined at Speights Petone on the 16th of October, a small group of 27 people. I can honestly sat there was not one complaint. The meals were delicious. We all had a really great time. Special thanks to you all, that worked so hard that night. Speights will now be our no1 dining place and I will certainly be telling all my friends, in fact we posted a pic or two on Facebook.

I asked my server and she didn’t bother to check if could be done still

Always been good for me, I've attended for lunches and for corporate events. Venue is clean and maintained, food is good. It's a bit dark on the inside, but that doesn't detract from the comfortable atmosphere.

It's not open 24 hours a day! You can't get a liquor licence for 24 hours a day in NZ. Got luck on their opening hours. Best turn up and see if they are open is my recommendation. Apart from that is Ok place for meals and drinks. One good thing is they have dark beers!

Cozy restaurant close to Wellington Harbour. Good bier and food for a reasonable price. Only down point is the bolts sticking out on plate under table. Our daughter injured her foot while sitting down. Bolts are a health hazard and should be removed as soon as possible.

Let me tell you,when it comes to food im fussy, but me and my family have been in nz 2 and a half years. And found no one that can cook a good rack of ribs, and man they can cook ribs.
