A close friend introduced me to the Origin coffee range about 3-years ago and I have since been a returning customer. Every batch has been of remarkable quality, delivery is imminent, with a personal touch and drinking sustainably traded coffee just feels better. My great experience with Origin coffee, however, has recently been topped by their outstanding customer service dealing with a failed courier delivery and I am thankful for that!

This place has it. Single Origin Coffee is carefully roasted to its premium note by local experts. A sip from this rich aromatic bean would awaken your senses. If best deserve a reward it is the Origin Cofee. Thank you for boosting my business with your best beans. Highly recommend Origin Coffee

The station across the road from the car park and the public toilets that became a coffee shop. Under duress they will also serve tea. Definitely worth diverting off the main road to find and enjoy a break. I’m told they do mail order coffee if you can’t do without their particular brew/bean. Recommended.

We came here today on a rainy Monday afternoon. Roger, the owner, made two cappuccinos for us which tasted really good. It was also good to know that according to Roger, the beans he’s using are ethically sourced from the Shire Highlands of Malawi where he is from.
On a side note, Roger is super nice and has a great sense of humour - when he heard that I just finished my PhD in chemistry, he asked me to draw the structure of caffeine on his whiteboard (which admittedly I had to look up first...).
If you like coffee, make sure to stop by this Cafe on your way!

What a great place and an amazing owner! He offerd my brother and i a coffee so we entered the place. It was a very nice and cozy place next to the train station( were only once an hours a train stoped). The coffee was really fantastic, maybe also because roger burned his own coffee beans. He showed us the different types of burning (American and Turkish) machines and we also learned how to make the coffees. The barista course was amazing. Roger told us how to foam the milk and how to make nice figures. It was really an amazing experience. This night i couldnt sleep due to all the delicious coffee i drunk;))

The absolute BEST coffee!! Do not bother going anywhere else!

Before and after our bike ride, our group had lovely coffees made by the owner.

I was with my nextdoor neighbor who had taken me out to Origin Coffee as a "Birthday day out"
Origin Coffee is a coffee connoisseurs paradise.
Freshly roasted on sight to a medium, medium/dark and a dark roast. This is all housed in the old Otorohanga train station.
A great venue to break up a longer trip... or a destination for a special coffee with it's own special ambience.
Enjoy.

Great coffee and sun is shining
赵.
Perfect coffee, and very kind boss, warm person. We will remember this little railway station just because of Roger's help.
L.
Coffee great, however toasted sandwiches, they need to either wear gloves or wash their hands, or use tongs as it was quite off putting. We would never go back, if we did no food.
DON'T TOUCH FOOD WITH HANDS. FIRST FOOD HYGIENE RULE
S.
Great coffee and wonderful friendly service.

Excellent coffee, roasted on the premises, with a very knowledgeable owner. One of the hidden gems of Otorohanga. If you like coffee, it's definitely worth picking up a bag of beans if you're passing through. If you don't like coffee, they're a good gift for people who do! The premises in the old railway station are interesting too. Just be aware that the coffee is by far the main focus, and the selection of other drinks and snacks is very limited.
O.
Brought the coffee pods from here after trying multiple Nespresso flavours and I’m super impressed with origin coffee pods and how smooth they are! I highly recommend them over any Nespresso pods.
W.
Every trip through Otorohanga we get coffee, chocolate covered beans and a packet of espresso grind. Great service.
D.
Amazing coffee, highly experienced staff, always up for a yarn, give it a shot!
R.
You made this Wellingtonian happy! Thanks for the great coffee and impromptu coffee roasting education! Fascinating to see a coffee plant for the first time!
J.
Growing and roasting their own coffee! Great experience, superb coffee.

If your stopping in Otorohanga for coffee why wouldn’t you stop here.
Great coffee. And trackside.
Haven’t been here when a train has rolled through- so could be noisy, but with the sen beating on the northern end of the railshed and the outside tables lapping it up, wot a cool setting.

We fell in love with New Zealand's coffee when we spent about 6-weeks exploring the north island a couple of winters ago. After we returned to Seattle, we missed the coffee so much that we decided to try find a place that would ship beans to us. And that's when we discovered Origin Coffee. We've been ordering coffee pretty much since returning. I told Roger today when re-ordering that it's a little embarrassing living in Seattle"Coffee Town"and not being able to find anything close to Origin's quality. Origin has great coffee and Roger is such a NICE guy; we hope to keep ordering coffee from Origin for a long time. And the next time we're in New Zealand, we're going to make a point of going to Origin in-person. You really should try it. But beware: it's deliciously addictive!
J.
This is a wonderful course that helps me to gain the professional knowledge of coffee. Roger is very friendly and I'm happy to spend my time in this lovely coffee studio. Thanks again for Roger and his team :) Willa
S.
Great place to stop for a coffee or pick up some freshly roasted beans.
The staff are super friendly and have a passion for coffee and love to share this with customers.
If you play your cards right they might even let you get behind the machine and show you a couple of tips for making a ‘customer quality beverage’.
Cheers guys, be back soon!
A.
Had an amazing Coffee here! The knowledgeable owner gave us a tour of the Coffee that was processed on-site and I even got to try a fresh Coffee cherry :) Highly recommend vising this place on your way past.
S.
Just dropped by for a quick coffee on the way to Auckland and the coffee was on point. The owner was super friendly and even had us taste the Malawi Express Specialty Coffee. Definitely recommend you have it as well; Delicious!
P.
Awesome place, good coffee and love the chocolate covered beans, spent way too much lol 😆 Thanks always good to see you again
R.
Stopped in here on our drive back to Auckland, what a hidden gem! Highly recommend stopping in for anyone who’s into their speciality coffee! The Malawi Express was delicious.
S.
Called in to the toilets in the first week of lock down after a hospital visit on returning to Taumarunui. ..Toilets were closed..A man called out from the station asking if everything was alright and offered the use of the toilet on his premises.I thought that was decent of him and then he offered to make us a free coffee which I accepted..An all round great guy......Arohanui.
C.
Great coffee and toasted sandwiches... In a wonderful old railway stop. Highly recommended.
M.
In a word: fantastic! I've been undergoing barista training under Daniel's tutelage for the past two weeks. Not only have I now rediscovered my caffeine addiction (with a snobbish new point of view) but I've been privileged to learning the tips and tricks from a true master. The team at origin have a dedicated fan base, and for good reason. For all your training needs and caffeine injection, definitely stop in!
M.
Learning to be a barista is definitely an experience I would recommend to anyone who enjoys coffee. During the summer holidays I was lucky to have the opportunity to learn to make coffee with Roger and Daniel. I have been equipped with the skills to work as a barista in only a week. Not only is it heaps of fun but learning in a coffee shop also gives you first hand experience with customers and is a great look on your CV.
C.
Stopped to use the public toilets, saw Origin in old railway station, got two LB's both wife and I agreed best coffee we've ever tasted. Get my beans sent to me from Otorohanga. Have done for 3 years now. If you like good coffee try Origin.
W.
Amazing coffee! Amazing staff!
E.
We got dropped off at Origin coffee house in otorohanga on our way to the Waitomo Glow worm caves. The smell of coffee was intoxicating - unapologetically dark and rich. The owner, Roger, is charming and fun to talk to, and the Malawi Express drinks were perfect for an afternoon pick me up. The drink comes with two chocolate covered coffee beans - obviously, these beans are highly caffeinated. My new husband is now frantically recording video of cows for some undisclosed art project. Next time we travel on the Northern Express, this coffee shop is a must-stop location!
A.
Worth making a detour from anywhere to have some coffee here!! The guys running this place are awesome and you’re bound to learn something new about the world of coffee in here. Until next time! :)
K.
Having drunk coffee all over New Zealand (and many parts of the world) I can say with a lot of confidence that the Coffee at Origin is world class.
The direct sourced Malawian coffee has exceptional taste and the roast is soft, almost sweet and lingering on the palate. This is like drinking the speyside highland single malt of coffees consistent, full flavoured but not over roasted and every cup a delight. The coffee compares very closely to Kenyan Peaberry which is regarded as a premium coffee the world over. Keep producing great coffee Roger.

We ended up in Otorohanga and it was a fluke to discover this little great coffee place. Amazing coffee, lovely knowledgeable owner :) it made our day!
J.
I just was reborn over a soy mocha AS WELL As a Soy Iced Frappe!! Mmmm my sweet baby jesus was born in the wrong neighbourhood they obviously haven't tried these frappes, you could almost call this the church of Latte-Day Saints. This is a place of religious worship of coffee, so bring your family and drink the good drink from Friday til Sunday or come for the services all week during open hours... I'd make a public holiday based on this place if I could. And I will. Because I can.
Holy mocha it's freaking soylicious.
S.
Had the best a cup of coffee so far, they make over old train station into caffee, and the ambiance is still linger, will come again next time on the road trip to northland, keep up the quality
D.
Mmm I'm picking up notes of honey, dark chocolate, citrus & tobacco and that's emanating off Roger. The coffee is also good. Hot, strong and well priced.
A.
