Interesting place. They efficient: great beer just made, great service, decent choice of food, good and efficient service. Overall I enjoyed my experience here and looking forward to coming back and trying new beers. Highly recommended Only cons. Background noise quite loud, expansive prices.

One lick of the bao bun and I'm yours bone daddy. We drove here from palmy for lunch, expectations were high (given the current price of petrol) We were not disappointed. You can't go wrong with the beers, they're always a good shout. There is some next level sorcery going on in that kitchen though. The ribs were crispy in all the right places but still pulled away from the bone. The brisket burger was beautifully balanced with the fluffiest of buns. My god the bao buns were to die for, I eat bao buns wherever I go and these were hands down the best. I'd give a kidney to eat those again. The service was exceptional and they actually looked happy to be there! Was so nice to see the staff having a laugh. Thanks Boneface.

UPDATE: had lunch at Boneface yesterday, the great food is back. Had the buttermilk chicken and the aged sirloin - both were top notch! I'm not exactly thrilled to write this but it looks like my recent experience has been others experience too in the past few days. We first visited early March 2021 based on rave reviews from friends about the food. We had a double birthday celebration and everyone was blown away by the food. This week we went back and the menu had been changed, new chef apparently. All the good menu items were gone and the food was literally glorified bar food. My boys both had burgers that were big sliders. It wasn't a cheap meal out ie the gourmet prices for pub grub. We don't drink so while I'm sure the beer is the main attraction it's really disappointing to have taken a turn like this. They did say the menu was only temporary so I really really hope they sort themselves out and bring back the amazing food.

Great experience. The waiting staff were very friendly and helpful. We had our two dogs with us and our waiter bought water over for them proactively. It was a hot day and they also bought water and sunblock proactively for the humans too! Food was very tasty and portion sizes very generous. We'd happily go back.

We came on a busy Sunday and had a couple beers and a snack. Place was packed and we sat outside. Beers were great which is to be expected. The snack we had was really great too. Was let it down a bit was there were a few dirty tables that hadn't been cleared but as mentioned place was very busy so sure it's usually better. Definitely worth popping into when in Brewtown

Another small brewery with great beer and a cool location. Has drinkable and tasty beer. Excellent pub food, tried a meat lovers selection. Venue requires a better bar which can handle tasting and service which is much faster. Waiting in a long line to be served while customers are tasting is a long wait. Having dogs welcome is a winning idea

First time here and it did not disappoint, had the Voodoo XPA and Chicken burger, beer was awesome and the burger was huge and had a good portion of chips. They only thing they didn’t have were high chairs but I guess it’s a pub so maybe that’s why. Go during the week when it’s quieter

Boneface is a large brewery and bar in Upper Hutt’s Brewtown. There is a limited menu available over the holidays including burgers, wood fired pizza and bar snacks. We shared a prawn star pizza featuring 5-6 prawns, some jalapeño slices and random dollops of avocado. The spiced buffalo wings had a real kick but one was enough for me. The mushroom and bok choy crispy dumplings were mushy inside; we didn’t finish these either. The service is good and the retro atmosphere is interesting to look around.

Highly recommend coming here. Place was packed when we arrived (without a booking) but the staff were super accommodating and sorted us out. Food was amazing and the service speed was incredible. Loved the beers we had ‘the unit’ and ‘the outlaw’ Brilliant afternoon outting.

Really nice beer, recommend the Hazy IPA - The Unit. We had the Family Feast very generous portions and meat was succulent and tender with great flavours. Delicious hand cut agria chips too! Can’t go wrong here for a great meal and beverage and friendly efficient service!

Didn't book a table as it was our 1st time visiting, the team managed to organize a table for the 10 of us. Food was great as well as the service. Dog friendly too 👍🏼 Just keep an eye on the toilet as they need a bit of cleaning. We understand it was a busy day for you guys but worth checking often to stay on top of the hygiene side of things. Awesome spot with all the other breweries in Brewtown! Love their Wellington on a plate burger! Well balanced great food on their regular menu! Heaps of beer choices for tasting. Great ambiance! Definitely worth driving to Upper Hutt!

Fantastic place for a beer and a bite to eat! A few vegan options, they have dairy free mozzarella options for the pizzas. Cool decor, tasty beer, comfy seats, and lovely helpful staff. Dogs are allowed inside too!

Always a great atmosphere here and a good selection of beers. It is cool how they allow dogs in the bar/restaurant as well. Order the meat platter, very generous portions for upto four people.

Love Boneface, but was disappointed that they seated our party of 15 people across 2 tables (we were booked in). If they can't seat a booked party at one table they ought to say so when you book. Really detracted from the experience. Would 100% still recommend for smaller groups.

Brilliant airy space that makes day drinking an honourable task. Boneface has offered a superb, well-designed warehouse space off its brewery for you to try these very hoppy offerings. The food is well executed pub fare, more complex than you'd expect from a cellar door, but not a formal dining experience. Go here for a casual night of easy food, including a delicious vegetarian burger, and beer tasting that could carry you into the wee hours.

Service was ACE!! Unfortunately they forgot a meal from our table and there was no kids menu. Although the kids really enjoyed their burgers and pizza, they were quiet big for the little ones. Other than that, it's an awesome venue and lovely service. Adult meals were great too

I feel like Boneface is declining, it used to be a great place to go with friends or my partner. It took a long time to get drinks, the service was slow and the chips that were hand cut and amazing have been replaced with frozen chips, the fried chicken was overcooked. I feel as though people have been noticing the decline as it was far quieter than a usual Friday night. I know with a bit of effort Boneface can turn this around and go back to there high standards.

Great spot to chill out with friends. They have heaps of beers to try, get a flight! We found a nice couchy area and sipped beers (my favorite was called Juice) We we're a large group and ended up ordering heaps of sharing plates: pizza, boneless chicken, mussels, and chips. It was a bit more expensive than nearby Panhead, but it was very, very good!!

Good food, great beer, poor service We were at Boneface for around 2 hours today. Bit of a wait to get in due to the 100 patron limit but no worries there. We’re served as soon as we sat down, and had our first pizza and beer within 15 mins. However over the next 90 mins we weren’t asked if we wanted another drink - which for a brewery I found very odd. In the end I had to chase down our waitress and ask if we could order another. That’s disappointing and frustrating and seems like such an easy thing to get right. Just ask tables if they’d like another drink often and you’ll keep everyone happy and make more money. We probably spent $50 less due to one less round of drinks we might have ordered. All easy fixes, just some effort and maybe another staff member on deck would help. Looking forward to coming back and seeing how things are improved soon. Cheers.

The first couple of times I went here, the food was great. The last time I went, the burgers and service have gone downhill a bit. Still good beer of course but don't go specifically for the food

Arrived expecting a pub type meal. The menu was a pleasant surprise. It was much better. Had the duck salad (gf). The salad itself was really tasty and was full of walnuts, pear and feta. The duck leg was tender and the prosciutto type slices of duck were a lovely surprise. The staff were attentive and professional. I tried one of the artisan gins at the waitress's suggestion. It was called denzien. It was a delicate sensation of flavours, garnished with ground pepper and rosemary. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you team!!

Went to Boneface on the weekend and I have to agree with a few of the recent comments - the food at Boneface appears to be getting worse and worse. I personally had the half rib rack meal. The only thing good was the ribs as it was tasty and the meat fell off the bone. The corn cobs which used to be always freshly grilled and delicious wasn't grilled at all - it was either boiled or microwaved and not very nice wouldn't order it again. Couple of the boys got burgers and fries at $26 for what I'd call a snack sized burger and run of the mill mass produced chips. The burgers used to be quite substantial, delicious and came with hand cut agrias that really complimented the burgers well. The burgers the boys got looked quite sad. The beers however great as per usual. The quality of the food when Boneface first opened up was absolutely amazing and highlights were the crazy sharing platter just after lockdown last year for $90ish and you got ribs/sausages/chicken/brisket/pulled pork and a selection of sides personal favourite was the crispy onion strings/rings. Incredible and really good quality food that really made the overall experience at Boneface so good. Unfortunately last weekend's experience is a long way from those heights and won't be making the trek out to Boneface in a hurry.

Seems to be over occupyed by the young trendy crowd. The main meals were overpriced and small, trying too hard to be "quality" bar food. Great beers is the main reason to try and you won't be disappointed.

Unfortunately I think Boneface have become a victim of their own success. Previously it was the first place I'd recommend to anyone heading to Brewtown. But service has taken a dive in recent months. Staff seem busy and it can take a long time for anyone to even acknowledge you at the bar. Beer is still 5 stars, best in the area .

Omg. Amazing yet again. I messed up and made a booking a week earlier than intended so hubby and I honored our booking. Service is always exceptional. I always try to make a point of trying something new off the menu. This time it was the beef cheek. Highly recommend. Altho, I will warn you, the heat off that ginger relish almost burnt my face off! Hehehe. Usually I couldn't eat something so spicy but the flavor was so on point I just had to keep going. Did always exceeds expectations. Looking forward to coming back next week

Absolutely bloody mint! My partner and I got the beef brisket sliders to share, he got the Darkness (Stout) and I got the Voodoo XPA; both bloody stuffed but loving it! Brisket melted in your mouth with stretchy cheese and soft bread. Chips and corn were bloody tasty and the staff gave good banter. Highly recommend, bloody good eats! 5⭐

Always a great place to go for lunch, or have a function booking. A boutique brewery located in the old Dunlops building in Upper Hutt. Bookings not required, though it will guarantee a table for the numbers you have. Its always pumping here, and plenty of things to keep the kids entertained.

Have had a good experience here in the past but most recently I had a pizza where the flavours were spoiled by the underside being quite charred. A little bit of charring is fine I guess but if the pizza tastes ashy it's too much. Needs a little bit more time at a lower temperature to achieve golden-brown crispness!

I can understand that it does get quite busy on a Saturday afternoon... but customer service should be top priority! Once we got a beer each and food... we asked and waited for plates and cutlery to arrive for about 15mins while our food went cold. Then had to chase up staff again. Guy arrives with cutlery and plates obviously and then we had to ask serviattes too! No one came to us to check if we wanted more drinks or anything else. Also couldn’t do any tasting because everything was in the dishwasher. 3 stars for great beer and food!

I absolutely love going to boneface. It's got a relaxed atmosphere, that's both kid and dog friendly. The beer is amazing and food is delicious. Oh and they do some wicked wood fired pizzas! The staff are also all very helpful.

Great atmosphere and fantastic service. We were a large group and they managed everyone's order efficiently that is we all got what we ordered! Good tasty food. Generous portions. Some of the items on the menu had too many things - case in point is the smoked cauliflower bhajiya. This platter had bhajiya, samosa, polenta chips, some kind of dal, roasted eggplant, some yoghurt, tomato relish, cucumber ribbons and some kind of an Indian pickle. My lemon squid rings were superb and so was the mushroom pizza.

This establishment has tasty food, with an interesting range of dishes at reasonable prices. It is found in the Brewtown complex in Upper Hutt, this is a step above other dining establishments in the area. Located in a fully operational brewery, this means you can also enjoy a freshly brewed craft beer with your meal. There are lots of pinball machines too. The staff were friendly.

I found Boneface a couple of months ago and stopped to sample the beer/s, while most people will find one of the beers will suit their taste the food is what brings me back. The Korean pork belly burger was MAGNIFICENT. Don't pass on the Margherita pizza either. Service is great and friendly. Nothing posh about the atmosphere, take your dog too.

Beer is good, ribs is dry and availabiliy of tables is none usually .All tables are reserved, but all empty, sounds pretty silly to me. Also be aware that if they are fully booked they will simply not answer your call or email. Make sense right, if they are full, the next customer doesn't matter that much, does it?

Awesome beer, best in Wellington possibly all of NZ, everything a Pale Ale should be. I recommend The Unit, and I will try any beer from this place. The food is a perfect match and compliments the quality of the beer. The place is kid and dog friendly, and is exactly the kind of place every town and city needs.

Would really love to leave a full 5 star review as the offerings are fantastic. Beer is delicious and on point for the styles, artwork is amazing, and the food itself (what we tried of it) was very good. My only problem (which makes the experience a 3/5 for me) is that the fries we ordered, within moments of ordering our first round, took over an hour to arrive. After watching several burgers arrive at other tables my partner began to look expectantly towards the kitchen. About fifteen minutes after this I went to the counter to order a second brew (meant to be enjoyed with the delicious brisket chili fries) and to enquire about our food order. I was told there was a mix-up in the kitchen that was being worked out, completely understandable. Another thirty minutes passed before the food finally arrived. Having worked in hospitality for nearly a decade I was none too bothered by this as compensation for the mistake is usually given at checkout, but none was to be had in this instance. I found this really disappointing as large tables received entire meals including fries, burgers, and pizzas while we patiently waited for one order of chili fries.

Fantastic location, staff, food and of course beer. Currently situated at the old Dunlop Tyre factory providing plenty of room to include a kitchen and drinking area within their licensed brewery. They are currently doing up the outside of the brewery to include seating for drinking in the sun. Have sampled almost all the burgers on the menu and they are all top notch, my favorite is the fried chicken burger which is pretty amazing. They also have an off site license meaning that they can sell a selection of their bottles beers for you to take away. Most beers they brew are available on tap and are always crisp and cool. If you want a feed and an afternoon drinking good brews you can't go past Boneface Brewery.

Great tap beers - except they are all 5.2%-6%. For a place that most people drive to, would be nice to see a sessionable / mid strength beer on tap that one could enjoy a pint or two of with lunch and not be half smashed! They do have 2% something in cans if you fancy that. Spoke to the girl behind the bar and she basically said 'Craft beer is all strong, and this is what the boss decides and it's his choice.' Righto then, kumbucha it is!
