Fantastic place to eat drink and stay. The rooms are recently renovated to a style in keeping with this historic hotel. Very well heated too. The garden bar is truly world class! There's a big outdoor fire and there are also 5 greenhouses with a picnic table inside, for year round beer garden enjoyment.

First time visited tho I've been by lots of times and live not too far away. Lots of character, quite busy on this wet Sat afternoon. Didn't eat, but menu looked good, passing food looked great, so will go back one day to dine.

Great garden bar with lots of outdoor seating on the sunny day we were there. Very dog friendly. Table service outside is a nice touch (covid impact, but still nice). Watched a couple and their friends and family setting up for their wedding, would be a great place to host one I'm sure

Plenty of parking for large motorhomes out the back of the Hotel, free to stay overnight . Heaps of character throughout , inside and outside . Dog friendly must be on a leash . Loads of seating available out the back. Some rather interesting ones , ( open end glass houses ) for the windy day . Open fire inside and outside , both working . Service was good . BUT that's where it ends . For dinner , the main menu only had 3 choices. We went for the venison , the dearest at $42 cooked to perfection, but was only enough for a child . I mean it was really really small .So I ordered a bowl of hot chicken wings, also cooked to perfection. We ordered a bottle of wine , this time the cheapest At $50 . We wondered why there was no review , now we know .

Great service even though they were short of staff.. nachos were plentiful and coffee was great! The garden out back was a great setting for our meal and drinks.. loved it! They looking for staff too!

Perfect, as ever. We haven’t been here for almost 20 years and this is the first time we have stayed overnight. This hotel doesn’t change and is all the better for that. Excellent food, a great range of wine and beer, open fires, comfortable leather sofas, a great room, tastefully furnished, what’s not to like? Highly recommended.

First time visit a few week ago and why hadn't I been sooner?! It was just what the doctor ordered, to be able to sit and relax in a great outdoor setting sipping a beer after a hard 60km mountain walk

Party of four stayed a night at Cardrona Hotel. What a lovely place. Real character buildings and a lot of work has gone into making the rooms pretty awesome. Staff were the best and our food was excellent. I encourage you to stay.

Great place, great staff, great food and just perfect weather, so we all got to sit out in the beer garden out the back, absolutely beautiful, can't recommend this place enough to people who haven't been, it's a must, especially on a hot day

Stunning! Beautiful manicured roses against stone walls out the back in lovely beer garden complete with outdoor fire. Great ambience, helpful staff - what more can I say?? Absolute must stop!!

If you drive past this Hotel without going in you are truly missing a Iconic early New Zealand ..roadhouse the caretakers of this property have done a great job of preserving NZ History..

What a cool place, the bar out the back is an awesome surprise. Don't just take the iconic pic and bail, have a drink and nibble, won't be disappointed.

Definitely worth a overnight stay. The room was an older style room which went with the theme of the hotel. Food was excellent. All staff friendly.

Iconic place to stop. Lamb burger and Chicken strips were good but felt like the service could have been better.

Beautiful place and ambience to have a drink. It was a busy day in January and we came from the airport famished yet there was upto a 45min wait on food, disappointing, so we had to go to Wanaka.

We stopped off for a meal on 20/11/2021. My usual concern with tourist spots is; is it well ... too touristy? My concern was unfounded here helped by the great service from the staff and the quality and quantity of the meal and the ambience of the surroundings. On the previous day we had attended a wedding and were still digesting a beautiful meal we had there but thought we would top up at the hotel. We decided on the nachos and the very pleasant and helpful staff member advised us we might like to share rather than buy a plate each because the helpings were quite large. I am glad we took her advice because she was right. The meal was great both for its quantity and quality. Guests can choose to eat indoors or out depending on the weather.

A true gem! Beautiful garden, lovely indoor setting including fireplace, attentive staff, good barista coffees and a quite extensive pub food menu. My partner couldn’t be happier, he got to drink Bundaberg rum, which he hadn’t come across since arriving in NZ

Not the first time visiting here and always a chilled place to visit. Nice areas to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and a drink or 2 surrounded by history.

Amazing, even pet friendly (as long as it is on a lead) had the gourmet wedges, I would recommend them.

Beautiful outdoor setting for a late lunch. We just missed out on the bao buns. The salad with edamame beans courgette and avocado was delicious. I loved the cheeseburger wontons with my Cardrona ale. The boys at the table next door liked their big bottles of beer.

Food was delicious and flavourful. Atmosphere at the back is great for kids and adults alike. Definitely stop for a meal or snacks as it’s well worth it

Spent a lovely afternoon here outside in the garden area, friendly staff and nice food, great place to sit back and relax and enjoy the atmosphere especially if you are not in a rush to be anywhere so you can enjoy the location

Cardrona Hotel is a must visit place... Understated from the outside you could easily drive past BUT DON'T... Once inside you'll be treated to drinks, food and a great atmosphere with a large garden area that's absolutely beautiful... 😊

Iconic stop for a coffee or beer and a pic. Lots of history to soak up and great sculpture for the kaarearea.

Wonderful place. Good food. Great inside. Not much to look at from the outside but its like a TARDIS inside.

Great service and conversation with bar staff. Nice food options with various inside and outside seating options. We sat outside in the sun but it was a crisp day still so wrap up to keep the chills at bay! Very iconic stop with accommodation available and a hop skip and a jump from Cardrona ski fields and Wanaka.

A very friendly and really amazing place. Really felt welcome with very attentive staff. It was unfortunate that our stay was interrupted by a Level 4 national lockdown and the very kind attention we got really help ease the stress. We will definitely be back again. Thanks.

Great food, great ambiance and great people. Had a fantastic bar meal with a quick pint of beer. This place is as all knows is legendary, and lived up to its name. Thought a photo of the inside and rustic back yard would be better than yet another one of the hotel frontage.

I thought the Cardrona Hotel might potentially be a somewhat superficial outfit behind the famous historic façade, but no, it's a bloody excellent pub and restaurant. Buzzing atmosphere, lovely staff, and top-notch food (as a family we ate a range of delicious offerings during our two visits). Cosy inside, and plenty of space outside with fires to sit around. Highly recommended!

Beautiful place to stop and have a Drink. Lovely seating area outside on a sunny day. A outdoor Fireplace also for cold days or nights. Check out the glass floor near the Bar. So cool to see so much History here.

Love this old hotel. The decor is wonderful with loads of atmosphere. Although we did not have time for a meal the drinks we had were great. A wander around the outside area also was interesting with vintage trucks, old barns and cute cottage. The accommodation looked amazing and if ever back this way would definately stay the night just for the experience.

Nice little place to stop after the hill. Good portion sizes for the prices of the food. Don't buy the chocolate frommthe gift shop. It's terrible, and the price does not reflect that!

Anything less than 5 stars is a lie! This iconic pub is a must visit. With great food, staff and atmosphere. There is even a gift store on site with great variety. The massive fire places, both inside and out ensure a warm visit no matter the weather - highly recommended

We were here back in October and I couldn't say better things. We stayed the night and had an exceptional meal with outstanding service. Last night though we drove up from Queenstown for dinner the service was slow and the food was average at best. I have to assume the chef has changed and not for the better. We will not be rushing back.

The Cardrona Hotel is wonderful! Their food is great, the service is with a smile, the little glass houses outside are peeeeerfect. Honestly, always stop in if you get the chance.

Iconic- not to be missed on the beautiful Crown Range Road between Wanaka & Arrowtown. Cardrona itself is a destination.

Beautiful hotel/bar restaurant. Stopped in here after our quad biking tour. Big lot of parking opposite to the hotel. Can feel a whole lot of history in this place and its very packed (although we did go on a Friday and it looked like all the locals from Queenstown had just finished work but I'm guessing it will be packed all hours of the week) Very busy inside and out although there will be seating you just have to look out for it! Place your order up at the bar and they'll manage to find you and bring it over. (Can take a while because they're busy but it is worth the wait while you have a cold drink 🙂) Lots to choose from the menu we got the beef rendang baos and the seafood chowder, both were good and the rendang had a nice kick of spice to it! Will give both 4 🌟 stars out of 5. Also had a big jug of the speights old gold which was beautiful! Must visit when you're in the area.

If you get the chance stay here. Lovely room. Warm & cosy. Interesting place with a lot of history. Food is very good. Hot tub outside, great for after skiing.

The team here are the most kind and helpful team. We lost our keys and they spent ages helping us looking for them, even going out in the cold weather. Not to mention the hotel is beautiful and food is great!

What a neat place! Went here after visiting the mountain and had a beer in one of the glasshouses in the garden. Great fired chicken and chips, the brisket toasted sandwich was amazing! Busy place but loads of places to sit and eat both inside and out

Well what can i say other than amazing. The character, the hospitality and atmosphere i could not fault. Cold weather the outside and inside fires kept us warm. The heating in our room was spot on. The most memorable part of my south island holiday. Would love to see a little nz style food on the menu to match the character of the hotel. I will be back 👌

Amazing service, the staff are so accommodating and lovely!!! I lost my keys, they found them and they are posting them back up to Auckland for me. So bloody thankful for this lot. Kind people, quality food and that mulled wine was delicious.

Awesome historical building that is so relaxing. Have a drink in front of the fire or if fine, outside in the garden or just pick up a coffee to go. Good coffee. Great staff.

I must say try the fish n chips!! My father inlaw had it and we had some of the fish so good. It was really busy that day so the wait was long but then it was a good excuse to have another beer. Such a historical place inside and a cosy fire too. The drive up Cardrona mountain was breathtaking.

The hotel restaurant is very beautiful with a stunning garden out the back. However we waited almost 45 minutes for our food and no one mentioned a wait when we arrived. There were 2 vegan dishes and no vegan red wine which was very disappointing. The summer tofu bowl was very salty and had a bit too much soy sauce but otherwise it was pleasant. I would visit again but maybe just for a drink. Our waiter was lovely and very helpful though.

A great place to stay, outdoor hot tub was great to soak in after horse trek. Clean and tidy rooms and bed was comfortable. Enjoyed the outside fire place. Amazing meal, great service and friendly helpful staff. Looking forward to coming back again.

Nice food busy and staff were helpful

Fantastic place. Not a single disappointment from the moment you first glimpse the famous facade! Rooms were immaculate and comfortable and yet still quaintly old fashioned. Bathroom products top notch. Staff super friendly. Gardens,bar and dining area gorgeous, can easily imagine a big group gathering here for a special party ocassion but was also perfect for just my husband and myself quiet weekend. Breakfast scramble was the best I've tasted in Sth Island! Loved it! Planning on a return visit to bring my Mum 😊

An iconic piece of New Zealand history. A must stop before Wanaka or before the Crown range, fire was roaring and second fire place out the back in the garden. Great images on the wall to remind us of a time before. Looking forward to see it under snow conditions.

Lovely afternoon with a wine and great food.

We had a great stay here for a couple of nights. The views are amazing and the room offers outside table and chairs. We were in a 1 bed apartment which was immaculate clean and tidy. Best nights sleep ever here the bed was amazingly comfortable with the added bonus of electric blankets. The hotel grounds are beautifully kept and the staff are incredibly informative on where to eat, what to see and do. Well done 👍

Great place to stop off and have a nice meal either inside or out in the huge shaded yard out the back. Read a bit of quirky history while you are waiting for your meal, play some games or just relax enjoy the atmosphere and have a tipple of which the have a good selection of tap bear and wines

A lovely old (mid 19th century) old pub. A great place for a drink on a hot summer day in the lovely back garden. I am not sure what it would be like in the garden in the middle of winter with foot-deep snow, but then I guess you would go inside and warm yourself by the fire. Highly recommended

Very nice place to stop for a feed or coffee. The restaurant serves very delicious foods. Staffs are nice. Lots of parking spaces. It also got a fireplace which is nice. Sitting next to the fireplace in the garden whike having coffee is nice too. We definitely reccomend this place.

Great pub! With so much character

Iconic Nz pub with a cool outdoor place to eat and drink whether it be a sunny summers lunch or a clear wintery night. Food and drinks are very good and staff are hospitable.

Beautiful place to stop at and even better to stay overnite. Loved it, even the ear plugs in the suite to drown out the Ghosts moaning during the night. Our snoring in the comfortable bed avoided the use of the ear plugs. Meals great, staff great ,even the drinks were great.

Sorry but after a 50 min wait for food, it was mediocre. Almost like our food order had been forgotten about. We understood there was a 20 min wait after a busy lunch but at 3pm when it was quiet we didn't expect 50 mins and to see others who ordered after us be served earlier. Not a good food service but is worth a stop for a drink and to admire the old hotel.

Great little hotel, we really enjoyed our stay at the weekend. Rooms were quaint and the beds were warm & really comfortable. Breakfast was wholesome and delicious, really great. Thank you!

A great place to stop for a bite to eat. We ordered nachos, wedges and fried chicken. Even though these are snacks on the menu, this ended up being our dinner, as the portions were so big (shared amongst 3). Some of the best pub food we've had!

DO NOT drive past this place! Just an amazing little hotel, with history, warmth and charm! Great wine, beer and yummy wedges!

Fabulous place with so much history. Didn't stay there had a nose inside one of the bedrooms so nice wished we booked. Real open fire such a treat :)

Nice place to have a drink after being up on the mountain. Being a summers day it took a while to get drinks and then food as it was very busy. Out in the beer garden there was a good band that had people up dancing. Toilets were clean. Food and drinks served were very nice. Staff all friendly. Out of the sun under a tree was the best spot

What a cool historic site, we stopped for lunch and the steak was nothing less than perfect! Thick, perfectly cooked and seasoned with amazing flavoured butter.

Great atmosphere, the south island best kept secret

A must do! Kiwi icon! So many beers. We asked for the bluecod to be panfried instead of deep fried. One was super delicious and fresh, the other not as much. The fresher one was great, but it only comes with shoestring fries. It should come with veges. There is Mulled wine, fires outside to toast marshmallows on, a photo exhibition, old cars, a playground and the decor inside is cool! Bring a foreign money note to stick on the ceiling or coins. Always busy, so just line up and wait, it really is worth it!

Great historical pub xcellent seafood chowder

We dined here a week ago for dinner and ordered off the restaurant menu, which I believe changes seasonally. It is quite a small menu and a couple of the items weren't available, but what we did have was deeeeelicious! The arancini balls and the doughballs (we were in the mood for balls obviously) were super good. I had a vegetarian gnocchi and my husband had the steak for mains which were both excellent. Thanks for having us :)

Great spot! So much history. Had brunch, big breakfast, and eggs bene, very tasty. and coffee was great. comfortable spot. The best!

One of the oldest historical hotels in NZ. It was packed when we got there and lots of customers are those who travel for skiing.

Lunch here was well worth the wait, they were extremely busy but friendly and helpful, they had the fire going so it was warm. Definitely worth a visit.

I was only here to take interiror, exterior and garden pictures of the famous Cardrona hotel. It's impressive how the owner/management managed to preserve the old looking premise. It feels like going back to the old mining days when you get inside the bar and the lobby. The rose garden is beautiful.

The Dhal was dull and undercooked, the chowder was ok but not great, the broccoli soup was average, the service was slow (even for covid), and no water despite asking for it. Great setting and atmosphere though, and the mulled wine was decent. This was a late lunch and it wasn't busy.

Almost skipped it as always thought it was only for tourists but a lovely garden seating area and the food was excellent. Will definitely stop again next time we're passing through.

Really rustic spot. Awesome atmosphere, feels like I'm back in the pioneer days. Would really love to have checked out the outdoor dining facilities but couldn't due to weather issues. Also the mulled wine looked interesting and the staff were very friendly.

After a drive from Te Anau to Arrowtowb. and on to Cardrona via the Crown Ridges Rd we stopped for beer and wedges. There is a tasty menu and accomodarion available if you want to stay. Cool setting. Definitely always worth a stop for a drink or a snack if you are passing through.

A Sunday night away. Fantastic accommodation, very reasonably priced. Staff were great, food delicious, fire was on and the beer was cold.

OMG amazing! We ordered their Lentil soup with Ciabatta, which sounds Meh, but was utterly delicous. The courtyard behind the Cardronna front entry, was a summer lawn with trees, the outdoor fire place, cottage gardens against the stone buildings was idillic. Indoors was quaint, fire lit and cosy. So worth a visit.

Visited the pub for food only. After ordering our mains in the restaurant area, we waited a long time for their arrival (a family who ordered after us were all finished with their meals by the time our food arrived). The food itself was lovely, as was the ambience. We then decided to order a dessert to share - a Creme Brulee. This also took a long time to arrive and when it did it was obvious the custard had not been allowed to set before it was caramelised for, when cracking the top with a spoon, its contents exploded onto the table. I immediately showed this to a server who took it back to the kitchen. The server then returned and said that the chef said there was no problem with the dish, that it was the restaurant's style to serve a liquid Creme Brulee, and no replacement would be offered. We were offered a refund for that dish though - which we promptly accepted. A disappointing and highly confusing end to our middling experience there.

The hotel delivered exactly the way it was advertised which we have found lacking in New Zealand where the hotels over promise and under deliver. The room a standard queen was beautiful and backed into the gardens which were amazing. The staff were great and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay

I didn't stay the night, I just ordered a soft drink and explored. It's absolutely beautiful. People working here are friendly.

Our friends got married and had their reception here last week and it was gorgeous! Had the best meal Ive had in a long time! The staff were lovely and very kind to our fussy baby in a highchair throwing toys and getting in the way. Which I must salute as they were all very busy keeping every glass full and platters of food on the table. Loved the copper bar in this very gorgeous rustic style establishment. Made a very cold day feel cosy and warm.

Stopped here for lunch last week & the food was excellent! The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was great & the gardens are lovely.

This place has so much history to explore. It has beautiful backyard and it’s theme is very unique and wonderful. The food is simply amazing, also it is in a good location in the middle of a road trip to stop and eat. There are lots of flowers and even a playground for kids to eat. It has a old school house gift shop and is close to the Bra fence, Bradrona. I love it here and will definitely come back.

Cold beer, warm open fires, good grub, friendly staff - what more could you want ?!! The smell of the open fires roaring all afternoon is just need after a long day out up in the snow. This history of the place is worth reading about. A good ol kiwi pub at its Best !!

Great food for such a remote location

Lovely old ambient hotel, jam packed with history. Great food selections and alcohol. Will need to book table to eat in restaurant as this is a popular place. Lovely helpful staff. Great open wood fires to warm by and comfy couches.

Great place for a stop. Seafood platter was one of the best I have had. Perfectly cooked, with clean oils, light and very tasty. Great flavors. Perfect selection of goodies. Country Chicken was the same. Perfection. Washed down with a nice cool cider. Was unfaultable perfect guys and gals.

Iconic! I wish I had stayed longer...mulled wine and toasted marshmallows around the fire, simplicity at its finest.

I had previously been here and the experience was amazing. I was so excited to take my husband there having never been in the South Island. To arrive and be told there is an “at least 1 hour wait”. I understand busy time’s, but that’s far to long with young children. We left and found food in Wanaka. Was very disappointing

They were busy as BUT still did a great job! Chef and kitchen crew kept food coming out to everyone that was there. Great kids area. Great vibes. Was great weather. Great service. A good amount of tables to choose from, in the sun and in the shade. Also a lovely grass area with trees to sit under if you like. Fire place area and even tho it was the middle of summer it was going so if our summer is still cold for you then there is somewhere warm for you to sit and enjoy.

Food & atmosphere is good. We came here twice in one week, once on Saturday and on Thursday at lunch time and both times the wait for food was 1 hour. This was for chips and nachos so pretty disappointing. Would recommend for a quick stop in but not if you are hungry.

Loved dropping in here on a tour with Remarkables Scenic Tours. Beautiful old pub with so much history, surrounds and gift shop. No chance to eat here but liked great. Would love to see this when it’s snowing.

What a beautiful part of New Zealand’s history. Was driving through and had to stop once we had seen such a magical building established in 1865. We had lunch and a drink. Very good food service by really nice people. Lovely outside gardens and seating. Pliant of parking opposite. A great stop.

We had a wonderful stay over Christmas Eve and Christmas. The staff were extremely friendly, the room was spotless, and sitting by the fire in the backyard was a dream. Thank you so much for making our holiday special!

It may be a 3 star hotel but the staff and food bumped it to a 4 star for us. Great hospitality and great location if you want to do a bit of alpine action at Cardrona. Good pressure in the shower and instant hot water after a long day our with the family are appreciated. The shop has great and thoughtful merchandise to take with you home as well.

A historical hotel at roadside with a beautiful garden in the back showing all things of the past. Love the plantation therein and the atmosphere when people having their tea or snacks. The souvenir shop used to be a school in the past.

Love the atmosphere. We had a late lunch early dinner. I had the chicken and they were great. No bones and plenty. I had chips with them and was very happy with my meal. Hubby's meal is pictured. He had the nachos.

Historic country pub in wonderful setting This is a gorgeous country pub with a fantastic beer garden. We came for lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon and sat outside listening to the live music. Our seafood chowder and lamb salad were very good - and it didn't take too long to come out even though it was busy.

Stopped in on the 9th July 20 @ 1.30pm for a much needed lunch and was amazed at the knowledge of the bar staff in regards to providing food for Coeliac's (Gluten Free). She was very clear in explaining what I could and could not have and also clearly wrote notes on my order and spoke directly with the chef to confirm that It was safe for me to eat there. Unfortunately I don't get her name, but she put my concerns to rest. This is what I call service!!!! My Beef Burger was PERFECTLY cooked and the Fries did NOT effect me at all. It was so nice to finally set with freinds and be able to have a cider and meal with them. THANK YOU Cardrona Hotel for being aware of the unfortunate Coeliac's which DO NOT have a choice in the food we have to eat. Well done!!!!

Historic small little bar and restaurant in the scenic Cardrona valley, will serves amazingly good food and their in house brewed Cardrona ale is a must try. And their efforts in preserving history is commendable. A must visit place.

Great pub, historic on the outside with such a lot of history. The inside is full of character warm and cosy , the beer garden out the back is beautiful, perfect place for a relaxing drink. Plenty of seating, with the odd bean bag, shady with nice green grass . Didn't eat, but the food that I saw looked delicious, menu had a good variety. Would definitely spend time here summer or winter.

Always love visiting this place. It's a bit of NZ that is iconic. I haven't tried the food but the muld wine and sangria in summer is very nice. Very nice garden bar. Have not seen accomodation.

We did not stay here but we came here as a stop with our tour guide. She bought us all ginger beer which was very nice and refreshing. There is a lot of history at this hotel. You just have to take the time to look at the photos and artwork on the walls. Near the bar area, there is a clear plastic window in the floor. It is an old mining shaft (if I remember correctly). The food here looked and smelled great. The portion sizes seem appropriate, with a slight balance towards larger portions. I don't think this place is a must see attraction on your first trip to New Zealand. If you have nothing to do or on your 2nd trip, then you can come here.

This was a cute little place except when we walked in no one greeted us or asked if we needed assistance. There was a nice fireplace outside but only good for one table. we were disappointed in the service received. And had to find another place to have lunch. I also use the bathroom which was quite smelly. Potentially the food look great on the tables when walking past.

We had an evening meal here which was very good. There was a range of local beer on tap too. The beer was well kept. Plenty of seating options especially if the weather is good. Very friendly atmosphere, no music which was actually a big plus! Will be visiting again...

A little bit of history and we couldn't visit the south without stopping for the photo op. This place is like the tardess.... walk through the doors and it becomes way more than you expect.

We stopped here whilst visiting New Zealand on a motorhome tour, and had a wonderful lunch out in the rear garden. Plus check out the mine shaft in the floor of the main bar, wow. We had a fabulous time on our trip and everywhere we went the scenery was amazing, the people friendly and very welcoming. We can thoroughly recommend you do the same as New Zealand is an amazing place. Highly recommended 👍

Don't know why it's taken me so long to visit this iconic county pub, it's legit, serving some good local ales and food. Bring a driver and stay a while.

Always love stopping by the Cardrona Hotel after a day of hiking or skiing. Great beers on tap, delicious food and great atmosphere either out in the garden or by the fire.

Wonderfully rustic and very busy. Most amazing deer antlers over the roaring log fire.

Great atmosphere inside and out. Food hearty and a good selection for all diets. Tourist prices, but not overly expensive. Fire places inside and out adds to the charm

The Fried Chicken and Fried Pickles were astonishing! Keep it up! Would love to come back!

A must see. Reminds me of old country pubs back in the UK. Big beer garden around the back, good beer, didn't try the food but it smelled incredible coming out of the kitchen. Great for stopping off for a quick apres pint on the way home from Cardrona.

This could be one of the best stops on the south island. The location, hotel and people has created one of my new favourite places I could spend a large amount of time. I enjoyed a few beers in the garden out the back watching small finches flying around jostling for food under the trees, with the back drops of hills in the back ground. If you are driving along Cardona Valley road please make this the place you stop and spend some time, you will not be dissapointed.

We stayed at the Cardrona as a treat on our travels. Amazing large room with bath. Loved all the old features. Fireside dinner and breakfast. Particularly our breakfast was delicious!

Worth checking it out if you are passing by. It has the smell of vintage and history. I like the indoor fireplace so much. Just go and enjoy some ale with friends around the fireplace in winter. Or you can go outside in the garden when it is warmer. Interestingly, a few hundred yards away from the main building there is a site where thousands of bras are hanging on the fence to raise the awareness of breast cancer. I would give a thumbs up for the creativeness.

Stopped for a coffee here while driving through to Wanaka. An absolute charming heritage place to visit, beautiful outdoor garden to enjoy a coffee, meal or drinks. Spent a most enjoyable hour here.

Cool little bar and garden nestled in the mountains. Stayed overnight during winter, it was great to sit around the outdoor fire!

I went to the restoraunt for some fried chicken with my friends. It was reccomended, but I felt it was an ok chicken. Payed around 60$ for a 2 people lunch. It s the only place nearby, very characteristic. I had some issue with my credit card and I felt a bit pressured to fix it in a few seconda rather than with calm. They have a very nice backyard, where you can sit and eat your food.

This place is amazing one of nz best beer gardens and you can even take ya dog in 4 a drink as long as thay well behaved,food is all so realy realy good

Spent a pints worth of time here but would have spent a kegs worth, and also stayed the night, and probably eaten dinner there too because the food looked like the grouse. Super friendly staff and an exquisite beer garden. Would have really dug going there with my folks if I was a little kid because it’s a good area to play tip or brandings.

Bit of a touristy spot not bad but can get crazy busy with kids in the holidays and ski season! Bring back the old days leave the kids in the car with a fizzy drink and some chips...

Beautiful old building, full of character. The courtyard out the back is large and offers many things to occupy the kids. Food was good and atmosphere had a fantastic Kiwi feel. Definitely go just for the sake of getting some lunch at a historical place.

Beautiful wee place. We just went for dinner and food was yummy but half the stuff my partner and I wanted was advertised on the menu but they had ran out even though we were first in for a meal that night? So pretty disappointed in that and the waitress that I felt was taking the piss out of me when I asked for food that was on the menu but not available but what we ended up ordering was great and my partner said was best seafood chowder he's ever had! So all in all a pretty mixed review

Always a great spot for a beer or coffee. Gets very busy during peak times in summer which is understandable as its popular with both tourists and locals. Great outdoor area, bean bags and swings good for the kids. In winter it's great beside the fire.

Just had a light meal consisting of the soup of the day with some garlic bread. By one of the many fire places with the nice thick bread was exactly what I wanted on a chilly winter's day. Wish we could have tried their other fare!

An absolute icon of New Zealand and it's been on the bucket list to visit this place for a while. So we had the obligatory beer and mulled wine by the outdoor fire at 11.30am the way through to Wanaka. Would love to go back and stay a night or two there.

Perfect place for a tipple and hearty meal post ski. Just enough atmosphere without being too crazy. This old-style pub serves delicious pub classics and local beers/wines at a relatively reasonable price. The courtyard feels like a family block party. Really gorgeous.

Not the best nachos. Good atmosphere though. Also they didnt have the sticky date pudding at 7pm as it was sold out already. If you are going to have it as a staple on your menu then at least ensure you have enough.

Good food, nice fire, historical with some facts displayed. Would recommend the 'cardrona ale'. Like other people said, food can take a while, but no better place to sit and drink. Enjoyable indie playlist on as well.

This mid 19th century clapboard and stone hotel is a must stop on the way. There is a pub/restaurant located inside which has a good selection of items on their menu. And how picturesque is this!!!

Very good food for a pub sort of place. We had a seafood chowder, chicken burger and fried chicken. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Beatiful garden behind the main building!

Epic, iconic pub at (2 mins drive) from the bottom of the cardrona ski area access road. Definitely worth a visit after a day on the hill. Does get incredibly busy and a bit chaotic but that's all part of the fun. Mulled wine, good beer on tap. Awesome beer garden out the back which when it snows looks amazing. Lots of great food options but can take awhile when it's heaving!

Good food and great service. A member of our party was celiac and forgot to mention they needed the burger gluten free and they gave him a new burger at no charge! Will come back.

Food is great, however expect to wait about an hour on average for your food. Even for simple orders such as Bao, fries or nachos. Would recommend if your passing by, but don’t come already hungry.

More than meets the eye from the road. Full of character and iconic meals and snacks. Beer choice is light, but wide enough varieties to suit most tastes. Would drive out for sure from QT or Wanaka.

Charming place right off the side of the road practically in the middle of nowhere. This place is a hotel, restaurant, bar, cafe, outdoor picnic area and wedding venue all rolled into one! The food, while we didn't try, looked phenomenal. Our beverages, a cider and a flat white, were phenomenal. The service was friendly. And we loved the location so much, we did a little research into wedding costs there. :)

The food was good and the atmosphere was very nice but the wait for the food was too long. I think the staff was focused on the larger party inside. I heard a few other customers asking where their food was. Overall it is a nice restaurant but I think we hit it at a time when the staff wasn't ready for the number of people they had to handle.

Stopped for breakfast and was blown away by how nice it was. Believe me I've had a few and this was right up there with some of the best. Have been going here for year's and the place is getting better each time. The attention to detail is in keeping with the ambience for the age of the original hotel.

The venison burger was really good as the staff nice. Such a unique place. They really love there hotel for them to create such a genuinely lovely experience for their guests.

The bar/restaurant was full of character and atmosphere. It felt like a place with a story behind it, which it definitely is. The Cardrona hotel was build in the 19th century, during a gold rush. You can still feel the vibes there now. Additionally there was great fast service and everything was spotless. I would definitely recommend stopping of at Cardrona to spend the night or just have a drink 😁

What can I say! This is one of NZs historic jewels. The iconic Cardrona Hotel restored many years ago, and continues to build on theme of hospitality from a bygone era. I'd you drive past without dropping in you've done yourself a huge disservice, and missed a real treat. Great food and bonhomie.

Always nice to sit and relax out the back on a sunny day. Staff were great. Even though we were told food was an hour wait we had no worries sitting with a beer outside by the fire chilling out.

My husband and I have had lunch here quite a few times and we've always loved it, so it was great to spend a night here last weekend and experience the hotel as well as the restaurant! As always the food was fantastic, we love sitting outside by the fireplace, yes even in February. I can recommend the mac n cheese, the pulled pork burger, the garlic bread and of course the frickles. Our hotel room was warm, quiet and comfortable, the whole place has a cosy vibe. I wish I knew they had a hot tub beforehand, we would have brought our swimsuits! The included breakfast is only continental, so we paid extra to have eggs benedict, which was delicious.

Fantastic experience dining at this was. The staff are super friendly and food was very tasty. The general atmosphere of the place was very upbeat and the live music with a nice touch. Definitely worth a visit!

This place was really great! I visited it on a week long trip to the Queenstown/Wanaka area. The building itself was very comfortable and unique. I loved the massive fireplace the greated me when I first entered. (fire was roaring) The first time I stopped here I had the lamb salad for lunch. It was very tasty and was composed of medium rare lamb, w/ greens, veggies, and baba ganoush. My companions had the venison burger, which looked awesome too. The second meal I had was for brunch, and it was a smoked salmon eggs benedict. The poached eqq was cooked perfectly, not too runny, and the hollandaise was spot on. This paired excellently with the smoked salmon. Overall, I really enjoyed my visits here. The food was great, the beer was good, and so were the coffee creations. I did not experience the hotel part. Enjoy!

Such a cool place but so so busy couldn't order a drink because it was so busy!

Iconic is an understatement. It is also a great spot to stop between Wanaka and Queenstown for a bite to eat and a drink. Plenty of room for children to run around and adults to stretch their legs.

The location is outstanding and in the summer the gardens are absolutely lovely to sit in. The food is good enough. Not exactly outstanding but OK. The service was OK as well. Just pretty average. They do have a great beer selection which is nice. But really it is the location and the building itself which would be a reason to stop. It is not like Queenstown and Wanaka are exactly short of pubs.

This historic pub is a popular stop off on Crown Range Road between Queenstown and Wanaka. It's atmosphetic and apart from alcohol, serves coffee and reasonable pub meals.

When you stand in front of the ‘postcard famous’ Cardrona Hotel it wouldn’t make you think that it would be an ideal place for a stag do... and you’d be right! However for 1 nights stay for my friends “adventure themed” bachelor weekend it was a great place to finish up our evening. It made me think, I’d love to take the missus here if they welcome me back.

A great spot to stop on the way over the Crown Range or after a day up the mountain. The Mulled wine is always good. And they have a nice selection of food and beer.

Nice day to stop in and have a beer Cardrona Ale was beautiful.Surroundings beautiful fireplace burning was awesome lots of characteristic things to look at outside and inside old photos loved it.

The classic stop after a hard day on the slopes. Pub food is ok. I have yet to dine in the restaurant which has a wider menu after 6. It's popular after ski fields close so you will usually need to wait for a seat

Called in for dinner and drinks after golf. Fabulous meal loved the garden setting and staff were very welcoming.

Simply enchanting. The rooms are small, and not super sound proof. However the staff are wonderful, the food quite delicious and the bar stocked and approachable. Overall an excellent accomidation

This place is so cool. Grab a beer here and enjoy the really unique pub. Didn't try the food so can't comment but it looked dam good.

This picturesque little hotel is a great place to stop for a bite or drink on the way in or out of Wanaka or Cardrona. They have a fire inside to warm yourself by and another one out the back. Out back there are also a couple of classic cars in the shed to check out as well as a play area for the kids.

Stayed here 2 nights. The staff were really friendly and easy to talk to and the food was really nice

Just popped in for a drink and snacks en route to Arrowtown. Apparently the most photographed pub in NZ. Lovely atmosphere, toasty warm open fires, inside and outside. Points of interest in the pub include a mine shaft in the floor, and lots of old photos and paraphernalia. Swings outside for kids. Accomodation available. I imagine it gets very busy in ski season.

The eggs on toast was ok, coffee was good the wait was very long but expected on new years day

This place is an absolute gem! We walked into a guy playing piano in the corner. Money from all over the world on one patch of ceiling, young protrait of the queen and an antique pistol hanging on the wall. The service was impeccable and we had some of the most well cooked and unique nachos I have ever had! Plate came out super hot, all the salsa and guacamole was already on top. You needed a fork to get into it but it was soo tasty. Out back it the cutest court yard. Setting fit for a beautiful wedding reception with an outdoor fire place. Loved every bit of this place.

A very historic landmark. We've been here many times during our travels between Wanaka and Queenstown. Good atmosphere, good food and drinks, by great friendly service. An added special treat is during the winter when the open fire is burning.

Service and food was awesome. Shame about the bollards in front to discourage photos. They have created a traffic hazard.

Warm and cozy place after apres ski. We ordered the tartine, so deli ! And the Cardrona beer is also really good. The place has a lot of history and is really cool the old architecture.

A great stop off point between Queenstown and Wanaka. Enjoy a coffee, a refreshing cold drink or go all the way with a full meal. Take advantage of the outdoor seating to enjoy the sunshine and the large fire. This historic hotel is a must do to soak in the atmosphere of yesteryear.

Loved the whole place, nice and warm by the fire as it was quite a cold day. Great selection of beers and great food! Would recommend stopping in!!

I always like Cadrona Hotel It's a great stop for a meal just before the crown range. The food is good in food but the court yard out the back is rich in local history before the hotel is 154 years old.

Cool historical place with plenty of charm. Great to drop into after a day of skiing or to spend an afternoon when the weather is bad. Didn’t have the food but the mulled wine was amazing!

We were traveling to Wanaka stopped at cordrona to have lunch and drinks. The place was really busy and usually is I would say so expect the order to arrive late r than you are expectin.it took around 50 mins for our two mains. We ordered nachos and the veggie sandwiches. The servings were huge, we both couldn't finish the dishes and ended up eating the remaining take away for dinner as well. Sandwiches were really good. The nachos were ok. Definitely worth a visit.

Stopped on the way to Wanaka and had two coffees and two cheese and bacon scones. My wife and I really enjoyed the scones and the coffee. The lady behind the counter had a great conversation around the bear trap (see photo) She was very pilot and was very friendly to our little one. One thing I can comment on was the waiter girl kept coming over to often and clearing a spoon then a cup then a plate... Would have preferred her to wait until we were done. Apart from that, a great place to stop for a break. Second time here in 5 years. Both times successfull.

Very impressive hotel, a memorial to all the miners and old timers who worked on the gold fields. Outstanding rooms, outstanding food and service. Most highly recommended.

Very clean, comfortable, fantastic food, good atmosphere. Dont try to phone them to let them know you maybe late as they will not answer the phone but overall lovely place. You wont be dissappointed

Nice place, very long history, mythical for new zealand. Good atmosphere, nice beer. Garden is spacious and very agréable. The fries were very average.

Beautiful inside and out. Hotel rooms to rent bar and restaurant all together get 5 star from me.

Finally got to have a drink there, well worth the wait. Lovely setting and discovered that it also has accommodation. Would love to stay there next time we are down in Queenstown.

This is a great historical building. It was a long but beautiful drive up to the Hotel. Take your time and enjoy the views along the way.

Our guide said it was the first and most famous pub in NZ, so definitely worth a visit. The produce a type of beer not sold anywhere else

Friendly staff and a great place to stop

DON'T DRIVE PAST THIS VERY POPULAR AND ENJOYABLE HOTEL. You'll be most disappointed when ( if) you learn what a mistake that was. We don't live in the South Island but whenever we go there our trip route always goes through Cardrona. That's because of this wonderful character hotel and its grounds and all the staff and the quality of everything there. GO :-)

Lovely place with nice athmosfer. Very nice wines - Sauvignon Blanc a Riesling. Excellent Welington, I have never eaten the best before and my wife has very satisfied with chicken supreme too.

What an iconic place to visit ! The atmosphere here is very special, as you can really feel the history all over the place ! Defenitely a place to stop if you drive past . Oh and the chips are delicious !

Increadable place to stop. Dont let the front fool you. Wonderfull gardens with views to the snow capped mountains. Inside you can order meals while you wait in front of the open fire. Make a point to deliberately go there rather than pass it buy.

What a spot! Great outdoor area, friendly staff. Food was a bit pricey but I can't wait to return.

The atmosphere cannot be equalled. The food is great. The roaring fires are fabulous in winter. What a wonderful place.

The building and surrounding gardens are beautiful. We stopped for drinks and food on the way to Wanaka from Queenstown. Initially impressed, beautiful place but the unfriendly signs put us off. Keep off. Keep out. Don't touch. Keep off the grass (note there are outdoor tables there). Keep out of the garden. Don't touch me I'm fragile. We got our drinks and used the toilet which was clean but decided to move on without ordering meals. Get rid of the signs. They're unfriendly and off-putting. They made us leave. Coffee tasted good but was cold/lukewarm. Mulled wine is ok.

Amazing historic hotel in between Queenstown and Wanaka, as I walked in there was someone playing an old piano, fire place roaring, mulled wine being served, whisky options, hearty food and outdoor space with outside fire. Must stop by, of and there's a Tesla charger if you top to top up your ride.

Fantastic atmosphere- lovely decor. Staff were friendly and helpful particularly with dietary needs. A lovely place to relax with a drink and meal.

Worth a stop as you are passing through. They have rooms for staying here as well. It is a cool place check out.

Good food - battered cod, seafood chowder, and garlic bread were all good. Only downside was understaffed service and food taking 30mins to arrive.
