Have ate here a few times in the last year, and has been a lovely experience each time. The staff are super friendly and they offer solid unfussy pub food in a cozy setting. Pictured are the pie of the day and the calamari salad. Guinness is available on tap.

Pub grub is good, lots of beers to choose from and big screen TV to watch rugby, rugby league 👍 Customer service needs a bit of work. Could be more friendly and hospital - considering the money U spent in there over the bar

I have lived local for 2 years now and this was my first time going. Really good food - the shepards loaf was really good with the garlic butter, didn't realise how big it was so would recommend half for 2 people. The bangers and mash was one of the best ive had in a long time! the sausages were of good quality and the mash was buttery. Will definitely be back!

Very quite at lunch time. Lambshank was tender but they should have added some more spices and to make it tastier. Can be improved and I would like to go back and try it again. Other dishes were great The guy who served us was very friendly.

The Shepherds Arms Hotel has a delicious Sunday roast. With roasted lamb cooked with care and served with mint sauce, roasted potatoes and carrots. A few broccoli top off the dish. The vegetables were cooked perfectly and were crispy and crunchy. If you want to have a comfy traditional meal, this is a wonderful place to go. We always make a booking so there is a table available. The staff are attentive and friendly. It’s a great place to celebrate special occasions too.

Love this hotel with it's historic features in the accommodation with a little more modern in the bar. Stayed twice within the month making our way to the South Island and back. Close to the interisland ferry. Staff were fantastic. Chef was a little slow in delivering our meal, but overall would stay again.

Only for people able to negotiate stairs with suitcases. The room could be a lovely romantic room with some TLC. Old style light switches, pretty light shades, wooden accents, brass tapware, and two shower heads over the spa bath. Wardrobe, fan, heater, tea & coffee making area on the dressing table with its arched mirror. Milk pods in the under-bench fridge. Comfortable warm large bed. Red velvet curtains over the wide window in need of nets for privacy. Restaurant service is excellent, and the meal was well presented and well cooked. Parking available but on a first-come situation. Reasonably quiet and handy to city and motorway north.

I'm always really impressed with the staff, here. They seem genuinely interested in you, warm, friendly and engaging. A good menu and the roast lamb we both had this last time came with a decent chunk of meat and will cooked veges. And for me, a good range of beer with responsible staff warning me of the high alcohol content of my first choice.

An old pub with good value accommodation and reasonably tidy rooms. Good location for getting to other places and close to many good walks in the botanical gardens. Parking on site if you're quick or persevere.

Decent hotel room and good bar downstairs with pretty good food at a fair price. Rooms aren't big or flash but the price reflects it.

My new favourite spot to stay in Wellington! We stayed a few nights here while on a business trip in Wellington! The service was phenomenal and felt like the true kiwi service experience. We stayed for dinner in the pub, and the food servings were both delicious and generous. The rooms have such character which is refreshing from an otherwise sterile hotel-room. They were beautiful rooms, very clean....and so warm and cosy (we came in winter time!). I can only highly recommend for families or business travelers looking for a more personal experience.

Busy place, comfy atmosphere... but very noisy, we all had to raise our voices all night so we could make ourselves heard. I ordered 2 Pina Coladas, but was told they couldn't do it because they didn't have enough pineapple juice. My friend was not impressed, she had ordered Gin and Lemonade, and after a while ordered another one, but they ran out of Lemonade. Then after dinner she ordered a coffee, and was told they have turned off the coffee machine. We had a lovely main meals, and garlic butter with a warm loaf of bread.

Great place for a pub meal. Chicken Pie, mash & veg was excellent. Will definitely go back there.

Nothing special, typical pub grub but great service and wonderful Espresso Martinis and were happy to stop vodka to gin. Chef also met my meal request/alterations with flare.

Lovely place to hide out on a winters days or after a walk in the cold ~ very cosy. Reliable comfort food, fabulous pies (my favorite) fish&chips my partners favourite. Very roomy, not too noisey or cold. Good service, have always been welcoming, friendly & good at taking orders.

Very charming place to stay. Could use some improvements in the rooms as well as servicing them properly. The Bar is great awesome atmosphere. Super selection of beer's on tap and a tasty selection of meals and snacks. Will definitely stay again if ever back in Welington.

Excellent food and service in a very pleasant and spacious restuarant and bar. Located in the heart of Tinakori Village in Wellington and just a short walk from the Wellington Botanical Gardens. The food was delicious, wholesome and serve sizes were generous. The prices were very good, much lower than other restaurants in the area. Also very family friendly with a kids menu and activities. Lots of screens to watch sport etc and also a nice outdoor area. Highly recommend!!

This hotel has real potential. The room is charming with old light switches and other features. Our room had a canopy bed which was cool. However, the room is not well maintained at all. The canopy on the bed was falling off and we had to adjust it so it wouldn't fall in the middle of the night. Also, the canopy cover looked like it had never been cleaned. The toilet paper roll was falling out of the wall, the shower curtain was dirty with mildew, and a couple lights didn't work or were missing. Overall, the cleanliness wasn't great. With some small upgrades and care for cleanliness, this would be a charming place. The stars would be less if not for the cuteness and charm the place has. The pub next door has really good food and drinks. The location isn't bad with a couple restaurants and shops on the street and about a 20-30 minute walk downtown and to the waterfront.

Fairly quiet on Monday night. Just a few people dining in. But, always a great atmosphere, friendly staff, great selection of beers. This pub has a strong tradition.

Conveniently located to the centre of the city, the hotel has a classic British vibe to it. There are lots of quirky sheep-themed paintings on the walls. The rooms are slightly small, but elegant (and more than enough for one person). The staff are friendly. Amenities are plentiful, with a good (free) breakfast and a free laundromat. I was blown away by the place really, I thought the vibe was more British than Britain, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

We stayed here for two nights. Reception staff were friendly and helpful on arrival. Our room was comfortable with nice views and the onsite free parking is great for Wellington. The breakfast offering they put out in the morning is a nice touch and great for those on a budget. The room it’s self and bathroom could do with a really good deep clean. The wifi is very slow and when our room was serviced there were just new towels put on the unmade bed and one bin liner changed Not sure if this is the usual service as there was no guest book in our room.

Had a party here on Monday after my father's funeral. The staff were fantastic and the finger food was delicious. The atmosphere was fitting for the occasion as my dad really enjoyed it here. A huge thanks to the staff for making dad's send off memorable 😀😀😀

Good mince pie and chips. The pub is divided into 2 parts one for resturant diners and the other as a sports bar. Good atmosphere and beer nice. Service friendly and efficient. No complaints.

Not sure if I was lucky, but one evening I ordered a sirloin steak, with a perfect cut, tenderness, and juiciness. Perfectly cooked and served. Pork ribs are also good here. Seating is good, suitable for all types of crowds, including families with kids.

Got off to a rocky start, but warm and friendly service soon had it sorted. Not much variety in the menu, but still a great place for a meal and a drink.

Nice pub for a drink or dinner, great food and reasonably priced. Attracts a good crowd and a nice old timely pub feel. Rooms upstairs are basic but suitable for a few nights stay. Parking out back but don't hold your breath if you want to get one of the street.

Great service, good food, lovely setting. Big big thank you to our waitress, Karen who provided excellent service for our 21st party of x12 on Sunday 2.10.2016. Food flowed seamlessly from entrees to main to deserts with minimal waiting time. Always enjoy their menu, good variety to choose from, and they are flexible with dietary needs - some in our group do not eat onions. Prices are reasonable for their very filling portions, and their specials are an additional temptation. Thanks again to Karen who played a big part in making out outing stress free and enjoyable. One of our guests voiced an interest in returning as they liked the food and the pubs homey decor. Thanks again.

Always a favourite bar of mine. If you have a bit of luck you get to park in their own car park otherwise a small walk from the Botanical Gardens free parking area. Free nibbles most nights friendly and smart.

We had a great anniversary visit there. Will go again. Staff amazing, food delicious... best fish and chips I'd ever had.

Good low key property closer to the Wellington ferry terminal. Didn't realize it was a budget place when I was booking. Expected more, at least a fan of air conditioning. Keeping the window open all night is not my idea of ventilation when the room is road facing with cars whizzing by all night

We spent 2 nights here and had a most enjoyable time. Admittedly the decor is a little tired but it is clean and everything we could have wanted was supplied, from an electric blanket and large room heater down to a selection of toiletries. The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful and the food in the restaurant was out of this world! We would certainly stay here again.

Awesome place, excellent customer service, great pub and great food!! We stayed in the King suite room upstairs in the separate building, loved the old theme and history of it all! Greg and the other chap (didn't get his name) were very welcoming when we got there, free Wi-Fi in the pub and free parking! Our meal was delicious and not at all over-priced. Will definitely recommend it.

A bit tired and basic but you can't beat the location or price! We had a girls weekend to see WOW and it was close enough to walk (20 mins). I've never stayed above a pub before so it was a novelty - one night we heard drunken singing! Our character room had a double bed and a single which was fine. There were a few broken things in the room (lamps without shades etc). Bathroom had double showers for some reason! Everything was tidy and clean but a bit tired. The reason I give 4 stars is for the young staff, they were marvelous. So friendly and accommodating. One night we were shattered and so we had a pajama night in our room with Netflix. No worries at all, we just ordered from the menu and they brought it up. Breakfast was very basic, but fortunately I like muesli and fruit. Toast would have been a good option. There are a couple of good restaurants across the road. Cosa Nostra is a great Italian place. So the Hotel is just fine for a couple of nights and if you're quick, there is free parking out the back! Oh, and when we were leaving, the lovely middle aged Asian cleaning lady came rushing out with a feather pillow we had left behind - what great service! :-)

Nice cozy hotel located in a residential area of Wellington that's a bit of a walk from the city center but close to the cable car. I was told the structures are over 100 years old and I had a feeling my King Suite was haunted but that may just have been the spirits I met in the lovely downstairs bar.

Wonderful experience, delightful waitress, awesome service, great food, spectacular pate & nice wines and they had a very chilled Rosa, magic. So recommend if you have never been.

The Shepherds Arms has been a good place for me to stay in Wellington because its on a major bus route & because its so handy to Botanical Gardens. The bus picks you up & drops you off just up the road so there is no need to take a vehicle into the city. The hotel offers rooms with shared toilets & showers & the beds are comfortable & there is a basin in the room plus tea & coffee making facilities. The food available in the bar is very good as is the beer selection & the staff are very friendly.

Haven't stayed at the hotel, but the bar and restaurant is great. The current WOAP plate deal for a burger and a beer at $20 is probably the best deal in town (the beef, bacon and brie was fantastic). The fish and pie of the day are also great options outside of WOAP season. Decent place to watch the rugby and have seen a certain NBA star down there a few times casually watching the NZ Warriors.

Drinks list has many options that aren't available. Non-alcoholic drink offerings weren't vast. Food platters were pretty average. Wouldnt say it's worth the walk from the city.

Meal quality and variety has gone down, needed to rest steak before serving. Service was average

Room needed some mainteinance but overall value for room rate and a nice stay made by the staff friendliness, fantastic dinner and ease of booking.

After a long day working, followed by the prospect of large traffic jams, this was just the ticket, food and drink was good and the landlord sought out mobile chargers for both phones to allow us to keep in touch on the way home. Fantastic service!

The food in the restaurant was brilliantly presented, delicious and reasonably priced. The room was a 60s style set up however the bed was comfortable!

I usually do not eat thicker burger. But in this place, best thicker burger I ate in life.

Its a pub and has all thing pubs should have, great deck in summer, fireplace for winter, big enough to never feel crammed, food isn't flash so don't expect much.

Quaint little place. I loved that it was near the city and that the room was clean, neat and serviceable. The restaurant was great and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend it for anyone wanting a good place to stay in Wellington.

Went there when about to be stuck in traffic. Good food, good beer, good service, great landlord. Even out our phones on charge for us while we were there. Highly recommend.

It was ok,,,

(Translated) Restaurants / bar awesome, personally very kind. On the other hand anyone parks in the parking lot of the hotel. The street leading to the rooms is really very noisy. (Original) Restaurants/bar génial, personnellement très gentil. Par contre n'importe qui se gare dans le parking de l hôtel. La rue qui donne devant les chambres est vraiment très bruillante.
