Have visited Detour several times during my stay in Whakatane. Food, drinks and service are consistently fantastic, with the staff always friendly and great at what the do. Food is fab and the cocktail specials list puts the the cities to shame (Bailey's espresso martini for $12!!!). Still coming back here over and over, has failed to disappoint yet (and I really should have taken more photos 🤣).

We happened upon Detour for a meal back on 18 Jan when we were staying at Ohope for two nights. The food was incredible! The staff were attentive, the vibe was relaxed and we had a really wonderful night out as a result. Needless to say we were back there for dinner the following night by mutual (wordless) consent and again, we were not disappointed. If we lived locally we'd be dining here every week! Special shout-out to the rack of lamb and seafood linguine - both absolutely superb and the former perfectly cooked medium-rare right through to the last mouthful.

Nice food and friendly staff. Came in for dinner last night but we hadn't booked a table, friendly guy on front of house offered us a table even though they were very full. Ordered our meals but unfortunately the fries were stone cold, i don't usually complain about stuff like that but they were really cold. Asked for fresh fries and they bought them to our table very quickly and apologized. Both meals were delicious and good value. Friendly and attentive staff makes all the difference. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious food, very big portions so you'll have lunch for the next day. Excellent pricing for what you get. A good place to take a date or a nice place for a birthday dinner with the family. The atmosphere was excellent too.

First time there for four out of five of us. Amazing 🤩 food. The seafood chowder dishes were so nice. Our mains were just something else. Three 🥩 meals perfectly cooked, Tai chilly chicken was just spiced enough and so creamy, both, fish linguini and pasta. Dishes were soooo nice. We were trying all each others Kai. Thank you. The service is friendly and fast.

Amazing food very very good service will go back for meals again forsure and recomend to others. Offered a take home container for what we could not eat. Brillant evening out. Music was good not to loud and music you could hum along to.

Absolutely amazing food. Me and my family come here every few weekends and we are never disappointed! Such fresh good quality produce, especially their seafood! Portion sizes are massive and flavours are absolutely beautiful. Would recommend this place above all other restaurants in whakatane.

BEST place to dine in. Had a table of 8 adults and everyone left feeling satisfied and happy , Food was very very delicious and on point definitely worth the price you pay the meals were very nice portioned sized meals every bite was to die for.....The staff were all very friendly our waitress was very helpful. Would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone you will not be disappointed 😊 Compliments to the chef everything was cooked to perfection 💯

We left it late for dinner and found that most places in town had closed their kitchens, when we came across Detour. We were blown away by this bar/restaurant for firstly the fact their kitchen was actually still open but from there the service, wine selection, food options and friendliness. Our five star rating is so well deserved because the meals were fantastic the chicken fettuccine and fish of the day were fresh, flavoursome and fantastic value for money. Well done, can not recommend your bar enough. We will definitely eat here when in town.

What an awesome experience! Rolled in quite late, the staff were super welcoming and friendly, provided very good advice about my delicious and entertaining dinner. Thank you to Lucky our waitress for the night, your service was the best I’ve had in years, Thankyou for being so attentive to our large group, we really appreciated it. The Chef came down and personally said sorry for taking long to get our meals, but it wasn’t that long a wait!!!! Our meals were delicious and my whanau thoroughly enjoyed their meals/ night😊 Also I would like to thank anybody who was in Detour last night between 6:30 and 8:30pm the 18/09/20 you were all so lovely about our children running around causing havoc, no one complaint.. Came here as my teen boarder brought home some really nice left overs home. Anyway ordered Calamari which was over cooked and chewy, my rib meal stated it came with apple and walnut slaw, on arrival it was just red and white cabbage barely dressed, unsalted fries, when I asked on payment if the apple and slaw was out, the waitresses were confused one asked the on duty chef and he just shook his head. Apparently they were out. Of course room for improvement. Notify guests on missing ingredients and offer options rather than dry cabbage to fill the plate. Ribs were average you get about 5 with barely any sauce. Facility really nice.

Have rediscovered this place again. Amazing food and service. Love it. Best steak meals. Well done to the new owners and team. Keep up the fantastic mahi. Our new go-to.

We lunched here a few days ago..very impressed with new chef/owner i had surf n turf the seafoos was ver generous and steak well cooked just how i liked it... seafood included prawns scollops and myscles absolutely delicious..i thought the menu was a great and prices reasonable..cant wait to go back!!

What a fantastic night we had Last night on 4/03/20. I went there with my wife for dinner and it was very busy. We waited near to the counter for 10 minutes as it was busy but luckily, the head lady saw us and asked us with smile on her face to sit anywhere. We really liked our meals, Detour scotch and pork belly. The service was great and we got our food on time too. The food was delicious and the head lady was awesome👍. We will be back. Thank you.

Staff are really nice as is the dining atmosphere. However dont order a cocktail here, they are not worth the price they charge for them. Zero garnish presentation, tastes like amateur mixing and little alcohol in it for average price of 15 dollars. Food is good but desserts are wanting.

First time visiting this restaurant, very nice. The food was excellent good portions, happy hour between 5&6. Staff are trained very well making sure we were happy. I tried the pork belly and it was tasty, also the lamb skewers and cauliflower bites were something worth trying. Will come back and try again.

We went to this place for a dinner last night . Nice & clean place. We like the seating arrangements. It was busy but staff are trained very well for making sure we were happy. The lead waitress was very polite and calm as she was getting some complaints from customers even one customer was very rude to her but she handled that in good way. Both girls did a job👍

My husband and I went for lunch, the antipasro plate was heaven, easily enough for two with plenty of variety. Chef was good enough to share seafood sauce recipe with Me. Was so good was Cheeky enough to ask. Will definately go back next time we are in whakatane, dont miss this place peeps.
