From the very first phone call they could not do enough for us. Proactive and super helpful. Same when we arrived. We felt welcome and they were delightful to deal with. Food and service were excellent. Highly recommend.

Couldn't decide on a main so went for three "small plates" and the loaded fries between the two of us. Big pieces of incredibly tender calamari, delicious butter milk chicken and pork pieces, and amazing loaded fries. My husband had the chowder entree - also delicious, compliments to the chef! And a big thank you to Thomas - great service and personality which made the experience even better.

The people I was with had bangers and mash which they enjoyed. I unfortunaly chose the open BLT, this was on sour dough. For a main dinner it was very disappointing, 3 slices of tomato 2 slices of bacon, holumi, on one side, on the other a squurt of Aoli and a piece of lettuce, my plate was filled with chips. This is not what I thought a BLT was. Service was very slow, over an hour to get our meal.

Great food! I ordered the Nachos here and decided to get the large. Turns out it was a massive plate of them. I was really happy with the portion size of it. I would definitely recommend getting them. The staff is very friendly too.

Great place and a must visit for those who enjoy a tipple or two of the local nectar. It is primarily an ale house as suggested by the name, but there is a lager on tap as well called summit. Staff are very friendly and there is plenty of parking available for those just passing through.

Went for lunch. I ordered the crepes and my husband ordered the hoki. Crepes were delivered with a meal of lamb's fry and bacon. Waitress said she was sure he ordered the lamb's fry and bacon but I confirmed I had heard him order the hoki. Very apologetic and remedied very quickly. Hoki fries etc very good, crepes average wouldn't have again.

One of our favourite places to go for a meal. Wheelchair, pram and children friendly, outdoor seating is fenced off for children to run around, a playhouse under the tree offers a cool spot for summer playing. The food is delicious and good sized helpings. The coffees are pretty good too. Good variety of options for different food intolerances, they are happy to make small modifications to allow for this. Great place for groups, couples, families and solo diners.

Ale house is located in street corner and place itself was beautiful with autumn colours around 😀. Beers were good, IPA was real smooth. We tried garlic cheese bread, falafel burger and chicken burger, pasta, fries and nachos. They were good. Except chips didn’t taste fresh n crispy. And all of them were of good quantity for one person. Vegetarian food options are limited, discuss with the staff. Staff was very accommodating and considered our customisations request for the food. Only thing to keep in mind is , place is little pricey for food and you should visit here when you really have ample time to spend as service is little slow

We had a great dinner at Ashburton Speights tonight. A quiet Thursday but a lively waiter, beautiful mussels, steak, followed by custom made crumble with dairy free sorbet instead of custard and ice-cream. Big up's to Sandy (waiter) and the kitchen team.

Speights is one of my favourite places to eat. The food is consistently good across New Zealand, they have a wide range of meals to choose from and they are delicious and tasty. Great place for groups or families to dine out.

The problem for many restaurants is inconsistency and this is no exception. We ate here a few weeks ago and the food was really nice. Last night we ate there again and had a totally different experience. The food was pretty awful. I had a runny seafood chowder that had very little substance, almost no seafood in it. I had a Thai Chilli Beef Salad for mains and it had NO CHILLI Taste at all. My partner had chips , they were good but then his pork belly main was swimming in an under seasoned cider sauce. The pork was really overcooked and dry which was quite strange since we ate early in the evening. I think when you pay over $100 for a meal out, it should at least be tasty and good value. And staff, if you are going to ask the old " How are your meals ? " question, at least wait around for the answer.
