Reviews of alma
R.
Outstanding food and service! I was a bit skeptical at first and thought the portions might be too small however was very satisfied. The flavours are superb!
M.
Excellent food and service! Ordered a lot of food and all were beautiful! They are quite pricey but worth it - Pork pinchitos and courgette tostada were the highlight of the menu! And the oysters were really fresh!
D.
One of my favourite places in Auckland. Everything’s cooked over fire and that comes across in the style and flavours. Great for a casual dinner at the bar or a big bougie night out, can’t go past the anchovy toast or the pork “tacos”
;)

I liked Alma.
The oysters were well shucked but sooo salty. Not sure if that’s the type of oyster or whatever was served on top.. but perhaps some of the worst oysters I’ve had in a while - barely edible.
The rest of the meal was pretty good though. I enjoyed the crayfish - it was cooked well and had a nice flavour.
We ordered both the empanada and lamb chops which were both great. Perhaps the empanada was a bit on the small side considering we were told all dishes were designed to share, though.
I also really appreciate when restaurants provide bread, this is common in Europe and something I think NZ restaurants should do more often.

We had a truly fantastic dinner at this place. Our host Nina was knowledgeable friendly and very helpful. The outstanding dishes were the anchovies and the crayfish. A really fantastic and well set out venue we will be back!! A+++

One of the few restaurants that still serves food after 8pm on a Sunday. This is a Spanish-inspired restaurant. The food is actually good. Their jamon is amazing and the pork is very flavourful. Fish and dessert are okay.
Their service is somewhat okay. Our waitress didn't explain the food really well and a little dismissive and condescending when we asked about their food. The other waitress actually explained the food really well to the other table so we just listened to her and mostly researched on Google about their food.(Not much info available that's why I'm writing this.)
It would be great if they can add descriptions to their menu - also add headings and serving sizes.

Alma is an intimate dining venue in the heart of Britomart.
Open all day, the Spanish inspired menu celebrates in-season vegetables with the best of New Zealand meat and seafood.
Alma has made the most of the venue space that they have. There are intimate booths for 2 people alongside the front windows, or more social tables in the open space.
The chefs have done a great job at creating a Spanish-inspired menu with dishes that are made to share. Interestingly, the vegetable dishes seem to be served at room temperature/ slightly chilled.
My favourite menu item would be the Pork pinchitos - delicious.
The service is top notch. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable staff are always nearby to share their knowledge and create a great experience.
Overall, I am more than happy with Britomart's newest eatery. I look forward to becoming a regular.
D.
Spanish restaurant. Excellent food, wine and service. Amazing flavors and really well thought out dishes. Great Atmosphere. A real effort to ensure a wide range of lovely Spanish wine. Top notch experience.

Ordered octopus salad, mussels, anchovy, lamb chops. It was a innovative and fancy dining experience, 3 starter dishes are blowing my mind, would recommend anchovy one, looks normal but absolutely delicious. the lamb chop was just normal. And their Sourdough was soooo good.
The window seats and table can be a bit small to fit in.
J.
Creative and tasty food options. Mostly designed for sharing. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Menu was a little hard to understand. They set the pacing of the food well.

Alma: ⭐⭐⭐
We ate oysters, the mussel escabeche, the tostada, the tomatoes with pimeton butter, the rabbit empanada, the pork pinchitos and the chocolate dessert. Overall the food was good but a little underwhelming. The smaller portions allowed for a classic tapas vibe but the $$$ per plate was ultimately, not really worth it. Unlike Amano where you can order a pasta and be full, at Alma you do need to spend the $$ to get enough food. Highlight was the oysters, lowlight was probably the rabbit which lacked depth of flavour.
The gin list was impressive (and served in a pretty glass), and the wine delicious. The service was exceptional; knowledgeable, friendly, attentive and always smiling. The ambience is nice, not too loud and very aesthetic (but you are quite close to your neighbours).
Would return for a drink and an oyster.
J.
Pretty special this place..
The two tomato dishes were insanely good. And if someone else orders the lemon meringue, just order it too.. you won't get a look in!
P.
Fantastic place - food is excellent. Small portions, but so wonderful tasting you won't notice, and if you do, extra bread helps.
T.
Fantastic dining experience! We tried many dishes and all were well seasoned with perfect spice profiles. I am a chef and have my own restaurant and while we are currently blessed with a number of high quality eateries in NZ atm I can't say that for many. Staff were also excellent. A well thought out space with immaculate interior. Well done team! Can highly recommend.
k.
Great menu. Something for everyone and every situation. Flavours are amazing. Complex but not weird...just very delicious. Service was ideal. Attentive, helpful, very friendly and wanting you to enjoy the evening.
C.
Delicious raw fish and cocktails. Friendly and helpful front of house staff and waitress. Would recommend this place to anyone
J.
Enjoyed the food, particularly the crayfish and lamb dishes, as well as the decor. However cocktails and dessert were average and could be improved on.
R.
alma is impeccable! Curated drinks, favourite dishes and service with no pretense.
E.
Simply beautiful food all up. Each mouthful was an explosion of flavour - from cauliflower, hummus, anchovies & tomatoes, the scampi, lamb cutlets, sweet potato and chocolate dessert. Simple ingredients set to delicately surprise. Our first time eating there and we’ll be back - highly recommended!
L.
Alma surpassed expectations on every level. The food was beautifully presented, succulent and packed with flavour. The cocktails were divine. Four of us shared a meal on a Monday night for a special occasion and all left happy. The staff were knowledgeable, kind and attentive. Definitely recommend.
P.
Honestly the best restaurant in New Zealand, food is amazing so as the service
K.
If you're looking for a meal that stands out agains the others, try Alma. We had a few entrees to share, and then a main each. Everything was a taste sensation! The anchovy and tomato tostadas are a stand-out - don't let the anchovies put you off (and you can still remove them even if they do put you off). I was a little skeptical about pepitas on my fish main, but the combination of flavours was absolutely superb and I finished every last bite even though I was feeling quite full about half-way through! My partner enjoyed his lamb too. Loving those smoky flavours! Our waitress was absolutely lovely as well. Really impressed and will definitely return.
S.
Great food and service, and very knowledgeable re catering for food allergies and intolerances (including coeliac).
B.
Walked in off the street with seven year old grandson. Very busy, but they found us seating and were very friendly and attentive. Beautiful meal followed, based on staff recommended dishes. Would thoroughly urge you to try it.

This place have the same atmosphere as Amano. Same owner maybe. Great service and wine selection.

12/10 - Absolutely amazing. Great atmosphere. Food was soooo good. Such a great array of flavours packed into every dish! Staff were awesome, attentive and knowledgeable.
H.
I stopped in for a light lunch and had the anchovies on toast, delicious and the lemon meringue dessert which I have to say was the best dessert I have had in a long time. Service was excellent and I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
E.
not a step wrong! alma is a wonderful restaurant to dine at for something a lil’ special! :~)
our waitress knew the menu by heart, and explained it so well! we tried anchovies for the first time per her recommendation, and loved them. i wish i’d asked for her name as she deserves our praise. the staff are all lovely, especially the maître d' who made us so welcome. the service is to a standard where you feel taken care of, but not overwhelmed, which is ideal!!
some reviewers have critiqued Alma’s menu as an inauthentic spin on spanish/andalusian cuisine, however, i’d suggest if you dine here and are happily open-minded, you’ll enjoy what you experience.
the interior is beautiful!! the open kitchen is fascinating. i especially love the array of treats and preserves arranged on the counter for purchase.
try and get a seat in the glass conservatory area, where you can people watch. it is a charming little spot for two.
A.
Excellent. Drinks were perfect and the staff are friendly and helpful.
J.
I've never been to Southern Spain so couldn't comment on the authenticity of the flavours. Food (corn tostadas, blue warehou with chermoula, chicken, potato and onion, courgette) was flavourful with a good variety of items on the menu in a beautiful restaurant and open kitchen setting.
There is complimentary sourdough bread but food portions are small for the price of each item so don't come here if you are looking for value for money as you will leave disappointed.
G.
A great experience. 4 persons enjoyed immensly. Waiter Jells I think. Tall gentleman was superb and reccomended a taste delight.
Recommend 5 stars out of 5.
S.

h.
Fantastic experience with food and service. If I had an option I would give it 6 out if 5! The siviche, lamb, oysters, salad, eggplant, jambon were superb. Definitely a place to go again
L.
Amazing food! Amazing service! They went the extra mile in catering for gluten free options - and the food truly delicious. Will definitely be back!
T.
Very authentic food and wine. The staff was chatty and lovely. Will definitely recommend to friends and come back again.
D.
I foubd the food portion sizes small. Ordered the scampi disapointing and lacked flavour. Very expensive.
The service was good and overall the food was ok but the final bill did nit reflect what we had eaten.
G.
Brilliant food and service. Highlights were the lamb chops, the hummus, the anchovy and tomato tostada, and the kumara. Delicious!
R.

We were looking for coffee and cake in the area one lazy afternoon around 4pm and ended up at this clean, quiet place.
Flat white's is ordinary but the burnt cheesecake is creamy and superb!
Friendly staff is always a plus!
P.S. Spend $50 at any of Britomart's 65+ participating businesses and get 2 hours' free parking.

Not much surprise here.
It looks good, but unfortunately it tastes numb, so I don’t want to come again.
