Reviews of Baklawa Cafe (Shefco)
B.
What a find! Authentic Mediterranean Arabic cuisine, as you eat you will notice the difference in quality of the ingredients & the effort + the love & care behind the cooking. we were two couples who dined in for the buffet. we tried almost all of their lovely dishes, cannot fault any one of them. Also would like to add that they practice good hygiene & the staff was very courteous , flexible & patient though we turned up late
Perfect for families, special occasions or just a quick eat out
E.
Best Middle Eastern food buffet in New Zealand! Highly recommend.
R.
What an amazing find this place was lastnight!!
4 of us went for dinner and ordered the Lamb Mashawi with lebanese rice as the side, Chicken on Rice, and the Mixed Mashawi. We also also ordered Falafel and Hummus - All sides and mains came with so much pita bread we couldnt finish it all! The portions were huge, the quality and taste was amazing and the falafel is the best I have ever had.
From the outside/the decor, it seems a very lowkey place, but there is nothing lowkey about the food!!!
Only downside was waiting about 45-50 mins for the food, but not a major issue at all :)
A.
Came here again after a year. Great group sharing food.
Service was ok, could be a bit better at following Covid-19 protocols. One of the servers didn't wear a mask while serving customers, I didn't ask because they could be exempt. However, I am upset they didn't ask for our covid passes at all, even after asking the server if they would check it, she said she'll come back to scan it and never did.
Customer service could be a bit better and restaurant could be a little cleaner as well. But, they seem to be understaffed and there's only one person managing the till and taking orders.
C.
Great filling food Lebanon ting yummy yes
But service could've been better for example the waitress person girl was nice but they're were no menus only 1 big phat one on the wall so if you forget your glasses good luck lol
Great food tho
M.
Visited them with my friend to full fill the craving of some Mediterranean food. So, we decided to have something from their dinner menu but unfortunately it was not available at that time. Their dinner menu is available after 5PM i think. Then we decided to have something from their Lebanese breakfast (Mana'ish Lamb), Barbican lemon flavour and Baklava (one from all different options available). Baklava was super delicious loved all of them. Mana'ish Lamb was good and Barbican was also good. They serve halal. Thank you.
M.
Offers great food for reasonably good prices. Great middle eastern style sweets, sometimes the flower water is too much but most of the times everything is just about right.
They are always busy so sometimes expect delays in serving your orders. They are in a very convenient location as well reachable from anywhere in Auckland
R.
My first experience of Lebanese cuisine for dinner and I thought it was amazing!!! Took my dad and brother here for dinner on a week night and were absolutely stuffed to capacity. I had been wanting to go here for years and will certainly be going here for more dinners and checking out the store. I bought some baklava to take home for my dad and I and it was quite tasty.
L.
This place was a lucky find. Delicious food and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be coming back to try the rest of the menu!
K.
Great Food
Great service
Great pricing
S.
Nice Lebanese restaurant. You will like it once you've got the taste.
Try Baba Ganouge..
R.
Friday night buffet $20 for as much as you can eat. Reasonable selection of courses - not including the sweets. Need to pay for baklava separate at $40 per kg
v.
This was sooooooooooo good. I was craving some middle eastern sweets and a couple office friends took me to this place... it was a wonderful experience... the baklava was soooooo authentic.... love the place. Would definitely recommend...
n.
Good to be here
Nice restaurant
Plenty of sitting 🪑 space
Must try one time
Must try = tabuleh salad 🥗
Mint tea 🍵
Falafel 🧆
Vegetarian 🌱 are welcomed here.👍
S.
Awesome spread of baklavas, with authentic lebanese flavours. The turkish coffee was right on point. Ambience was normal. They have buffet also, which closes at 8.30 pm. But we had gone to devour the baklavas and enjoyed them thoroughly.
B.
Shefco is a place to go if you are after good flavours and want bang for your buck, plus carbo-loading every so often doesn’t hurt.
Almost everything on the menu comes with huge flatbreads that will definitely not leave you hungry.
Standout was the Baba Ghanoush. You could get away with spending under $20 for 2 people and have leftovers for another meal 🤪
Of course..if you come to Shefco though, you simply must grab some of the Baklava for dessert, even if it’s to-go.
M.
Wonderful place, delicious food and very good service.
Very happy.
And will go back there again and again.
😊😊😊
M.
Ordered on phone so that food is ready by the time we arrive. Tasty middle eastern food
K.
Massive portions, delicious food, great service. A new favourite 😊
R.
Great service, though wish all the dishes on the menu were available
A.
Customer service can be hit or miss but their baklava is pretty good. Lots of variety to choose from - either picked direct from the trays which they're cooked on, or their pre-packed options which suitable for small treats or large events. Parking can often be at a premium if there is a large family dining in, who have come in multiple cars or if they're quite busy. Breakfast and hot drinks are very good (and Halal) too.
S.
Excellent food...
The pita is fresh and the dips are delicious.
As for the Baklava....it is divine
However ....the service is a bit slow...they are polite but take a long time ages to serve you
E.
Amazing experience, really enjoyed the food and good to see all cultures dining together.
M.
Greate Lebanese food with friendly staff. Kebab was very tender and baklava was amazing.
P.
Love this Cafe.. often go there to get their sweet treats...Baklava 😋
C.
Delicious baklava. Huge trays of sweet Lebanese food looked amazing. Couldn't resist so had to take some home.
D.
Just had buffet dinner for the first time
Best cooked items were of chicken. I don't know the name of dishes. Stuffed chicken brest and one more chicken dish look like grilled plus slow cooked.
Salad was so so not extra ordinary or anything to compliment at
You guys to improve the meat diahes which were of not good taste. Probably new cook for meat manue.
Sweet diahes were of disappointment for me. It was like eating sugar. Come on it was baklawa and one salmonella sweet full of sugar. While eating i fet like eating sugar only shoukd have tast as well but NOP
And It's winter need hot drinks instead of cold one. Arabic QUAVA is cheap, economical and tasty as well.
Can improve anterior with decor, plain white wall don't appeal.
No water at table :(
My first experience of Arabic buffet and it was not WOW but so so :(
Yes cold drinks were included for free which is good.
No naan only cold pita bread Imagin my shock
$25 per person is a good deal for buffet but need something special or at least good in it in order to get the customer visit again at least twice.
I don't think I will visit again for this buffet
No wonder why it's once a week
No hard feelings but need more improvement if you want to run on daily basis.
Yes customer service was good. Place was spacious and comfy. Had high chair for kids.
You got good place and attract a lot of customers if do something different and tasty.
J.
Good and reasonably priced Lebanese food.
The Lebanese coffee is one of the best coffees that you can have in Auckland.
Worth visiting.
W.
Lebaneseee food we had a nice breakfast but the portions are small
c.
Visited around 3.30 today with my husband. I was looking at the menu and after I decided what I wanted to order I looked up and two young ladies looked busy. One was making coffe and the other performing her other duties. Eventually a young lady asked “ do you want to order?” I said yes if I can order the following items. She then preceded to tell me the kitchen is closed until 5.... I started looking at the menu at other items because this is my first time. I then said “can I please order this” and she said “ the kitchen is closed”. I said “ so what can I order please?” and she said “only coffee.” I said “ ok thank you” and we left. I would like to say this is one of the worst customer service interactions I’ve ever experienced. First off in NZ we are known for hospitable and friendly service. When you greet a customer you say “ hello how are you today” it’s not hard and also a smile is free. If you are busy it’s not hard to say “ excuse me Ma’am I’ll be right with you in a moment” or something to that affect. Also instead of the customer asking all the questions and making out I’m the idiot, it would be polite to say “ hello just to let you know our kitchen is closed until 5pm which means the only thing you can order at the moment would be coffee”.... you see and even if I haven’t ordered anything I would of been appreciative of the communication. In hospitality you must be friendly and accommodating I’m not asking for the red carpet treatment. A smile and greeting is sufficient. I didn’t even receive a smile or hello, I would suggest you train your staff on some common decency and Manners.
Visited again because I really wanted to try the Baklawa and the customer service was a lot better, the young lady explained everything in good detail and was friendly. The baklawa is mouth watering delicious it's easy to get carried away without realizing you've eaten the box.
Have changed my rating to account for our latest experience thank you.
C.
The place was very very packed today for brunch. But the food was amazing like always.. I would really recommend the Big Breakfast for anyone who cannot decide..
M.
Good middle eastern breakfast, quality and tasty food. Their Baklawa was yummy. Staff was ok. Parking could be tricky during Sunday mornings.
r.
Current Review:
Glad that the owners noted the feedback rapidly and made the necessary changes. Thank you.
Previous review:
As a sweet shop and restaurant, people buy takeaways, and customers expect a bag for their takeaways. People buy baklawa boxes and often give it as gifts and you don't provide a bag. Not free of cost, not even for a dollar or even more. I needed a bag to carry the box. Seriously disappointed and annoyed. Never coming back again!!
J.
Baklawas here are to die for. Very recommended! Staff is super nice and kind.
H.
Nice arabic food and cookies and baklava!
C.
Authentic Lebanese food (confirmed by my Lebanese friends and the fact that we were probably the only non-Mideastern people in this very busy restaurant. The wait during lunch hours on weekends can be very trying, but the food is fantastic.
D.
I have eaten several times at the cafe. The foul is not what it used to be as the quality has dropped a little. I like the cuisine so I have given an average rating otherwise it would be lower.
C.
Definitely one of the best places for real delicious middle eastern cuisine 👌
K.
fabulous food & friendly helpful staff. Nice airy space to chill and catch up. Sweet prices too we stuffed our faces for $16 each! Mixed box of baklava only $20 it was incredible...started eating in the car... 😂 go there now
Z.
Good spot for breakfast, best Baklawa in Auckland and its Halal as a bonus.
E.
Authentic Lebanese food.Well behaved staff and tasty cuisine..!!
v.
The food tastes quite good. The pricing is great too. The staff is very friendly:)
Y.
Amazing Lebanese food!!! We were desperate to find a Lebanese restaurant, and after 2 years of search, we are not disappointed! All the food is amazing, the desserts are fresh and the cookies are amazing! They have buffet a few nights a week, and wow it was so yummy...
R.
Good and delicious middle eastern food and sweets.
H.
Great place for breakfast/brunch. Really nice middle eastern vibe and a good variety of sweets as well.
K.
Really good food was on a buffet Friday. They do have a friendly and welcoming atmosphere however, I feel like they could do better on the service
I.
Excellent spot for breakfast for me and hubby! Honestly hate the wait and how loud the place can get with so many crowded people but love coming here. And oh my the Bakhlava 😊😁
R.
A famous Lebanese and Mediterranean cuisine restaurant. Specialties are the delicious Baklava sweets. The dine in space is decent and can be busy at times. The parking on site is limited though; it is complimented by on street parking nearby. The food is good and preparation standards are well maintained. Well recommended.
D.
Outstanding food and service. Just back from a month in the Middle East and this restaurant has food on par with the best from our trip. Friday night buffet worth every dollar. Will go back mid-week for some falafel and hummus!
C.
The Middle Eastern buffet and the Baklawa are delicious. Good price and great hospitality.
You should try it at least once.
N.
Omg the baklawa is delicious! So is the Lebanese coffee. These two pair perfectly for a perfect afternoon snack!
S.
My favorite restaurant for Arabic breakfast, they do have buffet every Wednesday I think
O.
Friday night buffet is a great experience. They vary their menu weekly but you can expect to find a good variety of salads along with lamb, chicken and vegetarian options. Price wise is also affordable and quite reasonable making it great value for money.
The rest of the weekend we visit for desserts. The baklava is just superb.
T.
The food was so yummy but i didn't like the Waiters 👎
A.
The buffet is really awesome I would rate it 10/10.Everything from the salads to the appetizers and mains was truly delicious and worth it.I really enjoyed trying it out.The place is a bit small so you have to book in advance.
I would rate it 3 stars as the service at the counter needs to be improved. I was disappointed by the salesman at the sweet counter as he did not know much about kunafeh and I bought the semolina based kunafeh although I was looking for the katayif made recipie.I hope the salesman at the counter knew what he was selling so I wouldnt have wasted money on the kunafeh and he would have clarified to me what it was before I would have bought.
R.
The plates were quite small for a buffet. The juice were not refilled. There was no heating in the outside sitting.
F.
Good selection of food and baklava. Unfortunately poor customer service by the indian lady at the counter. I hope you smile to your customers and will be more genuinely kind.
M.
The prices are good, a nice and quiet place, friendly staff. I bought from this shop about three times. One time, the cake was not really fresh, so it may worth confirming the baking time with them before buying cakes. However I found the staff honest and very friendly.
A.
I like the baklava, those are petita bite size doesn't make me headache of sugar yumm
l.
My mom its Lebanese and I do approve this restaurant .
E.
A hidden gem, went there on the Saturday morning before the lockdown.
Food was great, the mana'ish cheese (calzone looking one) was very tasty... Melted cheese inside soft fluffy Lebanese bread, something simple yet very satisfying.
Their falafels were good too, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It is the best falafel I have ever tried. The dipping sauce is nice too, instead of having sauces like yogurt or garlic aioli the falafels were served with tahini, that was a very tasty combination.
Their baba ghanoush was very tasty too; smoky, creamy and a little tangy. And the Lebanese bread and pickles came with the breakfast were the perfect match for it
Will be back to try other food they offer after the lockdown.
R.
Yum! Simple yummy food. Affordable family dinner without the fuss
D.
Wonderful Lebanese food, and a great selection of middle eastern desserts! Lovely stuff. I grew up on Lebanese food and I can definitely vouch for the grub here.
J.
All the food was excellent.
A.
Food is unique. Must try their middle eastern breakfast menu. I have tried most of them n liked all . Big breakfast , humas , foul dish . Fresh baklava is mouth watering. Highly recommended.
Y.
Three words - Yum, Yum and Yum! One of my faves. Good to have traditional middle Eastern food so close to the city.
T.
Nice place with good Lebanese and Middle Eastern food. I would recommend the Lebanese pizzas for a hearty and delicious breakfast. The grills there leave something to be desired. All in All, good.
R.
Bought some baklawa and they were really good! Nice staff too
J.
Best Berry Almond Tart I've had, ever. Yummy food choices, good coffee. Nice & spacious inside.
B.
We found this place through Google map's recomendations, drove all the way to Mt Ruskill and were disappointed.
We have tried way better baklavas in different places in Auckland.
Sweets are over killed and are too sweet to eat. We got different types of their sweets and they were all over sweet.
Sweets were not fresh as we expected.
To be honest, not a winner at all.
T.
Baklava cafe is a nice and quiet eatery. Ambience is soothing and food quality is good.
R.
The place to go for Arabic sweets. They also run a cafe and eat in place. The variety of sweets are excellent. The sweets are pricey but they is expected if the main ingredients are nuts. If you have a sweet tooth and haven’t tried Arabic sweets then this is the place to go.
S.
An amazing assortment of baklawas ( Baklava is a rich, sweet dessert pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with sugar syrup. It is characteristic of the cuisines of the broader Middle East, This desert is not for the sweet faint hearted.
A.
I like their sweet Baklawa only. I think being Indian food taste buds, I was not able to like the middle eastern taste. It is obviously not spicy or sour. However, if you put Humus and some chutney, it become better.
Z.
The food was good, place was clean , plates were warm, did a good job with their buffet menu, but parking is a major issue with a jealous neighboring restaurant threatening to tow away although not being their carpark
H.
Seems to be popular. Especially on Fri...one needs to book.
Good variety of dishes to choose from buffet. Very impressed with the helpfulness of staff.
M.
Best big breakfast in Auckland.
h.
My favourite place for breakfast 👌🏻👌🏻
s.
Good food for reasonable price, enough space for 10 - 15 families. Moderate time for serving. Clean and tasty food
R.
Good taste, nice ambiance but little bit expensive, actually it deserve as they only offer original recipes.
F.
Food was Devine but waited an hour for it to be served.... no pictures was way too hungry
P.
Best Lebanese style food I have had since moving to NZ!! Thank you!
D.
Very delicious and hygiene food,
If really want to enjoy meat or chicken then go for dinner...not much items in breakfast and lunch...
Zaatar bread is my favourite....must try
O.
Was great to have traditional arabic food away from home. Loved everything we tried
M.
Amazing food, the baba ganoush and pastries were highlights but it was all awesome
H.
The cafe/restaurant has a Middle Eastern vibe. The decor features lots of faux marble and stone finishes. You go there for the food not the decor. The Mana'ish lamb and Mana'ish cheese closed are amazing (served up to 3pm). For the price it's unbelievable. Foul medammas is a good veggie option too. Try the Lebanese coffee if you like cardamon/nutmeg esk flavours. Oh yeah, obviously they have Baklawa too. As I don't really eat these too often I can't comment on them. The savoury food is delicious though.
s.
Great place and vibe, love the friday $20 buffet, and amazing sweets to boot. Could use some better seating as its a bit hard to eat a meal while basically sitting on a couch but hey it was amazing food anyways.
K.
It was good service, delicious food 👌😌
A.
Very nice place and terrific food. The breakfast options are amazing and the wait time is shorter than expected. Fantastic place to eat at would recommend.
J.
Nice Lebanese food, worth trying🙌🏻
E.
It was good, the customer service was improved a bit, the quality & quantity very good need a bigger tables so you can feel comfortable when you sit & eat
P.
I purchased a box of Baklawa to gift to my friend and he really liked it. All items fresh and good.
C.
Best place to enjoy fantastic Arabic food
D.
The food is nice - but the service lacking.
Not enough staff...one person to do everything.
A.
Loved it!!! Good customer service and food was beyond gourmet!
H.
Awesome lebanese buffet! $20 is a bargain for this amazing food. Utilities are a litle sparse, but the best food places are always hidden, enjoy!
D.
Outstanding food and service. Just back from a month in the Middle East and this restaurant has food on par with the best from our trip. Friday night buffet worth every dollar. Will go back mid-week for some falafel and hummus!
A.
So delicious, could take some time to get the order but definitely worth the wait 😁
R.
Delicious food. Lovely staff. Heaps of room
D.

Great food
A.
Very nice place and terrific food. The breakfast options are amazing and the wait time is shorter than expected. Fantastic place to eat at would recommend.
F.
Known for their traditional bhaklavas. Could be better if they would serve proper traditional Lebanese food for a complete experience which is not available in Auckland at the moment.
Y.
My son took us here and ordered for us and it was absolutely yummy. Lots of food and flavours for lunch, thank you.
D.
Good food, not great. There was nothing wrong with the service, but there was no particular effort made either. I don’t need to go again.
S.
They have one of the best Middle-Eastern cuisine! The lady was lovely and suggested me good baklavas.
S.
I tried Baklawa sweets and they were the best. Will have other stuff next time.
S.
Nice Lebanese food at very reasonable price.
A.
So delicious, could take some time to get the order but definitely worth the wait 😁
R.
Foul secret recipe is my favorite! Amazing food and reasonable price. Definitely a go to place for brunch!!!
K.
The food was really good. The price is good compared to the portion of food. However, serving the food was a bit slow unfortunately.
S.
Their breakfast is good. Have been there several time. Will try their buffet oneday although not many option available om their buffet.
A.
One of the best lebanese.. Sweets have not tasted anything like this before. A permanent added item. In my list of favorites...
