R.Dined at Basalt on 6/3/22. We were welcomed by a lovely young lady ,Grace. She was very attentive and accommodating from the time we arrived at the restaurant. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. We will definitely dine here again. Nothing was a problem for Grace…. she answered all our questions and was very polite and humble. Grace definitely is an asset to your restaurant. Thank you so much🌺
#.It’s an ok place - either side of the restaurant was quite noisy which made it difficult to talk to people across from me.
Either than that food was good (quite pricy and portions weren’t the best), staff were friendly and cocktails were interesting !
B.Basalt is part of Joylab so you are able to get 10% back with each purchase which is quite nice. It was quite busy when we were there but we were able to get a table when we walked in.
Stopped by for dinner and wasn't too hungry so we shared a pizza and two sides. The meat lovers pizza was quite nice with lots of meat and flavour. The onion rings were nice although we did get a large pack of rings at the bottom which wasn't cooked in the middle. The pork belly was delicious. The tender belly was lightly battered and fried so it was crispy. The sauce was quite nice and made the belly more flavourful.
They have a special on most days. We happened to be there on Thursday so we got $10 pizza which is a steal. The pasta party on Monday and carnivore club Tuesdays also look good. Worth a trip down for a tasty meal.
M.I came here last night with my friend for her birthday. They have $15 pasta specials on mondays and $10 pizza's on thursdays. Honestly so worth $10! The atmosphere was relaxed and warm. We had a beautiful waitress named Amani who checked on us and genuinely helped me choose from their four desserts. Would dine here again!
S.Had a lovely dinner at Basalt this evening! I have quite complex dietary requirements however was helped every step of the way by our waiter Grace - she was so helpful, clear and went out of her way to double check additional details. Will definately be visiting again.

S.I personally really like Basalt and always enjoy their $10 Thursday pizzas, ordering steak as well beer from the tap.
I have had to downgrade my score because my wife who is a vegetarian cannot trust this place anymore. This is due to her ordering a vegetarian pizza on several occasions only for it to be mixed with meat. I am sorry but this is extremely clumsy and it is such a shame that many restaurants in Auckland could not care less about vegetarians. Basalt are obviously not doing it on purpose but it is still very disappointing.
Overall, while I think the food is great and service phenomenal, the mixing of meats is something that instantly turns me away from any restaurant. It can actually be dangerous for someone with certain food allergies.
A.Howick's local favourite and it lives up to its great reviews. We had a party of 6 and the restaurant was busy so it took a while to get our mains out. The presentation and tastes were good. The surprise was definitely the dessert! One of the richest chocolate dessert I've ever tasted! It was more chocolate fudge than tort as it says on the menu. Very satisfied as we walked out the door. The waiting staff were good, kept refilling our water. Will definitely be back!

Nice flavour profiles of the food, the garden bar up the top has great air flow and is really pleasant in the summer heat. Coffee was great too and the staff are friendly with a bit of witty banter. Would recommend and would come here again, thanks guys

We have the $10 pizza, excellent value for money. A couple of side dishes and they all came out at the same time. Our waitress Grace was very friendly and attentive. Such a beautiful smile as well.
M.We were in for the Friday Bottomless Cheeseburger special. Ali was assigned to take care of us which was cool but she mislead us by saying the Espresso Martini was included when we asked clearly, what drinks we could order from. It was our first time trying an Espresso Martini so she said she could make an exception to change to bubbles if we didn’t like it, which was the case. Yet, we were charged extra for them in the end because it was ‘the nights special’. And even after questioning it at the counter (she had gone by then) there was no budge.
I usually wouldn’t bother with a review if I felt like I’d rate it 3 stars or less, but tonight, instead of walking away with another subpar episode, one person shone through and changed our minds so we were compelled to wave her down again and grab her name.
Grace.
Her hospitality was genuine and really made a difference to our dining experience. The burgers and bubbles were great! But the service was a little less than mediocre, regardless of the full house of punters. We feel she went out of her way to see that we were okay between the orders/ long waits even though she was busy with her section. She alone is worth the extra 2 stars so that Basalt wasn’t a complete write off for us.
Thank you Grace, you’re a star.

張.The stone grill is so cool and so hot. My friends traveled Auckland and wanted to try famous stone grill so I recommended basalt and we had a great dinner here. We ordered mix meat stone grill and I like beef the most. Next time I will order steak! The service is also great.

P.Always have a good meal there. Couldn't finish breakfast taco's due to generous portion which is a good thing. Staff were fab this morning as well. They let us come in even though they didn't for another 5 minutes.
B.My husband and I went there for his birthday dinner. The food was just delicious! I had the salmon and prawn risotto and it was perfect. Hannah our waitress was great. I cannot compliment her enough. It was an all round wonderful evening.

M.A bit of a disappointing experience overall. Unfortunately the steak I ordered came out overcooked and with too many chips. Could be improved if thicker cuts of meat were sourced for service. The waitresses attending the table were friendly, and attentive.

K.Excellent service from Zalia - not only did we tell her we had just fifteen minutes to order, eat and go, but that one of us was celiac too and needed a gluten free meal. She was so good- drinks appeared in less than three minutes and our delicious food came out just a few minutes behind that! And I never caught her without a smile. An asset to the Basalt team!
J.Basalt is one of the fine town locals of Howick. Great dining for lunch and dinner in a contemporary setting. The real gem of Basalt is the upstairs garden bar. With a great view of the ocean and the surrounding town it's perfect for a chill glass on wine. Weekend nights get pretty crowded and a little more lively if that's your scene.

D.We sat at the roof top and ordered our drinks and dinner from the bar upstairs - really easy and the staff were great. Food came out quickly - we loved the pork belly bites, onion rings and drinks. The beef burger was not that nice and I probably wouldn't purchase that again but everyone else loved their mains - they had the cordon bleu, ravioli and pork belly dishes. Crème brulee needed to be torched a bit more but it had a good flavour!

R.The outdoor area upstairs is a nice space for a group on a hot day. We found the food to be a bit overpriced. A bowl of chips were $9.50! Also a bit unimpressed with the fact they have a surcharge for credit card purchases. Apparently this didn't use to be a thing so not sure why it was introduced.

A.We went to the rooftop for lunch, and were really disappointed in the service - we had to go downstairs to find someone to order. I had the cauliflower bowl which was vegan and really nice, however there weren't many other vegan options and they did not have an option for dairy free cheese on the pizza. Our friends had steak which was overcooked.

D.On a cold and windy night. The crew decided to go too the local watering hole basalt for some light beverages when we met the lovey Tyla that told us about the bottomless dumplings night. Which we accepted. Amazing food and even better beverages. Great service from the team especially Tyla. Would highly recommend. A+

K.This is a bar style restaurant with a lovely more restaurant style feel seating area in the back, and the bar area at the front. Our waitress on Monday night was friendly and helpful, thank you to her. We LOVED the karaage chicken, wish we had ordered more of that! We both ordered pork belly as a main, it was good for the gastropub style restaurant, however, don't feel the need to order it again. Would definitely be back for the karaage chicken!!!

D.One night me and a few of my fellow brethren headed up to the local watering hole for a delicious serving of their Thursday night bottomless dumplings. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a very warm welcome from their staff, more noticeably our waitress (Tyla) who was our server and a delightful one at that. The food was delicious and very prompt and beverages were always refilled without us having to nag and call out like some other places I’ve experienced in the past. Overall, it was a pleasant night and enjoyed by all. Thank you once again to our waitress Tyla for accomodating us and making the night that more enjoyable. Will definitely be back in the near future.

l.Had a work function here recently. Never been but was well aware of the place. We were catered for and we all agreed the food was very tasty and of very good quality. Service was great and overall a well run bar with a good vibe. Recommended!

J.Love going to Basalt, had a technical issue with the EFTPOS machine where it timed out and charged me twice. The staff member who I mentioned it to was quick to action and super good about it. I don't know the young lady's name but she really went above and beyond for me. It was really appreciated!

T.We have had drinks here a few times because of the nice rooftop garden bar. This Tuesday we ordered a nicely priced ($25 for Monteiths) pitcher of beer that unfortunately ended up being fairly flat. For food, we had the prawn and pork dumplings, which were quite big but the filling had dried out a bit. Nice flavour in the dunplings but would have loved them to be nice and juicy inside. The meatballs had a yummy thick and flavourful sauce and the bread was nice. The actual meatballs were fine. The best dish was the fish and chips - super fluffy yet crispy batter, a nice serving of chips and a simple salad that all worked well together. Overall it's a fine place to eat and relax but the food doesn't stand out as exceptional. I would go again for the views to the water and location on the main drag.

P.I went here with my family. The menu provided a wide variety of different foods to eat. Personally, I do not eat any unhealthy foods, and this restaurant provided a large number of options for people like me. I got the Prawn and Ginger dumplings and a side of steamed seasonal vegetables. The food took quite a while to come out, but when it did it was very yummy and I would definitely go back again.

M.Love the dragon babies on the menu, just this time my karaage chicken was a bit overcooked but other than that everything was really good. Bbq sauce in the ribs needs a bit of tangyness because its too sweet. We waited a bit longer for our Drinks, but it's a bit fair since they have other big table to attend too. Overall experience is really great.

But the food leaves a lot to be desired - over priced for what is served on your plate.
Four in our party - steak was cooked well, the fries were nice, but the portions for the price were small.
Kingfish Ceviche - the fish did not appear to be fresh.
Bruschetta - not bruschetta as would have been expected - maybe there should be a disclaimer that the Bruschetta is Basalts interpretation. There were very few tomatoes, a LOT of rocket and the bread was not toasted.
Garlic Bread - WHAT!!??? That's NOT garlic bread
Chicken Skewers - unseasoned chicken - perhaps it needed some salad with it. $16.90 for 2 skewers of chicken and some fries.
Smoked Chicken salad - Tasted better - I'm sure that was not smoked chicken.
Overall, the eating experience was bland.

a.It's ok.its not bad it's just ok. It's quite expensive and has a average selection of food. If you like chips then you are in the right place as there are a lot of meals that come with chips. Menu is varied and tries to cater for all tastes so most of the food is ok, not outstanding just ok.
