An unassuming spot that's got so much more going for it than meets the eye from the outside. This is a place my brother would have loved to visit as the chef he was, because whilst they don't offer a lot of variety, they've mastered what they have. Bone marrow on toasted bread was good, potato skins perfect, pork hock great, and snapper sliders taking the cake. They've got a raw bar and what looks to be a good hand at making cocktails too. Very chic food to atmosphere in their own way I'd say. Oh, and I actually loved the metal water cups which is rare for me, but they kept it so cold on this hot day.

Great food and atmosphere. It's not your typical eatery (it's quite small compared to other restaurants) but packed with food that's full of flavours. Always a bliss to dine here. Try their pork hock, lamb ribs and wedges. If you're here for some fresh seafood, go and have a look at their seafood bar. You're in luck if they have Te Kouma oysters in stock, they're amazing.

Love the seafood there, tuatua and two types of oyster which includes Bay of Plenty Oyster and Coromandel Oyster. All the vegetables dish integrate new ideas into it, very impressive. Worth a try!

Had lunch here today. Love the vibe. Friendly staff. The Russell oysters, fish sliders and the brisket were so delicious. Also had the clams, the clams were yum but the coriander sauce needed a little something extra and the potato skins was ok. Will definitely be back to try their other dishes.

Quite popular venue, a venue for business meeting or casual visits. Friendly staffs. We are from AU, just walked in and still able to get seated. Amazed by the variety of the menu. Ordered Grilled sourdough flat bread; oyster and clams (very fresh); Kingfish sashimi, Pork hock (potato mesh on the side was also yummy).

Depot is my favourite restaurant in Auckland. The lamb ribs are amazing and the oysters are always well shucked, I never get bits of shell. I also think Depot is reasonably cheap considering the high standard of food.

Very tasty food here. Will definitely come back. The pork hock is big in potion, it has a very crispy skin and the meat is very tender, a must try for meat lovers. The bone marrow is something I’ve heard about for a long time, but first time to try it today. It matches so well with the toasted sourdough. The marrow has just the right amount saltiness in it . The fragments bursts in your mouth without the any greasy taste in it. Really enjoy the meal today.

This is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Auckland. The staff are amazing. Always a smile on their face and they look after you. We had the Grilled flounder with coconut sauce which was magic. The lamb ribs are always are go to with the fish sliders. We have to order them when we are here because again so flavorful and amazing. For dessert it’s always the sugar pie (which I got takeaway this time) and decided to have the Pecan Pie from Fed Street Deli which was exceptional as always.

My first time visiting here. Big recomend on fish. It was very balanced meal. Salty fish, sweet eggplant and grilled bread. Worth to try grilled lettuce with ranch sauce. But. Oyster was just okay. Vinegraitte was too shallot-ish. I could taste too much shallot.

Had some oyster, lamb ribs, octopus and fish sliders - oysters and lamb ribs being the most memorable! We couldn’t eat so much and the waitress offered just one fish slider (instead of 3) which luckily we asked for it! It’s pretty good I thought. Came here late afternoon and there were plenty of tables. From food, service to ambience, couldn’t fault anything at all. The only one thing I found to be rather odd is wine by tap is served with water glasses rather than wine glasses. Wouldn’t mind another visit if I’m in town again!

It has been hard getting a table before COVID... And now, though still busy, but NO wait time... I do like the super chilled atmosphere and shared plates~ Right from the super thin pita bread with pumpkin puree, to the super refreshing kingfish sashimi with pear; the crisp & tender lamb ribs with 3mm of fat but they are flavourful; in comparison, the steak can be a little chewy and blunt... Cheese lovers😋, the grilled cheese should be named Melted cheese dip, such a guilty pleasure~ Finally, the fresh baked cookie is the classic western style dessert, warm, crunchy, soft, topped with chocolate coated vanilla ice cream😱 a little bit too sweet for me though....

Oysters are insanely good and cold, fish-sliders and desserts never disappoint and the vibes are immaculate. However, they could improve their vegetarian options as I didn't enjoy my plate of iceberg lettuce with mayo nearly as much. Overall a good experience, just don't come here if you're vegetarian..

Great food and amazing service from the team at Depot. Make sure you ask for the *secret menu* to order the Greener Placebo mocktail — mint, cucumber and non-alcoholic gin. Easily the best mocktail I’ve ever had!

Super unique restaurant conveniently located in the downtown area near sky tower. Offering up some fantastic seafood and land based dishes. To start, the complimentary hummus and pita really hits the spot with an aesthetically pleasing start. Pita perfectly soft, thin but pillowy. Next up came a half dozen oysters two of each type on offer that day. Small but juicy and easy to differentiate between the different species. Super fresh, light amount of lemon juice pairs perfectly well. Then came the half size bone marrow which was perfect for one person. Crunchy toasted French baguette with the creamy perfectly roasted marrow was a match made in heaven. Perfectly dressed with a nice tartness, the coriander salad in the corner was the perfect counterbalance. The main dish was the clam with a pizza pita underneath. Loved the fresh clams that were each large, plump and juicy. The braising liquid was the perfect dressing. To top it all off, the staff was super friendly, quick, paying at the counter was a breeze.

Love this place. Oysters are average but you have to try their fish dish and the lamb. It’s so delicious.

You can never go wrong at Depot. Not a huge menu but every dish is DELICIOUS! Second time i've been there in less than a week, no regrets ;) Go, you won't be disappointed.

Decided to eat here for the Bluff Bay Oysters that are now in season. Definitely worth eating here and trying different things that are not normally found on menus - popcorn duck tongue or bone marrow. Atmosphere had a great vibe & very hip. Waiter was very knowledgeable & with his recommendations on amount required for 3 people.

Wow what a treat, this is a perfect example of modern NZ cuisine! We tried a wide range of the dishes and were extremely satisfied with everything. THE Kiwi restaurant of NZ. Where does Gordon Ramsey go when he wants a taste of NZ? Depot. Where do Auckland Foodies go for a cosmopolitan but rustic, Kiwi-as night out with their out-of-town friends? Depot. Depot, every bloody time. Why? Because it's always down-to-earth, 1st class food. The original wine-on-tap place. The original raw bar. The original (and still one of the best) Kiwi small sharing plate place. There are classics on the menu from the 1st day it opened, there are staff who will surprise you with dishes after you explain your tastes, there are new dishes that push the boundaries of what "simple but excellent" food can look like. Not a place for the hearing impaired. This place is LOUD and buzzing. But they're amazing. Put your name on the list, pop out to a local bar for a cocktail, and come back for a great night of food and drink. Love it.

Food:(4/5) The Tua Tua was so fresh and tasted delicious with the sauce. The snapper slider was always my favourite. Crispy and soft burger bun, tender snapper fillet and the mayo matched each other so well. But this time the mayo was a bit salty and sour compared to previous taste. The pork hock’s skin was too hard this time maybe because of the longer deep fried time. The lamb ribs were so good but a bit too greasy. The duck fat side dish I won’t recommend because of the lack of flavour and too oily. And the yoghurt on the top just didn’t go well with the dish. Service:(5/5)

Man, was this place delicious. An awesome selection of fresh seafood including oysters and clams, wonderful whitebait fritters and maybe the best pork shank I’ve ever had. Just delicious. They also have a great selection of NZ craft beers including low alcohol options. A simply lovely experience.

Great feel, excellent service, and very tasty fresh food. The fish sliders are one dish they are known for and that's justified. Soft fish, toasted bun with loads of sause and some fresh greens. The potato skins are also excellent and they are a good size. The oysters were among the best that I've had. Amazingly fresh and supple with a killer vinager sause. Definitely one of the best in Auckland! They are a bit pricey but it's totally worth it just for their freshness in the ingredients that are made out of local NZ meats & produces. The lamb ribs and crispy pork hock are simply amazing. Oysters are really overpriced, but if you have not time to visit the different oyster farms in those different parts of nz, then oysters in the Depot are equally fresh! They don't take reservations now, but if you go at off-peak days & hours you might find no queue to wait at all.

I have been in Auckland for almost a week now and I pass by this place daily to find that its packed so todY I decided to get in and the lovely staff was welcoming and quickly found me a table for one. From the starters, I took one of each clam and oysters to try them ordered half a portion of lamb ribs and one fish slider and boy they were so delicious. The lamb was the best I have ever tasted. I am definitely coming back tomorrow to try something else before my flight back home. keep it up guys.

A great place to eat fresh New Zealand oysters and diamonds! Super fresh and quality seafood. Potato skin is delicious, super crisp! The cheese melts on it. The beef tongue is very delicate and melts in the mouth. The iceberg wedges are crisp and sweet.

On our first night in Auckland we decided to have dinner here. You know it’s going to be good because you’re put on a waiting list because of the high number of people wanting to dine here. We started off with the charcuterie board which was amazing (the duck tounge popcorn are to die for) and we also tried some fresh oysters 👏🏻 We continued with the venison cheeks served on a bed of creamy polenta and we also tried smoked fish on toast. The food is amazing and fresh. They serve sharing portions which I liked very much as you can try different dishes. The staff is very helpful and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Lastly do not forget to have dessert 🍮 We went with the sugar pie 🥧 which is to die for. If you’re going to be in Auckland make sure to go here. Surely you won’t be disappointed 😊🙏🏻

We knew this would be good when we had to wait an hour for a table. As it happens, we got in within 30 minutes. And we are glad we waited. The food was excellent. As was the service. A lively and vibrant restaurant bar, expect to queie up as they do not take reservation. I wouldn't call it an oyster bar as they only supply one kind of oyster and can only have it natural. But it serves other food and they are delicious too.

Shellfish are fresh and creamy. But seats are small and very uncomfortable. Customer service needs to be proved. Overall is good but overrated.

Voted as a TOP eatery in eatery several years in a row. My standard order here is lamb ribs, hapuka sliders and oysters at the minimum. The red wine on tap is good too. Located right outside the Auckland sky tower - this is a great place to indulge in a late Friday lunch. You need reservations for dinner most days.

The place was very busy on a Saturday night. I was here about 10pm and was lucky to get the last table. The bone marrow seems to be the popular dish people pick so we picked one too. I wasn't impressed by it much, probably because it tasted fat to me. Perhaps it would be good for those who like bone marrow. The potato skins were excellent. Crispy and hot and with the additional flavour of the lovely cheese. Really good. I ordered a passion fruit mojito. They don't have a cocktail menu so it might be difficult for those who don't know what to drink. Service was ok. The waiters were too busy and we were always told to wait when trying to order. So on average 1 out of 3 waiters u called really responded. The food took some time to come too.

Oysters were *large* and fresh, tasting different from those Rock Oysters in Sydney. My favourite was the clams they called Tuatua. Great shellfish though a little bit pricy.

This shop ~ location is very easy to find, just on the edge of the sky tower, very convenient to recognize, raw oysters are very fresh, lamb chops are a bit fat, taste good, like ~

I went with my daughter for dinner. It’s a small but very cool restaurant with casual ambience. As the name suggests we ordered the oysters and we had a feast! They were the right size and super fresh. Then we shared the crisp “freedom farms” pork hock with apple and horseradish and salsa verde. The pork was really crispy and tasty, the meat was carved from the bone and very tender and moist. Loved the horseradish mash. The three ingredients complemented each other. We also shared the Greg’s courgette flowers with Persian feta and Pinole pine nuts. The flowers were almost a tempura which combined which combined with the fried slices of courgette, feta and pine nuts making this dish amazing delicious! I don’t advise the sugar pie though which is considered a speciality. Too much sugar and it’s texture was not that creamy. The restaurant doesn’t accept table reservations and like most New Zealand’s restaurants the wine is too expensive! I would definitely recommend this restaurant!

Came here on our only day in Auckland, the wait was about 30-45mins at around 7pm. You can leave a number for them to call so you don't need to wait there. We got the best seat in the house, right in front of the kitchen. Watching the kitchen staff work is like witnessing something short of a miracle, an orchestra of food creation carefully planned and executed in a chaotic rhythm. The food is excellent and being able to watch it all happen definitely adds to the experience, 5 Stars all around!

Very good restaurant. Food portion is rather small but with good quality and fair price.

If your an early-to-rise person in downtown on the weekends, finding a quality restaurant (with full bar) can be a challenge! Thankfully, we stumbled onto the depot and came back the following day as well! The breakfast sandwich may be their only brekky food, but it is sensational! Enjoy with a Bloody Mary (Thank you Lane) or a custom mocha coffee (Thank you Dillon). The vibe is very relaxed and comfortable! Just a friendly neighborhood cafe with great staff, food and beverage.

Absolutely fantastic dining experience. However the manager/person at the desk wasn't too friendly - seemed annoyed at the split bill between two and just seemed like she wanted us to just pay and go and rolled eyes and stormed to pack our food when we wanted takeaway. despite what it says on their website / online, they don’t actually let you get takeaway food. got rudely sent away when I asked about it. Their food is still really good though which is why they have 3 stars - they should really be consistent with their position on takeaways.

The waiting staff do a great job of helping you choose from the menu; my recommendation is to let them know of anything you particularly can't have and then let them feed you an assortment from the menu of plates to share until you have had enough. Very popular and hence busy and they don't take bookings but the food service is fast and the tables turn over quickly so even if you haven't booked the wait is not usually too long.

One good thing that comes with Covid is the fact that you can now go and enjoy Depot quite easily. That's the place where you feel the difference between a great shared dish and one that is perfectly prepared, balanced with flavours and cooked. Great spot to eat and have a few drinks in Auckland. The open kitchen is amazing to watch and the food is some of the best we have ever had. We started with the snapper sliders which where super good. Never had snapper before but now the bar is set high after having the sliders. Next we had the lamb ribs. They were so tender and the meat literally fell of the bone. The seasoning was sensational. Best part of our meal I think. Then we had the pork hock. This was good as well. Really tender and seasoned to perfection. The sauce on top is really good and adds some good taste to it. For dessert we had the sugar pie. Super good and not too sweet. Would go back here again and try more of the options next time we are in Auckland.

Depot definitely lives up to the hype. Their oysters are fresh and tasty. Everyone should try their lamb racks as they are full of flavours and melt-in-your-mouth kind of tender. Well worth the visit; will definitely be back. Thank you!

Eaten here a few times but no photos to show for it :( The staff are personable with a sense of humour. Food is amazing! Some stand outs - - Ox tongue: soft and tender, balanced perfectly by copious amounts of mustard goop (not sure what to call this accompaniment but I love its fluffy texture). - Brisket: a sticky, melt-in-your-mouth delight. So good we ordered 2 plates in one sitting. - Oysters are... well, oysters. And they serve raw tuatua clams - grisly, pleasant mouthfuls of the ocean. - At one stage they had a slow cooked lamb dish - also delightful. - Kingfish sashimi: chunks of fresh, soft pink flesh which worked well with the tart apple slivers. Not sure how I feel about wine served in tumblers. I’m more of a wine in rounded glass girl, but I won’t hold this against Depot.

We had a great experience. Sat at kitchen bar, was great to see how professional the kitchen was run. Great food is an understatement it was amazing. Thanks for the great night.

Excellent food. Allegedly, the place is owned by more than six years by the same owner and it has not stopped to be packed ever since. We had several options from the menu and they were all pretty delicious. I loved the industrial interior design. Must go place when in Auckland.

We dined (5 of us) at the depot last night, 28/6/2020, our waiter got the drinks order wrong as he memorised the order. We duly ordered our food including the Charcuterie dish and the tua tuas among other dishes. Our waiter's memory let him down again as neither of these arrived. 2 of our party are vegetarians and there was very little available for them. Overall the service was good and the highlight was the raw oysters.

We chose to sit at the 'Kitchen' bar. The oysters were amazing, as was the marrow. The octopus was well seasoned but rubbery. I've travelled all over the world and feel that the wine pours are miserly for what you pay. I've had wine next door at Masu and the pours are more generous there. Otherwise, great atmosphere, and service is good.

If you're like me, and you can't decide on what to eat, this is a perfect place for small dishes to share with friends. We got 5 small dishes to share and it was the perfect amount of food to get us full enough and not be uncomfortably full. The lamb is a must get! Nancy was our server and she was absolutely wonderful, gave us great advice on more places to eat, and made the experience that much better.

Had a wonderful light meal here enjoying the oysters and kingi sashimi along with a glass of Chardonnay. Great service and big shout out to Dillon who gave made it especially memorable too.

Busy place and you have to wait awhile because they dont take bookings but you can go for a drink or look around sky city and they will call you when your turn is up. They bring you out a course at a time so your able to enjoy each dish. The clams are bigger than I usually get out and the bone marrow was neck level. staff were all friendly and are able to make good suggestions on what to order. The bathroom is nice to. My wife spent half the dinner watching the oyster shaka in awe. The snapper sliders are a must!!!

Well worth a visit. This cosy eatery specialises in oysters and the food is sensational. One of our favourite spots to go on a night out in the city. Beware, they don’t take bookings and it is very popular so best to arrive well before you want to eat and put your name on the list and then grab a drink somewhere nearby.

I love this place. If there’s one restaurant I will always say yes to it’s depot. The food is just amazing (evidently I’m lacking culinary vocabulary here)! Every dish on the menu is carefully curated and leaves me wanting to come back for more. Recent favourites include the burrata and the bone marrow. Classic favourites include would have to be the fish sliders and the skillet cookie (although it wasn’t on the menu last time we went). The service can be a little inconsistent, last time I encountered a female staff member who came off rather cold and indifferent to whoever she was serving. I would say she was blatantly rude to me at one point but 99% of the time the wait staff have gone above and beyond with their service and it’s always a joy to converse with them. It’s worth the wait if you get put off the wait list and while I wouldn’t recommend the place for a quiet date I think it’s worth yelling across the table to be heard for the quality of their food.

Great food and selection of wine. Cool fitout and relaxed vibe. Service was a bit hit and miss though (overall friendly, however abruptly ushered out to take a name and told wait for a table would be an hour, ended up being 20 minutes, also incorrect order delivered to table).

Went on a weekday night at 18.30ish and place was already buzzing. Started off with the wood roasted bone marrow which was divine. Followed up with a pork hock which is one the best I’ve ever had and there was enough decadent crackling to share between a table of 6. Also shared some oysters which were also very good. Just took a couple of spoons from my friends’ desserts, and the sugar pie was excellent. Honestly, I could not fault any of the food offering. Added to the buzzing atmosphere makes this place a winner.

There's usually a wait for a table, but it's a great chance to try out the bars in the area and catch up with people before dinner!

We turned up around 6pm and they were busy - almost full. We were seated immediately and served in very quick time. We opted for 3 dishes including the meat board, the pork and some fish tortillas. The meats were great especially the pork. The fish was a bit dry so I don't recommend that but overall this place is top shelf.

Loved this place so much, my wife and I ate here two nights during our stay in Auckland. We highly recommend sitting at the chef's counter. You can see all the dishes being prepared making it the menu come to life. We stayed at the SkyCity Hotel and this place was one of the first things that caught our eye and had us intrigued. Cannot wait to go back. Too bad it is a 16 hour flight away.

Amazing food and services. The Orongo Bay oysters were so sweet and fresh, I slurped it up in one go. The meat literally falls off the bone - lamb rib. It was so soft. I love the Squid Ink Linguine, just the right amount. Perfectly seasoned. I love this place. If you are still hungry, give yourself some Fergus Bone Marrow, simply melts in your mouth.

This is our regular stop when we come to Auckland. The surrounds are upmarket with the interior a lovely rustic affair. Eating/ dining is on a first in first served basis. The service has never disappointed, staff are friendly, knowledgable, attentive and unobtrusive. Their shellfish are amazing as is the selection of plates. Our favorites are the sliders. A very wide selection of wines / beers both imported and local. My other half tried the cider which was a very nice drop. It can get a wee bit loud but you go to a place like this for atmosphere and that atmosphere is busy and full of life. We will be back !

A few of us from work came in for dinner and wine, the atmosphere and the service is second only to the food. We had our meals explained to us by the man himself. Even though it was a winter night and we were outside we were warm and comfortable and had the best time!

I'm sure it's good for dinner but breakfast you only get 3 choices. No actual menu so don't know prices till end - worked out at about 12 dollars for a coffee and egg/bacon bap which isn't too bad. Staff seem rushed off their feet so understandably not particularly personable. This place is best for if you need to be in and out really fast I guess. So if that's what you're after I would recommend it as the food is priced only slightly higher than fast food and the quality is much much better than you'd get at a franchise place. If I didn't feel rushed and there was an actual menu I'd give an extra star. Not sure I'd go back considering Federal Delicatessen is right next door and heaps better.

I can't say enough about Depot. It's an Al Brown restaurant and the food shows it with inventive, delicious menu items that are top notch. I've been going for years, and Depot consistently wows. The atmosphere is casual and buzzy, and the service is top notch. You can't book a table, and sometimes there is a long wait, but it's worth it every time. It's been my go-to restaurant for years now and it never fails to impress. Absolutely fantastic, and truly deserving of five stars.

I have only come once for dinner, but we got just about the best experience you could ever hope for when you go out. Incredible hospitality. We got lucky with kitchen bar seats. Food inspired by some of the world's best chefs (Massimo, Fergus, etc.) and the vibe is spot on. Bonus- if you love the experience like we did, and collect biographical books on restaurants / recipe books, you should get their Depot book at the front. You're welcome ahead of time.

The place has a really cool decor, and even though they are busy, they will quickly find a table for you. We had fig toasties, which were a whirlwind of delicious flavors, beef brisket tortillas, soft and juicy, and grilled kumara, which I couldn't get enough of. Located in the midst of the buzzing SkyCity restaurant precinct, which is one of the best spots for high quality food and drinks in the city. Stopped in after walking around for an hour trying to find a spot worthy of my money. This place hit the nail on the head. The ambience is bright yet relaxed. The service was prompt, thoughtful, and not overdone. Joe and his team were very attentive and helped me find a meal that was varied and appropriately sized. The menu is well crafted and fresh. Each item that I got had a perfectly complex flavor profile. Top to bottom, this was a perfect dining experience.

Food was excellent. Pork Hock and potato skins mmmmmmmmm I'd recommend them to anyone. Lunch service was ok. Friendly, competent staff, and we had no wait for a seat (on a Tuesday). We were waiting quite a while for the main.

We went for lunch on a Friday. They don't take reservations, and the place gets filled up. So be prepared to wait a while before you get a table. Luckily for us, there was a table available. We ordered, the Kingfish belly and Lamb ribs. Both were very nice and I would rate this among the best casual dining experiences in Auckland.

My experience of Auckland is one of excellent oysters and passable other foods. However, Depot has excellent oysters and clams and also equally enjoyable cooked options. The service style is similar to tapas and sharing is expected / encouraged. The staff are also very knowledgable about their wines and foods and in particular the raw choices. Of the cooked options I genuinely enjoyed the bone marrow, even though it’s a fatty dish it pairs very well with a number of white wines and adds much needed filler to a meal of oysters and clams. This is one of the few locations in Auckland to be added to my map of places to return.

Premium ingredients perfectly cooked and excellent service in a nice ambiance - what more can you ask for? Plum trifle for dessert was the weakest dish we had - didn't like the lemon creme very much. Apart from that - absolutely no complaints.

Had a wonderful experience tonight at Depot. Food had an Asian twist to it, in small portions but enough to share around. Oysters was a great start. We ordered multiple dishes after and desserts is a must have.

She said she'll get the table prepped for us and to wait outside but then a waitress gave the table away to someone else. Went inside again and the hostess didn't seem to remember us and anything about that table. We got a table outside after that; too bad we were not dressed warmly enough. So not a great experience overall; wouldn't come back

Great experience. The staff are really excellent here. Food was all very good. Nothing life changing, but definitely solid and would return again soon. Wine list is pretty straight down the line. Could do with a couple of weird options for the curious punter. Highly recommended.

Another gem right smack in the middle of the city. Always a bustling place. Try their oyster bar which always has the freshest and best oysters in the season. You won't be disappointed. This combined with their friendly staff and a great location, this easily makes this place one of the best in Auckland.

Lovely friendly staff. Gorgeous warm interior on an otherwise rainy day. Great selection of gluten and lactose free and vegan options too. Great other cafes you can walk through to as well. Nice selections of cheese etc. Would definitely stop by again. Organic shop opposite as well which gave a good range of supplies if you're doing a road trip. Place would easily fit 30+ friends:)

Depot was disappointing. We went out for a girls night and did a lot of waiting. Luckily we had a lot to catch up on because we waited for over an hour before we let the staff know we hadn't received any of our food, including the oysters. Our docket was lost and none of the staff seemed to notice that others were getting seated and receiving food before us. They did not seem as apologetic as they should and merely offered us an average dessert for our inconvenience. After commenting about our unhappiness, they decided to take the oysters off the bill. I'm unsure if anything like this has happened in the past there, but they were very unequipped to deal with their mistakes and made me feel bad about updating them on the situation. Please learn your lesson and handle things like this a bit better in the future.

Great environment anytime, but in particular mornings for a great brunch. One of if not the best place for Tua Tua and Diamond clams in the country with an extensive list of cocktails and wine. Make sure to the charcuterie board, hapuka fish sliders, cumen lamb short ribs and also the skirt steak!

The tapas are to die for and are perfect for sharing. We also indulged in a cheeky bottle (or two) of Merlot which was fantastic. The oysters are second to none and the atmosphere and ambiance is just fantastic. Sitting outside with a little blanket over your lap is the perfect setting to enjoy time with my wife.

For the price, this has to be my favourite place to eat in Auckland. The food is amazing (and I don't say that lightly), and the restaurant has a great atmosphere, with a good selection of beers and wine. You may have to join the wait to get a seat, but you won't be disappointed!

Just wanted to write a quick review to congratulate the fantastic bar staff and manager on some customer service done right. My girlfriend and I stopped at the depot to have a couple of drinks and a bite to eat after doing our Xmas shopping. After a while the waiter came and told us that the food order had been missed and apologised for the delay. My partner asked to speak to the manager who was very friendly and apologetic, and insisted on taking the food off the bill and offered a free desert each (which we graciously declined). It was nice to have the staff at depot admit a mistake had been made and then did their best to rectify the situation, it made all the difference to our experience and we would happily come back again!

We were lucky that when we arrived a table was free outside. They left our name on the waiting list but when it came up it was somewhat noisy inside so they brought us food outside. Quite pricey restaurant but you are also paying for the location. They were more than happy to change the plates so there were 4 to a plate so we could have one each of the items we chose.

Great place to go pretty much any time of the day. Nice breakfast choices. Great lunch. Excellent and fresh dinner options. You usually can’t go wrong with Depot. For groups, they don’t take bookings.

Their oysters were definitely fresh, although a bit pricey. Waited for around an hour for our group to be seated. Reservation is recommended especially during lunch and dinner time.

Depot is probably my favourite restaurant in Auckland. Well worth a visit. Nice atmosphere and staff, plus exceptional food. Make sure you get a few oysters while you are there.

Delicious food - we ordered the skirt steak and burrata, and very friendly service. The only drawback is ask seats are barstool height and not too comfortable.

Had lunch here on 3/2/16 with my sister. They were very busy but they still managed to seat us immediately - the waiter was excellent with very good knowledge and a friendly manner. The food was all excellent and considering they were full, the service was quick and pricing was very fair. Great experience.

Good food, excellent sugar pie, however the service can be a bit hit and miss at busy times of year and despite going pretty regularly I was a bit put out by having to leave my credit card or license at the counter while we ate. Probably a side effect of the busy tourist season during December/January.

Im not bery big on seafood nor eat any raw seafood but my husband absolutely loves this place. Everyone we've taken here loves their raw bar and their Oysters. Theres plenty of other foods to choose from on the menu. Overall experience is great. We go to this place quite often. What tops it for me is the friendly service. Thats why even though i dont eat Oysters we still go back because they are super friendly

It's a bar with great food. Good drinks range with an added bonus of a good Japanese whiskey. The place gets filled up quickly so be early or prepared to wait for a table (and even then you may be out of luck!)

Food was absolutely terrific. The oysters were delicious and fresh, and the lamb ribs were incredibly flavorful. In such a great location with fairly cheap prices and food that good, this place is fantastic.

We have been here a few times, we find the menu extremely meat heavy, and the dishes are quite fatty. Unfortunately the pork dish we ordered arrived 35 minutes after all of our other dishes.

This is a cool place to dine with your friends or to enjoy decent food by yourself. If you don't have a big group, I'd suggest you to sit at the kitchen bar. You may enjoy the symphony of the cooking when you are eating. The conductor to the kitchen is a guy called Blake, I think. All food there are prepared with fresh ingredient and all dishes are well managed to have good quality. They are many special dishes you may try there. For me? I'd like the freshly wood oven baked port leg, duck, and bone marrow. If you are a gourmet eater and you have never been there, you should give yourself a treat there, at least once.

Very popular cafe with a cool industrial vibe. Food menu will be a bit too avant garde for some but quality is up there. Renowned for a great bacon and egg breakfast roll and the turbot sliders go down well at lunch.

Depot is always a fantastic experience, atmosphere and great food. Highly recommend the hapuka fish sliders, and the skirt steak with onion crisps, iceberg wedge and THE MOST delicious habanero mustard. 10/10

I'd say the street corn is one of their best. or try the Pulled or slow cooked pork with apple slaw. It's always pretty busy but I have been lucky enough to get a table without booking on the occasions I've been for lunch or a late dinner.

Another amazing visit to Depot, great food and amazing atmosphere, staffs are very friendly and helpful, but the food is the star, don't miss out the fresh Tua Tua clams, fish sliders, lamb ribs and potato skins. Before you go, order yourself a Sugar Pie.

Honestly loved it. Went in and had no idea what to expect but the staff talked me through it and what they suggested was the perfect amount. I had the turbot and is was beautiful. I would highly recommend. Not the cheapest but defintely worth the price.

Had a coffee here with a work colleague. It was a great trendy place but an overall oily feeling permeated everything. The staff were nice and friendly and the coffee was OK. Not great and not bad. Probably wouldn't go back if I didn't have to.

Great food in laid back ambiance. Why the chef will only cook steak medium rare is beyond me - off putting attitude. But still very good restaurant.

Best oyster joint in town, the consistency over the years never fails to amaze me. Also make sure you get a slice of you sugar pie, it's absolute bliss.

In the shadow of the Sky Tower, Depot is a great spot to eat in Auckland CBD. Friendly servers are happy to explain the daily changing menu. Some of the freshest, simply tastes food we will find.

In A Nutshell: -Mates, when walking up to Depot it was sooo packed! -After waiting an hour, we were seated all the back looking into the kitchen. -Interesting to see how the food was prepared & the high-tension among staff involved. -The menu has many great choices & I think we covered most of the eye catching items (minus the pork hock, which seemed like a favorite). -I loved the bone marrow, sucked all the marrow/juice & ate the cartilage. -They were out of Kahawai fish, but subbed in New Zealand Kingfish belly which was EXCELLENT. -The NZ Meat Board was also delicious, especially the deep-fried pig's head croquettes. -The bottle of Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect pairing for the NZ clams & oysters. Overall, I recommend probably not sitting in the back towards the kitchen, took away from the ambience & food a little bc of the tension involved.

The most entertaining Auckland restaurant to present New Zealand oysters. The variety of local oysters is without parallel. Served with mixed vinegars in an informal and friendly way. Depot is tge epitome of Brown's famed easy style and truly unfussy service. An emblem of Auckland's current food style. You'll always feel uber welcomed. You'll also adore this exceptional venue's cozy informality. I always go early. You will adore Depot. It's a beaut!

A long wait to be served after waiting for the table. Not possible to reserve a table so having waited for 15 minutes and then watching others eating who came in after us was very annoying since our order had not even been taken. A bit chaotic and overly rated compared to other places.

Bland service but excellent food, and we were sat immediately despite a large lunch crowd. Oysters, sashimi, and the heirloom tomato dish were all excellent.

I go there often for breakfast and the bacon and egg doona (duna? douna? whatever...) is amazing. Or just get it with bacon. Also had lunch a few times and the food is excellent. Awesome flavour throughout. Can get very busy so don't expect a private conversation at lunch you might be sharing a table with someone.

Having been away from Auckland for 5 years we visited recently and its still as good as ever! One of Auckland's only really great eatery's.

Quality produce and great service but the flavour combinations lack the creativity to qualify for a fourth star given the pricing and the target they're asking to appeal to. Good venue for groups and couples.

The Depot IS New Zealand cuisine. The epitomisation of who we are as a people, and of how we socialise, how we live. Comfortable, homely, unpretentious food in a casual almost bach-like setting, but with flavours worthy of a Michelin star or two. Most of the menu is designed to share, to be eaten with hands, picked at, devoured, indulged in. Haven't been? Go there. Been before? Go again. Depot is home.

Al Brown does it again! After a week of dining in different Auckland establishments, my favourite of all the places I tried was The Depot. We arrived on a warm Saturday afternoon to find the place packed to the rafters ~ with something you dont often see in Auckland... a queue. Aucklanders or JAFFA's as WE are so fondly referred to be anyone who lives south of the Bombay hills and north of the Hibiscus coast are renowned for not queueing but going elsewhere. So to see a queue, in Auckland, on a saturday afternoon, where everywhere else nearby is whisper quiet seemed an extraordinary coup for Al and the team. I have to say that the place looked great. Cool, funky, industrial and retro chic are just a few of the names I could use to describe the look and feel of the place. It oozes charm and looks like its been there for an eternity rather than still being a fairly new kid on the block. We were greeted at the door by the man himself, Mr Brown, who seemed to know my dining companions so we were promptly ushered to a spot out in the sun on the wooden table that lines the front window. A stroke of luck I think, but being a permanent resident of Sydney now, queues and me go way back and I've been known to queue for over an hour to get something tasty in my belly. The service was bright, uber friendly and knowledgeable, offering us suggestions for drinks as well as menu starters. A couple of dishes they absolutely insisted we get as they were the house speciality. Im a sucker for a hard sell, se we got the dishes on offer plus many more to satisfy our hunger and imaginations. The have a raw bar with freshly shucked oysters and tutus, which were briny and super fresh, reminding me of a childhood spent knee deep in the ocean picking pipis and cockles. A NZ meat platter came out with cornchicons and AB's own mustard pickle served with vintage New Zealand silver teaspoons. All this great food was wrapped up in a fantastic dining experience that I have yet to meet its equivalent in the Auckland CBD. My experience was not saddened by the price either, as I cant tell you what that was, as I didn't pay. This is probably the best way to dine, ever :)

We dropped in for breaky. They have tasty coffee, a small breakfast menu but what's on it is really good and fresh. The staff were friendly and the service quick.

My wife and I love this place great food and service as well as a Manu that always seems to have the right mix of old favourites and new temptations to try the fish sliders are one of our favorite dishes.

Trendy and very popular with Aucklander's. Meals are slightly above average so are the prices. Would i go again probably not too many other choices in Auckland.

Fantastic food at depot tonight. Oysters superb, potato skins to die for, but the menu item you MUST TRY BEFORE YOU DIE? Sugar Pie.

Well worth a stop. Really good food, relaxed atmosphere. Try the lamb ribs and the ham hock. The oysters are pretty good too.

Try the Sugar Pie and for sharing main, the Hapuka Belly. Mmm mmm. Great service, great spot, great food. Small outdoor area which is nice on a sunny afternoon. Go.
