T.What struck me the most coming here was the staff go out of their way to be friendly. So many cafes in Auckland have unenthusiastic and drab staff so it was nice to be met by a team of fun and excited workers. Food was great, the premises is quite large so there are multiple sitting areas all with their own dynamic.

A.Visited on a cold wet day, ordered my coffee 'hot', it came out 'hot'! Delicious cabinet food, I had mushroom and haloumi tart, it took a while for them to warm it up but well worth the wait. Easy 5 stars.

C.We visited for the first time last week and was absolutely delighted with the food (cafe staples done well, good size portions and without the pretentiousness), service and the ambience. We have a curious 1.5 year old and he had fun too! It was spacious, with a little play area for the little ones, beautiful scenery at the outdoor dining area and the staff were so friendly and thoughtful. Very family friendly, good vibe and an absolute gem! We like this place so much we went again today and it was another lovely experience. We will be back for sure :-)
S.Wow!! Whole new beautiful look and vibe. Great coffee, sensational food with a great deal of care and effort gone into it by the new owners. We loved the buckwheat seeded toast and homemade berry jam. This cafw is definitely on the favourites list for us now.

C.It is stunning beautiful place where you can have delicious breakfast with your whole family. It looks old and small from outside but it is indeed spacious place having tables inside and covered balcony with many kind flowers.

B.Great relaxing atmosphere in this family eatery. The staff are very friendly and when we completed our food and drinks order, we went and sat down and the table marker was an old 7 single record with the number on it. The food we received was very well displayed on the plate and beautiful big portions. The coffee and iced coffee was really great. We had a very relaxing visit and will definitely be back again. The whole experience was great and the place was busy the whole time we were their, we spent about 2 hrs there. Staff continuously come to the table to see if all is well with the meal and if you need anything additional.

S.Such a lovely fresh refit of this corner spot in Rothesay Bay. The new owners are very proud of their coffee (which a house roast) but it's a touch grunty for my tastes. That's just me though as my husband likes it. They are also open a handful of evenings and have quite an adventurous menu. Would love it if they expanded the wine and beer offerings as sitting on the back deck in the afternoon with a nice glass of something would be magic.

M.Very much enjoyed the ambiance and service in this cute cafe. Food was excellent. Could have done with a few throw rugs as lots of doors open and a bit chilly inside.

This cafe is an Ahhh cafe - it's like putting on comfortable pair of slippers you just slip em on and your feet say ahhhh and you drink your coffee and leave with a peaceful feeling as if having had a rest.

C.I had passed by The Eatery on Knights Rd Rothesay Bay many times while walking the dog but I never stopped to check it out. I always had the dog, so I never stopped for a coffee or a bite to eat. But the smells wafting across the pavement tempted me to check it out. So late one Sunday afternoon I did just that and the "nose"
( mine not the dogs's) was not wrong.
I stopped for a coffee and a scone, but the other food offerings on display looked equally delightfully fresh and tempting.
They obviously excelled at breakfast judging by the number of customers that went there so i was curious to see what had become of the old Armadillos. I was not disappointed in the food either.
The scone was warm buttery heaven. Light and fluffy with lashings of melted butter with a nice crunchy crusty top. That scone took me back to my aunts place, where hot scones straight out of the oven, lashed with cream and home made raspberry jam that tickled the tongue washed down with a strong mug of tea was the Sunday norm.
But my real experience of The Eatery was yet to come.
My son informed us that he had just received an email informing him he had graduated from University.
Unfortunately due to covid, there would be no official presentation with all usual the pomp and ceremony
We decided to celebrate his wonderful achievement with a celebratory dinner nonetheless.
My wife contacted "The Eatery" to see if she could book in as i had taken their menu home from my visit but hadn't told her that they only did dinners on Friday and Saturday. She was told that they weren’t open on the night in question, but as she explained the significance of the occasion, the management said they would open the restaurant just for us,if we could gather 10 or more.
We achieved that number with ease and proceeded to the restaurant at the nominated time, to find the tables magnificently set out with white linen and flowers everywhere, with candles and lights everywhere it was a picture.
Unasked, they reduced the beer price to $5.00 and waived the corkage on the wine we had brought with us.How generous.
The waiting staff were always attentive to our requests but also unobtrusive.
We all ordered entrees and mains and soon enough the food arrived and boy it was good. I had the lamb shank on a Kumara mash, with burnt broccoli and crispy shallots. It was just YUM!! The shank meat simply melted off the bone and the accompanying vegetables were so damned tasty.
Like most men I contemplated saying Yes please I'll take two.Thank goodness I didn't because i could hardly get through the one. The size of those lamb shanks !!They must have been made to run marathons or had employed personal trainers to build up muscles like that.
I think they must have thought we were all giants. I kid you not, the helpings were extremely generous.
Guys who can usually tuck it away, were struggling and some left with some very full dogie bags.
Others had the pork ribs, a huge plate full of them, which as I have said eventually defeated them. and dogie bags prevailed.BUT those ribs were realllyy Gooddd.
So tasty, with lots of meat on them and a thick sauce that clung to them like tar on a blanket.

The Eatery is not for sparrow eaters, it serves some of the biggest portions I have had at a restaurant. It wasn't flashy fusion food it was the type of comfort food that hungover people on a Sunday will just adore.
We all thoroughly agreed that the experience was first rate and enjoyed and appreciated what was one of the better restaurants that had re- opened its doors. (especially, in our case, when it didn’t have to)
I will certainly be back for more - probably that fillet steak, or maybe the pork belly, No, no, wait perhaps the market fresh fish? So many good things on offer it looks like I will be going back more than once. But you know what I really can’t wait.
A.Yum food and friendly service. Coffee needs some work (nice they took it off the bill 👍)
Atmosphere very relaxed and the view of Rangitoto from the back deck is great.
Being ‘family-friendly’ meant it was noisy w kids but not too bad.
Staff uniform shouldn’t include those thin leggings that go semi-opaque when stretched 😬
Overall good if you need a relaxed cafe to take the kids and I’ll be back to check on the coffee 😊
C.Coffee is good! Service a little forgetful and a bit airy fairy but the food makes up for that! The best creamy mushrooms ever! Wow. If this had 10 stars I would give them 10 for the creamy mushrooms.
N.A great view if the weather is clear but in an Auckland winter you need to pick a better day than when I visited. Pleasant service and the food was nice. Perhaps 4 stars on a sunny day with clear sky.

C.Food and service was decent, prices were reasonable, however I was put off by the woman who greeted us as we came in. Very unapologetic about the fact that they had a large booking and the only table available was outside. Word for word,
"Oh, are you wanting to eat here? Well, we have a large booking today, so the only tables are either the back deck or outside... actually the back deck is full, you have to sit outside". By the way, it was raining.
Very rude to be honest. However, the other staff made it a bit better, and a very friendly family were welcoming enough to let my partner and me sit with them.
May give it a second chance, but the first impression is hard to shake.

E.This place is so good my friend and I came for brunch two days in a row.
The atmosphere is great, with lots of pretty plants everywhere. I don’t know how they keep them so lush. Please tell me your secrets!
The food was outstanding. My friend is vegetarian, and there were several enticing options if you’re that way inclined too. I like a bit of meat but try to avoid battery cages/sow crates etc., so I was happy to know all the meat they serve is free range.
Despite being very busy, all the dishes appeared in a timely fashion and were beautifully presented. We scraped our plates clean on both visits. Don’t pass up on the potato hash! The coffee was great too.
Keep up the good work. We’ll definitely be back.
