Food was nice but definitely overpriced. There are plenty of other Japanese restaurants that offer same nice food with 1/2 price. Customer’s expectation of the experience is built on the the price they pay for. Service was slow tho there were only 2 tables in the restaurant at the time I went. I hope owners will see this review and find it helpful for improvement.

Hands down, one of the best Japanese restaurants in Auckland (With a bit of Korean). Greeted indoors with a smile and served with excellent food, I would highly recommend this place. Food taste is very clean to the end and is very polished. I don't review this detailed but this place left me a great impression. Atmosphere is great while on late evenings it gets even quieter. Parking can be a hassle though. Would highly recommend.

Nice Japanese restn in highbury, easy to find, park outside. Tasty dishes, tempura is yum, good value. Excellent staff.

Without doubt, the food & refreshments, the service and the vibe elevate this fine establishment to be one of the best Japanese restaurants on Auckland's North Shore. Highly recommended. 🏯 1️⃣ ... and they are really friendly so no Passport is required from visitors to the North Shore.🛂😁

Nice Japanese restaurant with reasonable prices. Appeared clean with nice atmosphere & nice decor. Came here for dinner with 6 family members of a variety of ages with the youngest being 10 yrs and everyone enjoyed their meal. The only minor negative was that the meals didn't arrive altogether and we had to wait nearly 10mins for the last meal to arrive from the first. Other than that, would still definitely return.

This is a “MUST TRY”!!!! I’ve been coming here for about 6 years now and the food is ALWAYS AMAZING! Freshly cooked, delicious and well presented. The menu is perfect, something for everyone. The staff are lovely. Very friendly, efficient and polite. Fantastic food and great value for money! A tucked away in a causal setting. This is by far one of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Auckland. I’m always recommending this place to friends & family... I love this place and will continue to visit!

Staff were really friendly and very accommodating of dietary requirements. All The food was great. Especially the delicate salmon sashimi. Wooden floors can make for echoing acoustics but the music was at good quiet volume. Would definitely go back. Thanks to the Hayashi team for a lovely evening.

I've come here for many years and their food is actually amazing everytime. The chicken/salmon teriyaki mains and the rolls are just different from anywhere else. Definitly worth a try if you're in the neighbourhood. You WONT regret it.

Friendly professional service, cute little restaurant perfect for a date or a small group. Great selection of food. Pricing was reasonable and completive with great portion sizes. Overall an enjoyable and friendly place to have a yummy bite to eat.

Hayashi has the best lunch/bento boxes in Auckland that I've had thus far. The lunch boxes come with sashimi, sushi, salad, 3 Tempora pieces, miso and your choice of chicken, beef or pork. The chicken was cooked perfectly, extremely tender and tasty. They also serve the rice separately from the teriyaki which is nice. The serving sizes are perfect and they run about $20. More than you'd get at most cafe's and definitely better tasting than most. The service was friendly and helpful, though there were only 3 of us in the restaurant for lunch. The venue is bigger than most places in Birkenhead and would make a great spot for a social gathering or renting it out for a party.

We discovered Hayashi while passing through Birkenhead one evening, and it was so enjoyable, it has become a weekly ritual for us. It is some of the best sushi for reasonable prices, fresh and tasty, accompanied by great service that we have found in Auckland. We haven't found one thing on the menu we haven't liked yet.

Not like Korean-run restaurant, this one has pretty much authentic Japanese taste. Fairly good quality for money. Nicely located in the result accessible location. Highly recommended to all.

Food was really nice but unfortunately service was average and they missed some of our meals, so ended up leaving a bit hungry.

Nice food, but the service was a bit shambolic. We went in a Friday evening so they were busy, but not rammed. Had to wait a while for food and several mistakes made. They are very friendly though. Despite this, I'd go back.

Not bad. Their dynamite roll was amazing, but the rainbow roll was awful. It's on par with the sushi you'd find in a small city in the Midwest (of the United States), like Madison, WI.
