Reviews of Homeland
C.
First time for us dining at Homeland and we are extremely happy with our visit.
Service was great and very professional and the food was fantastic, thoroughly recommend trying Homeland if you are visiting Auckland.
I.
Awesome food, best restaurant in CBD. Only few vegan options but super tasty! Nice view to pier and herbs &veggies around you. Check out way to toilets where you can enjoy in mini Gallery.
J.
I’ve been a big fan of Peter Gordon in the past with Sugar Club and even his past contributions to the Air NZ Business Class menu were surprisingly good.. but sadly, even the plane food was better than my experience at Homeland.
The Salmon salad was nice and set things off to a good start but it was downhill from there.
My sirloin steak was cooked perfectly despite never actually being asked how I wanted it cooked, but I’m glad I came our on the rarer side. The polenta chips accompanying were overcooked and the Brussels sprouts didn’t add much flavour to the dish.
Where things went really wrong was the Blue Cod in Coconut Milk was pretty bad. The cod had almost no flavour so all we could taste was coconut and pretty much nothing else.
The broccoli was fine too, but nothing special.
R.
First off, best coffee in Auckland. Plus, delicious scones, bacon and egg pie, and a ricotta mushroom tart as Level 3 breakfast offerings. But our very favorite is the fish pie (serves 2) for lunch or dinner. They have several main meal offerings that have to be heated in an oven, including this pie. But for us, once we heat, plate and serve the pie, it's like having a real restaurant meal--a treat in these times! Probably would be best to make a side salad or get a veg, but we just do the pie. Fabulous!
Update: OMG, the summer cocktail is AMAZING! And the Chatham Island blue cod. Also amazing!

Been wanting to try Peter Gordon's latest dining venture for quite a while and we finally made it!
We came during lunch time over a weekend and took a seat in their covered outdoor seating amongst their vege patch and with the view outside.
My Smoked Kahawai Kedgeree with a soft-boiled egg and Creme Fraiche was fab. I love smoked fish and this was perfectly made. I had a bite of my friend's Creamed Paua on toast, yum!
The service was friendly and quick. The outside is dog friendly and they quickly came with a doggie bowl of water for the Frenchie.
R.
I came here last week for a light lunch and my expectations were fulfilled with beautiful scrumptious food, the best I have eaten in a very long time. The atmosphere is light and breezy even when inside, I didnt feel unsafe with Omicron in the air because we were well spaced out. The staff were courteous, and attentive. I love the shop and the fact Peter Gordon is on hand checking everything is being done to his standard. The little shop is filled with some great take home treats. I honestly will place this restaurant on the top of my list because the food was fantastic, the service great and the atmosphere wonderful - Peter Gordon you did not disappoint. I hope you will survive this year by people coming to support you.
R.
It was a beautiful dinner!! The entire team was so friendly, and the menu absolutely knocked out the park, featuring simple ingredients jam-packed with Aotearoa’s flavour. Will definitely be back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant.
M.
We went on dinner time, Satffs are all very nice, Food are good and fresh.
Nice place, have good view at night could see the bridge.
Just one small thing will be better is probably should put Title on menu as Starter’ Main’ Dessert, that was the only thing was confused us.
Overall is pretty good!
N.
The creamed Paua is incredible, we had to order a second one! Lovely dining room, genuine caring service, good wine list and bold flavours on the menu. Every dish was outstanding. Really loved dinner here! Lots of tempting treats available to take home as well, things like sambal, chutneys etc at the front desk.
A.
Had a great night at Homeland. Our server was amazing she was right on how much food to order as sides and starters. I had the beef shortrib for my main course and Baked cheese cake for dessert. Both of these dishes were soooooo good. I love the pacific infused flavors added into the menu and will definately be eating here again.
G.
Great. Went as a group of four. Vaccine pass protocols followed simply and easily.
Very relaxed atmosphere but excellent staff without austerity or intrusiveness.
Food - tried nearly every dish on the menu.
Highlights - tuna, mushrooms and the pork croquettes.
Or and the LAMB - Greek and Turkish elements. Beautifully braised for hours and finished in the oven.
Dessert - choc tart, summer brioche pudding and the coconut panna cotta. Stunning. I preferred the brioche summer pudding.
I.
A delightful place for a brunch or a late lunch. I had an amazing lamb shoulder with a glass of merlo - so rich and flavourful. The service was spot on.
K.
Some of the best food we have ever had. Staff excellent, and on point looking after our group. Everything placed in the middle for sharing, best way to eat with friends and whānau . Highly recommend, will be back whenever we are in Akld. Still thinking about it today.
t.
First time in Homeland and wow, I was expecting smaller fine servings but the serving was perfect but the taste and experience is definitely up there with the best. Peter the Master Chef himself even came to ask us how everything was.
D.
Such amazing food served by the loveliest people. super easy online ordering platform and a menu that keeps offering something new. Sometimes I don't even get my favorite meal because the new offering is too appetising. That's how reliably tasty they are. awesome eatery
G.
Peter and Al have hit the mark with Homeland. Amazing food and great staff in an amazing dining area. Peter showcases the best Kiwi products. A must visit. And the creamed Paua is Devine.
R.
Really nice atmosphere and service was great. Cheese scone was top notch and good coffee. Got the paneer which unfortunately was missing the minted pea salsa in the beginning but someone soon fixed it. Overall the dish was kinda underseasoned and I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped. My husband got the corn and blueberry fritters with pork belly which was delicious.
Y.
Very new and flash restaurant with a sustainable and seasonal menu. Service is top notch and they have daily baked goods at the counter as well as seated menu options. Note, it is a little expensive but it is worth a try for something a little different to your average cafe/restaurant.
S.
Honestly one of the most amazing foods I've had. It was fresh, hot, served in a timely manner, and just so interesting. The staff were absolutely amazing also, and the atmosphere was calm and peaceful.
C.
Amazing food really nice staff. Good range of dishes especially for non- meat eaters. Lovely atmosphere
D.
Have just eaten the most amazing meal of lamb shoulder and a side of turmeric infused cauliflower with roasted chickpeas - the best takeout we’ve had during this lockdown of 11 weeks so far. Peter Gordon and staff at Homeland your restaurant is world class. Thanks so much!
L.
The most delicious fish pie and roast vege salad, generous portions plenty for two. Easy click and collect, simple reheat instructions makes it seem like we cooked ourselves amazing!
L.
A glass of bubbles and creamed pāua on toast - nothing could be better! everything was perfect. Great staff, atmosphere and a thoughtful sustainable menu. My new fave place for Lunch with Louise
J.
100% worth a visit. A lot of time and effort has gone into making Homeland a unique destination. Would be a great place to host a range of events.
J.
Fantastic food and coffee in a super handy spot. Plenty of parking etc.
Highly recommend you check this place out if you haven’t already!
J.
The food here is amazing. Had a wait for a bit but the manager, Sachin was super friendly and helpful. The view from the restaurant is really nice too.
N.
It was a whole experience. So proud to see NZ used in the food, the atmosphere was so enjoyable, the variety of NZ wares on sale in beautiful surroundings was a joy. Not to mention the food and service was divine. Many thanks Homeland team
W.
I hesitate to say this in case they sell out and I never get them again , but the cheese scones from here are out of this world!! They are 💯 the best scones I have ever had & you can also get frozen ones as well !!! Run don’t walk
A.
Saturday brunch, excellent again. We had the Spanish Eggs & Blubbery & Corn Fritters with Hangi Pork Belly, highly recomended.
G.
Absolutely fantastic meals. Some beautiful seafood from the Chatham Islands. Don’t miss the creamed paua on toast - a real taste of Aotearoa
M.
I was going to leave a long review but I’ll just replicate my husband’s words when eating the lamb: oh my god this lamb, oh my god! The food was delicious, the staff on point (attentive but not over the top), nice waterfront views and beautiful earthy crockery.
B.
We ordered the click and collect menu today. The paua, "lasagne" and vege salad. This is just pure stay at home meal magic. I am sure it's even eat in restaurant magic! That lasagne is so, so, so clever and delicious. Great.
J.
Delicious food and great marina outlook
B.
We are so glad to be back to Homeland after all these months. As usual, yummy food and great service. Until next time :)
A.
Had high expectations but the clams were so sandy I was literally chewing sand mid-way (told I should have reported it at the beginning - but I didn't get as much sand in the beginning! No refund). Potentially offset by the peanut butter & butterscotch parfait which was amazing.
S.
This was our first visit to Homeland. Peter Gordon has set up a wonderful operation here with cooking school as well as the restaurant. We ate from the breakfast menu and could not fault any one of the four dishes ordered. The staff were attentive, the background music low enough not to annoy and the decor is simple. We had a look at the dinner menu and have decided that a return visit is not too far away.
E.
Best coffee I've had in years! Amazing cheese scones too 😁
P.
So excited to be back to back with Peter Gordon, I was too embarrassed to ask for a pic but he caught my eye, smiled and waved! Thrilling for a long time fan. Food was super, gorgeous location, good service, smooth coffee.
S.
Bought a takeaway flat white plus a few scones to try, both the cheese and date variety, and the place was spacious and inviting for customers, the service was friendly and pleasant so will definitely return for a in-house experience, cheers
S.
Amazing food, we had the charcuterie and the salmon to start and beef and lamb for mains. Great wines. Very kiwi vibes with a dog in the restaurant and Peter Gordon serving tables in his shorts and jandals! The outside seating area is awesome and the sky was lit up with a colourful sunset when we went. I was slightly concerned that they handed us an information sheet proclaiming they sustainability was at the heart of all they do but were then serving hāpuka which is rated by Forest and Bird as a 'worst choice' seafood.
F.
What a great evening at Homeland! The food was fantastic, the team were just lovely, relaxed & super helpful. Their recommendations were a complete hit, definitely get the salmon! I’ll be back, thanks team!
K.
What a beautiful place; the food, decor and ambience created by Peter, Alastair and the team is really exceptional. It achieves everything it sets out to do, high quality food, respectful of the producers, the environment and the consumers. Quintessential Kiwi hospitality, high quality with no pretensions just genuine openness and care. Peter and Alastair spent an inordinate amount of time with our children (6 between two families) showing them the cookery school and sharing their childhood experiences of cooking. It was incredibly impressive that on a busy Saturday night they had so much time and patience for 6 talkative kids. Thank you!
R.
Family lunch at Homeland was perfect.
Light and relaxed yet no detail or extra touch was overlooked. Food was delicious!! Peter and Alastair and their lovely team know how to look after you. Looking forward to going back.
L.
Wonderful evening at Homeland!
Just loved the decor and spacious feel to Homeland as we walked in.
Really welcoming and we discussed the cooking classes before being seated. Julie is a dream front of house ( and a lot more I suspect ) with years of working Federal St restaurants, and she had a lovely table for us to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
All the tables are spread a distance from the next - such a surprise when most restaurants are now cramming people in so you end up having dinner with the guests at the next tables. I didn't see any small tables for two so if you were a party of two there was plenty of space for the dishes, wine and water :-)
I had the Fish of the day and David had the Lamb. Both delicious. Don't miss out on the Rolled Pavlova - pavlova with a twist. See photo
It was so light and totally not your standard pav.
Katie our waitstaff was attentive and friendly and we will definitely be back, the yachts rocking outside as the sun set was so City of Sails.
R.
We celebrated a friend’s birthday (brunch) there, and it was really good. Food and service great, and lovely setting too!
P.
Had dinner for St Valentine's and really enjoyed the fresh kaimoana. It's a bit out of the way but this means it's quieter and spacious. Nice that you can grab your favourite ingredients on your way out, and the personal chef's touch when serving mains. Would call in again.
A.
It was a great night celebration , it was our anniversary , and the host Alistair (co owner) he was great, looked after us so well . Menu was nice and simple , not too over priced and the key is business is supporting local businesses at the same time using local ingredients. Our server Michael was great as well . Will def come again for another important date . Thanks homeland .
K.
Wow..... how lucky are we to have such a sensational restaurant in Auckland. The food is exceptional, flavoursome and high quality, yet not skimping on quantity. Service and ambience also fab.
G.
We have had three great breakfasts at Homeland and will be back for more. If you want to pop in for a coffee and pastries or sit and linger over an excellent and interesting breakfast all bases are covered. Great location, excellent food and interesting menu. Looking forward to having dinner here.
B.

I LOVE this place. The food was divine. The lamb shoulder and the beef cheek were so tender.
The staffs were very nice and welcoming.
The restaurant had a great view and very nice ambiance.
Will definitely come back.
L.
Delicious food, friendly welcoming service, exiting menu! What else could you look for? Well, their prices are very reasonable and also they do heaps to support the community. We love this place!
T.
We went for a birthday brunch with the family
The food was amazing even our young diners enjoyed trying something new the hay smoked carrots were well received.
We will definitely be back again Thank you Peter for showing our young grandkids around the cooking school they really loved talking to you
R.
Underwhelmed. Not a word I use very often, but I was Underwhelmed by the service , the food and the furniture. Our server couldn't even tell us how one of the signature dishes ( lamb) was cooked. We asked " How is the lamb cooked?" "I don't know I'll ask the Chef?" Surely some training from the chef detailing how each dish is prepared would be mandatory , particularly in a flagship restaurant from Peter Gordon. Our server also tried repeatedly to take my so called empty cocktail glass away , I kept on telling them , " No I haven't finished " I found the wooden tub chairs hard and uncomfortable, my opinion , possibly not everyone's cup of tea. The food itself was supposed to be presented all at the same time. It was our choice and our expectation to have all the dishes arrive in a timely fashion. When we're still waiting for a salad after all the hot dishes had arrived and we'd asked at least 2 times , you get the drift to see we weren't impressed. The slow cooked lamb was superb, The Trevally good , The Eye fillet was tender but was lost in the accompanying salad. The Salmon was tasty and full of flavour. We expected better and obviously are sure that some service issues will go away . As an example of the difference in service, we went to Prego in Ponsonby on the Thursday before here and the waiter rattled off all the specials and recommended one in particular as they'd had it recently, I not sure what happened at Homeland but the wait staff need to up their game .
J.
Great venue, friendly service with delicious meals. Good for a coffees too.
They also run a cooking class in a very well set out learning and cooking space.
C.
Great location, nice layout and decor. Lovely food and very attentive staff. Beautiful views out over the harbour and of the pleasure boats in the marina.
A.
Had a gorgeous lunch in the sun at Homeland! Highlight had to be the paua toast - make sure you try it. Will be booking one of the upcoming cooking classes, can't wait!
