Reviews of Lillius Restaurant
E.
We had the 6 course menu, food and service were both amazing. 5/5 experience and taste. The egg custard & crab starter was a highlight for me, as well as all their other starters. Butter was super soft & creamy. And each dish was absolutely delicious - fave being the lamb.
As it was our anniversary it got written on a plate in chocolate with a candle which was so cute 😍.
d.
Omg yum! The decor was understated luxury. And if you’re into tiles go visit the bathrooms 😂 Great date night location. Could not fault the food and I tried everything. Personally I preferred the Wapiti entree, lamb main and pumpkin dessert. But man it was tight. The menu is seasonal so these options may no longer be available. Highly recommend!!!!
M.
Good vibe and friendly staff. We had degustation. The plating was good. The food was very tasty but I just didn't feel it reached a wow taste. However, please take my review with a grain of salt as taste is a subjective factor.
K.
Lillius is by far the best fine dining restaurant I’ve tried and want to keep going back. Fraser is such an amazing chef that anytime he comes up with a new menu, you’ll never disappoint. Everything is creatively put together that brings a little surprise in every bite. The space is cosy and service is always welcoming. Highly highly recommended 🙌.
W.
By far the best restaurant in Auckland. Creative and tasty food presented perfectly. My go to, and well worth it. Couldn't recommend it highly enough, an awesome team of chefs and wait staff who go the extra mile. Thank you!
M.
Fine dining at its best. Kept our taste buds on their toes. When we dined the menu had a number of sea food dishes. I'm not a huge seafood person but ate what I could and my partner devoured what I couldn't finish. Would definitely return. My most memorable dishes were the duck, cream donut and kiwifruit dessert.
R.
Lillius was a complete surprise, I hadn't heard of it before but am so glad that my sister in law booked it for us.
We all decided to go for the 6 course chef's choice and weren't disappointed. The dishes were creative and complex without being confused. The market, which for us was tuna, was incredible.
The wine list is extensive and the menu is seasonal so we'll definitely be revisiting to see what Fraser can do with the Autumn menu!
J.
Went for a dinner for our wedding anniversary and we had such a great experience from team Lillius.
Nick served our table, he was so friendly and kind, Also he had a great understanding and knowledge about their menu.
Food was very creative and delicious too.
Will definitely go back and highly recommend to other people to visit.
B.
We had the 6 course degustation and wow! We couldn’t be more impressed! To give you an idea we’ve visited over a dozen “top” restaurants in Auckland but in that we’ve also dined at the worlds best Osteria Francesca and the team, “conductor”/manager selected nothing but the most spectacular pairing and evening courses! I couldn’t fault them bar the fact that I wish I had an actual “doggie bag” because there was much to enjoy! An absolute 12/10 experience and I think the mere fact that you include everything in your menu plus supports local boutique vineyards is an absolute knock out the park!
D.
Something of a mystery.
The menu we chose we could be told the courses or have a surprise.
We chose the latter.
Then we also had a vegetarian friend.
He was very happy with his courses and so were we.
It was my birthday treat.
The hostess and part owner is lovely.
The decor is relaxed and elegant, love the colour scheme . The decoration over the bar is fabulous. Although there are hard surfaces the sound quality was very good. No problems hearing conversations.
Definitely one to return to.

I was excited to finally dine at Lillius after much anticipation and wonderful feedback. The restaurant upon entering is highly impressive and sleek, with polished concrete floors and matte walls with pops of gold and royal blue in the seating and booths. It was very aesthetically pleasing and the staff was simply exceptional, so hospitable, warming and engaging.
The options within three course menu were exciting and featured NZ sourced produce at its best. I was so excited to sample the food and the wine, starting off with a North Otago Pinot Noir which was smooth and silky on the palate.
As a prelude to my first course, I was offered some starters of sweet corn smoked custard with popped rice, tuatua with hollandaise and smoked pork finger and cured pork with creamed egg in rice wafer and these were mouth watering and the perfect preparation to dinner. Next to arrive was their home baked warm sourdough bread with buffalo milk butter and that was extraordinary.
My first course was pressed arrow squid with layered smoked trevally in buttermilk with radishes. This dish was a cold dish and the textures were lovely with the squid being the highlight.
For my main, I thoroughly enjoyed the Houhora pork featuring pork belly and pork loin with parsnip purée and an assortment of charred brassicas featuring Savoy cabbage, cauliflower stems and broccolini. The pork loin was simply heavenly and so tender. The entire dish was so loving and nurturing with the various textures and flavours which complemented perfectly. It was my favorite pork dish I’ve had in a very long time.
I ordered a rose hip hibiscus gin cocktail with freeze dried berries and dried hibiscus atop, it was simply delightful and to accompany my closing dish of NZ cheeses with lavosh, crusty sourdough bread and preserves, I ordered a chilled Yarra Valley Syrah.
The entire dining experience was exquisite and truly memorable from the cuisine to the the beverages and the spectacular service. I will most definitely return and am happy to have discovered a new favorite restaurant. What I appreciated most about the dishes was reminiscing about childhood food flavour memories that evoked at a more elevated level. The use of local produce was front and center stage.
This really is a 5 Star restaurant and it was a true privilege to experience dining here. Highly recommended with distinction!
H.
Had the set menu which was absolutely delicious! The small plates in between were a delightful addition. Casual elegant decor. Highly recommended.
N.
Superb dining experience !!!! Well executed dish with big flavored and great service. Everything is faultless. Will definitely come back !
C.
Excellent service! Excellent food! Loved the overall environment. Explanation on each dish was very helpful in admiring the food.
F.
Food was incredibly good, the service was amazing and the lighting and decoration was very nice. One of my favourite mocktails too.
A.
What an outstanding restaurant Lillius is!
The service was polished, the team at Lillius hosted our rather large and somewhat raucous group with much patience, grace and humour.
The dining room is visually beautiful and befits the food which is similarly attractive.
The food was exquisite, technically accomplished and cleverly uses textures to great effect.
Some interesting ingredients were incorporated into our 5 course tasting menu, especially in the dish that was for us the highlight- grilled white asparagus with green asparagus purée, a sesame brittle, cultured cream and rimu oil, yes rimu oil!
In conclusion, a highly recommend restaurant in the upper echelon of dining experiences in the country. It was a pleasure supporting the young owner/operators and I implore you to do the same, you won’t be disappointed.
Sadly for me, no bread will ever measure up to Lillius’ sourdough with buffalo milk butter, I can only hope it’ll be the same next time!

Fine Dining🥂Top Top👍
Gentle Restaurant and Great service😋
I love here ,The couple opened this restaurant together~is very lovely😘😘
The food is as gentle as love and so is the service😊🎀
R.
Just had the Sunday takeaway sourdough, tomato base and pork pizza.
Absolutely you have aced the base and full of flavours. A real treat and thanks so much. We'll be back and pleased you're able to cater for your customers. Cheers, Bob n Anne
J.
Awesome food and decor. We had the 6 course menu and absolutely delicious. Ingredients they used are not common and truly live up to the surprised nature of the fine dining. Price is reasonable considering the effort they put into every dish. Yum yum yum. I wish I could add another star.........
Booking is a breeze using their website and great communication Shannon!
I would definitely recommend the restaurant to everyone.
J.
Pretty cramped booth seating (even for two). Some good dishes, some not so good. Restaurant manager was on point and knew his stuff though.
R.
Good food, beautifully presented. An interesting menu and, whilst not extensive, some definitely intriguing combinations and flavours on offer. The dessert choices are the most unusual I have encountered but I enjoyed the Olive Oil Parfait much more than I expected! A pleasant and intimate setting and not overly expensive for Newmarket.
K.
We had the most lovely dinner experience here, all of the food was perfect. We opted for ala carte, and had sourdough bread (it came out beautifully warm and the butter was next level), a main each with two sides, and shared the olive oil parfait for dessert. Every bite was so flavorful and well balanced. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will definitely come back and do the tasting menu next time. Loved the ambience, music and decor of the restaurant.
L.
Great food but some items a bit too salty. Waiter got the order wrong and was slightly defensive about it. Great atmosphere otherwise and good tasting food. It's a fine dining experience so expect small portions
T.
The butter was amazing, services were great but the main dish did not live up to the expectations.
O.
Had an exceptional meal at Lillius today. Have been several times and it never disappoints. The seasonal changes to the menu were superb and it was on point. Well recommended.
R.
Delicious flavours in a lovely setting.
Very enjoyable.
T.
Pros
- Delicious food.
- Well sized for ala carte. I have a good appetite and left happy after entree, main, dessert and seasonal veg side.
- Some of the best food plating I've ever seen in NZ, surpassing some of the top restaurants in NZ. Food looks like the photos and even better in some cases.
Constructive feedback
- Providing something to go with sourdough, virgin olive oil was good but perhaps a little salt (sea, grey, smoked etc) on the side too.
Worth eating at, this place should be a contender for many restaurant awards if standards are maintained.
A.
Really enjoyed our meal. Not just delicious food but clever and artfully prepared. The degustation menu flowed really beautifully from first dish to the last. Service was perfection. Looking forward to our next visit.
M.
A very nice dining experience. We did the 6 course degustation and loved it. Stand out dishes are the Paua dish and the olive oil parfait for dessert. Also the cocktail is a must try. Very impressed, we will be back.
C.
We went here for my birthday, opted for the a la carte menu over the tasting menu and every dish was so amazing we kept being blown away by how well executed everything is. The service was perfection, our Waitress was so knowledgeable about every element on the dish and explained it so well. I would highly recommend!
a.
If anyone remembers the old days of the Grove Restaurant - this is every bit as good and is to be highly recommended. We appreciate that the menu changes with produce but the squid, potato, pork and desert dishes were exceptional. Service is casual and efficient. Very slightly off put by the choice of music but it wasn't loud so this is only a minor comment.
A.
Trendy decor, good pacing of the courses on the set menu, and the plating was excellent! Every dish looked delicious.
That said, the amuse bouche was a concentrated hit of salty, fatty decadence which was lovely in a small bite, but unfortunately this set the tone for the rest of the savoury courses. Everything came out with a heavy broth and fatty meats. None of which I object to, but most dishes were missing something fresh and zingy.
We were both starting to be over Lillius until the desserts came out, and WOW! They were a breath of fresh air after the main courses!! They were novel, well executed, delicious and super fresh! The sugared kiwi fruit was like nothing I’d had before and the olive oil parfait was perfect.
Overall, a mixed bag but the Little Wing Syrah was great.
D.
So so so tasty. The food was immaculate. The service terrific. Great wine selection. Poured concrete. Farm-to-table. Great ambiance. High, lofty ceilings. The decor stunning. Elegant, but cozy. That said, the actual seating is where it loses a star. While I loved everything about it, the booths are a little too small to sit side-by-side and comfortably eat a meal. I don't know how you'd do it with 3. It loses just a little bit of function to form, but otherwise stupidly good.
A.
I've been here a few times and it is a delightful experience. The food is excellent and innovative. There are interesting, novel mini plates in between courses. Their Menu has a wide choice of New Zealand ingredients . The staff are very friendly well informed and helpful . I don't think I'd be able to get through their 5 course selection but there 3 course menu is just perfect. Go there for a treat and come away enchanted..
J.
We booked the degustation at a table for 4. The waitress was a wonderful bubbly girl, knowledgable about the meals and gave good advice about wine paring. The food was excellent with great attention to detail. I couldn't fault the restaurant at all, the only disappointment was a nearby table of increasingly rowdy businessmen.
R.
WOW! - Just entering the restaurant you can feel the quality and sophistication. This is fine dining without the super swankiness. You feel at home, yet know you've come somewhere special. The food is impeccable and tasty, kiwi influenced from paddock to plate, with a European flair. We opted for the 3 course menu, excluding the special bonuses. The portions are a generous size, you won't go home hungry! Good selection of drinks, quality beers and great wine and exceptional service to match.
Highly Recommended - We will be back!
K.
Greeted with a warm welcome and wonderful service, we chose the 3 course menu which came with 2 additional snacks to start, these were delicious and our favorite dishes. I felt the mains were a little bit of a let down, The pork loin was under-cooked and tough maybe changing this to a pork chop with bone in would be a nicer cut, the pork belly on this dish was also under-cooked we felt the fat needed to be rendered down a lot more, I couldn't eat it. Overall our dinner was a nice experience and our waiter did ask us what we thought, I think this is great to take on our feedback. Would recommend to others, amazing cocktails!
R.
Young chefs Fraser & Shannon, have created a delightful little restaurant serving culinary masterpieces! The innovative food combinations using the freshest of in-season produce, are simply superb. Each dish is a beautifully presented and detailed with the ingredients explained by Shannon. For a special occasion meal you can't go past Lillius - every aspect of the experience was a delight. Highly recommended.
J.
The interior is so luxe and gorgeous. We did a 3 course menu with them (to celebrate an occasion), and it was amazing. The fish was perfectly cooked, just flaking apart nicely. And the beef was succulent and incredibly tender. My dessert had an interesting pairing of cumin ice cream with a heavenly slice of chocolate pumpkin tart, which balanced out very pleasantly! The service was impeccable. The staff were very pleasant, and they walked you thru each dish that was served, which really added to the whole dining experience. It was priced just perfectly. Loved it.
S.
Food and service was exceptional. 3 course menu allowed you choices and portions were generous. Really nice touch to have 2 additional starters. As good if not better than other fine dining restaurants I have been to of late. Definitely heading back there.
P.
Had lunch here just before Xmas for a chef's choice menu. The courses were delicious, and they catered well to pescatarian members of the group as well. The decor is sleek and the service was impeccable. Would highly recommend to anyone thinking of trying this place out.
K.
Stunning new Auckland restaurant. I had a truly fantastic 3 course lunch here for a work function. Everything we ate was truly incredible. The service was also amazing. This could be Auckland's best restaurant in the near future. Superb. Don't hesitate to give them a try.
D.
Fine dining that excited the palate. Pork was the best I have eaten and the desert really surprised. The kitchen was quiet and they worked hard but didn't intrude but we're enjoying creating a memorable experience! Can't wait to come back! Oh and the gorgeous service!!!!
A.
Lillius is an excellent addition to the Auckland dining scene. The fit out is exceptional with very comfortable seating and upmarket decor. The five course Sunday lunch was delicious and very different from standard fare. There is true magic going on in the kitchen. The service was extremely attentive. Lillius really is first rate.
N.
Took my partner to Lillius yesterday for our anniversary and had the five course degustation lunch - superb! Each course was a marvel of imagination and sublime flavours, and Shannon’s knowledge of the wines helped us with excellent choices. I loved the decor - the deep blue was as sumptuous as the food. We can’t wait to go back.
P.
I took my husband to dinner at Lillius last week and we had the five course degustation menu. You have no idea what you’ll be getting. The chef just sends out whatever he’s in the mood to make, based on the ingredients he has. It was SUPERB! At first we were joking that we were going to have to stop at KFC on the way home because we’d still be hungry, but by the end of the meal, I couldn’t have fit another thing in. The service was fantastic and the food was the best I’ve had in ages.
We loved the private little booth we sat in. It’s a perfect place for a romantic anniversary dinner or birthday, but there was also a table of 4 couples in there as well, so they cater for big or small groups.
Every dish was so delicious!
T.
Top class, I would recommend this place to anyone, beautiful food and great service
L.
Just enjoyed the Sunday 5 course degustation at Lilius! The restaurant is decorated beautifully. Service was exceptional and every meal was beautifully presented, diverse and delicious! Would recommend highly for anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Auckland!
K.
I love the food at Lillius, it's interesting, it's different and, more than anything, it tastes great! What's makes Lillius particularly special for us, is that they cater for vegans and vegetarians, and do so with aplomb. I will definitely be back!
M.
Great service, really interesting flavours and combinations. Generally a delicious food experience plus generous servings at a reasonable price for a fine dining experience - what’s not to love? Ps wife is pregnant and gluten free, easily catered to.
V.
Lillius surpassed all our expectations! Excellent service, a gastronomic feast combined with clean modern decor makes Lillius the perfect place to immerse in fine dining. Great job Shannon and Fraser! We will be back soon!
C.
Really enjoyed our dining experience here. Had the 5 course menu, food is superb, can taste every flavour. Ambience is good. Left really full. Worth the price.
P.
The atmosphere and decor of this place is fabulous, food was amazing and super friendly waiters. Great place for a birthday dinner (like us) and their gin was the best I've ever had in my life :)
J.
Staff are excellent and the room works well enough. The meals feel a little bit like trying at fine dining. It's close, and pretty good, but I think they need more time. I'll be interested to come back in six months and see where they've taken it.
L.
Beautiful food and great staff. All courses were delicious and the dessert was next level. Great stuff guys!
J.
Lillius demonstrates how fine dining should be done in New Zealand. From the beautiful fit-out embracing natural colours and textures to the Very approachable and knowledgeable Staff coaching us through the Chefs 5 course degustation with matching wines.
The combinations of flavours and local ingredients crafted together with love and perfection created a visual master piece for the eyes and satisfaction for the soul.
The winelist was very well thought out and personal which incorporated wines from NZ and abroad.
Overall an amazing experience, More kiwi's need to support family run businesses like Lillius as they are treasures to the hospitality industry and bring the benchmark to a new level for others to follow.
Looking forward to dining again soon
K.

(Translated) I went there on wedding anniversary with my husband. It's New Zealand cuisine with local foods and everything is great.Atmosphere and interior is comfortable and luxury, not too moody. The lady who serves food was friendly and professional.Chef was also nice. And of course the foods, I love all of them so much! I highly recommend this fine dine.
Atmosphere, decor, server, chef, food, everything was great. I ordered a 4-course set menu, but I am very satisfied with the quantity and quality because of Sourdough and Pre-desdert. It's a fine dining, but I'm glad that the interior is not too dark and unpretentious.
