Reviews of Mexican Cafe
L.
Came for happy hour 5-7pm (4-6 Friday and Saturday).
They have a nice selection of happy hour food and drinks all at really good prices. Good on the main menu seems to be slightly above average (but haven’t tried so don’t know the portion or quality).
Came for a light meal and was satisfied overall, you get what you paid for. Came with nachos on the house.
Spicy Beef Quesadilla:
Came with a medium sized tortilla with beef inside and dip. No side salad or anything. Was $7 so happy with what I got since I wasn’t feeling hungry.
Chicken Soft Shell Taco:
Came with small size taco shell. Basic ingredients that you would expect in a taco. Big size of filling (which is good!) but the ratio of filling to shell wasn’t good as it was difficult to eat. Cost $7
Devil Fries:
Loaded guacamole fries. Decent amount. Was $11 which is okay. Nicely seasoned.
Ambience in the terrace was really cute. Overall, was good, not mind blowing. Would come back again.
A.
Great Mexican restaurant/bar, had the deal with the Margaritas and can say it is excellent value for money, the food and drinks were great. We bought a litre of Sangria also and were very pleased with it. Highly recommend.
M.
The food is authentic and so delicious. The staff are so friendly
O.
First time eat Mexican food in Auckland, good food and good service as well
A.
Awesome Mexican food in the heart of Auckland. Cozy and warm inside despite the freezing cold outside. Ceviche was fresh and tasted great. My Fajita was nicely prepared and very filling. The waiting staff forgot a few things and some of drinks didn't turn up but at least the food was great.
A.
I had Jefe, which was basically a quesadilla, it was alright, definitely nothing like the one's that I had(much better) and their menu is overpriced.
R.
Very cheap and affordable and the portions they give for the price is huge. The food tastes great as well and there is a wide range of Mexican food to choose from in the menus. The free appetizer they give you at the beginning is a nice touch. The staff are also very nice to us when serving and when we are paying for the food. Will definitely go again.

Mexican cafe is an iconic Auckland restaurant and really famous one as well. It totally lives up to its reputation. The food is great. And the staff is lovey too. The menu is very wide and has loads of options to choose from. Love their $10 lunch specials. Great value for money. Also the cocktails are awesome. Must try this place if you are a fan of Mexican cuisine. Lots of activities here as well.
I.
Had an enjoyable experience in this restaurant. It is located on the second floor so take the narrow staircase up. The place is brightly decorated with pictures, paintings, photos and lots of colours. Food was of a good portion and they serve free chips and dip. Service was friendly as well. Overall, would recommend trying this place.
P.
Nice place. Warm and welcoming. Food wasn't worth it. Lasagna was dry and tasted old. I have been there quiet a few times and its always been good. But this time it was very disappointing. I wouldnt recommended. My friends didn't like their food either. Drinks were nice.
L.
An awesome Mexican diner. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The place had a great ambience, and food was absolutely delicious. Tried the Beef Burrito and Chili Con Carne, both of which were in the $10 lunch menu. Also ordered a passion fruit virgin margarita (non alcoholic) which was refreshing. The beef burrito was a hearty dish, full of meat, beans and cheese, and a side of tomatoes and lettuce to contrast. The Chili Con Carne was tasty and filling. Overall it was a delicious lunch and very affordable. Will definitely visit again.
L.
Food was amazing. Happy Hour between 5-7pm allows for great prices
Team catered to our orders well
G.
Oh how I've long missed sitting down at a Mexican joint and getting immediately served tortilla chips with salsa whilst a shameless frozen margarita gets sent my way just like being back home in the States. Getting the combination plate of a chicken enchilada + beef taco + rice + refried beans couldn't have been any better, especially the enchilada and rice. I feel ashamed that it's taken me 2 years to come here before, but now that it's only a few blocks from my new work, I'll definitely be back.
B.
Delicious food. Celebrated our son's 21st there Auckland Anniversary weekend. Shaskia was awesome.
O.
Don't get me wrong, the food here is spot on with an authenthic feel and great servings, but perhaps it was just the busy lunchtime madness we waited for nearly 40mins for 2 dishes to come out. The lack of follow up after being sat down may need to improve to bring in a well deserved 5 stars. Will still be back for the food here, hopeful it was a one off.
S.
This is one of best Mexican Restaurant I ever had the food at Auckland. I had tasted most of the items and everyone were tasty and delicious. A must visit restaurant for Mexican food lovers..
C.
Great, authentic Mexican cuisine! Started with homemade complementary tortilla chips and salsa. Margaritas were tasty addition to the feeling of sitting in a traditional, south of the border restaurant!
All the food was tasty. Chimichanga is always a favourite!
R.
I have been here so many times to count it's not funny but I enjoy it every time. This time is the same. I ordered the taco salad with beef, cheese dip and chips and a large lemon, lime and bitters. Thanks Mexican Cafe once again you never fail to deliver.
#.
Food is good, slightly pricy but totally worth as it is filling, tastes good and with good service. Atmosphere is a little loud when we went (sat night) however. Seems very authentic and good for a Mexican fix!!
Update: Went again on New Years Eve and loved it - Plenty of Vege options and had a great view outdoors! Would come back again!
p.
Location of the restaurant is very good. We ordered chicken quesadilla, chicken nachos and virgin Margarita. It was good and price is less as per quantity of food. Must try.
A.
This place has been on my list to visit and try out for a long time, but I must say I was hugely disappointed. We booked via First Table and I had to explain the conditions to the very confused wait staff which wasn’t a great start. The food was extremely bland and lacking flavour. The nachos were mushy underneath the layer of cheese and all we could taste was sour cream. The ceviche was average, and more of a salad than traditional ceviche. My chimichanga which should have been piping hot and crispy was lukewarm and soggy for the most part. My partner ordered the quesadilla, but as you can see from the photo, it was two tacos that had some plain chicken and cheese in the middle and folded in half. Not sure if it has always been like this, but it’s quite clear the chefs have no passion, as this isn’t traditional Mexican food. This was our first time here and unfortunately will also be our last.
S.
Went for lunch with my wife. Ordered Burrito and the lasagna. Both vegetarian. Taste wise quite ok. Disappointed with the beans served with Burrito. Quite blant for my liking plus it wasnt the dark colored beans which u generally associate with mexican food. Have been to much better tasting Mexican restaurants.
Ambience is quite good with good variety of food n drinks.
Not so sure about my 2nd visit.
P.
Summary: Go for the lively atmosphere and cheap lunch specials, but not if you're looking for legitimately good Mexican food.
Given the amazing reviews of this place, I was expecting a lot. Overall it was ok for dinner: prices were average, the food was ok (good but not the highest quality ingredients). Service was friendly but not super attentive. If you're looking for great Mexican food, I'd look elsewhere. But as social/drinking/happy hour spot, or for the cheap lunch specials, the other reviews certainly hold this place in high regard.
G.
Been here a few times now over the past few years and it's been good everytime I visit. The food has been great and staff are quite friendly. Restaurant can also be quite busy and noisy on Friday and Saturday night so I'd recommend dropping by on another day if you prefer a quiter atmosphere.
F.
A good location to socialize with friends, however, the food was mediocre. The staff was friendly and accommodating but at time it can get busy, so they would take a while to assist you. Our plates were a bit on the small end but pricy.
l.
* serving is fast
* lunch menu is good and reasonable price (lunch price $10, and combo is $15)
* balcony seat with nice view of sky tower
* complimentary water and nachos
* good quantity
* but staff need more smile on their face, they are bit rude.
P.
Nice and tidy place to visit after Pandemic.
Food very well cooked, could be more tasty.
But overall very pleasant evening for me.
M.
Great food & really cheap! You'll want to get 2-4 dishes per person dependant on appetite. My wife and I ate 5 dishes & had a jug of Coke for $35 total.
C.
Great Mexican Cuisine with a great view of CBD!! Love the Quesadilla. $10 lunch menu is highly recommended.
s.
Restaurant is setup with a mexican theme and it gives u that mexican vibes. Food is ok and they have wide variety of options for alco and non alco drinks.
J.
A simple but decent place to grab a bite to eat. Staff were generally friendly, prompt and attentive.
I ordered one of the Taco Salad Bowls for lunch, which came out very promptly. The salad itself was decent, though the chicken content was woefully inadequate - something like 3-4 pieces of shredded chicken for the entire dish. This was the only let down of the dish, however, and could easily be improved by being less stingy with the meat!
The bathroom does need some improvement. It was very cramped and the cubicles were missing window panes on the windows.
The complimentary corn chips and salsa dip was a very nice touch!
S.
On a road trip to Auckland for a few days we stopped here as it’s been in Auckland forever but I have never eaten here. Up the stairs and into a cool room, lots of atmosphere and it was a busy Friday night with good seating on the balcony. Just a shame the roadworks have blocked a lot of eateries and forced closure.Nice food , good service. Really nice to see the owner on site talking to customers.Nice guy.
S.
Great food.
Great service
Mean Margheritas!
Make sure you Hit this place at happy hour!
E.
My favourtie Mexican resturant in NZ. Reminds me of my local, growing up in California.
Recommend the Chimichanga or combo platters.
FYI, a jug of Margaritas is not a "jug/pitcher", it's a Mason jar.
C.
I hadn’t been here in 15 years. I used to love their food. Back then it was spot on, perfectly cooked and spiced Mexican. I entered with trepidation. 15 years is a long time. But BOOM. Everything is as perfect as it always was. Great taste, staff and vibe. The best Mexican west of San Diego. Do yourself a favour.
S.
A stones throw from the Sky Tower, this little bar and restaurant would probably go unnoticed in the melange of central Auckland where you are spoilt for choice. This has to be on your visit list! They stock a huge range of speciality tequilas and excellent bar staff know their cocktails inside out. Always busy, they serve great authentic Mexican food with spicyometre to suit every palate. They also stock Dos Equis!!!! Whether its quick lunch or a night out, stop by this gem and at least get a couple of mojitos down you!
N.
Great food and good service. Quite affordable
S.
Good service, food and drinks delivered to table pretty quickly. Food was amazing as always
D.
Beautiful view, friendly staff & great food. Highly recommended to get a margherita with your meal too.Thank you for a great evening. We will be back after Covid Level 3 is long done with 😁
A.
Great food at a great price. Highly recommend. Really nice food, especially the guacamole.
D.
I hadn't been to the Mexican Cafe for a couple of years... the food is not as good as it used to bed, it's actually a bit average and was a bit dissapointed ... service is still good, the place is nice and central, there's always some loud tipsy people but that's not the business fault. Some road works at the moment, so keep that in mind if you are planning to go during day time.
C.
Great range of food and drinks, great for groups and awesome vibe inside
A.
We arrived just on kitchen closing, we ordered very quickly and food was ready super fast and was superb! We had the burrito and the Fajeta plates. Both were fresh and tasty. The Bar was super friendly and quick with the drinks. As we sat and finished our dinner the restaurant turned into a bar for dancing with great music and an awesome atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting this place on a Friday night! Thanks team, we had a great night!
C.
Lovely hole in the wall Mexican place for reasonable prices. You get what you pay for authentic Mexican food however broccoli in burritos is strange. 4/5 good quality
i.
I think I found my favourite Mexican restaurant~ Delicious and affordable cocktails, nice food, $10 lunch meals~ Rooftop, view of skytower~
N.
Great food, great beer, great service and great atmosphere (even on a Wednesday evening!)
L.
Yummy this place is SUPER authentic, and SUPER cheap! you get these big portions for only $10 on the day/lunch menu, and on Wednesdays there's happy hour from 5-7pm, you can get $5 alcoholic drinks. It's dope, and always packed at night lel 😄
R.
Cosy cafe located upstairs from street level, with decent views of the CBD. Fairly popular on weekends.
Service is reasonably brisk, although staff seem a bit frazzled and occasionally make mistakes. The complementary salsa and corn chips were nice, though.
The Devils Nachos were served piping hot and surprisingly filling for their price - good quantity of beef and cheese, plus just the right amount of kick from the Jalapeno peppers. Also nicely accompanied by a Mango Virgin Margarita as part of the lunch combo.
Note: No wheelchair access, as it is upstairs. As an able-bodied person I could negotiate the steep stairs OK, but those with disabilities will unfortunately have to give this a miss.
A.
You'll be love this restaurant expecially you go at lunch time! Almost wad 10dollars and huge portion! Absolutely yammy!
B.
Friendly service and good value happy hour menu. Tasty food.
D.
Had the most enjoyabe lunch dining experience with the team I work with at this iconic restaurant. Our meal was fresh, substantial and delicious. The fresh juices and virgin margaritas are a 'must try'. Highly recommend!
O.
Honestly amazing. The food is great although the quality has decreased abit over the years. But it has amazing staff. If eating with people I recommend cheese dip for starters. It comes in a good portions and lots of choices for vegetarians.
M.
The food and drink here never fail! Huge variety of margaritas so you're sure to find one to love! As well as the food which is to notch, tasty and great value. Couldn't recommend enough if you're in the mood for Mexican!
C.
The food is good and I enjoyed the free nachos.
A.
Great atmosphere and "Impress-your-first-date" points bring the forgettable food to a 4. The staff are friendly, efficient and always eager to serve. Probably the only place that will let you act out your wild Mexican fuccboi fantasies complete with Sombrero and Tequila shot.
G.
What an amazing Mexican Cafe! The atmosphere here is brilliant. You feel like you've stepped into Mexico the moment you walk up the steps the the restaurant upstairs. Loved it.
P.
This bar sells the best tasting alcoholic drink I have had in my life. I first tasted the passion fruit margarita in 2016 and I've enjoyed it countless times since. I think about it at least once a fortnight.
R.
Good Restaurant Month deal. Flavours are excellent and good portion size.
V.
So friendly, I love the colourfull authentic buzz, such friendly staff, great recommendations. Very well priced plenty of choice. I went all around the viaduct and ended up coming back here every night I was in auckland. LOVED IT. My extended thanks to the friendly team, dont change anything!!
C.
Delicious food.. real mexican with a lot of options for vegetarians! I totally recomend it.. also a nice atmosphere, so bring your date ;)
S.
This was my very first time going to a Mexican Restaurant I'll definitely be going back again soon, I highly recommend this place A+++
P.
Very yummy food, nice drinks with a Mexican twist! Only reason they didn’t get 5 stars... service could have been a bit more attentive. Otherwise awesome.
A.
Love the decor and the staff are lovely. Menu is reasonably priced too. I am a regular here.
A.
Atmosphere is very loud and lively, so it would be a good space for a group of families or friends, not really couples. Sometimes the music was too loud, to even hear conversation. The food was good, I really enjoyed the salad. The enchiladas were a bit spicy but manageable.

Awesome place for Mexican food. Been there a few times with family and friends, everyone loves their food.
Their kids menu is great as well.
J.
Outstanding service, food and atmosphere. Definitely coming back.
P.
Had the best Mexican experience, the Food and Drinks were superbly made. Totally perfect Flavors. The atmosphere and Decor was Great for a night out , not forgetting the very polite helpful waiter's .. We will be back.. Thanks Bruce and Wai
E.
Good vegetarian options, once a week must visit for me.
R.
Everything is possible, Mexican Café is the first Mexican Restaurant in Auckland, New Zealand. 💪Strong 💪❤👏. Sweet, oh so sweet. Perfect 🥰. Dancing on table top. 1983 in the little shop, perfect.
N.
Love the cheese dip and they give unlimited chips with your dip. Very cool place to hang out for after work drinks.
H.
First of all I LOVE Mexican food. I love this place, location, decor, atmosphere and loved the happy hour and free chips and dip because I'm cheap. The flavours were sooo good, fresh and intense.
A.
Nice place with yummy drinks and quite good food. When they have the salsa night, the place is so packed with people. And if you want to go to the salsa night, better be there early as the bouncer is very annoying.
K.
Food was great. I had the steak which was super tasty and cooked perfectly (medium rare - juicy and tender and blushing). Service was a bit slow, but it was 3pm and not a lot of staff. Not a problem, just wish I had gotten my Margherita a little quicker. :-)
M.
Great food, friendly and efficient staff. Awesome atmosphere.
t.
Good food, refreshing drinks and reasonably priced
J.
Great food and staff but didn't like the rule around the payments where only one payment is accepted per table. Otherwise it would have been five star.
E.
Friendly owner and great place for happy hour
D.
We went twice , we really enjoy the atmosphere , ambience food and service, they really looked after us , very functional and busy place , nice to meet the owner that helped us to enjoy the experience , we will back , thanks to Bruce + team
S.
Service was great, very friendly staff, the food packed allot of good flavors and the drinks were also amazing, the staff were always asking how everything is going, I would give 5 stars, the one down fall was the bartender behind the bar with the glasses, gave me some real bad attitude for just asking to add a drink on to our order, and I heard him talking in a nagative way about another customer. Besides that one guy everything was great.
C.
We love the food here. Our recent visit, our nachos just took a bit longer to be served but otherwise we are still happy with our nachos!!😊
B.
When I arrived there was only 2 other people in the restaurant, was seated within a minute or two on the outside deck, which was warm enough (it was a fairly windy and cold day). I received chips and salsa to get me through until my meal which were the standard chips that every latin-style restaurant use which are out of a bag. The salsa was good.
I ordered the Plato Grande, which came out within about 5 minutes, and was informed to be cautious as the plate was very hot. While yes, the plate was hot, the food was immediately able to be eaten as if it was left to set for a minute or two before serving, which was nice.
Despite it's name, there really wasn't much food on the plate and I finished within a few minutes. The food wasn't particularly tasty or extraordinary in any way. It was pretty bland and tasteless. The prices seem fairly high for the quality of food.
I was indifferent to the experience. Nothing really stuck out or was particularly enjoyable about the restaurant as a whole
H.
Absolutely fantastic place!
The ambience is good. Staff are very very friendly.
They offer free corn chips with a tomato dip while you wait for your order is getting prepared.
They have a big list of drinks as well. Love the mock tails.
Whether you are a light eater or a food lover, you have options to choose from their menu.
10$ lunch special is a pretty good deal.
Visiting on a Friday evening, do expect a wait time.
Despite having a busy busy time with restaurant full of people, the food quality wasn’t compromised. That was a surprise and we were delighted to have good food every time we visited.
You guys are doing a great job. Keep rocking guys!!
D.
It's a beautiful location. The vibe & atmosphere is pleasant. The prices are great.
However; I found there were a couple of issues. The waitress who was tending to us yesterday appeared to wish she was anywhere but there. She was exceptionally impatient with us.
The food, on the whole, appears to be of rather low quality. It surprised me that the Mexico franchise has them beaten in that department.
D.
They have a really great lunch specials menu but if you're in a hurry don't bother. The food itself was actually really good, got the seafood chowder and beef burrito but we were ignored a few times by the numerous waiters that went past us. It took a while for anyone to take our order and then even longer for the food to actually come out. I'd say the whole restaurant was only half full at the time.
S.
ONE OF THE BEST MEXICAN PLACES IN AUCKLAND!!
One of the best places in Mexican places in Auckland. Huge selection of various Margaritas and Tequilas and delicious authentic mexican food. Outside seating provides a fantastic view of the Sky Tower. absolutely phenomenal. Highly Recommend it
M.
We had a happy lunch time there 🇲🇽
The food was tasty and full me up !!!
Thank you ! I will be there again !
A.
Good price for plenty of food, bit you will still pay the extras, because of their range of amazing drinks. Fresh juice sangria brought my memories back to Spain. Not your sexy date cocktail place, but definitely a lunch or family dinner place.
K.
Great Mexican Cuisine with a great view of CBD!! Love the Quesadilla. $10 lunch menu is highly recommended.
Some of the table old and may be need a proper clean.
n.
It's been going for decades and there's a good reason why. Good food and excellent drinks menu.
H.
Great food, served quite quickly but it was hard to know who was serving us at the start. We just sat there for a while until we finally called someone over to get us drinks. Overall very nice food and drinks though.
A.
Friendly, authentic, great food at very reasonable prices - and great music!
Also lots of fun on a Friday night, when the local salsa crowd descend on this place to dance 'til late as they drift out of the classes and clubs around town.
F.
Some of the staff are friendly and do good service! We Ordered both chicken and beef nachos very dry and could do with some salsa. Tried most of the Margaritas very weak like drinking a kids drink so could maybe do with some more alcohol. Otherwise nice place to go if could work on those two things oh and the ladies with the dark hair that work on the counter and taking people to a table could work on their smiles and nicer attitudes they are free :)
P.
Good deals $ Whenever in Auckland we eat here. Lunch deals and Happy Hour deals are worth taking advantage of. Consistent in their food and the staff service over the six years we have been coming. Overall nice atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming staff. So this makes me a little confused of some the previous reviews that are a little critical.Your own experience will dictate whether you like this place overall or not I guess .... so I recommend giving it a go!
L.
Nice dance area. It has all the good decorations of a Mexican restaurant. The food is tasty however could use a bit more spice. They do have this really tasty Mexican beer pacifico. The margaritas are good.
K.
Lovely atmosphere but a little bit noisy. The non-alcoholic margaritas are delicious 🍹 Average food per $10. So it's worth it.
C.
If you want Margaritas with a side of food then this is your place! Wonderful staff - overworked but quick and very entertaining. Love the food too...when I remember what I had😂
W.
Mexican Cafe has never disappointed when it comes to cheap, tasty Mexican food that is authentic. Their service is above and beyond and they even went so far as to stay open to host a table of 20 that I had! I have been here many times before and will definitely be coming again!! (P.S - definitely get the chicken nachos or the cheese dip. They are both so yum!!)
m.
Excellent service, good food and good value. A convivial establishment, will visit again.
E.
This place has the best Mexican food I have ever tasted. Friendly staff, fair prices. Love this place. Good music too. Keep in mind it is rarely sometimes closed for private use. It's only happened to me once out of many times going there. Don't let it stop you. Very authentic looking place, makes you feel like your in Mexico!
A.
Nice food at a good price. Friendly fast service.
R.
Lovely lively ambience. Good food, handled our large group booking well (12 people). Great bar tender, banter for days. Fantastic margaritas, and countless other drinks available. Beautiful.
K.
I enjoyed getting to try this place. It had been recommended to me by several people. It was really nice, we sat out on the balcony and there was a great Mexican vibe. We went for lunch and I got their taco salad off of the $10 lunch menu. It was very tasty, but disappointing that the "beef" with just mincemeat. My husband got a chicken quesadilla, which he said was delicious but lacked in the chicken part.
I really love Mexican food, and this place was nice but I'm not sure how quickly I'd go rushing back.
J.
LOVE this place. Excellent customer service, reasonably priced meals and wicked vibe. Food was delicious too.
R.
Food was amazing as always. Have been there multiple times, everytime love it. Look forward to go again sometime in future.
C.
The food is good and good non alcoholic drinks. I hope they get more people for lunch because is a great place for work meetings

(26/02/2016)
Friendly staff and good service.
Food was delicious. Loved special nachos. One of the best lemon-lime-bitter I had in long time.
Will prefer their rooftop outdoor seating any day over indoor one.
Little unorganised, always busy and quite noisy but probably a likable feature for an informal place like this one.
Good for groups.

Was an average experience. Good food and service.
Having been to other good Mexican restaurants in city, it didn't appeal that much despite being situated at the heart of the city.
C.
Mexican Cafe is undoubtedly one of my favorite spots as a young student when I'm desperate for a beautiful, cheap meal. The range of meals is excellent, and you can't go past a hearty $10 lunch with an awesome selection to choose from. Love it here, been many times and many more to come I'm sure!
M.
What a lovely place in the center of auckland's heart. Very close to sky tower and very beautiful view from the balcony.
The food is very delivious and can certainly be the second choice for indian food lovers.
The options for drink are numerous..
Highly recommended place.
F.
Drinks service was a bit slow, but the food came out quickly and was delicious! Thanks Dean for being a legend of a waiter and chasing the drinks and food up to make sure we got the nest service possible after our initial, slow drink order. We will be back. Would recommend to a friend 👍
A.
Usually pretty good but my last time there was a huge let down. Staff were rude even though it was quiet and they didn't appear busy, and it took far too long to place an order.
EDIT - Revising from 3 to 5 star after an absolutely stellar experience. Everything was delicious, incredible customer service, and much lower wait times even though the place was packed! I must've gone on a bad day last time! Will visit again soon to see if the quality is the same
D.
Has a nice open seating area also with a balcony. Has a good selection of food, with options in beef, chicken, and vegetarian. A wide range of beverages to choose from. (From alcoholic to non-alcoholic). They also offered a lunch deal at $10 which a filling/ satisfying portion of food. Staff were friendly and even as a group of 7, we did not have to wait long to be seated. For groups of 5 or less, they also allow you to split the bill. A great place for Mexican food.
m.
Love the music....I'd go there just for the music.....🎵😍🤷
The food is good tried the devil Nacho's however I thought that the quantity has reduced overtime for the amount we pay for it.... Found that a bit ridiculous.
The food was good though. I love the fact that they serve nachos with a salsa dip while you wait for the food. ✌️the service was really good too...staff are cheerful and so warm hearted.
All in all I would recommend going here for the amazing ambiance.
Ppsssttt: They have Friday salsa nights! 💃💃💃🎵😍💃💃
A.
Great busy place good Customer Service
Will be back again. We had table for three last night. Food came quickly and tasted brilliant. Also the Nachos at the first with Salsa was pretty amazing too.
R.
I love mexican food so visiting Auckland, I searched out this place. You don't know what to expect as the cafe is above another building so it's up a flight of stairs. There were quite a few people in the place when I arrived on a Monday evening. I ordered Enchiladas as it is one of my favourites. I would probably give it a 5 out of 10. Certainly nothing special. No idea what the bright orange sauce was on top. Certainly no salsa that I have ever seen. Overall it tasted bland. Not a lot of spice to it. The most tastiest was the refried beans.
S.
The vibe was great on a Friday night and the staff were reasonable friendly.
If you like Tequila then this is the place to go...they have so many different different kinds! Also had salsa lessons later on in the evening.
N.
I've been coming here for years and I've never been disappointed. The food is inexpensive and you'll always get a huge serving- and the frozen margaritas are DELICIOUS. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, easy access bathrooms, family sized dinner tables and amazing staff. They even offer free salsa dance classes if you visit later in the night!
S.
Awesome authentic Mexican restaurant and bar. Great staff, cheap simple Mexican food and heaps of tequila. What more could you want. I go here every time I'm in Auckland and never disappointed. Expect it to always be busy and noisey. But hey that's all part of the charm.
T.
The food is a bit bland, but they have excellent service, delicious margaritas, and a great atmosphere.
P.
Best mexican food in the city.....
This has been always my favourite place. Going to this place since last 12 years. Earlier we used to go here in weekend nights. It was lots of fun with friends. We were enjoying live dances. The food is awesome all the time. It is nice that I started working in the city since last 3 years and I love the lunch menus. Almost all Fridays I with friends sneak there. I always suggested this restaurant if there is any team lunch is planned. Nice food nice people.
P.
Good Mexican food 👌
c.
Stopped in for the margarita happy hour ended up having a meal which was yummy az and they gave us some complimentary nachos with salsa which im sure the nachos tasted homemade, the pineapple margaritas was to die for.we will definitely be back.
A.
Large servings, affordable, cheerful, authentic Mexican food. By modern spicy Mexican standards, this means it's a bit bland.
Annoying lack of hot sauce or salsas at the table and noisy, and sometimes the wait staff are a little overwhelmed. Good for a cheap night out with mates ( and an amazing range of tequila!), but if you want fancy Mexican food, look elsewhere.
S.
An ok food was expensive for this kind of food
C.
I love that this place is still here after all these years! I had the vegetarian nachos, same dish that I used to order 28 years ago, and it was as good as I remembered. The decor is perfect too - very cool.
A.
Always a great time at my fave spot! Great food and great atmosphere 🍹
C.
Very good! Great happy hour! They lose one star for not warming my soft taco shell, it was raw out of the bag, not appealing! Otherwise delicious!
G.
Went here to celebrate and had an amazing time
It's upstairs : when you enter you immediately go up the stairs , no choice . And you can sit outside or in a very interesting room . Most things are mild , and I'd recommend the pizza ! It's awesome .
You can also get alcoholic drinks ! And they are so fancy .
a.
It's ok. Good value for money but nothing outstanding. Food needs better seasoning as tends to be on the bland side. Sit upstairs as they have a open air seating area and it's good to eat and watch the world go by. Staff are efficient but wouldn't say friendly. Good lunch special for only $ 10.00 well worth the money.
P.
The staff is great, but food is clearly not as good as it used to be! I used to always go there with any friends, but now that's twice in a row that I found the meal not worth it. Happy hours are great though!
K.
Good Mexican restaurant with an extensive tequila menu. Food menu has many of the usual selections with some house specials. The ceviche is a favourite. Unusually for this sort of place the food was a little under salted but that was easily fixed for those that want to add some at the table
M.
The service was good. He forgot a bunch of stuff but was honest and sweet about it. If you're looking for authentic mexican food, this is not the place. It was good but had a bunch of lettuce and mayonnaise. The margaritas were so weak that we had to order extra shots and mix them in. The atmosphere was ok. Couldn't hear the latin music.
J.
Amazing food and unique balcony atmosphere. Had one of the best Burritos and Quesadillas in Auckland. They ran out of desserts but the waitress was kind to suggest multiple alternatives. Highly recommended!
R.
Good location and reasonable pricing - used to go there all the time for happy hours and sometimes for dinner. You can sit outside and watch the world go by. Food is okay.
N.
It was my first time going to this restaurant I had really high hopes but sadly they were brought down. The 3 of us ordered different things but they all tastes the same and had the same flavour. It was boring. The drinks however are very good so I raised the stars. Definitely would not go again for the food but the drinks are worth it
N.
Amazing food with good music
G.
If you want loud and fun then this is the place. Food was great, service fine, but the Margarita was not so good. Great to have a free plate of corn chips with dip, just like the U.S.
t.
If your from the States and are used to good Mexican food and great Margaritas...dont go here. You'll be disappointed. The vibe is good and the service is good. I'm just disappointed every time I convince myself to give them another go.
N.
Always such a great place to go, for late night drinks and eats - and we enjoyed doing a bit of dancing too! The free dance lessons are a great way to learn, and it's very easy to get up and start dancing! Can't wait to go back.
L.
This was our regular lunch/dinner spot when we frequented Auckland a many years ago, and we came back recently to find it was still the great cafe it was originally. The food is delicious, and the free corn chips to compensate for the wait when busy is always great. Deserts are nice, and the seating on the deck alongside the road is popular.
K.
Great place, excellent ambience, and the margaritas are to die for. Strong recommend the double barrel if you are looking for a good kick!
J.
I totally love Mexican so it's a refreshing surprise to find a place that ticks all the boxes. Good food, good service and a pleasant place to eat. Thanks.
R.
A great spot above the foot traffic on Victoria Road. Fantastic prices for a central City eatery. Food came out very quickly and was pleasing. Based on the location and size I would suggest that it probably wouldn't suit little children, especially if strollers etc are involved.
K.
Lovely food and service was excellent. Come here everytime I come to Auckland. Highly recommend
S.
Mexican Cafe is undoubtedly one of my favorite spot. The range of meals is excellent, and you can't go past a hearty $10 lunch with an awesome selection to choose from. Love it here.
A.
Lunch menu is quite economical. The spice level is enjoyable.
Unique delicacies to enjoy
P.
Came here for lunch. Friendly staff. Food was excellent from the price, especially with their $10 lunch deals offered. Portion sizes are excellent as well. Have been to better Mexican restaurants that are better, but this is differently not the worst.
D.
Good atmosphere and venue. Food is decent for the value and not at all bad, however I've yet to find Mexican food in NZ as good as I had even in the UK which is frustrating.
M.
Lots of vegetarian options!
Great Staff who are very attentive to your needs.
Authentic Mexican Ambiance with a lot of memorabilia all around.
I love the complimentary bowl of Nachos and Salsa to keep you munching till your order arrives.
Lots of options for the $10 Lunch menu and you can add a fresh juice for an additional $5.
My friend loved the vegetarian mexican lasagna.
My Devil Nachos were top notch as always and a very decent quantity for the price! The fruit juice was very refreshing!
Wish they had Paywave to speed up paying individually.
C.
Mexican Cafe is great! $10.00 lunch deal and they are a really great size full of flavor. When you arrive they give you complimentary salsa and corn chips which I thought was great. Always great atmosphere and staff are fantastic too.
J.
Literally one of the best plates of nachos i've had in my life, possible to have each chip covered in topics rather than a congealed mass of cheese like so many other places. Great flavours, great value
V.
This is the best Mexican food in all of New Zealand. I've been in this country for over ten months, endlessly pining for the delicious Mexican restaurant fare I grew up on in the southwestern U.S. Sadly, every purveyor of Mexican cuisine whose wares I've sampled in New Zealand has missed the mark in one way or another. But Mexican Cafe is different: an oasis for margarita enthusiasts, flauta fanatics, and burrito devotees in a land otherwise bereft of such quality comestibles. I would eat here anytime, anywhere. Take my advice and get the nachos.
R.
Takeaway food was average. Fajitas was a good portion in principle but only received 2 small tortilla wraps. Overpriced menu for takeaway
B.
Luv this place. Always festive atmosphere. Great food and the best frozen margaritas. Good service too
A.
The food is great! But you wouldn't fully enjoy it because it's too loud and they've put tables and chairs on every inch of the restaurant, so you just need to move your chair for every person who needs to pass.
H.
Great outside area. Lunch deals are great value for money but they have made the nacho portion size smaller. Staff are friendly and music is good.
P.
Always one of my favourite places to eat in Auckland since there hasn't been a Mexican Cafe in Christchurch since the earthquakes. Food is consistently tasty and good value. Staff are friendly and the tables on balcony are covered, so you can dine in the fresh air even if the weather is changeable, as it often is in Auckland.
N.
Still pretty good, they have an extensive "cheap eats" menu which was great for us as we were short on time and had a toddler with us. Was a bit surprised to see a D food grade but I guess that adds to the flavour ;)
L.
As always a great Mexican offer when in Auckland. The presentation could do with some work but the taste is great and its good value. I have been going there for 20 odd years and its always on my to do list when in Auckland.
N.
One of the original Mexican places in Auckland, it's been around for 30 years, and is still a vibrant and hopping atmosphere. No a/c but there is (limited) outdoor seating on the balcony, and the side room has a couple tables adjecent to the open windows, plus high ceilings and fans keep the air moving. Great margaritas on the rocks (there are tragic ones to be had in many places in Auckland, so this is saying something!) and food of reasonable calibre. If you're looking for top notch food go elsewhere but if you're after a fun and relaxed summer hangout head here!
M.
Went for lunch. Service was good and food came out at a good time. Chicken fajitas were really good 👍
B.
Great fun place with fantastic food and margaritas. Might be a little noisy for some but didn't bother us.
C.
Great sweetcorn for a big group, great prices. And the margaritas..... awesome.
C.
The best & most authentic Mexican food I've had in my 4 months so far in New Zealand. Great $10 lunch deals with heaps of food, complimentary bowl of chips & salsa. Margaritas were on point as well. 10/10 highly recommended spot to eat AND it's directly across from the Sky Tower.
S.
$10 lunch deal is super good value. Great food, great service. No complaints
R.
Nice venue for dancing and socialising. Friday nights are best with DJ Raul playing some nice Latin beats. The bartenders are super friendly and make some mean cocktails.
Definitely visit the place if you are looking for a late night out.
W.
My favourite restaurant, and a gem in the city. The Devils Nachos are the best in Auckland, and the staff are the friendliest I've come across. I try to eat at the Mexican Cafe at least once a month, and have immensely enjoyed every evening I've spent there. Cannot rate them high enough!
S.
Friendly helpful staff, no issues there. The food only just average Mexican style food but with no fire to it which I was disappointed by as the food is supposed to contain Jalapeno peppers. My biggest disappointment was without doubt the Jug of Margherita I bought for $23.00! not only was it the tiniest jug I have ever seen but it tasted like an ice slushy without any flavour! I tasted no alcohol whatsoever and the peach flavouring was so weak as to be almost non existent. I was with my wife and did not want to ruin our evening by complaining so I said nothing but now wish I had.
The decor is authentic, by that I mean it does definitely resemble a genuine Mexican cafe inside, a bit rough and grubby. I have spent some time in Mexico so speak from experience.
M.
Happy hour from 5pm-7pm well worth it. The food is amazing, delicious food valve for money order 3+ dishes under $20. Highly recommend this place
J.
Bartenders made it worth the while. Management just needs to figure out out to run a restaurant. Buy a drink, pay the bartender. Order food, pay up front. One tab should be enough. Food was good-just like home. (I'm from SoCal)
S.
Fantastic food but service very average, we were never asked if we wanted drinks or dessert! Your loss :(
K.
This busy restaurant offers an array of great tasting Mexican dishes, including cheap Margarita jugs. They also offer an extensive $10 lunch menu. The food arrives very speedily to the table if you're on your work lunch break.
Due to the busyness, the line to pay is often ridiculous.
L.
Our favourite Mexican restaurant in Auckland. We come here every time and get the queso, enchiladas, and fajitas. And several jugs of margaritas! Delicious every time.
A.
Great place to go during happy hour on Friday and for dancing. Otherwise the food is quite bland and most of the margaritas aren't that nice. Do enjoy the passionfruit margaritas though.
A.
Food was Bland this time around Perhaps the old chef is not there anymore? I have been here before and it was always good
K.
Food has always been pretty good when I've been there. Not massive portions though for the price. Staff generally very pleasant. The decor is obviously aiming for an authentic feel - classy it ain't!
G.
It's OK for cheap after work drinks, staff is nice. Haven't had food there. Young international guests, backpacker atmosphere.
I.
The food is very delicious and priced very well. Staff are awesome and welcoming.
R.
Great experience and very friendly and cheerful staff. Loved my first time experience at this cafe. Food definitely worth it. The drinks....brilliant. Had the “caroliner reaper” drink 🌶
C.
Four of us all really enjoyed our meals. Generous portions.
M.
Excellent food. Great lunch deals
J.
Cool atmosphere, yum margaritas & great food. Will definitely be back!
A.
Really really good food and great value, only reason it's not 5 stars is because one of the barmen was very rude to my group
A.
There's a reason why the Mexican Cafe has been around for so long. It's just that good. The only down side is that it's upstairs. Watch how much you drink so you can avoid a trip-quila surprise as you leave.
T.
Nice place to have drinks with friends.
M.
Price was good, food was average. It will need to improve before I go back.
J.
This place is normally our go to when we are in Auckland. This last visit was ridiculous. We sat for 20mins, ignored by the staff. Everyone was unfriendly. Bad experience. We ended up leaving before finishing our meals.
J.
Excellent service. Awesome Christmas party with set menu. So much food!!!! Great margaritas too
L.
Food and service were quite good well priced and at a good pace.
a.
Cool atmosphere great food
R.
Great food, nice atmosphere. Very generous portions, I had the King Burrito and would thoroughly recommend.
L.
Once you've been transported through the colorful stairway you arrive in Mexico. Vibes, music, staff - all exceptional. Who needs to break the bank on expensive trips to South America? Roll up at 5-7pm, sit on the luscious balcony overlooking Auckland City - and enjoy a margarita jug (or three). Bring your friends, bring your mum, but most of all - bring your positive vibes to this bustling Mexican melting pot in the heart of the cbd. Hola!
R.
Best Mexican in NZ. Not only is the food great, but so is the environment and staff. Highly recommend the chicken nachos as an appetizer or as a whole meal.
W.
This the best Mexican restaurant in NZ. The food is awesome its well priced and great value. Service is on point too. There is not anything negative I can say, its all goooooood.
S.
Throughly enjoyed lunch here. Excellent little restaurant. Food was perfect, staff friendly, courteous and efficient. I would recomend this place for both the food and ambience. What a good find!
M.
Nice bar with a huge range of drinks. Food was typical Mexican family restaurant style which is better than most other Mexican places. Good cheap and filling, just like it should be.
A.
Sometimes it gets so busy and some customers are not treated equally. Food is alright. Value is good on the 10 dollar lunch. Still misses a lot on real Mexican food
D.
Very nice tapas, music late at night was good to dance salsa and the atmosphere was amazing. The 'NZ's arguably biggest tequila list' is not that great, Mexico Britomart has got mor options and a better selection.
A cozy place to spend good times with friends
R.
Best Mexican restaurant I have been to in NZ. Classic enchiladas with rice and refried beans. They don’t try to jazz it up with exotic substitutions like some other places.
L.
It’s good
C.
Great menu selection, price & attempt bringing Mexican cuisine & experience to NZ. Chips & salsa on arrival, cheap-ish margaritas & tequila selection, all positives. Not a place to be missed. All they need now is some queso!
J.
Best Mexican food reasonable prices love the extra special nachos the large is really large cant eat it all usually
C.
Listen if you want good Mexican go to Mexico or Texas. If you're craving the TexMex from the States and open to a Southern Hemisphere alternative because it's been a long time since you've been home, consider the Mexican Cafe. I tried the enchiladas and I was impressed by the sauce. It was a good go for a kiwi restaurant impersonating Tex-Mexico. The flan was the best flan I've had in my life. It lacked the sponge like texture most flan has in the US and the flavor was just right. In fact the flan earned the extra star.
This is the best impression Auckland has and if you're missing home it will do in a pinch.
C.
Had a great night here, larger group of us and we were well served. Staff were friendly and helpful. Enjoyed drinking margaritas during their happy hour.
A.
Cheap eats and good atmosphere, reccommend the happy hour! Cheap nachos and margaritas, can't go wrong
N.
Love the atmosphere!! they make amazing cocktails and the food is really fresh, great place to eat when staying at SkyCity 💛💛
A.
Amazing food and friendly staff! As a Brazilian, food is incredibly nostalgic and they make the perfect caipirinhas!
Definitely recommend!
H.
Had a great night out with the go. We had time constraints and they managed to serve us quickly. The drinks were also pretty good. Would go back again.
J.
Food was just ok. Not a lot of flavor. We were so hungry that we ate it anyway 😂
A.
The service was great - one of the waiters accommodated our ten person crew and was very friendly. The food was also excellent and reasonably priced for the quality!
C.
I'd say, this cafe is average, the food is good but not a awesome, the price is affordable enough but although the waiters were very friendly and kind, the cashier was terrible, her customer services is so bad.
however the place is nice and confortable but as I mentioned, my rating would be quite average.
A.
Had a fab meal here, tacos and margaritas. Was lovely not to be rushed, despite being a solo diner. Server was SUPER helpful. Great place.
T.
Top service, great décor, perfect food. Every time.
K.
Cheap food for what you get has stuck to it's roots in that area for even my parents used to come here for a cheap meal!! Good atmosphere however always seems crowded
D.
Great food and staff but didn't like the rule around the payments where only one payment is accepted per table. Otherwise it would have been five star.
s.
Blew my mind! Service was nice and food was on point. Great place to come
D.
Best place for Mexican food, quick, amazingly delicious and I always know it will be great! Can't go wrong with a maragarita or three... also have the widest range of tequila!
P.
Fantastic service. The maitre d was very friendly.
I had the king burrito and it was probably the best one I've ever had.
Tasty cocktails.
A.
Cool bar cheap food and drink with band play at night.small but with a lot of character
M.
The food was not as flavourful as I expected
E.
Always amazing. Happy hour deals are great for food and drink! Cheese dip is a must
T.
Dj king 🤴was playing primo sounds great night 🌙 out great staff really good atmosphere .
E.
By far the best place to get authentic Mexican food in NZ. The staff is lovely as well 😊
a.
Great place to try some salsa! Good service, friendly people. Music was too loud, I mean doesn't feel like it's coming from quality speakers.
S.
Food was great but the service was poor...had to ask for little things like more napkins, salsa, etc. Also no free refills on tortilla chips, or soft drinks.
E.
Well the place is pretty nice and mexican. Food is average for a mexican, however the atmosphere is really nice, and ideal to have few drinks before heading out. Worth to go, and overall good feeling.
R.
Great happy hour specials, food is awesome, staff are brilliant. The cheese dip is heaven in a bowl 😍 Love this place!
J.
Average food.
Also, L&P doesn't belong in a Mojito. Big ups to the young bartender who obviously didn't have the support or training required to make cocktails.
P.
Great food and awesome people. Very recommended by me and i will be coming back and tell all my friends and customers and of course family. Keep up the great work guys. :) 5 Star service :)))
J.
Lovely place in all regards. It's not really that good for big groups as the place is quite small. But I guess you could say that's a "feature". Mm, all in all very satisfied.
R.
It was very yummy. The original margarita was super delicious. Thanks 👍👍👍👍
Z.
Love Mexican Cafe, have been going here for 20 years. Love the atmosphere, the pricing is very reasonable. Food is devine. Keep up the good work.
A.
One of my fav eating places. Cheerful, colourful, reasonable prices, great staff, and great food and drinks. Totally recommend!
J.
Food is delicious and staff are attentive. Get the jug of Black Plum and Cinnamon so freakin good! Oh, leave room for Churros - so very worth it!
C.
Nice atmosphere and great drinks. Quality of food and service seems to have slipped over the past six months quite heavily.
A.
Prawn taco was average, Margarita on the Rocks was below average.
Q.
Nice environment, special combo is only $15 with a drink, good taste too!
L.
I worked here 20 years ago! Visited again last week and it's still authentically the same. A great landmark Auckland restaurant 🙌
J.
The best Mexican in New Zealand (or best that this American has found). The Margaritas, Nachos and Caso are why we go, but the mains are good too.
M.
Cool vibe,m great cocktails but took forever for hem to come over and take our order so we ended up leaving. as we had limited time.
T.
Amazing food and great prices. Margaritas are off the chain goooooood
M.
Cosy, charming, and Mexican style right in the heart of CBD.
I love the menu and the food taste is great.
C.
Good food, friendly service, great prices. Happy hour, 5-7, is even better value.
T.
Had an awesome meal and margaritas with Wife. Nice atmosphere. Loved the scallop soft taco and the enchiladas were bute!
M.
Was a Awsome place I got enchiladas my partner got salmon dish she really liked it mine was really bland and didn’t have flavour like I expeceted it to have staff and great and help full and supper nice
P.
Great atmosphere and the drinks are good, but service could be a bit better and its definitely pricey for the quality. It's ok - 3 stars
G.
Quite a lot of cheese on our food and didn't expect it so would recommend toning cheese quantity down on food. Location and atmosphere is great.
C.
Love this place. I always make sure I go for a meal every time I’m in Auckland.
の.
Lunch memue are wonderful for its taste
And low price !! You can enjoy with Just $10 !!
I'm sure I recommend you Mexican Cafe for Lunch!! Please visit and taste them!!
M.
Great food and service.
V.
Best Mexican food in Auckland City. Superb service and very good cocktails
M.
Lively, busy, authentic Mexican dishes in the heart of the CBD.
Stones throw from the Sky Tower.
p.
Great food, staff, value and atmosphere, has to be one of the worlds best Mexican restaurants outside Mexico. Still can’t bet the Enchuladas in Sahauyo though
J.
Great selection of food at a reasonable price. Lively atmosphere and attentive staff. Highly recommend.
A.
Although booking was not possible for small groups, they made good effort to find us a table as quickly as possible. The place can be a bit noisy but the food is great.
L.
Food is delicious. Happy hour is worthed. Service is pretty good. Just hard to find parking nearby.
L.
Awesome service and friendly staff. Only real compliant is the amount of food doesn't reflect the price very well compared to most other city restaurants.
K.
Food and drinks were as good as ever but the wait for our meals wasn't good.
P.
Great food. Happy hour specials are totally worth it. Staff are so helpful
S.
Nice spot, cosy place, goos service.
You might need to have reservation if you want to wit in a terace.
A.
Great food and service as usual. Well done Mexican cafe for maintaining your standards.
J.
Gorgeous little nook upstairs eatery, authentic Mexican feel, friendly staff, quick orders, great margaritas - happy hour 5-7pm!
P.
Service was very slow and on a quiet night. Food good though
M.
They have really cheap, filling options for lunch. Busy, loud, and a bit run down, this is nevertheless a good place for food. Dunno how authentic the food is but it tastes alright.
W.
Good food, but kind of different going to a Mexican food place and having them not know about some types of Mexican food and desserts.
S.
Wow. What a find. Well worth the visit. Will be back again soon. The grand burrito is 1pound of pure taste.
C.
Good size menu, the food is not spicy so bring your habanero sauce if you like it hot.
G.
Great food, a bit disappointed with the size of the Margarita jugs for the price, the right cocktail glasses with a salted rim wouldn't go a miss - I've worked in hospo presentation is everything
R.
Plenty of great food for a good price. Excellent value. Popular place; nice atmosphere.
D.
Delicious food. Shame there is no more Salsa night...
L.
Nice bar the only bad thing is the DJ always same music if you go once is gonna be good but if you come back you gonna get bored they not even change a single song.
G.
Great food. In & out prior to a show.
E.
Standard Mexican food, nothing amazing though. Was disappointed after good reviews from friends. Wasn't over or underwhelmed with it.
J.
Still an iconic and worthwhile place to visit even after more than 35 years..
A.
Best Mexican food in Auckland...period
Have been a patronage of this amazing restaurant for 10+ years and still love and crave for their food...
B.
Was great to have some good Mexican food. Good service despite being very busy.
D.
Good margaritas and festive atmosphere. Food is alright, certainly good for this part of the world, but as a Texan, eh... Not the best, but not bad.
T.
The food and cheese dip was awesome. The only thing is that they accidentally gave me an alcoholic margarita when I wanted a virgin one.
A.
Great happy hour prices for food and drinks
C.
Great fresh food and drinks at affordable prices. Joyful atmosphere and quick service. Worth a visit!
S.
I will never have enough words to say how much I love Mexican cafe. An amazing vibe with great staff and classic food
Z.
Love Mexican Cafe, have been going here for 20 years. Love the atmosphere, the pricing is very reasonable. Food is devine. Keep up the good work.
G.
Delicious, great location. Not *too* pricey
H.
Loved the atmosphere. Great personalised customer service. Quality food.
R.
Best Mexican in NZ. Not only is the food great, but so is the environment and staff. Highly recommend the chicken nachos as an appetizer or as a whole meal.
S.
I will never have enough words to say how much I love Mexican cafe. An amazing vibe with great staff and classic food
C.
Good food. A lot of food. Very casual place.
K.
Cheap food for what you get has stuck to it's roots in that area for even my parents used to come here for a cheap meal!! Good atmosphere however always seems crowded
L.
Friendly service, delicious food, great environment.
M.
Great atmosphere, with good food and drink. Fast and friendly service.
M.
This place used to be great, but this visit was very disappointing. The food has become very bland and Westernised, which is a huge shame.
J.
Delicious! Access is by steep stairs which maybe a challenge to some. Lovely balcony setting.
L.
Great food, but be prepared to wait if it's a busy day, the food won't disappoint 🌯🍹
T.
The food was very good in terms of flavour and quantity, all for a good price. Staff were welcoming
N.
Good happy hour drinks and snacks, tasty food and great service
B.
Fantastic restaurant, great food, reasonable price.
Staff have been very accommodating
C.
Great place, excellent food.
J.
Yummy food, but asked 3 times for a beer, then had to give in and go to the bar and ask for it myself when nearly finished the meal.
A.
Very average in decor and food quality. Would not visit again. The food at MacDonalds is better
C.
Good service, great food, great atmosphere and the prices are very resonable will definitely go back.
L.
Staff were lovely and the restaurant had a great vibe. Also I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much tequila ever in my life
