Recommended by a local Japanese and have to say it is a love at first sight. From the orange outlook of the restaurant to the delicious ramen to the tasty side dishes, perfect!

Ramens here are outstanding. Rich in flavour and generous amount of toppings and everything for its price. Breading of the pork cutlets' are nice and crisp. Miso as a side dish were excellent too. Will come back for more.

Been here a few times, always excellent. Friendly efficient service and great, authentic Japanese food. As per other reviews, the ramen is excellent. Have also had the hamburg hotplate, cheese beef curry udon and several other dishes. All excellent. The sundaes are not for the faint-hearted...very generous proportions and well designed. I was sad when the Burger Bunker closed years ago, but if it had to in order to make way for Cameron Japanese then the world is better off.

Best ramen I've ever had in NZ! Ordered the Pork and miso ramen (I think that's the name) and the chashu pork just melts in your mouth. Felt like I was back in Japan again! Definitely give this a try if you're missing Japan!

The Ramen noodle used in-house is too soft and thin. Doesn't have the chew you'd expect. Can get very busy on weekdays so reservations are advised. The waiting staff and general customer service was outstanding. Pity the food was a let down.

Not what I would call an a super duper authentic Japanese restaurant but it's still a really nice place and I would come again.

Amazing meal. Absolutely loved it. We ordered the pork bone soup ramen. So delicious. Also ordered the chicken cutlet curry, amazing also. The food here was delicious and generously sized for the price. Takeaway order was absolutely brilliant. Went back 2 days later for the same meal over again, just added extras to the ramen order!!!

Heard about this restaurant and gave it try when I visit Chch. There are Japanese curry, ramen, burgers and desserts on A3 size menu!! Ramen is tasty and reasonable price. I order the Japanese fried chicken and they are juicy and yummy. Will come back to try different food. Highly recommended if you want to eat Japanese ramen ( noodles) in Chch.

Dined in during lunch. Pork bone soup ramen, vegetable croquettes and karaage chicken were delicious. We didn't like the beef curry udon though. The lunch menu dish is served with 2 pieces of inari sushi (except the karaage chicken don). Staff was really friendly. Spent about $67 for all the dishes. Will definitely be back if we feel like eating Japanese. 😊 (My daughter who doesn't like eating meat with fat liked the pork in the ramen so much that she didn't mind the fat at all!)

Top quality panko used in the cutlets here! Curry have beef in it for that extra favour. Hamburg steaks are good size. Love that 80's/90's car plate for the kids meal! To top it off, the restaurant itself looks like a burger!

Had Ramen at this place a few times, the broth is good, nothing overly outstanding though. The thin noodles are chewy, but not quite as firm as I would like, but on the plus side the thin noodles grab the broth really well. The char siew however is a show stopper, fantastically well cooked, so tender and flavorful with a real good balance of lean meat to fat. Pretty generous serving of char siew for single a bowl as well.

If you're looking for authentic Japanese food & the best ramen in town then look no further. $15 for this pork & miso ramen that was absolutely packed full of flavour and pork that melts in your mouth. Sapporo beer on tap and bottles of Asahi available too if you're that way inclined. 10/10 would recommend to anyone.

21 March 2021 - this is my second visit to this restaurant since Feb 2014. I decided to go back and try the their ramen noodles 🍜. I ordered Roast duck ramen 🍜, miso butter ramen and [octopus 🐙] tako wasabi. The broth for my pork and miso ramen is rich, flavoursome and delicious 😋. The tako wasabi is slimy and a bit spicy due to wasabi. You might need to use a spoon to eat if you're not good at using chopsticks 🥢. One important thing is IF you want to eat there, I highly recommend that you make a table reservation as the seating fills up quite quickly. Overall, it was a good experience from this Japanese restaurant. This is a licensed (🍻🍸🍷🍾🍹🍺) eatery. There is plenty of seating area. There is onsite parking 🅿. They accept cash and EFTPOS including credit card payments (Paywave payments are available, for those who want to know). Would I go back? Yes 😀. Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. It was delectable. Price: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Reasonably priced. Customer service: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. The staff were friendly. It's also an interesting sounded experiment sitting in one end of a dome shaped room and bring able to hear voices from the other end. We booked for 5; 4 of us ended up going, and we got one meal to take away for the missing person. The service was great, we had time to look at the menu and make our decisions. There were plenty of choices, nice pictures. The food arrived fairly quickly, and was all very nice, we all had food envy about each other's meals :-) and everything tasted great. The toilets were really cool - archetypal Japanese hi-tech - and were spacious and clean. The only minus was the temperature, a hot day outside and felt even hotter inside. We will definitely be coming back.

Very odd dome shaped building and would be easy to dismiss from the outside as it has definately seen better days but once you're inside it's not really an issue and interior is tidy. Food is basic Japanese ramen, curry, udon, fried chicken, teriyaki etc. Ive only ever eaten the ramen and always enjoyed it. The sliced pork belly in the ramen are some of the best I've ever tasted. Looks to be kid friendly and service is fine. Menu prices are possibly a bit more expensive than normal for casual dining but im happy to support it as a local business. Worth checking out if you want good japanese near Hornby / Wigram.

Very tasty Japanese food at this locally famous establishment. There's plenty of choices even Hamburg steaks which are popular in Japan but not commonly found in NZ. I had a tonkotsu ramen which was delicious with a hearty soup base. The building is unique and round which is apparently because it used to be a burger place, which results in interesting acoustics.

I write this review with much sadness. Life is now bleak... the taste buds have now felt all the tastes in the world... After eating at Cameron Japanese Family Resaturaunt I now fear that any other food that both myself or my partner will ever eat, cook or buy (expect from this establishment) will never live up to the high expectations that I now have. The food.... The perfect balance of flavour with the broth. The perfect noodles. The fried chicken that was crispy but delicate. DELICIOUS. Yes, at first aren't we all a bit apprehensive? Driving past this interesting feat of architecture made me wonder.... what is this place??... a restaurant that is shaped like a burger? You may think.... was it just the food that gave it a 5 star review?! No. The atmosphere was excellent. Families and friends were eating Udon left right and centre. Hot sizzling meals were coming out at rapid pace which made our mouths water. A small chatter of happy people filling their bellies made me wonder.... how can any other restaurant live up to these expectations. It was literally the best food I have eaten in my life....

This was an interesting and unique experience. It felt like a cross between the old Cobb & Co and a casual Japanese restaurant. The food was tasty. Our kids got meals served in plates shaped like cars, which they loved! The kids meals were crumbed prawns, fries, rice etc and they were quirky, but we loved how unique the experience was. We ordered curries and ramen, both of which were tasty. I don't think its the best Japanese cuisine I've had in Christchurch but the staff were friendly, it was cozy and there is something special and unique about it that I can't really describe. I'll definitely go back!
