What an amazing experience at Casa Publica!! The food was amazing, the best part were the pita chips and guac... to die for!! And count yourself lucky if you are served by Olivier !! He knew all the history of the rums and made our night that much better. Highly recommend.

We had the ceviche ,soft shell crab and the steak along with a cocktail. It was all amazing! The location is fantastic , try to get a seat by the window if you go for lunch . The lady taking care of our table was very welcoming . I'm glad I picked this restaurant to celebrate my birthday

Lovely and clean pleasant waitress. We went for lunch and thought it a smaller menu, but offerings were tasty ,well presented and on the generous size. I had chicken nachos as nothing really jumped out. Very surprised at the lovely meal. Nacho chips were home made and very delicious, big chunks of a very tasty chicken,all in all a big hit. So don't be put off by lack of choice just pick something you won't be disappointed.

The place is absolutely amazing, conveniently located, and with the warmest atmosphere which we loved. I was a bit unsure at the beginning about what to order but the very friendly staff Juan David and Charlotte were there to help us decide what we wanted. They explained the mains and desserts patiently and helped us have a wonderful time. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Such good customer service and amazing choice of drink and food. We had 1kg Wakanui beef with ribs and potatoes etc. And guacamole had great 'homemade' tortilla chips with a beautiful texture, love to come here again sometime.

Amazing collection of rum. But something also for everyone. Wonderful friendly staff, and tantalizing the senses with cocktails and food.

Great Food. First impression for lunch was the place was closed. But once inside and seated. Service was good. And the food was awesome. A must try if you get to Christchurch. I recomend the Beer Battered Fish Tacos with Mango chutney!

First time diners here and we chose the Chef's Choice menu which was excellent and great value. The cocktails were excellent too so we will certainly return. Service a little slow so one star forfeited!

Went in last night for diner with my partner, the food was amazing, really tasty. The service was on point too, our waiter Olivier had heaps of knowledge about rum and gave us a little lesson about it. It was really great to see someone so interested in something he sells/serve. Will defo come again

We had the trust the chef menu and it was amazing! Brilliant food, great cocktails! So glad we came here to celebrate my partner's birthday. The staff were so attentive also.

I’ve walked past this place a few times and assumed it was touristy. For context, I don’t live in Chch, but visit family there a few times a year. There was something about the outside decor that led me to form that assumption, but I was wrong. This is a cool place. Food is South American, so tacos, ceviche, guacamole and lots of meat. We opted for tacos - venison, chicken and black bean. There were 3 guacamoles to choose from and we selected one with cashews, lime and chilli. Never thought to put cashews in guacamole before and it was so good. The guacamole is made at your table, which is a nice touch. If you like rum, this is the place to go with pages of rum options and rum flights. I chose a very nice Argentinian Malbec. The vibe of the fit out is clubby without being pretentious. Highly recommend.

Visited for the weekend and went here Friday and Saturday night - 13th and 14th August! Cocktails, Food, Live Music, Ambience, Location and most of all Execellent Service ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hugo's Cocktails are a MUST! Especially enjoyed the cocktail recommendation by Allesandro. Guacamole made at the table definitely a highlight, fresh and delicious. Had a few of the tacos and small shared plates, all great tasting. Special mention to Theo, Olivier and Allessandro for your hospitality. I totally agree with the comment made by the lady at the front when I shared my feedback, that you all have great personality and that's what makes this place a MUST to visit. We'll be back! 😊

The staff are very friendly and they are happy to help anyone in need. The food tastes good. There are also great drinks. Eat guacamole on the table, and it’s more delicious. We will remember the nights spent here.

Loved the first impression of the restaurant - Theo with excellent customer service, second the ambience with live guitarist music and most importantly of all the food..we had the four course dinner with wine pairing. It was a good decision. We aren't local but will be back for sure...whenever we are in Christchurch next.

My work place celebrated our Christmas lunch here. Very well organized with everyone's orders. A good range of non alcoholic beverages. I enjoyed my coconut with mango drink.

Really good atmosphere, service was very accommodating and the food was amazing! Highly recommend choosing "trust the chef" with an emphasis on the guacamole. Will be visiting again, to try some rum.

Great dinner last night. Really cool vibe with guitarist playing away in the corner. We had a couple of cocktails and a rum to go with our dinner. Really good guacamole made fresh in front of you and I had awesome espetada with the meat so juicy and tasty. Even had a good kids meal option for our daughter. Great place.

Amazing place! I've only been there a few times but all aspects of the experience have been amazing, the food, atmosphere and customer service were excellent. Although like I mentioned I have only been a few times, its always been a pleasure and one of my favorite places in Christchurch. Throughout my visits to casa publica ive come to know Isaiah more personally, a great chap and friend all around which ive known for his charity to the homeless, disabled, animals and other disenfranchised, really a golden star making this restaurant such a better place than it already is. A true posseser of such a strong mindset. Cheers!

I'm not sure what was better at lunch today - the service or the food! Both were outstanding!! Actually, it might just be the food as our meals were delicious, perhaps the best South American food 8ve had outside South America. I might have to visit Christchurch more often.

A casual Sunday afternoon in the sun watching the trams go by. Service is fast, excellent food and atmosphere. There were plenty of spare seats available inside while the best location outside was almost full. The crispy homemade tortillas are well worth ordering.

Had a lovely meal which was served by Isaiah. Great personality n served with a smile.Would loved to go there again. Meal was very enjoyable and delicious.

Highly recommend it. Great food, good service and amazing ambience. They have live music on Thursday nights and they move the furniture around to make space for a dance floor. They have good drinks. I see some people get disappointed with their wine selection - this place is known for it's rum selection so don't expect for them to have an exhaustive wine menu. They do carry wine, though.

Great food and service. Love the cocktails too. All at a good price. Rubs and tacos were great plus the homemade guacamole done table side. Everyone was getting the calamari...wish we tried it but we were stuffed.

This was our first visit and it was all round good time. Great service and food. Authentic cooking, really good value for money and the Trust the Chef was a brilliant choice. Will definitely be back!

Great place to eat and drink with friends and family, they have small cubicles where u can make a nice private gathering with work team etc… foods is ok jut pricy may be but the vibe makes up for it ! Oh and live DJ stuck on the wall is an amazing feature to spot !!

Taco Tuesday is a great incentive to get people through the doors. Tacos were tasty, especially the cauliflower ones! All you can eat is a little misleading as they only bring the tacos round on a platter with 2 maximum per run and only an hour to eat. But most people wouldn't be able to anymore than an hour of tacos anyway. Otherwise the restaurant was very clean, staff good, decor very cool. Location is great

Our second time here. The food is great ! The staff again were super friendly and helpful. Cocktails are superb. Will go again to cruise through the incredible range of rum available here. Uber there and home I think. Really nice just go there !

Kia ora, really loved our experience. Rang at last minute and was lucky enough to get a table. The guacamole was fantastic, tasted devine and the preparation at the table added to the experience. Every dish we ordered was fantastic. Would definitely come here again.

Enjoyed the setting - had a comfy booth/table for 7 and nicely separated from the hustle of the downstairs bar and music.. and what was a busy evening but worth the wait, besides it gave time to enjoy their extensive drinks ( fantastic cocktails ) lol. I had the beef on the skewer over a bed of the most delicious cous cous and the meat was devine though I wish the steak knife was a bit sharper - a minor in what was a very pleasant evening meal.

The meal was probably one of the best I have had for a long time. Be aware of what you are ordering. The service gives lots of advice and there is always online advice, listen to it. I enjoyed my experience enormously. Go there.

You won't find your average Pub grub here!! This place is a Boutique Bar & Restaurant. There Specialty is offering 202 different types of Rum! The food Menu is only small. But the food that we tried was Tasty. We had the Tamales, Polenta bites, Pork ribs with salad and a side of potatoes. The Staff were Attentive & Polite

This was an amazing place! Loved the service food atmosphere. The staff and Manager were so lovely. Definitely a must to go here if you are in Christchurch. I will definitely return if I'm back in Christchurch.

Both Beef and Calamari Espetada was incredible. Very cozy place with good service. We will come here again. Cocktails selection is very good with a lot of rum selections. Cheesecake and Affocato were very good.

Really busy place and it would pay to make a booking for a table. I had to wait 20 minutes due to no booking, however the bar was more than adequate to the time. Plenty of rum options as well as beer, wine, other spirits etc. Dinner itself was fresh and tasty. Service was confident and professional. Well worth a visit.

Cocktails were great. Food could have been better seasoned. Nice selections of alcohol. In a beautiful street with colourful buildings. Outside seating nice with good weather, a bit small though.

Casa Publica is a classy tavern that serves up a nice variety of cocktails, beer and other alcohols. Food are mainly Mexican inspired. I highly recommended the traditional guacamole with nachos. The guacamole is delicious and made/mixed on the spot at your table. The nachos that come with it are the best I've had so far and to die for. I also had the fish tacos while I was there which I find was just ok. The flavours were OK but the fish was overcooked/slightly too 'powdery' for my liking. Overall, somewhere I would definitely recommend for somewhere to chill with friends over beer and some food nibbles.

Fantastic food and great service. The team was knowledgeable and could talk us through the rims we were drinking. The guacamole made at the table was spot on and certainly something you should try. I am looking forward to going back sometime and eating my way around there menu!

Had an excellent meal for three at this restaurant. The attention from the crew, the recommendations, the meat, the chips, everything was great. Definitely a place to go back.

We have been here a few times but it still puts out high quality and high value lunches /dinners. Always nice to have a nice margarita before and a giid wine selection. Bookings recommended on most weekends but worth it - although late dining (3.30 onwards) can often find you a table..

Great far food in a South American style, loved the guacamole prepared at the table. This place has more rums than you can poke a stick at, along with very attentive staff with great recommendations.

Fantastic place to spend the evening at a location booming with pedestrian. Thursday is dance night, Friday and Saturday is a live music... The portion and taste of food is more than satisfying highly recommend and the staff really care and look after your dietary needs and won't be shy to proactively tell you ir ask for you in regards to ingredients.

Came in for lunch. Attentive waitress, fantastic ambiance, good food. I could eat the guacamole everyday for the rest of my life!

From the moment we walked in Matt the barman was attentive, giving us food suggestions and putting the fire outside on for us so we could people watch. The decor is beautiful and we re booked for dinner with friends in one of the booths. We were the only ones in the restaurant which was surprising as, the coffee shop across on new regent st was heaving with people and charged a lot more for food than casa publica. We had beef brisket sandwich which was delicious and good value for $15. Well worth a visit if you're in and around the cbd!

Great place for food which is deceptively large. Our waiter was helpful in recommending what dishes we should order. The starters of nachos and pork belly bites w chilli aioli were great. For our mains we ordered a bunch of dishes to share amongst five of us including a vegan: chicken espetadas; 🌮 - garlic mushroom, lamb barbacoa & zingy pork; snapper ceviche; patatas fritas and polenta bites. We rolled ourselves out of there to the ice cream store "Rollickin" that sits opposite La Casa Publica. Reasonably priced and the wait staff were really awesome.

Amazing ribs!!The drink menu is also very impressive(with a great variety of drinks and the weird story lol ).

Hi Won't be returning, nor would I recommend your restaurant , primarily because the portions were miserable especially for the price The charred pineapple salsa was an absolute joke and mains were small at best. The rum was good but it should be for 15$ The service and atmosphere were fine but the price vs portion size is disproportionate The ingredients for Mexican food are cheap , that is the whole idea of it I emailed the restaurant but didn't get a reply, so they had their chance to respond

It's one of our favourite restaurants in town. Great atmosphere, great food. We were impressed by the staff Mike tonight. He was extremely kind and professional. He made our dinner much more enjoyable. Special thanks to him💖

Had the pulled pork tacos and the chicken and bacon guacamole pictured below. The food came super fast, the guacamole portion was huge, the tortillas absolutely delicious and the pulled pork was very tasty. Recommended

I was not a fan of Casa Publica. My cocktail was prepared beautifully however which saved it a star. I opted for the mussel ceviche which was just ok, nothing special. The beef skewer was fairly forgettable as the meat was tough and under-seasoned. I also had the polenta bites which were cooked perfectly however the sauce/dip that accompanied it was nothing special and didn't add much to the dish. The salad I had on the side was also too sweet which was rather off-putting. Overall I wasn't impressed with the food here however it seems like they know how to make a good cocktail!

We ordered 5 of the dishes at the start of the menu. I think it said $22 for 3 and a couple of soft drinks. They told us the bill was $55 and we thought that cannot be right. Way too high. Sure enough they had the wrong one and it was $72. We should said nothing. The bill was way higher than we expected. The table we had was by a path everyone walked by. The floor was such the table moved around each time someone walked by. There was a drought down my back. The food was fantastic all sorts of different flavors. The guy playing the guitar terrific.

Delicious tacos and guacamole made at the table. Ambiance was fantastic, cozy with a fire going inside. Margarita was one of the best I've had in New Zealand.

I’ve been once for dinner with some friends. The cocktails are amazing , best ones I’ve had in town. The guacamole is really tasty and it’s a great choice that you can choose not to have chili on it as they make it just in front of you. The rest of the food though, not so happy about it as everything is spicy and there’s no other option. I ordered the calamari skewer and asked if can be not spicy, without chili. They said that yes they were going to remove the big full chili that came with it and yes they did it but they didn’t say that the marinade of the calamari is already spicy As well as the beans that came as a side with it. Not happy with the food option but happy with the desert and cocktails.

Stumbled upon this place while walking around Christchurch looking for somewhere for some solo dining. I was asked to sit at the bar but when I said I wouldn’t be there long I was taken upstairs to the covered deck. The ceviche was delicious and fresh and the main meal was presented very well (skewered beef suspended over a plate of some kind of quinoa blend. I ordered a side of potatoes and struggled to get through it all. Generous portions sizes! Service was also very good. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed a fine lunch here. The food is outstanding and a great value. The drink selection is also top notch. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. We were particularly impressed with the waiter Theo; he answered all the questions we had and prepared at the table our order of guacamole magnificently. Highly recommended for lunch or dinner.

A very tasty dining experience with good atmosphere and service. Some entrée (sharing platters) were very small and hardly enough for 1 person let alone sharing, and expensive at $17. Mains were better sizes but still quite expensive for what was provided. Staff all very helpful, knowledgeable and polite. Probably would not return.

Wonderful night out. The beef and lamb were delicious and the mojito was so refreshing. The dancing started around 9pm and there were many couples on the floor by 9:30pm. The music was great, a good mix of bachata and salsa rhythms. Loved the dark wood and lighting inside, cosy yet chic. Hope to go again soon!

The food was incredible, the place is beautiful. We had the traditional guacamole which was made on the table, I decided to go for the chicken skewer as recommendation of our waiter Alejandro, who was really friendly and told us a little about how is guacamole eaten in Mexico , it was nice to find a Spanish speaker in this restaurant. For the drinks we all got the mojitos, it was good but probably way to much ice. Good experience, still feel is a little overpriced.

Me and my boyfriend went there to grab some quick lunch after work , we got some loaded nachos, the portion was huge and enough to share between the two of us. We also got the empanadas. The place is lovely and welcoming, it was raining so it was nice to be seated next to the fire. The service was great as well, our lovely waiter Alejandro was really charming. Hope to go back to get a nice dinner.

I imagine this would be a great place in a small group or couple but my experience as part of a larger group booking was disappointing. Started off with great starters but went downhill steeply after that with slow service and strained staff.

A friend told us when in Christchurch you have to go to Casa Publica. I booked the rum tasting. It was amazing. With over 200 rums there have we learnt alot about rum. Alex our bar tender who orchestrated this was fantastic. Very knowledgeable and made it a really great experience. Afterwards we had dinner which we chose trust the chef. Great choice with a selection of spanish food.

Had dinner at casa publica. The atmosphere and decoration of the restaurant is nice. Cocktails were quite nice, loved the piña colada, but food was a bit meh, I found the guacamole, tacos and espetada average. We had baba au rum for dessert which was also very nice. I'd give 3.5 star to the place, I'd repeat for drinks not for the food.

The setting is fantastic and very authentic. I was unlucky because my fish dish was served cold but my kids ribs dishes were outstanding. The specials were value for money. Maybe I’ll get lucky next time 😊

Lighting too dark upstairs. Unable to view the food presented properly. Food only mediochre and took far too long to come out. Booking was from 7.30pm and desert came out at 10.15. Some people in the group had already gone home. Service extremely slow. Wouldn't recommend this restaurant and wouldn't go again.

Calamari Espanada changed my life! Yum! Guacamole and chips a must!!! The beef was a bit chewy, but when I mentioned it the staff were lovely and set us straight. The Parisian who greeted us was super fun and our lovely blonde server was attentive. Went Thurs night and the dancing was great to watch!

Good atmosphere, reasonable price.

OMG the food was next level, so fresh and flavoursome. The staff were friendly, prompt and helpful. The bar had great choice (like there was a library ladder installed for access of top shelf bottles, there were that many!) and the barstaff took pride in the presentation of their cocktails and other tasty drinks. Recommended over and over.

The cocktail is amazing!! The bartender Alex was very nice and lovely. The venue is nice. Recommend if you wanna chill and have a good drink.

Nice place, comfortable seating despite a busy night. Food is good, good value for money (my partner and I both got the chef special 4 course menu), and good service by our waiter Juan. Very good place that just lack a little "je ne sais quoi" to get a 5 stars... (Maybe if the tacos were made of corn tortilla instead of wheat?)

Food was great (recommend the kiwifruit ceveche and lamb main) fabulous selection of rums from all over. My only concern was the time it took to deliver meals, almost an hour for entrees and nearly the same again for mains. They were quite busy, however, and we were a table of 9 so no need to lose a star for that. A little more communication would have been appreciated but as I am from out of town it gave me time to try some cocktails, a zombie and a special with banana rum, both lovely if you like it strong!

We are from out of town, had been to Casa Publica before and on this visit we dined with friends. Very tasty Nacho’s, also got to taste Advocado ice cream, very nice! Enjoyable evening, wonderful food and outstanding table service by Charlie.

Cool Funky eatery with an equally cool story behind it, featuring tasty Hispanic food fare featuring Tacos and homemade charred corn salsa, to name two. Great options for groups and/or intimate dining, and a Rum collection worthy of review.

Fantastic meal, awesome friendly staff, great atmosphere

Great vibe, drinks list, and small plates. The traditional guacamole, chorizo salsa, and pork belly bites were all really good. Only low point was the smoked fish tacos. They are served warm, which is odd for smoked fish, and the sauce mixed with the fish is pretty sweet. Just didn't work for either of us even though we eat a lot of smoked fish. They comped the dish graciously. Also service was a bit slow. A good experience overall though. I recommend checking it out.

Good restaurant. Tasty ribs, just a little small portions. If you're lucky you can sit on the balcony.

Been here last week and loved the experience. One of the best guacamole I’ve had- we ordered the one with chicken. We also had ribs and a steak, all made to perfection. I’m looking forward to the next visit, thanks Casa Publica!

Totally positive experience Had a great night at Casa Publica to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was recommended to us & we certainly weren't disappointed. We received an enthusiastic welcome from the maître d'. The ambiance is nice & lighting is low, making the restaurant & bar feel intimate. Latin mixed with other music styles completes the perfect atmosphere. The range of Rums was great with a good choice of cocktails to choose from. The bar staff were friendly & helpful. There is a strong South American vibe to the food which we enjoyed. Really good varied menu. Loved the guacamole which is freshly made in front of you & the chicken tacos were divine. All the staff were very attentive, friendly & engaging which impressed us immensely. We have seldom felt so looked after. We felt we got good value for our money. Drinks prices are nicely varied & there's something special to suit every budget. Loved it & will be back for more.

Amazing food beautiful views on the top deck staff are amazing and helpful love seeing the tram go by during our meal the people dancing downstairs and the crowds below us we had a perfect spot on the top deck absolutely loved our time here cheers guys we will be back

The drinks were ok although the mojito was more mint and water than anything else. The bartender with the mustache was rude and not friendly whatsoever and is not kind with those hard of hearing

Would have loved it...if we were advised earlier that our order wasn't available. We'd wanted the chefs choice but almost as first courses were coming out for rest of table we were advised. The food however is very good...our waiter was a little overwhelmed sorting our large group

Excellent presentation of the food, especially with the hanging meat skewers! Interesting and exotic range of flavours. Guacamole was a standout dish, as were the chicken and pineapple tacos. The lamb was very succulent as well. Excellent and fast service. :)

Wonderful food and experience. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is quite fun. They make the guacamole at the table for you (so cool!) and some of the meat is served on a hanging skewer! The food is seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I appreciate a smaller menu because it saves the difficulty of having to choose from a lot.

This restaurant was great it doesn't have a big menu but what they do have is fantastic and the staff were very friendly and helpful i couldn't fault it in any way. If you like to drink Rum this is a place to visit it would take a long time for you to sample every one but you would enjoy it. I will definitely eat here again when I'm back in Christchurch and maybe try a few Rums. Great place worth a visit

Got a few drinks and wings, as well as fish mains for myself and my girlfriend. The food was fantastic, and the service was great. The waitress partially misheard my order so it was not initially completed, however she quickly acted to rectify the situation and apologised profusely. As a customer, I do not mind at all if mistakes are made; it is the follow-up that counts. Our waitress did an excellent job in ensuring that we were well looked after.

Had a beer only on this occasion. A nice warm atmosphere on a cold day with a very effective gas fire burning.

The venue and staff are great. The only issue was the rump steak you see in this photo, it was incredibly chewy and not tasty at all. I wouldn't rush back but I think my experience may be isolated as most people seem to have had better meals than we did.

Went there with my wife tonight, a bit of mixed feelings. The good: Pork tacos were outstanding, smoky and delicious, just perfect. Crispy potatoes were great too. Drinks and vibe are very enjoyable. The rum list looks stunning (although not a rum drinker myself). Service was prompt and very friendly although they seemed understaffed and the waitresses seemed to struggle to keep up, nevertheless they all did a great job and I recognize that being in the hospitality industry myself, guess they weren't expecting such a busy night. The not so good: The beef espetada was cooked perfectly medium rare as we requested, and flavorsome, just very disappointingly lukewarm, an easy thing to correct though, it was still quite delicious. Barley salad was packed with flavor. The dessert was definitely forgettable, reads "smoked chocolate cacahuatl with rum glazed fruit and candied pecans". I was expecting some fresh fruit, pan fried hot with rum and butter but it was a big pile of dried chewy fruit with coconut shavings. The candied pecans were blitzed to a powder and I would have loved them cracked into big pieces or even whole. The chocolate itself was very nice, just didn't have the right partners on the plate. I would have love just a banana or some plums maybe, even just fresh apricots pan fried glazed with rum along with the chocolate and the pecans (whole or in big chunks at least). The chocolate was screaming for some fresh acidic fruitiness to cut through it. We mentioned this to our waitress and she was kind enough to take the dessert off the bill that's why I give a 4 star, she was very nice and understanding. We appreciate it and probably will be back. The atmosphere is something to look forward to. Thanks Casa Publica.

Very classy Mexican restaurant! You might want to dress a touch more on the formal side. Food is excellent, fresh and flavoursome. Menu prices are on the expensive side of things.

Really enjoyed the food, it's a cool venue, very quick service, you never feel like you're waiting or looking around for someone. Guacamole is made at the table, and l had the signature beef dish, which was beef rump and very tasty, nicely cooked.

Average to poor for the money. Not as good as Flying Burrito Brothers was on the same site. Good range of rums like Flying Burrito Brothers had a good range of Tequilas. Clearly make their money on drinks not food. Better grilled meats available for less at Little High if you skip the rums for wines and beers.

This was superb. Great service and very quick after we ordered. It was warm and a had a great atmosphere. And the food was amazing. Really tasty and varied in it's flavours. The calamari came out on a huge skewer and tasted even better than it looked. Highly recommend. Wish the rest of the family could have come!

Didnt book but thought we would try our luck and pop in after 7 on a Friday night. Given a table by bar. Service was quick and informative. Ordered the steak platter for two, plus pineapple salsa. Couldn't fault either...musician was awesome....would go again and totally recommend!!

Great venue. Fab latin music. The food is fantastic and they have an impressive drinks list. The staff are super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Also a great place to hire if you need a venue for an event. The upstairs area is available and has its own bar and deck.

Quite long wait times between courses .... Had a set menu as there was between 20-30 in our group. We had most of the upstairs portion of the restaurant.

Booked a group in for a rum tasting then a larger group for dinner. Staff were easy to deal with, bar staff very friendly and gave a reasonable description of the rums. A variety of rum 'flights' available to allow people to taste multiple types without breaking the bank. Meal was very nice, everyone at the table enjoyed it and even through it was a busy evening the staff remained attentive and the the wait time for meals during the busy period was not to bad at all. Well done and thank you to the team at Casa Publica.

Super nice place! The people behind the bar are very friendly. You can try some beer from the tap, before you buy a pint. The guacamole is also great here. It will be freshly made in front of you on your table. Definitely recommend this place!

We celebrated our anniversary here with low expectations that the restaurant would achieve a south American vibe. We were pleasantly surprised by the quiet upstairs area that was quite romantic. Our server was attentive but not obtrusive. The food and drinks were top notch. The different flavours of guacamole struck us as suspicious but we decided to try the salmon guacamole and it was unexpectedly divine. Our ribs were also flavorful tender and delicious. We wouldn't normally mention a salad but it was so fresh and tasty it deserves mention as well. We will certainly be going back soon!

We have been here a couple of years ago. Meat was excellent but portions rather small. The service was just great and there was a really good vibe. Overall recommend.

What a great find. Fantastic bar. Warm and welcoming. Rum is their speciality and they have a huge range available and a great barman . Keegan knows what to make you and is super knowledgeable. Great spot and and can totally recommend.

The best dinner out we have had in a long time! The in laws really enjoyed it and they aren't into trying different things. The servers were amazing and attentive. The wings delicious and the cocktails divine!

Went to this place for lunch and had the mussels, they were so good we booked for dinner as well. Had the ribs for dinner which were also great. The venue is really well appointed with great background music and very little echo making it super easy to converse. Had a food selections of beers and the staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all, no complaints.

The original guac and chips here is amazing and we had great service! But the rest of our food was small, expensive and not overly great. If you order the tacos (2 small tacos per serve) you arent allowed to have two different flavors, two of us ordered the corn as a side with paprika oil and queso fresco and for $8 you get one small peice of corn with some paprika and unmelted cheese. I wish I'd had the guac as my dinner because the rest was overpriced and average.

The food was really good but what made our visit great was the sense of theatre around the meal. There's nothing quite like having guacamole made fresh at your table, and the way the suspended Espetada skewers were pretty cool. There was a nice buzz around the place. Recommend the pisco sour cocktail too.

Great vibe and friendly service. But the food was underwhelming. We had the habanero smashed potatoes, mushroom tacos, mushroom ceviche and mushroom guacamole. For the ceviche the mushrooms were raw and bland. I expect a ceviche to be cooked by acid and fully flavored. The guacamole was good decent but again used raw white button mushrooms - why not use something more interesting? The mushrooms taco was quite tasty. I'm convinced the people making the tortilla chips have never been to north America - they were closer to fried crackers than tortilla. Finally, while I appreciate vegetarian options this place leaned much too heavily on mushrooms to provide substance and texture. Lots of other options available for vegetarian dishes, give people more than just mushrooms to choose from. Again, love the vibe and the people. But I have to dock a full 2 stars for the food.

The service was exceptional. The attention to detail with the atmosphere, and the overall ambiance is worth it! However, the food was bland. The calamari was rubbery, flavorless, and akin to chewing on a tire. The mojito was extra sugary, without enough rum or lime. Finally the lamb was so gamy that you would think they had caught it, killed it, and cooked it, 17 minutes prior to me sitting down. The chips and guac were incredible. If I could get a meal that was somehow just the chips and guac, it would absolutely worth it.

Great choice of food. Must try: Guacamole anything - the waiter comes to your table with all the ingredients and handmade it according to your preferences. Definitely adds up to the whole experience:)

Dropped in without a booking staff were so accommodating as long as we were gone by 8.30 pm. Great service without being imposing. Great starter guacamole made fresh at our table followed by the pork ribs and a chicken salad washed down with several glasses of Sav. Great atmosphere would highly recommend.

Dropped in for lunch today. Very prompt, exceptional attention and service from our waiter. Once again, utterly divine, freshly made guacamole with tortilla chips. Followed by an attractive plate of chicken salad. Delicious chunks of soft charred chicken with salad full of great, fresh ingredients. Fish tacos, beef burrito and charred chicken sandwich were all enjoyed as well. Toddler friendly. A welcome, short, recharging distance away from the busyness of the new inner-city complexes.

Far too much ice in the cocktail and mocktails we had. Food ok but not enough to warrant a return for more. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Delicious food at really good prices! I ordered a few smaller items to make up a meal and thoroughly enjoyed to variety of flavour. We had quite a wait for our food to come out but it was also a fairly busy night and we were a group of about 10 so very understandable. Looking forward to my next visit!

Very good food and intriguing interiors. When we visited Casa Publica we opted for a whole bunch of entrees (6+ entrees) to share instead of mains and this was plenty enough for 4 people! While this was an expensive meal the preparation was impeccable. Everything we had was delicious (including the fish dishes which I would normally stay well clear of!) and the guacamole was very cool to see prepared at the table.

Ribs!!! We were staying in Christchurch for the night and went for a wonder around town, ended up popping in here for dinner and YUM! If you're a fan of ribs then this is a great place. A pretty good serving of big pork ribs dripping in sauce (the way it's meant to be). Service was decent too for a busy night too. If we were lo all we would be back. It's a touch expensive but nice on a special occasion or if you're passing through like us

Great location especially noticeable at weekends when there's plenty of activity in New Regent Street. The bar has friendly helpful staff, good food and also well connected with Latino festival activities, Latin dance and Argentine Tango timeslots. The bar also has great indoor - outdoor seating so you can feel part of the street if you want to. Its awesome to see the historic trams go past and stop outside too.

Good location and reasonable bar fare. Patchy service from quirky staff, which makes it OK, I guess. Nice place to watch the world go by (well, mainly the trams!) Second visit, 3 months later: same thoughts as previously. Beer probably a little too cold, but a decent selection. Staff don't really seem to understand what excellent service looks like, which is a shame. They try.

Excellent expeirence. Got a table for two on the balcony, over looking New Regent St. Had a great time. Good service, fantastic food and great atmosphere. They also brew their own beer. Highly recommended

They have a well thought out theme with unusual ways to serve food but very average flavours. Didn't enjoy the atmosphere, it was very hot and stuffy with 6 of us crammed in a booth. Staff were friendly and reasonably attentive. Worst thing of all was the price, no BYO and $85 for an average bottle made for the most expensive night we have ever had at a restaurant.

The food is fresh, well presented and reasonably priced. We had window seating which gave us a great view of New Regent Street, which was pumping with people and the coming and going of the trams.

Casa republica is always a good place to dine iv been there many times got to love the rum selections to choose from and the meals are fantastic well worth the money for a good experience

Location is superb - the trolley bus passes outside and stops just down the road. A great place for people watching. The Great Wizard of Christchurch can be seen most days. We had a light lunch two days running. Both days completely different items off the menu. Reasonable prices but So fresh and flavoursome. Beer and wine were reasonable and a vast selection of rums. Go there. The staff are delightful.

The wait was long and when we queried the tables getting their food before us we were told that "obviously steak takes longer than nachos". The good was good but this isn't the first time I've had tables served their good when the guests arrived after me.

The revelation of Guacamole! On our 2nd visit we were able to get a taste of the evening menu. The Guacamole prepared at the table by friendly and competent staff is going to taunt me in hungry dreams. Best thing I had in my mouth in quite a while ;-) On the 1st try we stopped by around noon only being offers bar snacks (+vast beer selection on tap). The chips as well as the pork belly bites where underwhelming (at best). Glad we gave it a 2nd chance. Our last night here but would stop by again any time.

Great atmosphere, dishes were thoughtfully presented and well flavored. Unfortunately most were overcooked (including the steak), was expecting more for the price point.

Are here on our last night in New Zealand. I would highly recommend it. There restaurant was lively. Or good was delicious. Would recommend the chicken and I usually don't enjoy chicken but the marinade was great.

Great flavourful meal for $15, don't come hungry though. Don't get me wrong a decent portion size but it won't fill you up, needed some refried beans on the side or something to get to the satiated state.

This bar/restaurant is places right near a team stop, so you get a good view and entertainment, the Wizard of Christchurch (look him up) gets on and off right here, so you may see him. Stop here for a beer, cocktail or lunch as we did twice, small Mexican dishes, have guacamole made at your table, the food is fresh and tastes wonderful and service is great.

Great selection of rums. Dined here approximately 3 months ago and the food was fantastic, this time while the menu hadn't changed significantly the food had. Probably wouldn't go back for the food now.

I originally gave this place 5 stars after having dinner here. But following my last visit down graded my rating as the music they play is absolutely awful 80's crap which doesn't fit with the whole theme of the place! Sort your music out and it could be great.

Nice place to hang out and have a few drinks. The food is only average in my opinion.

I'm here almost every Wednesday to grab a bucket of wings for $6. The upstairs balcony is my favourite spot in the whole place.It's like Dux Central there are plenty of places to hangout throughout the bar each with a different feel.

Have to say the score is around 80. Not bad , not good. but price-unfriendly

Used a first table booking for the half price food and glad we did, the food was not bad by any means but it lacked flavour and I wouldn't have been happy had I paid full price. Overall not bad but not that great either.

A tapas bar that every one raves about. Unfortunately not my bag as all of the food options include chilli (the devil's own food). That said a great place to chill with friends and have a drink or two.

Last night in NZ and we couldn't have picked a better spot for our farewell dinner. They made room for us even though we didn't have a reservation so we were really pleased.
