Reviews of Diner 66 Christchurch
T.
Slow service but amazing food.
Try their alcohol menu.
A thumbs down to their mac n cheese though.
The meal has a good presentation, fries are nice and crispy, burgers are nicely presented and portioned.
The place is like walking to the 90s or visiting America vibe.
Good staff. I was expecting them to wear roller skates but oh well.
Awesome drink menu!
s.
What a great place
The atmosphere was absolutely brilliant the staff where very nice and polite and the service was brilliant
Ordered the big breakfast gluten free and it was Enough to fill me up for the whole day and I can safely say it was OK for people with celiac
I would highly recommend if you are in Christchurch looking for a good place to dine
E.
Was a lovely meal , the shakes were a stand out deep fried pickles were a tasty wee treat and the mac cheese was pretty good, the american hotdogs we got were nice
S.
I had the waffles with fried chicken, maple syrup & banana for dinner (there's an all day breakfast option). You can choose either pancakes, waffles or French toast (all come with maple syrup) & choose 2 other sides. Having banana with the chicken did seem quite weird at first but it's actually good when you eat them separately^^ There was an ample amount of syrup in a little cup so that you could chose the amount you wanted. The decor & theme was really cool & the staff were kind. There were also soo many delicious looking milkshake flavors but I unfortunately didn't have one.
E.
I'm giving it five stars because the staff are amazing and so was the milkshake but the pancakes left a bit to be desired. My husband enjoyed his so that's def a plus. I still do recommend as it could have been that my taste buds were at war cause of the milkshake which was so thick and rich and yum!!!
M.
Really good spot for families. Huge meals and very tasty. Had eyes on dessert but couldn't fit anything else in after the mains. We'll certainly be coming back next time we're in Christchurch.
A.
Not fans of fast food usually but, when you're craving a burger and can't be bothered making it yourself, Route 66 is worth a visit. There was only five other diners so service was quick although, we'd decided to takeaway. The place was tidy, the waitress friendly and the American menu was pretty good. For $20 each we bought a burger each served with a ginormous amount of french fries, a small coleslaw and chipmayo. The bacon was overcooked for my liking so I removed it. But, the burger was superb, not greasy as we had hoped. The beef pattie was perfectly soft with enough moisture not to be dried out, the other fillings were the perfect compliment. The french fries, wow! A big serving, it was well worth it and served with mouthwatering chipmayo! The coleslaw, whilst a tiny amount served in a small round container with it's own dressing, was just enough. I highly suggest going with a very big appetite as it's worth the visit.
S.
Bloody brilliant!! Popped in for some brunch and the food and service was amazing. Staff are friendly and helpful, food comes out fast and is really bloody good and the milkshakes are so good I ordered three (for myself). 100% would recommend
T.
Very good, service is fantastic, food is really good. I was very impressed by the staff member who thoroughly cleaned and sanitized the table and seats when a customer left
C.
I was looking for some dessert with my friend because i had a assessment at the college. You know, Diner66's waffle is awesome. I am sure you will surely be satisfied if you eat waffles here.( I ate waffle with chocolate sauce)
M.
This is a really superbly themed cafe. An American diner with model cars, root beer, chillie dogs, rock n roll music and a bright lively atmosphere.
Colouring in pencils and colour in the numbers sheets made it an interesting and different in a very positive experience.
J.
Fantastic, unique place. Super friendly staff, and great food. Would recommend.
K.
Absolutely great service, and awesome milkshakes!
C.
It is what it is - a very basic American food restaurant with juke box music of the 50's & 60's, period decor and the best staff ever - attentive, knowledgeable, friendly. Enjoyed the overall experience of introducing an 8year old granddaughter to memories of a misspent youth.
C.
We loved our dining experience especially when we found out they had gluten free options..highly recommend
K.
The nachos were OK, the burger was great tho. No mozzarella sticks which is my go-to American entree. Customer service was OK, I think our waiter was just counting down til home time, but the guy who sorted our payment (Boston) was great 😊
J.
It looked just like the 50's and the food was amazing! We all cleared our plates and we're definitely going back!
L.
A fabulous place to take the kids (big and small,) for a lunch or even just dessert while the adults have a milkshake with bailey's.
A.
Had lunch there, . The place was very tidy & clean & the young lady who served us was very nice & she did really well as she appeared to be doing most of it herself.
A.
Bloody awesome service extremely friendly and such a relaxed dinning experience. Meals bloody filling.... next visit..... Dessert only lol
K.
We all really enjoyed the food. The salad felt drowned in dressing but everything else was delicious. Very little wait time which was great. A bit expensive which is expected for the location but we agreed that the environment seemed crammed and somehow dull. Some places you eat and enjoy each others company for sometime after..we ate but didn’t feel like staying & left soon after. We intend on trying during the day next time 🙂
A.
Great authentic American diner experience, complete with bottomless coffee. Staff are super friendly and there's great music. Waffles are a real treat and there's endless options for milkshakes.
G.
Great shakes fantastic decor friendly service food just average on this occasion
A.
A fantastic atmosphere with lovely staff. All in all a lovely time to be had and they cater exceptionally well to both seliac/gluten free, vegan, dairy free just fantasticly versatile all for a very good price.
E.
Love this place!! Great food, cool atmosphere with the lights in the evening. Super cool drinks and floats. Would reccomend booking your table just incase as it can get quite busy 😉. Great accommodation for spical diets including coeliac diet etc with lots of care given. Great for the whole family all ages. I would reccomend 100% 9/10 my only small complaint would be wait times on food can be abit longer but is worth it for the taste in the long run.
J.
Service was average, food average.
Huge potential sadly missed.
S.
Great Decor, average food. The staff are nice enough, though there was no checking on us throughout our meal, only asking us for more drinks when our food was dropped off though it was a super quiet weekday afternoon. entree platter was pretty average, the best part being the chipotle mayo and the onion rings. My burger came with tomato in it, even though i specifically requested it without ( glad i don't have an allergy ) , and my friends loaded fries were 'nothing to write home about'. the coleslaw on the side of my meal seemed like coleslaw that was prepped a few days ago and had been sitting in the fridge to go soggy, tasting worse than supermarket slaw. the most redeeming factor of our meals was the shakes we had to end everything. Nothing like a true American diner though. If you're looking for cheap diner food, go up the road to Dennys, same quality of food, but much cheaper. Probably wouldn't go back for a meal again, but might be back for desserts. Hospitality isn't really a strong suit there either.
M.
Probably the most authentic American diver I have ever been to outside America (and I have been on many holidays to lots of different places in America!
From the decor detail to the menu detail (I haven’t seen biscuits and gravy or root beer anywhere except in the USA... not to mention the USA authentic free refills on filter coffee!) amazing food & amazing service to boot!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
A.
Milkshakes were great but food has been bland both times I've been here.
Beef in texas burger wasn't seasoned so was pretty bland and the Arazonia buttermilk chicken burger was also bland as hell and had about half an avacado in it which is not very 'American' nor did it match or enhance any flavours... it was all I could taste in the burger.
Milkshakes have been consistently good and their curly fries are great so there is some redeeming factors.
Unlikely to go back a 3rd time unless it's just for milkshakes.
A.
Great place to eat and drink. Its got that American diner vibe that you feel like you just want to travel back in time to that era.
y.
This brownie chocolate shake looks... Absolutely it looks unhealthy stuff but it taste amazing!! The uniform which all the staff wore was cute and they were very friendly. And the atmosphere is super cool!
R.
Food and service was great, 4 stars because the seating is a bit cramped and the toilets could have been cleaner.
K.
We had the eggs bene with bacon and the big breakfast. The food was ok the sausages and potato cakes all tasted like over used deep-fryer oil. The poached eggs were cooked perfect.
As they are an American restaurant they don't serve barista coffees such as flat whites, they only have the bottomless instant coffee which is not overly nice
J.
What an awesome spot. Food is great and the dinner has been executed perfectly.
L.
Great place awesome food only i didn't like the cutlery
T.
Really good drinks! The food is good but lacks in flavor unfortunately. This maybe because its American style food and this is how they have their food. I've had a few things on the menu from here, including burgers and hotdogs, which were ok but didn't find them particularly flavorful. The service here is generally good and it's a tidy restaurant. This place is popular so would recommend booking.
T.
Really enjoyed our experience here. Will definitely be back sometime
A.
This place was so.good and value for $$$ loaded fries are delicious!!! Recomend booking as it was quite busy! But such awesome staff and great vibe
T.
Service was great...awesome waitresses! Food was average considering the price. Fries were delivered cold and burgers were missing a wow factor which was a shame. I would recommend the Caramel popcorn milkshake - full of flavour. Would go back to try more milkshake flavors but not in a hurry to eat again.
W.
Diner 66 is great. If you say that you're coeliac, then they will make sure that there's no cross contamination with gluten.
G.
Loved it. Brilliantly decked out like an old American diner and the food choices were brilliant. All the usual suspects that you would think you would get in a diner.....and then some.
S.
Amazing food! Maybe need more staff members on shift 😅 the DM was really great!!
M.
What a amazing food and service by staff of diner 66. Was my first visit and just amazed me. My whole team personally thank to the staff and chefs and there name are Meika, Boston, Chivy and Tyla thanks for the great service guys.
Definitely come back to see you guys again keep up the good work☺️
K.
Loved the food, and the staff were friendly!
A.
A great place to get a taste of a classic American Diner. Retro fit out, Great food, bottomless coffee, great staff. The pancake stack is legendary as are the shakes, if you're counting calories this probably isn't the place for you but for us thoroughbreds, get in and dig in, you'll love it!
Apparently they also do salads, vegan and vegetarian options.......guess that's more burgers for me then!
M.
Diner style and service good. Very loud. Food tasty, especially the curly fries. Didn't get all we ordered.
N.
This place is better than some diners in America. They really have everything you would want on the menu. I loved the patty melt and curly fries.
R.
This was the state of the floor at 5.30pm. I've never seen a floor this bad when eating out, it wasn't just at out table either. Definitely a Diner, NOT a restaurant. Reviews regarding food quality are on point, Bland. Non exciting. Not hot. Nachos tasted like blended mince with no flavoring.. For us, this is a been there, done that, won't go back again place. One staff member was great, friendly and happy. The other - typical non stand out waitress. Milkshake was good, but I'll never get past the state of the floor. It would take 20 seconds for the waitress to sweep under the tables when re setting them.
K.
If you're a Yank longing for the BEST burger, fries and shakes in NZ, you must go to Dinner 66. We are from SoCal, in the US, and I must say the menu here is amazing. Be sure to talk to Kelum, one of the owners, he has the the concept and knack for great grub! Hmm, hmm good!
T.
What an awesome place, food was great, had the Arizona.
We have traveled the real Route 66 in the USA.
M.
Amazing place. Always come back, even travelling from Dunedin to come here :) perfect service and perfect food. Never change
C.
Great staff, fab service and delicious eats, we will be back, love the decor!
V.
Really friendly service and great food! I've recommended this place to so many people. Definitely an experience and a must-do in Christchurch. The coffee is great too!
P.
My experience here was awesome! Food is great and yummy. I love that there's a lot of choices not just on burgers. Staffs are amazing aswell. Waiting time may took too long but with friends you can talk to you wont notice it. 5 stars after all coz we we're satisfied :))
C.
Very cool decor - have def nailed the retro theme (although did remind bit of burger king). Curly fries were good, no salt or seasoning but I prob prefer to add my own, delicious tomatoe sauce mayo. Chicken wings you get 6 for $12, the hot is VERY got so only get if you like burning pepper spicy. Good caramel milkshake. Waitress we had was very nice & was very convenient that they bring EFTPOS machine to you, no paywave though unfortunately. Paper napkins were the cheap tiny type that you need at least 3or 4 at a time. Good for a snack or small bite, not sure I'd want to have a full meal here. Quite a lot of families. There is a plastic high chair for little ones.
N.
The food is what they claim it to be... american-style fried fast food. I don't think there's anything healthy on the menu (apart from the tea and coffee), but that's not what anyone goes there for. The fit out, decorations and staff uniforms are amazing! It really does feel like you're sitting in an American burger bar in the 60's. But, the food... it's ok at best, but very expensive for what you get. Let's just say, there's plenty of other burger places in the CBD that offer much cheaper and better quality burgers! But I'd suggest most people go to Diner 66 for the experience. I didn't like the tip suggestion box on the receipt when it came time to pay! Yes it's an American-style burger joint, but this is New Zealand - and staff members should be properly paid and not rely on tips like they do in the US.
C.
Great food and atmosphere. Friendly staff. Awesome experience.
P.
The tipsy milkshakes (smacks lips together) are worth it.. strong and yummy!
E.
The food is OK. Service is great and the setting pretty awesome
D.
Had to make a booking for today which came in handy as they were turning people away for a short while. So do make sure you make a booking for those busy periods. I had a mocha milk shake and it was delicious. There is a rather cool drinks menu to choose from and well worth coming in for. I had a burger and to be fair it wasn't anything fantastic but it wasn't bad. The meat pattie was quite dense and couldn't tell it was cooked (it was cooked though, just a different way of doing things). The other meals looked great. Rather large but that comes with the brand I guess. The curly fries are great but of course these aren't rocket science. All in all, a great experience, a couple of muscle cars pulled up (very nice), the staff are great and the decor is cool.
R.
Really awesome American place with the VERY BEST American styled thickshackes! The Southern buttermilk fried chicken in the burger was slightly overcooked though, hence the 4 star rating - but bloody delicious all the same :)
R.
Really liked this place. The food was fresh & tasty and also a reasonable price.
Service was friendly and there were plenty of staff rosters on to assist.
Decor is bright & cheerful and overall it was a fun place to have lunch
J.
We had breakfast there. It was good. Very authentic look and feel. Plates could have been warmed because the food got cold quick. Our bill was a mess at the end, another tables items charged to our table but that was easily fixed.
M.
Amazing food and service. Definitely worth the stop. Jumped up on my top 5 places in Christchurch.
D.
Awesome food from awesome staff and at a good price
N.
Arizona burger was okay, but unless you are okay with green poop for 3 days straight, you probably shouldn’t drink the unicorn milkshake
T.
I recommend going for a meal and a milkshake to make up your own mind, make a booking or else they won't let you in.
Milkshakes are still epic and I highly recommend them!
Edit: lowering my rating. We have dined here a few times and it seems to be getting worse. The wait staff are far less interested in doing their job properly, the food is average at best and the parking is a nightmare even at night.
R.
Amazing food, massive range and good price for the quantity.
K.
Birthday dinner here on a Saturday night. I suspect they were short staffed because service was quite slow in general. 15 minutes to get a drink order placed after being seated and maybe 15 to 20 before they arrived is pretty average really and these were beers and wines not shakes. We actually ordered more wine but it didn't arrive after another 20 minutes so we gave up. Meals ok. Thought the California burgers needed something in terms of flavor but maybe that's what they're shooting for. Can't complain about serving size.
R.
Interesting place ... American feel 😉
A.
Absolutely awesome, great service and great food.
T.
Dined there this morning in a small group of 4. The service was quick and with a smile, food was yummy, loved the decor and music, very retro...
Would have been nice if there were some lighter options like fruit salad or granola and yoghurt...but then again it is 'American style', and it was a little pricey.
Overall we were pretty happy with the experience. Thank you ♥️
T.
Absolutely loved the food we'll be back next visit
J.
This is a ok place. Few mistakes with my meal, I ordered skinny fries not curly, drink was ordered with no ice, and I recieved ice. Yea, they aren't big mistakes, but I do expect better from staff, it's a demanding job, but not a difficult job. The food is average, standard burger and hotdogs etc, but nothing to rave about. Kids enjoyed themselves tho
A.
Good food, nice tipsy shakes aswell good atmosphere and not badly priced, would highly recommend
G.
Unfortunately quite loud and crowded but otherwise delicious food with amazing decor.
D.
Absolutely fantastic, great service and quality food, thanks guys,
B.
Our office theamed rocknroll Christmas meal held at diner 66. Food great with tasty large portions and good quality. Good service with a smile. Will be back - well done.
s.
Food is good . But cleanliness is an issue. Doesnt look like its been moped in weeks.. staff walked over the tissues on the floor for the whole hour we were there . We were the first customers so no reason for floors like that.
K.
Great service, amazing food! Thank you Mikayla for your amazing service! Another great night out at Diner 66.
Z.
Lovely staff. The food was ok and a bit expensive.
P.
Good week priced meal. Forgot one of my drinks but the comp'd it without me challenging them. Meal was good honest USA diner food which is what they are based around
S.
Great food and service
N.
Fun atmosphere. Good service but took over 20 minutes to get our shakes. And they weren't thick (as you would expect of an American shake). To top it off, wrong flavors served to wrong people. Had to try it, but sadly wouldn't recommend.
M.
Not truly authentic American food but still delicious. And hits all the flavor nits your looking for in a classic American meal. Would recommend. I eat there often and I am American.
E.
Nice yummy food. You pay the price for the aesthetics though, you can find similar food cheaper elsewhere. But it’s still a cool place to visit ;)
S.
Great menu selection, well located, food fast to come and tasty, if deadly, with it.
Service was a little slow, but staff were very pleasant.
Next time I'm in Christchurch, I'm coming here! Loving the vanilla coke float and Philly steak sandwich! 😍😍😍😍
M.
This place had big meals for the price, very excellent meals. The lady that served us was amazing, I just lost my mum and she made us laugh and smile. My son doesn't talk much, but she crack a smile and a conversation out of him. Best customer service ever. Amazing place ever, will go back.
U.
Great food, good sized portions, excellent diner vibe, friendly wait staff, cool decor. A fun, cost effective night out but the whole tip prompting bit seemed a little unnecessary.
E.
First time coming here, for breakfast, with my 2 youngest kids. The meals were big and filling. Staff were lovely. Awesome American themed decor and cool music, definitely a good vibe. Thanks!!
C.
went here for my birthday breakfast an it was lovely. some ingredients were a bit overboard but loved the atmosphere 😁
J.
5 Star !! (5.5 Star for Me and 4.5 for my Wife)
Reuben (A NZ take, definitely not a NY Reuben but still great) and Tuna Melt Sandwiches plus a fantastic Peanut Butter Shake. All Awesome. Definitely be back here the next time we’re in Christchurch
ps - My wife’s 4.5 is for her Fries being over salted, so I made my rating 5.5 to make up for it !! : )
s.
Great location with ample affordable carpark and off street parking nearby. Located near the casino. Staff are attentive and friendly, caring and nice to young children, bring them colouring while we wait for food to arrive. Good portion reasonably priced. Awesome none alcoholic drinks list for both adults and children. Will definitely come again.
B.
It took awhile to get served which wouldn't usually be too much of a worry but it wasn't very busy and lots of staff were there just didn't seem interested in serving us. We ended up getting our own water and had to go up to the counter to ask for clean cutlery as the ones we were given weren't.
I got the waffles which were hard and dry like they'd been made a long time ago and completely dried out.
B.
Very nice themed restaurant. Very nice and well detailed atmosphere, with appropriately themed and time period offerings. The service was good and the staff was friendly. Average restaurant prices. Between 18-21 per main course meal. Average restaurant quality, though my meal was prepared surprisenly quickly. Short walk away from the city centre. Would recommend.
A.
At times I wonder if the first visit is not always a true picture of how good (or bad) a business is, so I waited until 3 visits before leaving this review. Simply put...this is a must visit in Christchurch! The staff are always so warm and welcoming - the only thing their uniform is missing is roller skates!
The diner itself is so incredibly well designed, nothing is out of place, and it truly feels like you are in the middle of America, especially once you get the menu. So many options, literally something for everyone - and the dairy free shakes are to die for, as are the specialty ones!
Will always be back, since the closure of Bootleg BBQ we have been itching to find another American style diner to enjoy the scrummy fried chicken, burgers and hot dogs - and this place will more than do!
K.
The food is good but feel like the service needs to be a little bit more smiley
R.
Great American style diner with friendly staff and great food & drinks
D.
Amazing fitout, perfectly captures that 50s American diner vibe. Friendly service. Big portions. Food itself is pretty average, but what are you expecting, it's fast food. Decent milkshakes.
D.
So unique!! Love the decor and theme! The food was great, huge portions! Really loved it!
L.
Big thick french toast with maple syrup, bacon & crispy chicken - it was delish!
Service great!
Place clean.
Took one star off for the eggs Benedict as the hollandaise sauce tasted like glue - we wont ever order that one again.
D.
Went for breakfast
Was pretty good! Breakfast burrito was an interesting dish and staff were very friendly.
Food was riddiculously fast out which was awesome
W.
Great atmosphere and just loved the decor.
Really enjoyed the food. Milkshakes, Hamburgers and Crispy Chicken Taco Salad was very good. First gluten free bun ever that taste good.
Service was excellent and 10 out 10 for Ella. Very helpful and friendly and just very good service.
Will definitely be a regular now.
M.
Delicious food,great beer,great wine,best milkshakes need I say more 😁
C.
A great place to come for dinner. I have travelled throughout the USA and this is by far the closest I have come to finding a US diner. Amazing Ruben's
A.
The burgers were okay. But I'm in love with their milkshakes!
Staffs were sweet and nice.
D.
Excellent authentic American diner. Bottomless coffee is all you need to know.
A.
Lovely breakfast, great atmosphere, and the staff seem so happy! Will definitely be back!
G.
They have classic American food here. The burgers are great and the curly fries are delicious. Their milkshakes are as close to American shakes as I've tasted in New Zealand. I would also recommend trying the Pile Up on the starters menu.
P.
Friendly staff seated us when we arrived.
Great diner environment with easy listening music playing
Great menu of American food and drinks.
Waiter offered good suggestions.
Could see through to the kitchen and a busy chef.
Food was served fast with a smile and laugh.
Nice food and drinks
Toilets clean
N.
Great friendly staff, cool atmosphere, authentic food & endless coffee. Recommended.
S.
Wow.. the food , ambience and the service is worth to go...
B.
It was nice. Your typical American style food.
R.
Great service. Good food. Bright white loud atmosphere. Bathrooms needed servicing when we visited. Might go back for breakfast sometime.
J.
My absolute favorite place ever, amazing customer service, the diner itself is really cool, food is delicious and has good pricing. The homemade lemonade with berry puree is to die for! Stopped in Christchurch on our way back to Wellington just to go here 💖
J.
Hot enjoyable meal, friendly staff & nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed by my bunch of friends. Thankyou we all enjoyed our meals.
E.
I ordered steak sandwitches. It was very nice. My son ordered california burger and he didn't want to have it so I tried one mouthfull of beef patty to see. It was very dry, chewy and I spittied myscle fibers like 3 times while chewing the mouthful.
G.
It was surprisingly a lot of food and was delicious. The Milkshakes were Killer
I.
Great meal and lived being able to sit outside
C.
Child friendly with a down to earth vibe and decent portion sizes!
B.
Diner 66 staff were polite and accommodating. The restaurant was clean but I thought the music was a bit loud. For salad lovers, I would recommend asking for the dressing on the side.
N.
The California burger and pancakes with berry compote were delicious.
Q.
Such good food! Most importantly they cater for ceoliacs, excellent gluten free options. Good Americana, just disappointed that the US Craft beers weren't there. Thanks Covid. Also Trump wasn't there so I guess it was net positive.
R.
Amazing food. Shame about the "bottomless coffee" we got charged for and no one topped it up or checked if we wanted more then one.
A.
The decor inside the restaurant is amazing and done to a very good standard. The service was fast and friendly. And the shakes were very yummy. However the food was a little disappointing. We ordered the pickles and onion rings to start, very greasy and a bit too much batter. My partner ordered the Philly steak which was very good, both looks and taste. I ordered the Oklahoma burger and found it was undercooked and slightly lacking in flavour. Worth a visit. But maybe just for shakes on a hot afternoon.
R.
Staff had great energy and were very friendly. The food was amazing, tasty and promptly provided. The atmosphere did a great job at capturing the diner vibe. The milkshakes were especially fantastic. The only downside was that they made two errors with our orders: We got the wrong appetizer and a drink we didn't order but that did not spoil our lovely time. An almost perfect 1950s/1960s diner experience.
C.
This place is soooo rock & roll!
Can honestly say for a family dining out this goes way above & beyond any expectations! Great Food, menu options and overall experience of that 50's Diner feel!
The Music was perfect!!!
Thankyou to the lovely lady who gave us the best service ever, she was the "Cherry on top!" Would highly reccommend Route 66!
Might not be everybodies cup of tea but it most definitely was for me 😆
S.
Awesome experience. Fantastic food and lovely staff
L.
Had lunch today there, lots of hungover Electric Avenue goers dining in. Busy environment. The girl with the skirt and dark hair was very present and she was calm and friendly even though it looked like she was very busy. Have been once before and was great that time too. Tried the chicken Benny today was decent. Only thing that I think let’s them down is the noise from the kitchen, sounded like a grinder going for ages which took away from the experience (it wasn’t like that the first time though) also the toilets are kinda bland compared to the rest of the decor. Other than that it’s a cool place to visit good for families too.
C.
Nice food and love the vibesss here. The dessert was nice but too sweet lol
M.
I went to Diner 66 with my American friend and we had a lovely time. The food was good but not great definitely American dishes but not really American style dishes. Milkshakes were milky rather than thick (milkshakes are thick shakes in America), curly fries and sauce were delicious! My friend got the Philly Cheese Steak but was not as saucy and filled up as they are in America. The banana split was my favourite out of everything we had. It’s a beautiful place but I expected more from the food. So really wasn’t worth its price.
Don’t have a lot to say about the staff because I was mainly served by one girl who was lovely. Wish I knew her name to give her credit. Other staff I didn’t pay much attention to. What I noticed though was that they were all teenagers. They didn’t seem majorly experienced.
M.
Was absolutely fantastic! The food was delicious and the staff super friendly. Definitely my new favourite place!
J.
Excellent experience, the staff were great, and polite, great American dinner experience with the Formica tables and drip coffee in a white mug. Love it.
B.
Dined Monday night and thought the food was decent, good portions and speedy service, what was a let down was the staff seemed more interested in chatting with each other than serving. Could hear the chef and blonde waitress flirting from our table. Would have ordered a second drink if I’d been asked. Will try again on a weekend and hopefully there is different vibe.
N.
Had breakfast this morning and all the staff were lovely and seemed to flow well together. Had a chat with the older waitress about our travels around NZ so far and the young boy who served us was very polite and efficient.
Great fluffy pancakes too.
K.
Really lovely, great service. Good pricing.
J.
Great food and service I went with a group of 10 and it was a blast there fry's are great but there deep fried mac and cheese balls are something you should definitely pass on. There milk shakes were amazing (its worth going just to get a milk shake) it was clean but the bathrooms are terrible there probably 2 square meters big. Besides that it's amazing. Make sure you to the toilet before you go.
C.
Went during the all you can eat pancakes. They were good, but I'm guessing the staff took a very long time to take our order and then check up on us, so that we didn't order any more pancakes. Felt like we were mostly ignored. Probably won't go back.
S.
Awesome food and a great atmosphere. We brought a group of 20 here for our NZ Detailers Conference in October and the booking and service was handled really well. Food was prompt and we were looked after brilliantly by the staff!
K.
Such good food defanitley recommend and a nice atmosphere
P.
JUst like visiting a Route66 Diner in the USA as I did back in 2015.
G.
Amazing diner and It's so cool inside! The stuff are so friendly and lovely to talk too. They are very professional, neat and tidy and the service is quite fast. The food and drinks are SO YUMMY! Best burgers and breakfast and drinks in town! The bookings get full very quickly!! I recommend you book online away a head so you don't want to miss out! I love coming to this place! I highly recommend it. :) :) :)
J.
Popped in later on a Saturday evening on the off chance we could get a table for two. Luckily one had just become available. Got served drinks and order taken quite promptly. We ordered Crispy Chicken Salad and a Patty Melt with straight fries. All the food came out in good time. Chicken was amazing. Salad was lovely but maybe just a little overdressed. Patty Melt was great. Bread was lovely (a brioche maybe) and a good amount of fries. Even though the place was still a little busy we were well looked after and couldn't fault the service or food. Worth the wait.
S.
I had a great first experience eating here! The woman that served us was so lovely and even checked in on us during our meals. My son was given felt pens and an activity sheet to keep him busy. The shakes and food were also amazing as well as the decor. The wait for our shakes and meals was less than 15 minutes too! I will definitely be coming back to visit the next time I come to Christchurch. Thank you!
S.
Lovely staff
Nice place
Yummy sandwiches
M.
Another burger experience! I love it!😁👍
S.
Dropped in for lunch as a group of 5. Personally had the Arizona burger and root beer. Table had the pile ups and more Arizona's and Texas. Service was generally good. It was busy being lunchtime and Friday so it was noisy. But it was pleasant enough. The Arizona burger was quite bland. In the way I felt like I need to plaster it with the table sauces to make it acceptable. It was lacking in something. I felt it was "sweetness" but I'm no chef. Rest of the table was mostly in agreement that the burger was a little bland for the price. No complaints on portions but would happily trade volume of food for more flavour.
S.
The milkshakes there are absolutely delicious, and I love love loooove the decor! The burgers on the other hand were a bit so-so (my partner had a chicken avocado burger which had no avocado in it and was quite dry). I would happily return for milkshakes and curly fries but possibly not a main meal. Also, I love the atmosphere inside with the staff dressed in the 60's - 70's outfits!
A.
Ambience and service were great. Food was a big disappointment - extremely over-priced vegan waffles, vegan milkshakes were not cold enough and lacking flavour, side salad that came with the burrito was very very oily. Curly fries were good.
L.
Went to Dinner 66 last night. Booked through their website at about lunch for 7pm we were put at a table that was so close to the pay station social distancing was impossible so asked to move. Our waitress Sam was great and sorted it for us.
We ordered a pile up and two burgers, when the food arrived it looked amazing, but, there's no seasoning on anything the mac and cheese balls were so bland. The jalapeno poppers and onion rings were great both our burgers were overcooked and my partners was ment to be 3 chilli hot and stuffed with cheese didnt have any chilli or cheese filling.
I would not go back the only reason I gave 3 stars is because of the waitress.
D.
Amazing Lunch experience!
Lovely decorated Diner (including the music), very tidy and great service. Big servings of very tasty food. Try the milkshakes!
Definitely going back there for Lunch or Dinner, probably pays to make a booking though, as often very busy.
C.
OMG... Eggs Benne was amazing!!!!
So good in fact, that we will certainly be returning.
Loved the Route 66 look, thats an experience all in itself.
R.
Really yummy food with generous portion sizing. Such a groovy little place with awesome American decor. Reasonable prices too.
M.
Nice and authentic atmosphere. Music was too loud.
A.
Went for milkshakes which were good. However service was below average, a lot of staff coming and going and a lot of chatter. Request for no straws was ignored...strange considering they sell stainless straws but use plastic?
N.
To be honest my experience was a little bit hit-and-miss. I think they nail it on the decor theme and the memorabilia hanging on the walls.
But food wise, I feel you’d most probably get a different experience each time you go.
I arrived with family and friends and we all ordered burgers from the menu. After a 40 minute wait, our burgers finally arrived but mine was sadly lacking substance - a meat patty with one strip of bacon, very little cheese. My friend’s burger however had three strips of bacon, loaded with cheese and more ingredients. Yet, ironically, it was the same burger ordered from the menu.
On the bright side the waitresses are reasonably attentive, and come across with a great attitude. Our waitress was full of smiles and was appreciatively patient as we worked our way through the menu.
But there’s an obvious lack of quality control over the food exiting the kitchen, which is also evident in the lack of plate presentation. Sure, it’s a burger bar, but even burgers and fries should taste primo and look much classier in a theme-based restaurant.
The new restaurant is in its infancy however so I would like to think it’s actively working through its birthing pains. Needless to say, going forward - the restaurant has the potential to become either a winner establishment with a clear point of difference in its theme, or just another Joe Average burger bar.
K.
I'm an American who visits NZ as often as I can, and I can confidently say this food is 100% American dinner food! I actually live just an hour south of where Route 66 crosses through Texas. The food is super yummy! They even had good 'ol American beers and Sodas like Root beer and Dr. Pepper. I spoke with the owner and she spent a lot of time in the US doing her homework to ensure everything was authentic. All the decor was even imported from the USA. So if you want an American meal with out the plane flight, go to the 66!
K.
I had waffles with fried chicken, bacon and maple syrup with an espresso milkshake. Everything my group ordered was good and the decor was cute.
L.
We had lunch there today. After all the hype I was left disappointed. They were fully booked but I noticed people on other tables were leaving their meals unfinished. The decor is fine but the tables are not big enough for 4 people with food & drinks. We had to remove the condiments tray & serviettes to get our plates on properly. I was presented with Benny Hers when I had ordered Benny His. The second plate came with toast bread instead of sourdough. Not ideal. Didn't complain the second time because everyone else had already finished eating. A friends burger was dry & overcooked & the pickles were missing. Our waitress was friendly & helpful. We won't be going back in a hurry.
N.
Everything about Diner 66 reminds you of 1960s USA. The decor is fabulous with retro styled tables, chairs and booths. The manager and staff were welcoming and efficient. We loved hearing the background of some of the food they have. There were 8 of us so we tried a whole variety of dishes and everybody loved it. Definitely returning!
J.
Decor is well done. Place is clean. For a breakfast experience, service is slow. Music far too loud and food average. Pancakes from the adults and children's menu are tasteless that fall to pieces and dissolve the minute the fork hits them. Bacon is hard, tasteless and stingey. Cream on top of milkshakes is canned and half melted by the time it gets to the table. For the price I expected a better overall experience.
M.
I’ve been to Diner 66 a number of times, for dinner and breakfast, and have never had a bad experience. I’ve been to a few American diners along Route 66 and this totally evokes the feeling of being in those, it’s very cool. Be prepared for American serving sizes!!! The milkshakes and floats are both divine and I especially enjoyed the chilli cheese fries, even if I could only eat half of them. If you book an outdoor table you can even bring your dog!!!
b.
Great breakfast and awesome service, 😊
S.
The decor is great reflecting a 50's style diner, complimented by the music of the era. Food is reasonably priced for the generous servings. Place is relatively small, so I would suggest booking to ensure a table. Servers were friendly enough, a little slow to seat us, and a little slow between our mains to come and ask regarding dessert (if you want repeat customers don't chat at the servery while customers wait). The doughnut waffles were ok, however only 1 small scoop of icecream was just not enough for a large portion (that was very disappointing!), even though there was cream. At least make the icecream on par with the cream amount.
I would go here again though (but not order that dessert)
d.
Great place. Great food.
J.
Great atmosphere. Really has the American Diner look and feel down to pat. Food is great and reasonably priced. Party of four for lunch for well under $100. Definitely going to re-visit. If you are after an American Diner experience that won't break the bank, then Go! You won't be disappointed!!
J.
Lovely staff. A lot of care taken to ensure Gluten free meals. Wonderful milkshakes too.
D.
Lovely cheerful friendly staff. Prompt seating and order taking. Generous serving size for breakfast menu and the burger was easier for a lady to handle with a knife and fork rather than picking up. Good strong cup of tea and lots of yum yums over the thick shake. Definitely worth a visit.
D.
If your looking for a great American style diner experience then look no further than Diner 66. They have a good breakfast menu with some delicious options. The French toast with bacon was delicious. They also do very good burgers and a range of awesome milkshakes (I would go back for the milkshakes alone). This is also a good place for kids as they have booths and a well thought out kids menu. The staff were welcoming and offered good service during a busy time. The prices are very reasonable. Overall worth a visit.
B.
Friendly and cheerful staff. Nice authentic atmosphere and decor. Meals were great value for money, well presented and very enjoyable. Overall a nice relaxing lunch.
Much appreciated and looking forward to returning very soon.
R.
Food was great loved the atmosphere. The only complaint was product knowledge of wine from the staff and when asking about a californian wine all we were told was it was a red and a type of brand. Maybe tasting notes for the staff as then more information could be passed on. Love this place will be back.
A.
Great service, always very friendly. I have visited twice so far and have been greeted and seated right away. Not too long of a wait for food and the food is great quality, good decent prices. 100% recommend for a nice treat for yourself, couples, friends and families to enjoy.
J.
Good food, apart from the hash browns. Pancakes were nice. And comes with a decent amount of Maple unlike Drexels.
L.
Love this place! Always remember to book before you arrive. Servings are large as o e would expect from and American food outlet. Would definitely go back more often.
L.
Fantastic service. Meals were presented well and quickly. Atmosphere was relaxed.
B.
Went during a quieter hour. Friendly staff and the delicious food really tied the experience together!
The American diner aesthetic was well executed, with the decoration and feel creating a somewhat authentic atmosphere to an actual American diner experience.
C.
the staff were lovely and made nice conversation. the food was great and there was big portions. i took some of my salad home and it still tasted delicious about 6 hours later. the vibe of the resturant was great and i loved the decoration. would reccomend.
A.
The staff and service are great and really friendly. The drinks are devine, but our main. When we left we could feel/taste the grease on the roof of out mouths. And it's $21 per burger. It's not a place that I would rush to go back to any time soon.
D.
Enjoyed the meal great service
F.
This place is ok. The chicken and waffles are delicious and ribs fall off the bone. The burgers are another story. You could get better burgers from burger fuel at half the cost. They gave me a burger with basically no filling (onions and Gerkins and salad) and for what you pay this was pretty appalling. Shakes are super sweet and sundaes are meh. The atmosphere is great.
J.
Not enough staff for the kind of prompt service you'd expect but that's somewhat made up for by the top notch and helpful staff they do have. Shakes are awesome and food's pretty good. The beef patties need a little something extra to bring out the flavour.
R.
Great American style food and old style diner atmosphere
M.
Great retro place to be... The spicy chicken nibbles are fantastic and finger licking.
D.
Nice meal great service thank you
P.
Great place. The food, drinks & service were awesome.
M.
If you go to Christchurch you have to go here! Really amazing food and the theme is really fun. Highly recommend is
C.
The atmosphere is nice, as a friend in my group put it; it's like an old Burger King but nice. The food is ok, possibly over priced for what it is but it looks like the sauces and a few other ingredients are imported so they might just be looking to cover that cost. A more traveled person of our group said it did taste like authentic diner food, but maybe that just isn't my palate.
S.
The food was very good when it arrived but service was slow and they forgot our shakes, the shakes were good when they arrived and they took the price if the shakes off the bill. The staff seemed more interested in socializing than working. I was disappointed as had been looking forward to trying it out.
S.
Diner 66 is one of our go to restaurants, the food has always been consistently great. Staff has always been accommodating, friendly and eafer to please. Everything on the menu is fantastic, especially their burgers and curly fries. Always a 10/10!!
s.
First time trying this place. Super impressed with staff attitudes and food...well...these guys outdo drexels hash browns by miles...Will be back
S.
Decor fun & staff wonderful. Biscuits & gravy were a little to be desired, but then I’ve lived in the South USA where it’s traditional. Would definitely go back for other menu items which look tasty!
S.
It's fine if you go in expecting a diner experience. Captures the simple, no frills style well, lots of cool theming and the food is good but it's not a fancy place. Toilets could do with a tidy too, but wouldn't put me off going again. Staff friendly.
T.
Great food, great service, great venue. Amazed how good this place was for the value. Great customer service with quick food service. Food tasted great with big serving sizes. In and out in 30 minutes while it felt like a full restaurant experience. Will def be back.
D.
If only the dis booze for brekkie as well
K.
Awesome burgers, friendly staff, great atmosphere, highly recommend!
C.
Visited a few times and the food has been great. The service has been lacking of late however (slow and stuff I asked for was not received at all, also wrong orders). It is often difficult to get a reservation.
Edit: they’ve improved the service now and reservations are a bit easier too!
J.
Great atmosphere and really friendly staff. The food was good and the portion sizes were awesome, really good value for money. I think they really hit the nail on the head with the decor and the music. Will definitely be going back again soon.
M.
Amazing atmosphere interesting choices and good prices
K.
Was surprised to find it is delicious! I was skeptical and put of going for months with the classic "It will be greasy" idea in my head, however was pleasantly surprised with the extensive menu.
N.
The place is so cool and there is a great vibe and the staff were uber friendly. We had the buttermilk chicken to start it was so tasty and tender, the dip was really nice too. However, the burgers we got were way below average! I got the New Mexico burger, unfortunately the tortilla chips inside were stale and I had to remove them from the burger, to be honest the burger was like it was cooked yesterday and heated up! My partner got a California which is a cheese burger with sauce and pickles, also way below average and didn’t taste freshly made. The curly fries sorry to say we’re horrible and I think stale also. I will give it another go though based on the chicken, hoping it was a one off. :(
P.
Well themed and great service from waiters. There is a good selection of milkshake flavors and food. Would highly recommend for any age.
S.
Food was good big breakfast wasn't that big
Not like a real dinner. But close.
Coffee ☕ was good 👍
C.
The food was a bit bland but 4 stars for great service, unlimited coffee and cool decor!!! 😊
S.
Friendly staff, found the food quite expensive for a simple meal.. Beautiful interior ❤
u.
I loved this place! There were so many gluten free, Dairy free options for me at no extra cost, food was good, portions were large and the service was alright
S.
Wow Diner 66 is amazing, takes me back to when my partner and I did our own twist of route 66 in America last year. The staff here are all so lovely, so friendly and welcoming. They were all booked out tonight but managed to find us a seat outside. The food was so delicious, nothing negative to say. Well done and congratulations on your first night being open. Will be telling everyone to come to this Diner.
A.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Service was a hit or miss depending on who serves you but otherwise great place!
M.
Yum as love it .. got all the little cheesy halopino balls omg so yum.. fizzing
L.
Best Diner in Town!!! It has the Best Food and especially the best milkshakes. Great layout and awesome vibe when you first walk in. When you first dine their you couldn't resist yourself from coming back. The service is Great and the staff are so freindly. I can see this diner expanding and turning into the most popular diner in Christchurch!!! Thanks Diner 66.
t.
Milkshakes were very good, burger was too flat though; couldn't order the burger separate either.
N.b. I went on opening week when things were busy and rushed, but I'll def' go again once they've had some time to get comfy.
C.
Really bland food, and the staff were messy, there are no real uniforms and what they were wearing was untidy. Large woman in the kitchen had hair over her face over, should be wearing a hair net. Love the decor but won't be coming back
E.
Good food and really good diary free milkshake! The service was quite average considering how quiet it was. Menu needs to be a bit clearer on allergens such as gluten in the vege pattie
V.
First time dining there for me, my wife and the kids! Would highly recommend this place! Had a great meal and great customer service!!! Will definitely come back again with the wife and kids!!!
H.
We had a great night! The food was great, the staff were great and we totally plan to come back and try some more greatness! Heaps of food for our money and struggled to decide what to have so will definitely be back to work our way through the menu. Wear stretchy pants.
J.
I've been here a couple of times now and both times have had good, fast service and excellent food. It's in a great spot and seems to be pretty busy most of the time so I recommend you should book
A.
The closest thing to the real American Dining experience in Christchurch!
I bring my visiting friends here when they come and they all seem to love it.
They are often packed so it would be smart to book ahead on their website or by calling. Else you may find yourself waiting for a table.
B.
Mikayla, Sam and Tyler were our servers, they were great! It was a fun evening and the food was exceptional! Loved it.
B.
Service was great the staff were awesome but unfortunately the food was left to be desired. The loaded fries were a ton of fries with melted cheese dumped in the middle of it. On the other hand it was the personnel touch that made worth while
A.
Chilli cheese steak was absolutely delicious.
E.
This place is amazing, the food was good sizing and tasty, the service was amazing. We were served by Boston who was absolutely amazing. We will definitely be coming back.
L.
Food was nice. Sadly understaffed.
Also there was a pile of dirty glasses piling up on counter which was gross.
P.
Food is delicious with huge portions. Staff is friendly and helpful. Will DEFINITELY be coming here again
J.
Great food, big helpings and amazing shakes. The staff are lovely.
L.
Decided to visit here on a recommendation from a friend. Well, it was a great recommendation that's for sure! Friendly staff, fast service and tasty meals. I couldn't try any deserts as I was full on the appetizer, burger and shake. Will be back for sure!
D.
Visited the diner last Thursday.Loved the atmosphere and there is a great choice of food.
Great friendly service from Sam . looking forward to going back soon:)
D.
That was the best milkshake and fries I’ve ever had in my life. Every sip of that milkshake was honestly the best moments of my life. All the variety flavours to chose from made it even more enjoyable. 100% coming back again.
H.
We heard about diner 66 and took the opportunity to visit and have lunch. We were greater straight away but didn't have a booking, the bar had 5 seats I said, waitress agreed but said we could sit outside so we agreed. All the set up was great! Outside was nice. We were seated and asked if my 2yr old would like to color, yes sure I said but took asking for a children's menu for that to all come together. We were given a few minutes then asked of ready to order! No we needed more time to decide, this was repeated 3 times which was fine but waitress apeared annoyed, specially when I asked questions she didn't know about the food which delayed our order till she found out. Once we ordered including dessert we proceeded to look around, I looked for a jukebox but found not and asked why no music, the reply sadly was the staff are over it! Hmmm. Heard 2 songs in time we were there. Staff did seem on edge. Anyway order arrived, loved the mixed basket of onion rings mac n chs and chicken. The kids nachos were ok but meat dry and odd taste. Hoping the patty melt wasn't the same meat but it was! Not anything like the all American patty melt. Vege burger wasn't to flash either, lacking substance. I did ask before main what meat they used and process to which was unknown other than free range and told a chef will come visit to answer my questions but didn't arrive. Dessert the Elvis sundae was delicious but a little mift as to why no cream. I believe diner 66 can become great over time with the right team working together. I'll check you out again. Thankyou for the time.
A.
Fantastic diner loved the Philly Cheese steak sandwich
A.
Food was decent and had massive portions. They do bottomless diner coffee but having the espresso option would've made a world of difference.
S.
Such an awesome night for my sons 13th birthday dinner! The staff were absolutely amazing, the food was generous sizing and yummy, the milkshakes were divine and the pizookies yum yum yum! Thank you!
F.
Great atmosphere and staff were lovely. Kids would love it. Food was average, not bad but not worth the price. The elvis sundae I had was not as impressive as I Imagined.
B.
Great service and lovely shakes and desserts. Snacks weren't great, mostly deep fried stuff. Burgers looked good but did lack salad etc
S.
Very nice food lovely stuff
J.
Great to see such happy staff. Enjoyed our meals too.
P.
We came in for breakfast. Great fast, friendly service and tasty (though by no means healthy) food. Great atmosphere and decor too. Highly recommended.
L.
Awesome American style diner. Great food. Good size portions.
M.
Loved everything about it! Food was yummie, big portions and very reasonable. Can't wait to go back and try something else on the menu!
C.
The food was fine, the service was very casual, the menu is extensive and the theme and food are what you would expect. Large meals and great shakes.
T.
thanks Dayna for helping make our evening enjoyable. turning up with a couple of extras at the last minute but nothing was a problem for dayna who quickly looked at changing tables etc to sit our group. enjoyed our meals and had a great time. will definately be back
L.
Mikayla was super lovely, patient and helpful with our table of eight. Thanks for making my brother's birthday today great!
J.
Amazing food very very worth the prices great atmosphere and real groovy vibes in there would definitely recommend for someone wanting a good meal or even a date
D.
The décor was great and the service was good but after hearing all the hype I wasn't impressed. Food was average at best. The milkshakes were the saving grace for me..... Wouldn't rush back.
E.
Absolutely love this place! Their food, service, and ambience are straight up awesome. Not to mention the prices are so reasonable for the portion sizes. Highly recommend to anyone with an appetite.
S.
Great food. Nice servers. Coeliac friendly! The staff know their food allergies!
J.
Lovely staff! And great prices especially for the amount of food/drink you get
C.
Best chocolate walnut brownies in town!
C.
First visit at Diner 66 today. Had an awesome meal and the milk shakes were fantastic. Well done to the team today you did amazing. Will definitely be back in the very near future.
J.
We loved our night out at Diner 66. Staff were lovely and food was delicious. Best shakes around!!
G.
Great menu for breakfast/brunch and lunch. Not so good for dinner.
A.
Staff seem lovely and helpful. Food isnt great if you're used to American style food anywhere else, just doesn't compare. Just average food with lovely service.
S.
Fantastic dining service, Sam who served me was polite, friendly & amazing. Food was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend, dining here.
G.
Great service and great food again. Definitely worth going back.
N.
Refused to serve me and my kids because we didnt reserve a table. Shame. There were three tables that were reserved but empty. I dont understand how you can turn away people wanting to eat from your restaurant. I would love to see them do away with their reservation policy
J.
The atmosphere was great, the staff were exceptionally friendly, and the food couldn't have been better. Visiting here was a real treat, and I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Christchurch.
L.
Fitted out really authentically, but service and food was lacking. 40 minutes to be served breakfast and quality of ingredients was average. Overall pleasant atmosphere, ok experience.
G.
What a great dinner. All sorts of flavours to choose from for your milkshake. Not shy with the portions as well. Definitely worth the visit.
E.
Really cool American diner, love the retro vibe and food was really decent - pretty much what you’d expect for American diner food. The milkshakes were fantastic and there’s a huge variety of flavors!
S.
Long wait for drinks. Just one poor guy making drinks for 10 . Not sure why waitresses couldn't assist. They didn't appear to be busy. Decor and atmosphere great. Food great .
A.
What an amazing place to eat.. great atmosphere, beautiful set up, staff are so friendly and helpful.. food is yummy.. can’t fault.. will be back real soon.. well done on a great experience diner 66
K.
Great friendly service.. An amazing place
j.
Mac and cheese bites are amazing. Portion sizes are also quite big so try not to over order. Does get very busy on the weekends so do expect a bit of wait for food.
N.
If your going for the food its ok but i went just for the milkshakes and there is no other place for milk shakes
A.
Food was good, beer was something different to the norm.
T.
Decor is AWESOME. Music was great. Service was average along with the food. We waited over 30 mins for our drinks and ended up getting the the food first
M.
Absolutely great place, staff were amazingly friendly and eager to help, food was great. Can't wait to go back
E.
Staff are friendly and the music is nice. Plenty of nostalgia for the old-school Burger King asthetic. 😊
D.
Wonderful food great staff, lively atmosphere
T.
We had no problems here but 1 person in our party of 11 did with her desert which was not resolved. We also requested rock n roll songs as soon as we arrived of which only 2 were played during the 90 minutes we were there. In comparision Cruisey Days Diner in Oxford about 40 Ks away played heaps of rock n roll while we were there hence next time we get together for a meal we will take the drive to the country.
L.
Service was very friendly and helpful, food was great with a good variety.
I have revisited Diner 66 unfortunately I was not impressed with them this time last time they were very busy this time they were not and service was slow 3 tables sat with dirty dishes and glasses for most of the time we were there the floor was dirty food was ok but not great I wi not be back
F.
Went to this cafe for my husband's birthday, food was OK, but really did the staff step out of high school they did little more that lean over the counter and talk and why did they have to continually walk past with rubbish, boxes etc through out our meal.. a disappointment.
A.
It's is my fave restaurant you don't have to wait long for your food and the waitress are friendly and polite and they always get you everything you want with your meal and the food is cheap and affordable
D.
Great dinner at the diner! Food came out really fast which was great for the kids. There is a parking spot open to the public after 5pm directly opposite the dinner on Victoria Street which we'll be parking in next time.

Good concept but at the end of the day it was just an average burger. Staff need to remember there is customers in the restaurant who don't really enjoy them trying to sing.

Great, friendly, welcoming staff, fun atmosphere and good good. Only comment would be for smaller, kid friendly deserts for those with eyes too big for their bellies!

Really filling food with great service at a great price! Had lunch there and was full for the rest of day.

Very good food, in a good atmosphere. Could only be improved if the waitresses were on roller skates 😉

Awesome to find something this good in Christchurch. Great authentic diner food the way it’s meant to be. A lot of the other reviews don’t seem to understand what an American diner is.

Great atmosphere, friendly, helpful staff and great food at a good price. We loved it!

Today was our second visit and it was as great as the first. We had a couple of excited pre schoolers with us and the wait staff were all lovely and seemed to enjoy having them there which is very welcoming.

We had a fantastic time. Meals were great and filling. Great happy accommodating staff. Highly recommend. Thank use all

Awesome theme for restaurant, reminds me of Jonny rocket in USA 🇺🇸
J.
Loved the the food and atmosphere we had a family birthday for our grand daughter. She was given a special Sundae with sparklers which made it extra special for her
L.
Great meal Great staff great atmosphere
A.
not flash, meals were not good, dry and over cooked, service not good, no eye contact or smiles, felt processed.
M.
4 of us had different meals and we can all say that they were amazing. The atmosphere was lovely and the service lovely. A good lunch venue for sure
A.

Yummy food.. Generous helpings. I tried the buttermilk chicken. Try it! It is so succulent... Awesome place

Don't really see the hype of this restaurant 🤔 My friend loves this place. For me the food is very mediocre and overpriced.
I would have given you 1* but because of your friendly staff you get an extra 2 points

This place can be described as the 80s lost something and NZ found it. A blast from the past in the best kind of way.
T.
Fantastic place busy and bustling great friendly service wonderful food and good value wait staff so attentive fantastic drinks definitely will be returning soon not a quiet cafe though more fun and light hearted

10/10!! Definitely recommend! Meal was amazing! And the prices were awsome!!💕
R.
Really tasty and staff are exceptional friendly and nice. They have high chairs for your bubbas only problem I saw was prices are a little high but I guess you gotta pay a little for perfection :)
D.
Very nice food. Service was a little slow but they where very busy with dinner rush so that is understandable. Thanks for a great meal
R.
I had the ribs, but there unfortunately was a lot of sauce and that overpowered any of the subtle rib flavor that might have been hiding.
B.
Fabulous food. Amazing decor and great staff.

Found this restaurant pretty average. We were expecting a real American dining experience but found it was just like food you could get at other establishments. A bit disappointing really.
C.
Incredible setting with equally great food.... but I love the American Dinner vibe so probably bias 😊
B.
Good portion size but someone really needs to look at the toilets they are being used as a storeroom and public toilet which were really dirty
N.
Loved this place. Food was really nice and the servings were great. Great Gluten free options for people like me who have Coeliac disease. Will definitelt be back
B.
Great milkshakes. Unfortunately service was slow considering there were 4 people on shift and only 3 tables seated
A.
Cant say anything about the food, couldnt get in. Walked in , plenty of empty tables, was told they couldnt seat us. Walked past 45mins later after eating elsewhere and still had plenty of empty tables.. I got the feeling they couldnt cope with a full house and turned people away. Reading some of the other reviews , I may be right.. May try another time, but may not
J.
Always great food and service. It's a easy go-to place for any occasion!
P.
Generally good food although a little overly salty for a few of the dishes. The waitress constantly asked if there would be anything else while we were eating, which was annoying.
R.
Fabulous restaurant with great food and friendly staff. Was there on open day so very busy and they had a few delays getting food out but staff where very informative and kept customers in the loop.
G.

B.

A.
Best experience and the staff are lovely.
Don't normally like bacon but honestly this place has changed my mind. Definitely coming back.
C.
Foods ok. Waitress was very busy and not very friendly..waited 30 min ish for our foods to be served.
D.
Glad I tried it as I've wanted to since it opened, but I likely wouldn't go back. The staff were really lovely! The place could do with good cleaning though.
C.
Most of the food was fairly lackluster HOWEVER dinner was saved by the Mac N Cheese Balls and the Cookie desert which carried the whole dinner. The rest of the meal accounts for only half a star.
J.
Rode a scooter to get here, food was yummy, atmosphere was on point and the staff enjoyed there roll in it all! Must visit!
