J.I've been coming here with my partner to eat the lunch special (Butter Chicken) $15 and Teka Masala lunch special $15 both with Nun for the last few months and we have always been welcomed to dine in and eat.
The customer service is friendly, preparation time is good timing also, no longer than 10 or 15 minute wait for the food to be ready.
The rice and butter chicken is always set to a high standard, the presentation is set nicely and tastes great, with a variety of different spicyness (asked when ordering) from no spicyness to really spicy.
C.Flavour is average, ordered hot but taste more to medium spicy (probably more to kiwi level of spicy) , lunch special menu not considered cheap as compared to many other Indian restaurants, also it doesn't cover vegetarian option, so we need to pay the usual higher price. Anyway staff is polite and the place is clean.
S.Excellent service, very friendly staff. Well presented place. Busy evening but we felt welcomed and looked after. Food was great, mild curry was definitely very mild so if you want a bit of a kick go for medium!

N.Consistently delicious takeaways. We order the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and balti chicken with coconut milk — absolutely divine! The chocolate naan is also surprisingly tasty and makes a great dessert.

S.The food is stunning the best Indian restaurant I have been to. We got takeaways. They said 15 to 30 minutes to get our order. It took 90 minutes. Otherwise it would be a 5. Go early or ring the order. Better just go early before 1800.

E.We were amazed that an Indian restaurant existed in Twizel. It has an unusual name but this is well explained on the menu. The food took a while to come but the paneer, jalfrezi and the naans were very tasty.

c.Fantastic Indian food. I was surprised to come across an Indian restaurant in this small town, but viola here it was. After missing out the previous night as the place was too full and we didn't get reservation, we decided to go early the next night and boy I am glad we did.
The food is one of the best Indian food I've had in new zealand (other being Bombay palace in Queenstown). We had the paneer kadhai with garlic naan and dal tadka. The portions were perfect, both entrees came with rice and the garlic naan was full of garlic, very soft and well made. Not even one small part looked uncooked.
I would recommend this to anyone visiting twizel or mount cook to try this place out. One advice is to reserve the table in advance as they get very crowded and it's a small place.
J.Impressive. The menu offers a broad range of Indian dishes. It's a good selection and offers plenty for vegetarian diners as well.
We had a simple meal; chicken saagwara and tarka dhal, with garlic naan. The curries were very tasty, the naan bread made to order.
Mains are priced around $19 NZD each. Rice is included with every curry dish ordered though, so it's well priced.
The venue is licensed and has a small but sufficient selection of beer, wine and spirits. Non alcoholic drinks including lassi are of course available too.

D.I ordered the chicken korma, and the chicken in it was the best chicken I’ve ever had in a curry. Perfectly cooked, highest quality, and so tasty! What an incredible surprise while on a road trip through the South Island!

C.Were staying a couple of days in Twizel. We had read great reviews on this restaurant so decided to try. Could not fault. Service and food were great and enjoyed the indian music being played in background. Would certainly visit again when in area.

Lastly they don’t skimp out on anything. If you get chocolate naan you will get CHOCOLATE naan. If you get mango chicken you will get LOTS of chicken and the most delicious mango curry of all time!

J.A great find if you like Indian food. We enjoyed a delicious meal yesterday and are going back again this evening. If you like Indian and find yourself in twizel make sure you have a meal here. In addition to the great food the service was friendly and efficient and the place was busy.

I.Where to begin. Well first, our expectations were sky-high and this place exceeded them with flying colors.
Probably the best Indian food I've ever eaten, anywhere.
Really accommodating staff - stayed almost an hour past closing to ensure that everyone had the experience they wanted, without compromising quality of either service or food.
Fine ambiance with soothing Indian music playing in the background. Not pretentious or over the top at all.
A diverse group of happy people filling the restaurant.
And by the way, the butter chicken was perfection.

M.Recommended! No atmosphere as it’s a small place but good food. Friendly service. Best lassi, my fave so far, the way I like it; not too thick not too sweet! Onion bhaji also very good. Korma delicious. Naan not bad either :)

The plain naan and lassi were good as expected. The butter chicken was so delicious! I would have enjoyed the mild version more as it's a lot creamier and easier to enjoy if you don't feel like you can handle spicier.

M.Me and my friend had take away from here a few days ago. It was so good I've been wanting to rate it since. My favourite food is Indian curries and so I have had it many places in the world, although not in India to be fair. This place made the by far best Chicken Kadai I have ever had. And is only beaten on a general level by an eat in experience of a rather exclusive indian experience in London. Perfect flavour, great consistency and perfectly adjusted to be as hot as I described and hoped for. And a generous amount of chicken pieces; as it should be.
There was an hour wait on the food but we were told when we ordered so we had the choice. But I saw tonnes of people walking into the restaurant so it was to be expected. When I tasted it, I didn't care about the wait.
I am surprised this place doesnt have many reviews. They make good food. Worth the $17 for a take away curry and rice. I say that while normally paying $13 for a great curry in Dunedin.
C.Hands down the best bought curry I've had (lamb pasanda). Wait time took a bit longer than was mentioned but definitely worth the wait.

J.One good experience here (phone order, decent enough food, ready upon arrival) and one bad experience (order in store to take away, decent enough food but 55 minute wait for our 2 person order). This time we saw multiple other people leaving while waiting to order due to lack of tables and long wait time just to place an order, and several tables were asking how far away there food would be. 1 star, 4 star = 2.5 star average. Rounded it up as the bad experience could be due to unforeseen sick leave etc.

Recently visited Twizel on holidays with my brother and we found this restaurant on Google. We really enjoyed the food that we ordered, with the standout being the Chicken Tikka entree served with mint sauce. The food arrived quickly and service was great even though the place was reasonably busy.
C.My partner and I grabbed takeout to each on the lovely picnic benches in the courtyard outside the restaurant. We had the dhal makhani and the Chana masala. We both thought the Chana masala was the best we'd ever had.
The value was also excellent; the portions were quite generous. We made a meal and a half out for ourselves out of it. Would highly recommend!
m.Excellent Indian cuisine, best Sag Paneer ever, and I eat alot of Indian. Waiter/manager friendly despite being very busy. Will try to go again while I'm in NZ.

A.What an amazing surprise. Sleepy Twizel has a new restaurant that sets it apart from all others. Not that there's anything wrong with a burger at the pub but.... fish trails is one of those rare Indian restaurants that does an amazing range of Indian dishes. Beautifully balanced spices with just enough bang for your buck.
We ordered the butter chicken and lamb saag for mains. The samosas were delicious as was the naan and poppadums.
This restaurant is a rare find anywhere? I hope the locals and visitors to Twizel take the time to try Fishtail. They won't be disappointed.

J.As someone from the SEA region who is familiar to Indian food, Fishtail is REALLY GOOD!! We had lamb madras, chicken briyani and a cheese & garlic naan. The naan is definitely one of the best that I’ve had. Staff service is very friendly too!

I was talking to a local and he mentioned that there is a Indian restaurant. However customer service and the food was good.
