I believe this is the best Chinese restaurant in Christchurch. I came here all the time when I visited Christchurch. My family and I really enjoyed the red bean bun, phoenix feet, fried kuey diao and prawn dumpling during yum cha. The evening meal was fantastic too. We enjoy the freshness of the vegetable dishes, lobster with noodles and meat are well cook. Good job.

Good food and cooperative management. We had booked the restaurant for my friends wedding reception. Everything was great except the waitress assigned to us was very rude. As I was coordinating the event partially, her attitude towards us made my excitement take a dip. 3 stars only because of her attitude.

This is a happening place in Christ church. Huge and a lot busier on weekends. We went on a sunder afternoon and it was full and people were waiting outside. Food was delicious. So loved it. From dumplings to sticky rice and a lot of stuff I don't even know the names to. So good. So satisfying. Loved it. But the staff who served the food was a bit rude to us. Otherwise it was a good experience.

I came here with some colleagues on a trip. The amount of food that we got was great! We could barely finish everything. Overall the food quality was really good and the servers spaced out the dishes quite well, so that we were never waiting for something to come out. A good experience!

My Chinese friend took us here for his birthday.. This is a Cantonese restaurant with ton of space and good environment.. People usually come here for having brunch.. Has good food not mind blowing or anything that's my Chinese friends opinion (in terms of authentic) I liked it.. Some types of foods were really good and some were meh.. But overall a positive experience.. You can sit here chat for a while enjoy good time.. I am not an expert on authentic Chinese food but in my opinion it was a 6. 5 /10 experience..

Food is really really good, huge servings, plenty enough to share with everyone. The parking can be a bit tricky as they get quite busy. There is roadside parking on Matipo Street. The service is great once you get served but that can take a while (they do get quite busy so it is to be expected) the set menu is ideal for groups. You get a taste of everything - definitely recommend!

Went to Yumcha with Hubby on Sunday. Arrived 2.25pm, almost closing time. Managed to order food, generally good, just the pastry of the shrimp dumplings were all broken. Other dishes eg beef tendon, chicken rice parcel as well as spinach dumplings are all very yum! Service can be improved.

Yummy dumplings. They bring dumpling cart just pick your favourite dumplings up from the cart. Was very busy had to wait by the entrance no staff approched to explain how long we needed to wait...that's I took away one star.

The only disappointment was the dumplings tasted l fried and you could taste the oil and they don't come with dipping sauce. I love this place. The closest you'll find in Christchurch to a Hong Kong experience. Don't expect careful and attentive service, do expect ruthless efficiency, the odd funny mistake and great food. Lots of great food. Fresh, delicious, fast and fun. Best with a big group so you can sample plenty of dishes. No worries over doggy bagging any leftovers either. Enjoy!

Went here on a work dinner outing. I'm not a huge fan of this sort of cuisine so I was a bit nervous. However the food that the boss had ordered was actually not bad and I had a good feed. The interior is nice an modern and the service was good.

The food is amazing in this place, their selections are massive. I enjoyed the atmosphere at this restaurant. The only two things I noticed were the lack of attention to the customer, they are not very active in interacting with the customers needs and secondly I noticed a camera inside the restroom area pointing towards the restroom. I come from the USA and it's against the law to Install cameras inside restrooms, maybe it's different here in New Zealand.

This is a great place to go for Sunday Yum Cha. The good food keeps coming endlessly. Ended the meal with a baked custard bun. These were so good we just had to take some home, together with steamed buns. My diabetes will not like this.

Food is delicious, quickly served and not too overpriced. Most staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient although there were 2-3 that seemed like they really didn't want to be there. Needs a few more smiles!

Had dim sum here for lunch, the food is good and reasonably priced. They have heated food carts going around so you get the food very quickly. Car park may be tricky to find if you come at the busy hours. The baked custard bun is superb.

The starf where inviting and friendly, able to a answer inquiries and make Grate recommendations. We had the Deep Fried Squid 🦑 Tentacles, Fried Duck 🦆 and nudles, chicken 🐔 and ginger with rice 🍚 and a bowl of Pork 🥩 and vegetables Congee 🥣, All where amazing and delicious. The duck 🦆 was Moist and crispy, the chicken 🐔 was succulent, the 🦑 Tentacles where ice and crispy. Finally we had a recommendation of the Tiramisu with ice cream to finesh the night (at 12:00am) We will be going back again , and recommendding this place to our friends

Came there on a Saturday 11am (opening time). Yum cha was ready, with lots of choices. The heated trolleys come and go incessantly from table to table. Food is first class - probably the best yum cha I had ever (and I had hundreds, in various countries). Reasonably good choice of wines. The premises are airy and modern. Reassuring cleanliness. 100% recommended! I plan to be back with a group of friends.

The restaurant is likely the largest Chinese restaurant in terms of space and capacity. They do events like weddings etc. Good yum cha lunches. Owner and host is likely one of the loveliest people you'll meet making you feel welcome anytime you are there.

Vivian and the team run Madam Kwongs very well! Love the Yum Cha/Dim Sum cart experience. We absolutely love the shrimp rice noodle rolls - it's got its own dedicated cart, that's how good it is. The standard dim sum dishes are pretty great too (har gow and shumai).

“Pretty average” I was excited to visit as Christchurch really needs a good yum cha with trolley service but it was pretty average, I've eaten at many yum cha restaurants in Sydney, Hong Kong and even Taiwan and expected a little bit more. I felt that the dumplings weren't made on site as they were probably bought, I ordered deep fried squid which is normally salt and pepper squid and the portion size was dismal. Oh well; just have to go overseas to eat yum cha, wont go back to Madam Kwong's.
