I don't usually like Mexican but this was an exception. Cornchips and dip was yummy, skewers, chicken and prawn tacos were delicious. The fish dish was tasty, a little dry on the edges around the plate but overall loved the experience and food.

Really good customer service. My husband has autism and we ask for another table and straight away they got the table prepared. They said go to the bar if we like to get our drinks. Straight away the bar lady told us the specials. Then our table was ready and they brought over our drink. Then we ordered straight away. The food was really nice and same with our slushie drinks. First time I've given a 5 star rating. We will be back.

From the moment you walk in, to the ambience, drinks, food, music everything, but most importantly what adds to the awesome vibes of this place, are the wonderful friendly staff, each and every one of them... this place is a must if you're in Christchurch. We were there from Auckland last Saturday night and we will definitely be going back! We were lucky, we managed to get a booking about 2 hours before. So best to book in advance as it gets very busy. Try everything on their menu 😍 🍸🍹🌮🌯🇲🇽 🙌🙌🙌

Loved the food and the vibe! Tables are bolted against wall seats, can be a super tight fit and slide into position. Photos can be interesting with the wall art. Will be back.

I recently went out for dinner at Mexicanos. My partner and I both enjoyed the food and the service we received was amazing. Our waiter Alehandro suggested we try this frozen mango drink which was way nicer than the coke I had planned to get. Being Mexican himself he was able to explain the different things on the menu. I really enjoyed the tacos I ended up ordering.

Overall we had a lovely time, but that was more to do with the company I think. Food was yummy and would bring me back, however they are very small portions and not alot to them, however cost wise I didn't think it was to bad. The venue itself has a lovely charm to it, but we were seated at a high table, very uncomfortable seats, you have to sit on your jackets or scarfs etc, half way through I found the hooks under the tables for bags which was great as there was nowhere to place them. We kept getting bumped into, I got hit with a serving tray on my back, my friend got knocked numerous times as the staff were passing to go to other tables. Also, the tables are so close together that when clearing glasses etc the staff are right on your shoulder. Another got knocked near her face when plates being cleared. Our server from the get go was not very personable, not at all friendly and unless we got her attention (which felt very rude) we were never asked if we wanted more drinks, how everything was going etc, I sat on one wine for 2 hours! No dessert menu given, and she started clearing the table while some were still eating, also went to take a plate of food that was being eaten from. There were a couple empty tables which is why I think we were allowed to stay 2 hours, but it definitely didnt feel like she wanted to keep us there. The staff member at the till was the opposite, very friendly and much more approachable.

f you want to taste Mexican food, it is a great choice. We are the only ones eating at 7pm. Includes drinks and popcorn sundae. Tacos are delicious. The pork and shrimp taste very good. Sirloin and chicken need some spices. Could it be beef tacos with coriander Mexican mayonnaise? All in all, this is a delicious place!

Nice atmosphere and it seem like it was going to get very busy since when we came in she said she only had one table open until 7:30 but we had enough time where we didn’t have to rush since we arrived at 5:30. Staff was very friendly and helpful with there food recommendations. The tacos were awesome. Since my wife and I are pescatarians we pick the two fish taco options which were amazing! Also the shrimp ceviche was very delicious as well. We started with guacamole & salsa w/ chips. For the drinks I got the fan favorite which was the blood orange margarita which was very delicious and my wife ordered the grapefruit margarita. I definitely recommend this place if you are near the area and are looking for a great Mexican food

Mexicano’s is now a chch staple and worth dining at if you’re visiting our city...the fried chicken is always a must! Fast and friendly service with great options for vegetarian diners. We keep coming back here! Top tip... if you can’t get a table here (next tip make sure your book!) head next door to The Dirty Land and experience the same delish food and great service.

I can say that this is a very nice more traditional Mexican food restaurant and bar. The meals had some real tasty flavours and there was a good range of beers and wines. Car parking is on the street and the main entrance is on the left side of the building as looking at it from the footpath. Priced not cheap and not expensive this is a nice place for a chat and something nice to eat.

Been there a few times. Great Mexican restaurant with delicious food. Chief’s special Ceviche with coconut is certainly one of the best ceviche I ever tried. Place is busy in evenings so booking is required for dinners. Walk-is is fine for lunches. Very cosy and atmospheric place. Staff is promptly and friendly. Prices not cheap especially for cocktails, but still very reasonable for quality food. Food is spot on! Very fresh and tasty.

Delicious shareable portions. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this is not the place. My experience was not the best, but the potato skins were tasty and the ribeye skewers were fantastic and highly recommended.

The food was great. When our order was muddled up it was dealt with swiftly and superbly. A bit more lighting would be great though. My food had a great rich red colour to it, but I could only see it when I turned my cellphone light to it and the menus were hard to read. I do love a yummy frozen margarita :)

This place is definitely worth a visit. Amazing food, atmosphere and service. We tried every taco on the menu (see picture) and they were all great. The staff were really accommodating with special dietary requirements as well. We were lucky and got a table without a reservation, but it's worth booking as this place is very popular and gets busy.

Really good place for groups or not. Not big but good enough to enjoy the dinner. On Thursday without a reservation we waited around 40 minutes for a table but in the meantime we've been served cocktails and the entree from the barista. Really nice place, staff really nice and friendly. Food quite good, maybe the tapas are too small but tasty enough. The pictures are for fried chicken with quesadilla; fries with cheese; bloody mary and bloody maria (yes, are different!). Recommended.

The ambiance and environment are a lot of fun, and very well done. The bar area and drink selection looked fantastic. The staff were friendly enough. I would warn this isn't really great for families with small kids, with a few exceptions for large groups the entire place has high tables and no-backing stools. Despite our request, nothing was available and inevitably our 5yr old tumbled off. After 7pm, more of an adult crowd. The portion of food to cost ratio is average. We ordered very expensive chips and salsa/guac (which in many north America places is just free anyways) and it was a very small portion. The meals are basic, you get exactly what you order no frills and no more than that. While good, very basic and not overly worth the cost. But in the end you are paying more for the ambiance.

We ordered guacamole and corn chips, chicken quesadillas, and fire grilled ribeye alambres. I honestly can't decide what tasted the best, everything was so good! I was immediately pleasantly surprised when I entered the restaurant by a very welcome and friendly waitress. The next surprise was the free water she poured for us when we sat down. The meals arrived very fast after ordering them. The place is also beautifully decorated.

Food was good, service was ok. First time to Christchurch and ate at Mexicanos because of the great reviews. Loved the food but don't know if it was a busy night and/or understaffed that the manager seemed abit off/streesed. We were seated close to the bar and noticed several beverages just sitting at the window. Both the manager and an employee walk passed the unattended drinks that had been sitting there for at least 15 minutes. I had overheard the customers next to us get slightly irrated that their drinks had been sitting at the window. For future reference, I suggest allowing the bar staff to wait drinks if they recognise they have been sitting for prolonged periods of time. However our food was the best mexican I've had in a long time and outweighed the customer service. I would suggest going at a time that is not busy.

Fantastic little restaurant. Best to book as it's SO busy. The cocktails and the food are so delicious. Fast service, the staff are really friendly, lovely, welcoming and greeted by big smile. The atmosphere is incredible. Highly recommend going here. Please keep in mind, they have a 1.5hr setting limit.

I stopped in at this restaurant as a lover of Mexican cuisine. What impressed me most was the absolutely stand out hospitality and respectful service I received. I was greeted my numerous staff all of which were helpful and inviting providing me with service I seldom come across these days. Friendly, inviting, tasty food, fantastic authentic drinks and beautifully kind staff. A big five out of five for me! Totally recommend if you want friendly service good food and good vibes for a night out!

We had lunch and some drinks. The deco is just purely Mexican based on El día de los Muertos. Very original lamps design with an industrial touch. The food is really tasty and staff is very friendly and provide a very good customer service. Wow I love Mexicanos. Well priced, delicious food and a great atmosphere. Staff are super friendly and food is fast and such good value for money. I've been so many times and usually order chips and dip, sometimes one, but usually two of the adobo chicken tacos and their cocktails are delicious!

I will start off by saying that the food was good, not great. I had the nachos and specifically asked if it was big enough as a main. The waitress assured me that it was...it wasn't. The nachos arrived in a bowl that was about 15cm across at the widest. Definitely not a meal size. The tacos had a meager amount of filling. The menu looks impressive at first glance but only one column is food, the rest are drinks. Finally, the space is packed and they clearly trying to churn people through. They have a 1.5hr seating limit.

This is by far my favourite Mexican joint in town. I always recommend this place to my friends. I have been to this place on 3 iccassions and each time was so good. No complaints. The food just gets better and better as I try more on the menu. My favourite are the lamb tacos , and the grilled chicken skewers. Drinks are really good too. My daughter who is 1year old loves eating here with me. Kid friendly.

Amazing food!! Ordered a bunch of starters, because why not, and I was delighted at the selection. It's very hard to find corn fritters at any place at all, so I was happy to see you have these. I ordered it via Uber Eats, and it was so good. Vegetarian and vegan friendly, tasted fresh and yum. Whole bunch of flavour explosion in my mouth I am very impressed. I will definitely be ordering again.

I’d say it’s the best Mexican menu in Christchurch. I admit that’s a very low bar to clear and I don’t think this restaurant would stand out in Mexico (not even close) or most of the border states in the USA. However, if you have a hankering for Mexican and you’re not leaving New Zealand any time soon, it’s pretty good. Tip: I was at a table of 10 and judging by the variety of meals my mates and I ate, the nachos or the quesadillas are probably the most filling meals if you’re trying to save money.

Food was pretty good. I'm not a fan of these double sitting arrangements. I feel rushed and that is not what I want from a meal. I would have liked more time to sit and enjoy the family time I was having. As explained as I paid, I would have liked to have known what I ordered was just 'meat on a plate', I would have tried something different.

We visited on Good Friday when we were told that you can't order alcohol without ordering 2 main meals so not one to pass up an opportunity for both we ordered one of each of the tacos. Food arrived quickly and the staff were very attentive. They also have great hot sauces and excellent selection of Mexican beers. Pulled pork and mushroom tacos were the best. I imagine this place is busy on weekend and not that big so go early to avoid disappointment.

Delicious food! We came here on our first day in NZ, and wandered in not knowing what to expect. But the food was absolutely delicious and well worth the price. I will admit, it was pretty expensive for the serving size you get, but it didn't stop us from coming back here 16 days later before heading back to the airport.

I personally liked my meal - but other work colleagues were not as happy with their lunch meal. This is my favourite restaurant in the city. It never fails to impress. Busy, loud and energetic, the small plates and tacos are perfect every time. I recommend getting 3 or 4 smaller items rather than the main fare. The $10 margaritas are worth it too.

I had a good first experience eating here. The decor is to die for! The wall art is so beautiful and the way the whole place is set out.. Literally felt like I was in Mexico! But I did feel let down by the food I ordered. I had a taco (Sorry, Totally forgot the name) but it was cold.. I think it may be because it was mostly just beans and hardly any meat but overall the warm presence from the staff and the vibe in Mexicanos is what won me over the most. The tacos were super good - i wish i had just got a bunch of these, the rest of the food i ordered was bland or average. Staff were also pretty average, constantly forgetting drinks we ordered for our table (but the restaurant was jammed). Since Mexicano's opened I have been a loyal customer and I tell everybody I know or talk to to check this place out. Delicious food, good service and a refreshing atmosphere. The pulled pork taco, fish taco and fried chicken are my absolute favorites. My concern with restaurants I fall in love with is that they might start strong then slowly get too comfy and slide - but that hasn't been an issue here. I know what I love and it has stayed consistent and delicious since day one. Absolute love for this place. Easily one of my top 5 restaurants in Christchurch.

Excellent place for a lunch, quite popular the plates and quantity of food varied a lot in size with the mains so it is worth asking the staff about the serving size. I ended up with two mains one small one large and full but a small main a starter. It is quite cozy and ok for one on one dates if a little cramped for bigger groups you really should reserve tables. Serving size is probibly the reason I would choose another Mexican restuarant if I was in a large group, a date the atmosphere here is great and you can always order more if hungry. Was a midday lunch

My favourite restaurant in town! This is a great place to go for a midweek catch-up or a weekend dinner before pushing on to town. Excellent service from the staff and a creative bar team top this place off as one of the best in town! Make sure you get the fried chicken!

Came in with family, five adults and three kids. Food was good but there was a constant issue with servicepersons lacking the training to know what questions to ask us and when to check in with us to get smooth service. We ordered a mix of starters and mains but the serviceperson didn't pick up that we wanted everything to come out together, and didn't ask to clarify. As a result, three people finished eating before the rest of the meals came out. Additionally we constantly had empty glasses on the table and had to hail them to get fresh drinks. Also had to hail them to order desserts. It states on their website that we can only reserve a table for a 1.5hr duration - which would be fine if they actually trained their staff on how to smoothly run a section and turn their tables over in a timely way. It's kind of a let-down that so many restaurants in Christchurch don't bother training their floor staff properly. It's not rocket surgery, people.

Mexicanos works alongside The Dirty Land, a great cocktail bar. Food came out quick and was delicious! I've never had a pineapple green mole sauce and admire their subtle creativeness.

Love this restaurant. Every time I am in Christchurch I go here for a delish feed and margaritas and catch ups with my girls. Haven't had a bad experience yet. Food is amazing, guac and salsa AMAZING, atmosphere is amazing, staff and service are amazing and the margaritas and cocktails are amazing. A place you must try if looking for a nice evening out with either colleges, friends family or on a date night.

If you don't have a reservation don't bother. We came in at around 6.30 and were told we could stay until 8.30 which would've been fine if they didn't take forever to take our order. We waited about a half an hour before we were even acknowledged and were able to get an appetizer and a drink before time ran out.

There are a few Mexican restaurants to choose from in Christchurch and Mexicanos takes the cake. The menu has variety with a mix of traditional/fusion dishes, and the serving sized are about right. The quality of the ingredients is excellent and this is where others compromise and lose stars! I haven't explored much of the drinks menu but they serve Garage Project beer, so full marks from me. The setting and service is very good, which is hard to find in Christchurch. Probably more suited to dinner than lunch as the lighting is dim even during the day. Reasonably priced for the quality of food and service. Expect to order a couple of tacos each and a shared dish between two for dinner. Usually busy most evenings so best to book a table if you have a group. Worth going just for the fried chicken and prawn tacos!

A very good restaurant and food prices are relatively cheap to other restaurants. I went for lunch and it was full and had to wait for 15 minutes for getting a table. Well the crowd is self explanatory to the quality of food there. The tacos are awesome especially the seafood ones.

The salsa was fresh, like it had just been made, and the chips were just the right texture to complement the salsa. My friend and I ordered some tacos. I had a grilled shrimp as well as a a portobello mushroom one. Both were perfect, and packed full of flavor. To top off the meal, we had a Sticky Pudding Cake that was served with a scoop of ice cream.

I loved this place! We went on a busy night but we had to wait only 10 minutes at the bar for a table. The cocktails were great! The whole place is 'dia del los muertos' themed with beautiful drawings and paintings decorating the walls. And the food! That was seriously good. The chicken skewers with the peanut mole sauce is HEAVEN! We also had the steak which was grilled to perfection, the mushrooms with coriander and a fresh salad. The only down side: it was too dark to take photos of all that goodness! 😄

The service is pleasant, maybe even a touch ingratiating - I've never had a bad experience here and it would be a great place for a lively small group get together.

We arrived to Christchurch from Picton a little later than normal, we were starving for dinner around 9:30. We hungrily walked past a couple of closed restaurants and found a Thai place that had their sign out to welcome us, we walked in and asked them for a table, but they said they were closed. We next walked past a bustling place with a good vibe - Mexicanos. We were so happy to find a venue open, plus Ana Maria greeted us even though she was busy waiting another table...This is a small gesture of customer service, when you have been traveling and you have been to places that ignore you as you enter, you really feel at ease when a person says hello and lets you know what the gist is. She explained there was a 10 minute wait, to grab a drink at the bar in the mean time, and that she could certainly fit us in. To top it off, the food was delicious. As a traveler I highly recommend this place for customer service, drinks, availability, food and good vibes. Thank you for making our hungry glum first experience of Christchurch great.
