Great menu. Food was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. We’re not a fan of stool seating. Most of the tables were high with stools to sit on. There were a few tables with chairs and two booths. We’ll try to get one of the booths next time. They had a DJ on the balcony which added to an already loud environment.

It was my second time at Midnight Shanghai and I can say for sure now it is currently my favourite Christchurch restaurant. The food is amazing, the price is fair, the staff is lovely, and knows how to provide good service without being too much. It is also located inside the beautiful Riverside Market, which is another big plus. The atmosphere inside the restaurant itself is also great. I love the outside area, just perfect for a drink and getting a bunch of sharing plates. Looking forward to my next visit!

Exquisite location and ambiance, very friendly service staffs, the food is good. We would have enjoyed our meal a bit better if our “trust the chef” courses were more dim sum oriented, at the end of the day, the two of us spent around $140 not adding the drinks, not sure if it lived up to this price.

Midnight Shanghai is our favourite place for special occasions, but it is perfect for any occasion! Excellent food, staff and atmosphere. Whether you want to have an afternoon high tea, a romantic dinner with your significant other, catch up with friends or spend time with family, Midnight Shanghai is the perfect place. The portion size and range of yum cha dishes is great for sharing with others or just trying a few new things yourself. I also highly recommend doing the trust the chef menu, we did one for the Chinese New Year, and it was one of the best meals of my life. Keep up the fantastic work team! ☺️💖

Had a really great dinner last night.
I love the margaritas here, so good! I also had the cocktail special *clover heart* which was good but quite sweet, 1 was plenty.
To eat we had;
Scallion pancake- so crispy.
Chicken peanut wontons- the freshest crispiest wontons I’ve had for a long time and the peanut sauce was delicious. My top dish of the night.
Maple sriracha chicken bao- this again was one of the freshest bao I’ve had in ages, the chicken was so soft and tender but also crispy on the outside.
My partners dish of the night.
Crispy pork belly- soft and moist with crispy chunky crackle with a beautiful tomato dip.
Kong pao chicken and rice: yum!
Staff were super friendly and helpful too.
Can’t wait to come back.

Great food, great atmosphere and amazing service. Have been here like 10 times in the last month and haven’t been let down once. Could eat here everyday. Great vegan 🌱 options are well!! Highly recommend the cauliflower bao and eggplant fries 🙌🏼

The food is nothing special similar to others Chinese restaurant. Just a place different than others. 4pcs of pork belly $14. Overall not too bad, still have some space for improvement.

We "trusted the chef" to cater for our end-of-year work function. The modern Asian influenced food was mouth-watering. We had pork Xiao Long Bao with a hint of truffle. There is a touch of Italy in Salmon caprpaccio and a touch of NZ in deep-fried whitebaits with garlic mayo. The cauliflower tempura had deliciously crunchy pangrattato. The seared fish with soy based, slow-cooked onions was infused with so much umami flavour.
The atmosphere was an electric reflection of Modern China with decorations ranging from paper lamps to panda cocktail utensils. Shame we did not get to do Karaoke this time.
