What a great surprise was to discover this "hidden" gem. I had the best Italian pasta that I've tried in New Zealand so far, and the decoration and the service was great as well. I'm looking forward to trying their pizza next time I go there.

Great atmosphere, service was excellent as well as the food. Pork belly was on point, I don't usually like fennel but all the flavours on my plate married perfectly! Great place to visit if you're on the westside of Christchurch, lovely drive if you're not.

This is just a lovely place to go for Italian food. Both indoor and outdoor seating gives you plenty of options. Most of us had the pizza special which was really nice but others had the fish or chicken. All were good.

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The carbonara was one of the best I’ve ever had- super thick and creamy! The pork belly was lovely too and the food is reasonably priced for how nice it is. Definitely recommend!!

Perfect place to getaway from the city and the food and service are the best. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Thanks to Claire for suggesting the specials on the menu especially the wine. ( I think we have a new favourite 😃) We met her mom too, and she was lovely as well. Found this place by accident and what a happy accident it was. We just turned up for dinner and were warmly received. Drinks arrived promptly. When we ordered we were told our mains would be about 20 minutes but we had also ordered an entree which came out quickly and were just finishing that when the mains arrived. Perfect timing. The food was excellent. Well presented and full of flavour. Will definitely go again when next in town and would happily recommend to friends.

This is my favourite place in Christchurch. It's a little way out of town but the quiet serene country environment makes up for it. This cafe/restaurant is in an amazing old timber building and the interior is really well styled. There's a nice courtyard where there is ample seating and loads of natural sun. Their coffee and muffins are must haves and the food menu while a little pricey is absolutely amazing. The staff are very friendly and we always enjoy visiting this place.

I have eaten here a few times and still absolutely love it! The staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is relaxing and cosy. I love the feeling of being in an oldy worldy original building with a great history. It really adds to the experience. The outside dining area is equally as beautiful with little fairy lights and cute added touches. The food is out of this world with lots of flavour and quality ingredients. You can't beat fresh homemade pasta and pizza! I am so pleased that they sell their homemade pasta now!! This means I can treat my friends and family to it at home (and pretend I made it myself, haha)! I would definitely recommend a visit to The Bicycle Thief. You will be delighted!

Excellent restaurant, the food is great and there is a good selection of drinks. I enjoyed the gnocchi and the pizzas looked very good. The service was outstanding and the staff were very friendly. I'm certainly comming back and I can't believe I hadn't heard of this place before.

Between my sister and I, we do not eat dairy, meat or gluten. The staff could not have been more understanding and accommodating. We recently celebrated my husband's 60th birthday here and it was an amazing meal. We had the Italian fiesta and it was such a feast, the food excellent, plentiful and served quickly and efficiently by friendly staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and welcoming and although we could not sit outside due to the weather, the outdoor courtyard is lovely on a warm day. We have been here many times and will continue to do so. Thank you so much for making our celebration so wonderful.

This place have very quickly become my favorite place to eat out! I love everything about it. The food is amazing, I have been living in NZ for over 2 years and the best meal I have had is right here - Lamb chops and an incredible chocolate mousse. I'm quite a tricky customer as I have Coeliac and a few dietary intolerance's but they are amazing and don't make me feel uncomfortable about it. The food is cooked to perfection and all the flavours so well balanced, plus the portions are just the right size too. The ambiance of the whole place is really nice and warm and reminds us of old English county pubs. The staff are very friendly and everything is created with love and real passion. Hello, Everyone I could not recommend this place more. The place is stunning lovely and intimate, great for a group or a date night. Has a lovely romantic element that you don't get much these days. This is one of my favorite restaurants until we have the Angus/Hereford Steak tonight, overcooked the first time, when the second one coming we cannot be convinced it is from the loin cut. Not tender at all and really dry inside, the beef flavor is totally lost! We ordered medium rare however there is no juice in it. Given the restaurant is so busy in the evening, we cannot complain more. Other food was still great! Service was lovely as always. I'm sorry I have to write this review because we took our friends here with great confidence and expectation but left with regret plus I believe it is not the standard of the steak that should be served.

Have visited twice in the last week, once for a lazy Saturday lunch outside with friends, and then a cozy Sunday dinner inside. The wine list is well chosen, and the peach fizz mocktail was refreshing. The calamari fritto was perfectly cooked, tender and the batter was spiced lightly but very flavoursome. I'm a huge fan of their spring pea salad, it's so fresh and a perfect accompaniment to their pizzas.

Food is a bit over priced, especially the pizza as it didn't have a lot of sustenance to it (Campagnola) and the Carne lacked flavour/sauce. Steak was cooked well and jus salse erbe was good. Corn risotto was good, a touch too much lemon but otherwise good. Chicken was slightly bland. Lamb was good. Setting was good, very hot in the outside seating area and has little breeze to bring relief. Overall was good but not amazing.

The Bicycle Thief was everything and more I imagined. If the trip past the exquisite Kennedy's Bush and the treck towards Tai Tapu doesn't stir the soul then TBTs gourmet grub certainly will. Their outdoor seating is so tranquil and soothing and we were so blessed to have gone on such a superbly sun filled day. If you are a salad lover such as myself you will love their bountiful bunny bowls of bliss. Their dishes are opulently flavoured and gregariously garnished with goodness and love. This place can certainly be a culinary utopia for both the carnies and the Massports (herbies) amongst us. Although we elected for non alcoholic beverages, their wine and tiddly list also looked tantalisingly titillating. That said, our coffees were very tasty and terrific. I'd imagine this place goes off like a rocket during the evenings and in the weekends and I'm so glad we went during the peaceful afternoon period. What a hidden jewel that makes a Cantabs heart thump with pride to have. Definitely a place one has to put onto ones' foodie bucket list.
