O.Went there for lunch and ordered Paella. Overall good meal but not exceptional. Paella is the soupy type but I prefer the drier version. It has plenty of seafood and nicely cooked. It is located in a nice historical building and staff is attentive but not overbearing. Certainly one of the fine dining restaurant that worth visiting in Dunedin.
A.Bacchus definitely impressed! All meals were perfectly cooked and exceptionally presentable. Everyone on my table was more than happy. Wine and deserts were amazing also. Glad i found this place - looking forward to next time
L.Dinner was a special experience ... was just a Thursday night so a real treat. Attentive service but not intrusive. Lamb and salmon exceptional. Lemon curd cheese cake simply delicious. 💛💛

J.My mother and I enjoyed a delicious lunch today. My polenta dish was flavoursome and light, my mother's risotto was beautifully creamy. The baked lemon curd cheesecake to follow was delicious. The service was excellent and we can't wait to visit again. Thank you.
S.With just about everything in this university town shut for new year, Bacchus was the last fine dining place still open.
The mains covered the standard NZ options of beef, duck, lamb, fish etc and were done well, but without anything that made this a stand out meal, apart from the mash which was awesome.
Service was, as always in NZ, warm and welcoming and the price of food and wine was good value for the quality and service.
M.The food was excellent. A real highlight was the Turkish bread with the dukkah. The beef cheek and also the lamb were delicious.
D.Great treat to our first trip to NZ. DIdn’t book but the owner was very accommodating and found us a nice table. Food was OUTSTANDING! Pate to started (we shared) and the lamb melted away. Portions just right so you didn’t feel overwhelmed. Creme brûlée with rhubarb was first class. Surveyor Thompson 2013 was the perfect accompaniment.
Staff were attentive and had obvious pride in their service.

S.Loved the food here. The food was amazing with so much balanced flavour and a gourmet touch to it. The desserts were heavenly too. I loved the peace and quiet inside the restaurant. It was a wonderful experience.

While this restaurant is expensive, the price is worth it. The food is cooked perfectly and is very tasty. There was no great delay in getting our meal but it was clear that the meals were freshly prepared.
I had the lemon curd cheesecake and the lemon curd was perfect. It wasn't too sweet but was just sour enough to offset the sweetness of the rest of the cheesecake.
E.Best restaurant in town if you are looking for delicious food and wine. Lovely atmosphere overlooking the Octagon. Try the flower pot breads. Also the risotto is always👌👌

K.We had a lovely meal at Bacchus. We shared the beef cheeks, and I ordered the pork belly, and my partner a steak. All of the food was delicious. My pork belly was bordering on over-seasoned, although I like it that way, it might not please everyone. We had a delicious chocolate martini that we will certainly go back for. Dessert was delicious and reasonably sized. The service was attentive. The only thing that we found disappointing was the noisy atmosphere. We had a small table which was very close to a table of six loud gentlemen dining - within elbow distance. Also, our conversation had to compete with the coffee machine at the bar. My partner came and sat on the side of the table so we could hear each other. Beautiful food and service, but if you are wanting an intimate, quiet meal, somewhere else might be more suitable.
E.Friendly service with awesome food. Not a huge menu but variety and quality is amazing.
V.Boutique type restaurant upstairs from the Octagon. Don’t be put off by entry, it’s old n looks a bit run down but once up stairs you get the idea if it’s old world charm. Service was excellent. Bacchus has won a NZ beef & lamb award ever year for past 20 years so make sure you order beef or lamb. They do have chicken n fish on the menu as well.
M.The food was great. But we had to wait for a menu over one and a half hour. We asked a waitress and told them that we had to leave soon. But the response that we got was "Next time please let us know that you guys can't be here for long". I think one and a half hour is already way too long.
G.Awesome food and atmosphere. The oysters were tasty. It is on the pricey side, however, you don't have children in there which is nice for just adults trying to enjoy themselves and relax.will visit again.
C.Had my birthday at Bacchus last weekend, and what a night! Thank you so much, the food was on another level, i had the beef cheeks and the pork belly, both were exceptional, the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond to make the night special, having such a large group was not an issue, we all left happy.
This was my first visit, but i would definitely come back, and to anyone that wants their dining experience to be just a bit more special, i highly recommend Bacchus, thank you!
B.This place is beautiful. My partner took me here for a surprise lunch for my birthday, I thought we were going to go to KFC...
The food was amazing, I had some sort of very thick beef steak with mustard mash and it was delicious, the staff were very friendly, the place had a nice atmosphere to it. I don't like busy places but since it was like slightly after the lunch rush it was perfect timing, there was pretty much no one else there.
I loved it and would definitely go back.
Only downside for me personally is that it is right on the corner of the Octagon (which most people probably wouldn't care about but as I said, I don't very much like busy) :) But in saying that I did still feel comfortable being there, parking was actually fine too.

T.My family went out to Bacchus to celebrate my sisters graduation last night. She picked Bacchus which some of us have never been, including me. It wasn't very busy but we had such a great view of Chippewa. We had a one year old with us and I was very nervous about people next to us but they made sure we and the baby were comfortable. We had the pleasure of having Debbie.

M.Oustanding meal service and red wines last night. It was busy with so many in town for Fleetwood mac but they fitted us in and relocated to another table so we could stay longer because we just wanted to. Totally recommend and will definitely go back.

M.Awesome dining experience in this place. The service was topnotch. Attention to the customer needs is second to no one. I have never been to a restaurant that in tuned to their diners. The food we wanted was not in the menu as it was recently taken out. It was no problem at all for the chef to cook it for us. The food is delicious, potatoes are heavenly, wine list is superb and crème brulé was yummy. Worth every cent you pay.
P.Ordered a bottle of Pisa Range Pinot Noir - it is one of the best New Zealand red wine I’ve tasted.
