H.Local 88, I'm in love!
Chips were crispy with an authentic crunch (two scoops), the fish was fresh, moist and flaky with great bubbly batter and the hotdog had full thick girthy coverage.
Great salt coverage without surprise excess left behind. Well wrapped so still hot by the time I got home. (there's two large pieces of fish there, just lying on top of each other, only ordered one Hoki @ $3.50)
Staff are friendly and the dairy next door is handy if you're after a bottle of fizz and a good yarn.
$12.20 in total, excellent value in my opinion. Check them out!
M.Best loaded fries in town hands down. Jazz and her crew are some of the coolest people ever. They make amazing burgers. Their platters are awesome. The flavours, wow. If you like a bit of spice in your burger, believe you me, they got you. Highly recommend them. Great food, great conversation, great people.
E.Cannot be convinced that there is any better place for Fish and Chips in Dunedin than Local 88. We absolutely love this place, with great portion sizes, the best food and the best atmosphere in the South. Being from the UK, I’m quite fussy about my fish and chips, with a high standard that before we started coming here, never been reached. 88 doesn’t meet the standard - it sets the standard and it has been consistently amazing! Big thanks to the awesome team 😁😁😁
D.My husband bought that for me.. I love 88 burger. I hope to eat in the restaurant later. Onion rings are a little oily.. I guess it will be great with tartar sauce & lemon.
E.Great service, a wonderful menu that often had new additions and some of the best fish and chips I have had. Always tastes wonderful, cooked with clean oil and with love.

r.Great fish and chips. The blue cod was cooked perfectly! Cool decor with a bit of seating and lovely owners. Handy location to heaps of beautiful outdoor spots to sit down and eat too. Will be back!

N.Yummy burger (it was the Viking). I had some nicely cooked chips but didn't need them as the burger was plenty enough to eat.
Nice tidy shop as well and some good conversation with the staff/owners.

A.Scrumptious food! Highly recommend their battered blue cod - crispy batter with a nice, thick slice of fresh fish. To top it all off - they have really friendly service. Well done team.

S.5 star easy. It's good old fashioned kiwi fish and chips with a wee dose of class. The prices are at the upper end of what you'd expect at the local chippy but so is the food quality.
Their big burgers (Thor, Viking, and 88) are pricey but they're huge. You'll struggle to eat a whole one.

N.Best fish and chips in Dunedin! Good sized scoops, huge burgers, lovely staff and delicious menu - they even have a massive Vegan Royale burger if you're that way inclined!
T.This place is ridiculous! Very friendly staff and the food is INCREDIBLE! I ordered 3 pork tacos with rice and beans and a tamale. I was stuffed but just had to order one more tamale! 10 bucks for the entire bill and believe me these were not skimpy tacos or tamales!
V.When is the next Critic takeaways review? These guys win hands down - ie. are the best 'fish n chips' in Dunedin by a mile. Maybe the best in NZ. The only suggestions I have for them are: sesame buns, and considering kimchi burgers....

B.After returning to Dunedin from Wellington a few years back we had despaired of finding a good fish n chip shop here. We have tried up in the hill suburbs, We have checked out the North and several in South Dunedin. Some, the service was surly, others the product was rubbish and many, both the food and service were unacceptable . Lately we discovered the Local 88 in Ravensbourne. The chips are golden, crisp and tasty down to the last chip...if you can make it that far. ( generous portions). The big hit for me personally are the hamburgers. Totally amazing and crammed full of all the NZ basics such as beetroot and served up in a cardboard box. The friendly service is 'icing on the cake'.
