C.Some may look down on Lone Star and consider it a pretty basic chain bar-restaurant but those people are wrong because you can't argue with results. Wait staff were friendly, service was quick, the food was delicious with generous portion sizes. Dixie Chicken always a pleasure and the Midnight Nachos were also very good. Additionally, some of the best mashed potatoes I have had from any restaurant ever, and at about half the price from what you'd normally pay. Plus they do frozen margaritas which is fantastic. Overall, you could do a helluva lot worse than Lone Star Dunedin. Well worth it
R.We ordered take out here last week and unfortunately it wasn’t the best. The ribs were quite tough and had lots of gristle. I asked for the coleslaw to be removed from my meal but this didn’t happen. It’s a shame as we don’t order from restaurants very often. I will say though that their garlic bread is absolutely amazing. Possibly the best I’ve had. Highly recommend that if you’re ever there.
Perhaps next time it will be a better experience and I will update my review!
B.The ribs are great in fact 5/5 the only way it goes down a point if it's ever not the best I've ever had, service fantastic, the nachos is a solid 4/5 but I take nachos very seriously, so 4/5 is a really good result considering 5/5 is always for the best I've ever had, they also have this cool call button thing
S.We arrived later in the evening, mid week to a very warm welcome (only 2 other patrons) and offered menus, drink orders taken...warm, cozy, great sounds! Food arrived with massive apologies one item wasn't available...but all good...we had more than enough for 3 of us...deeeeelish! Then, just as we left, with another apology for not having our missing item, we asked if we could purchase a little bit of ice to take back to our motel across the road, and no problem at all, we were given a wee takeawaypack...no charge!...what a fab experience! Hats off to the young staff...Supreme service, food and ice! Tumeke!! We will be back!

R.Ribs are always a hit but ordered it for entree and came out with Mains. Salmon was amazing by itself but was disappointed as i was given seasonal veges instead of seasonal salad as stated in menu. Veges were sickingly oily as it overtook the natural taste of all the veges on my plate. Would like to try with salad and buffalo chips next time. But my actual fave dish is Johnny Cash Stash.
J.My husband took me here for my birthday we had lovely meals and they were generous portions. The staff were very helpful and attentive without being overbearing.

I also received a complimentary pavlova cake for celebrating my success today. I recommend Lone Star to anyone who want to enjoy good food or to celebrate a special day with friends.
B.Some of the kindest and friendly staff I have met. They also dealt with a difficult situation with a lot of professionalism. The food was very nice and so was the setting. Overall, an enjoyable experience.
S.We had our meal delivered and it was disappointing. The salad was made with brown ends on leaves like what I would discard. Fish was lovely but the garlic loaf with supposedly lashings of garlic butter hadn’t even been heated enough to melt the butter and there wasn’t much of that. I ordered coleslaw and that was delicious. I feel they could do better.

J.Very popular, easily a 30-45 minute wait in Friday/Saturday nights, but you can wait with a drink at the bar. Huge portions, hearty flavours, good value, and nice staff. Has WiFi but can be patchy depending on where you're sitting.
H.Lone Star is not the cheapest restaurant in Dunedin for sure. But when you want to celebrate something special, you don't look for a cheap place, but a place where you feel what you will spend on is worth every penny.
Lone Star is exactly that kind of place. When wifey and I celebrated our wedding anniversary, we received wonderful service. I must give a special praise to Zannah (or was her name Zaina?) for no particular reason other than being helpful, attentive, and full of smile when she was assigned to our table. The BB pork rib was delicious, the tiger prawn was delightful, and the Jack Daniel's chocolate fudge was a true icing on the cake of our wonderful evening. Will definitely recommend this place to any of you who plan to celebrate something special with friends or loved ones.

H.Ah, Lone Star. What can I say about this classic Kiwi restaurant that hasn't be already said? The aesthetic? Immaculate. The Menu? Wide-ranging and adaptable to ones personal needs. The food itself? Simply stunning. And of course - most importantly of all - you can shove mouthful after flame-cooked mouthful of ribs into your face, coating your hands and your head alike in rich, rich sauce like some manic bear that broke into a condiment factory - and not a single person shall judge you for doing so. And really, what more could ya ask for?
3.Absolutely gorgeous ... I thought Papakura Auckland cooked the best steak.... nope.. Dunedin cooks the best steak.. compliments to the chef...😉 .. If you want the best steak come to Lone Star Dunedin... the seafood is great too...👍
c.Had my 21st there. Great experience, good prices and good drink and food options. Their avalible venues are all nice rooms, at a good price. They were very helpful at organising the 21st, and made everything very clear. I would recommend the Lone Star to anyone looking for a great 21st, at an affordable price.

L.The restaurant was very busy. We had a 45min wait. So we booked, went elsewhere returning 40mins later, had a quick drink then were seated. The food was excellent. I had a vegetarian dish followed up by a decadent dessert. Service was top notch.

K.Love the food here, very cute atmosphere, and their cocktails and dessert are amazing. Definitely worth dining at. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of five is because both times my partner and I came here, the servers kinda just forgot about us towards the end of our meals? The first time we came here, we had great service at the beginning and middle. I ordered dessert and asked for a cocktail with it. The dessert came, cocktail never did, and after waiting for a bit we saw that our server was leaving for the night. We didn't think it was that big of a deal, as we weren't charged for the missing cocktail or anything (we figured the server just had a hard night and forgot, so we didn't make a fuss), so we just finished eating, paid and left. But a similar thing happened the second time we dined in. Again, great service at the start. We got our starters and cocktails, then ordered and ate our main meal. When we were done eating we stacked our plates while we waited for the waitress to come collect them and offer a dessert menu. She didn't come back to us, but was around taking care of other tables next to us, serving/clearing plates/offering dessert menus etc, so it's not like we were out of sight/out of mind. We sat and waited maybe 15-20 minutes after we had stacked our dinner plates together (to try and make it obvious we were done eating and make it easier for her to collect them). After that, we went up to the front register and were able to flag her down there to let her know we still needed service. At this point we were there so long, we decided to just get dessert to go instead of eating in. So overall, good experience and great food/drinks, but being forgotten about at the end of the night sullies the experience slightly. We'll still come back for the yummy food, I just hope the third time will be the charm =) [I also want to note that the second time we came, there was not a kallpod on the table]

M.Great food ,burgers were amazing ,super juicy and hot . Kids meals were also amazing and nice size for the kids. We had the wrap ,hero burger ,and Mexican toaster all kids Meal and chicken and beef burgers with chips and aioli both tasty. THANK YOU GUYS GREAT SERVICE TOO .

F.First off we get the usual Lone Star “we can have a table ready for you in ten minutes if you’d like to wait in the bar” racket. This con is rolled out every time I visit a lone star no matter how many empty table there are.
Tonight there were roughly five empty tables that remained empty during our meal.
It resulted in us buying a round of drinks at the bar. Well played lone star.
The food and service was of a pretty good service.
I asked for some sauce for my meal which came up on my bill for an extra $2.
Given the cost of the meal and the nature of it, one that most people would have sauce with, I thought this charge was over the top.
Overall a pleasant experience but I won’t rush back.

When I paid the bill the young lady taking my money was friendly and informative. Hadnt been here in ages, totally impressed with the standard of service. Food also excellent, great options. I Was in a group of 17 trying the mid winter Christmas deal, all meals were delivered together no one left out, we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience, thank you Lone Star Team!
N.Lovely food, but as we suspected there were two other functions happening upstairs (end of November). Our meals took forever to arrive. Also seems weird that you can't book if not in a large group. I am not one to drink a lot so sat with one lemon lime and bitters for over an hour before we were actually seated at a table in the restaurant. The waitress also forgot about my wine which I ended up going through to the bar to get. The server said because of the muck up it was free, yet we ended up paying for it on the bill. Had the service been better and food been faster I would have rated higher.
C.We went to Lone Star to show a friend from the UK what all the fuss was about. Our server Hui was fantastic and friendly and timed every run past perfectly. The food was excellent as per usual and our British pal was suitably impressed!

K.Service and food quality are both good and b it's great they are using free range chicken but their vegetarian mains a very limited (nachos or a bean burrito). Can't speak for the nachos but the burrito was just ok, not as flavoursome as their meat meals.
That being said they're meat meals are very good and great portion sizes.
On the plastic side be aware that their doggy bag containers are single use plastic and despite us asking for no straw in our cocktails this request send to be forgotten about.

J.Good effort. Pork ribs texture ok. Sauce was too sweet and rich which made it a bit sickening. On the bright side, service was excellent and lovely environment.
F.The first was out of business, the second offered a hot stone, so you can cook your own lamb (no thanks, I'm out to eat, please have the trained chef cook my food) and Lone Star. Knowing its Texas influence, I was worried that my vegetarian wife would be left eating salad. Nope, there were four vegetarian "mains" and none were devoid of nutrients (aka pasta and veggies). I chose Lone Star.
R.Had a wonderful meal with the family. Atmosphere is really nice and the waiter we had (Levi) was a joy to have. I had the Burrito Ranchero which is just out of this world. Perfect blend of chicken and jalapenos.
j.not one complaint . this place is a must go if you havent already been . I've always got the ribs but have recently tried the johnny cash stash which was delicious .

K.Central location, good honest food, generous portions, excellent staff. Nice ambience and has high ceilings, which makes it far less noisy than say, Lonestar Wellington, allowing conversations without having to shout. Only negative is that unlike their other mains the Redneck Ribs does not come with sides; coleslaw and fries costs extra, which can be a surprise on the bill - this seems at odds with what makes Lonestar.
G.The food and service was better than the last time I came here. Apparently there is new management so this may have changed things for the better. I attended a work function so I had an unpriced set menu but the price of drinks wasn't outrageous.

l.Went in the other day, ordered the ribs. Wasn't a bad wait time but could be better, the ribs were stacked up as high as possible and it was beautiful. First bite into the succulent juicy meaty ribs and I noticed that the sauce was a wee bit rich for this old guy haha lol but overall a very good experience and would recommend!

We luckily snagged up a parking space close by and proceeded to be quickly seated. Originally we had the expectation of a steakhouse, but I would say Gastropub suits the overall ambience much more. Great for families and groups.
We were fortunate enough to have Izzie serve us for the evening, she was a gem. Starting us off with a super light and refreshing non-alcoholic cocktail - a boy named sue, quenched our thirst beautifully.
Izzie was kind enough to go through her personal favourites from each section, each with two options for either a lighter or heavier meal. As our appetite was quite low, between the three of us, we opted for the Dixie Chicken, Maverick Fillet and Midnight Nachos.
Service was prompt and attentive, everything you could expect in a gastropub and more.
K.The service and meals were excellent. The meals were really large - actually they were way better than the meals served in Christchurch Lone Stars.
