A busy cafe. If u r driving towards Oamaru passing Glenavy, you will find it on ur right-hand side by the main road. It seemed to me a multiple businesses place around where you have plants, crafts and other gift types to shop. So, I took a while to find where it was. By the way, inside is really nice and pleasent. Was a good experience there. They have got a short menu. You can dine in or takeaway. But, I would suggest dining in as u want to enjoy dining in there. Seating outside is also available as an option. Reservation are welcome there.

Located next to the Riverstone Castle. Nicely decored interior, great vibe and chic. Beautiful wreath and Grande dried floral decorations. Ample parking. There's an amazing playground at the back, featuring a large wooden castle, duet swing, wooden flying fox, hand pulled Mary go around, some push wheels and a beautiful flower tunnel. Easily an hour worth of activity for kids of any age. Food is pretty standard, reasonably priced with a standard portion.

Lovely food, lovely location, friendly staff.
This was my 2nd visit
L.
Great to visit with pea babies in the aviary and magpie ducks. Glorious gardens. Bring back the sour dough starters please....
Y.
We had seared squid, gnocchi and desserts, they were beautiful. Very professional and friendly staff. It's not only the restaurant there, they have amazing vege gardens and interesting shops to have a look around. We spent 2 and half hours there! Booking recommended.
V.
Really wanted to like this place but our dining experience was only decent considering the price point and wait time. Managed to be seated instantly for lunchtime but the both of us waited an hour for our food as we watched others who ordered after us receive theirs. Food was good but honestly, not outstanding. I did, however, loved the gift shops and garden area. Don't think I'd come back personally for the food but I do still think people should check out the area for themselves.
J.
Had the Plum Louise Cake. Was devine. Have their own raised gardens for all their fresh produce for the Kitchen. Wonderful complex. Gift shops all in the same area also.
Recommend a stop here. A++++
K.
Awesome place, not quite the place that I would go for lunch as a 15 year old as there was quite fancy food for a decent amount of money. I opted for the scone and hot chocolate and it was a delicious option. The beautiful location with the castle and wonderful gift shop created a lovely atmosphere for people and groups of all ages.
J.
Very beautiful place.food was very tasty at the restaurant .
S.
Excellent service and very friendly staff..Amelia was great .. The food outstanding and highly recommended.. Be sure to book in advance.. Will return to have a tour through Dot's castle but tours stop 5 December ...
W.
Another fabulous visit to Riverstone. The coffee cart makes the best coffee ever and the outdoor dining menu is so good, and what amazing gardens to sit and enjoy your food in. You are just the best!
W.
Always a family favourite to stop off at on the way down south. Food and coffee are delicious (great kids meals!) and the playground and surrounding shops are great for exploring.
Y.
Lunch at Riverstone today was amazing. Beautiful fresh 🐟🐠 and ☀️and 🥂 and a stroll in the gardens 🌱🏵️ while checking out the castle 🏰. Fabulous service, food and entertainment. A wave out to Fit as we left the carpark and she was hauling in more goodies for the gifts shops. See you next time.

Had some enjoyable brunch here. Tasty poached eggs and sourdough. Good price. Made a reservation which I think was necessary. The website is poor... Had the trust the chef menu, and managed to get all the dishes I had thought about ordering. Well presented and balanced dishes. The service was attentive.
K.
Very nicely done interiors! Didn’t dine in so couldn’t comment on food. Nice place to spend some time around here especially there’re gift shops and a garden!
Castle: can only look from far unless you book the tour (specific schedule).
R.
We asked for the lamb gnocchi and for the fish.
The gnocchi was very good and the lamb had a rich and intense flavour. The fish was beautifully cooked and very well seasoned. Everything was cooked to perfection, including the vegetables.
Since everything was so good we decided to try one of their deserts and the lemon tart was also amazing.
The chef really go the extra mile creating and cooking the dishes with their own fresh ingredients. I just love that.
That said, the service was good and they know about their food but they do look a little bit short on staff, so you may feel that everything takes a little longer than it should. But overall that was fine.
Last but not least, try to book online before, as it looked very difficult for walk ins to manage to get a spot.
J.
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! eating by the castle alongside bees, great weather, and beautiful gardens. They have long tables for family gatherings, a playground set for kids to play, and flowers, lots of flowers! Food is made by the finest produce, tasted like it's still alive. Amazing experience, definitely a recommended place to stop by!
R.
Great place to stop or worth making a special trip for. Lovely staff and great food!

Riverstone Kitchen is a hidden Gem! Almost 20 Minutes north of Oamaru, on State Highway 1 just past the Oamaru Airport entrance. The restaurant has a beautiful “Country Kitchen” feel about it, The meals and their presentation are absolute exquisite.
For starter I had the half portion of Tomato Soup, which was absolutely delicious. My wife had the Fried Beetroot with Buffalo Curd. Neither of us had ever heard of “Buffalo Curd” before (which is apparently made from real Buffalo Milk and only available from a few suppliers in New Zealand. I asked for a small sample to try it out and the friendly waitress happily got us a sample to try. I was pleasantly surprised... it tastes a bit like sour cream, with a cream cheese texture. The name Curd doesn’t do it justice, and it tastes 100 times better than the name sounds.
For Mains we both had Venison which was as expected! Spectacular! Highly recommended. It’s served on a bed of lentils and fried onions and wilted spinach and other greenery. The word “Lentils” usually forces an involuntary movement to raise my nose in disapproval, but once again I was pleasantly surprised. The combination of perfectly cooked meat and garnish complimented each other beautifully, and I highly recommend you try it.
The generous portions of starters and mains made us feel like we could only share a desert. We decided to go for the Layered Chocolate Cake and Chocolate Sauce and Strawbery Sorbet. Once again, absolutely beautiful, and portioned enough for the wife, 4 year old and myself to share.
The Venue and gardens are beautifully manicured with a magnificent castle visible in the background. Apparently tours to the Castle are available, but need to be booked in advance. There is also a huge play section for the kids, with enough swings seesaws and a kiddies castle to keep them busy for hours. Their are few bird aviaries all around the garden with a few Apple Trees in the garden mix too.
All together it was well worth our drive up from Dunedin and a great venue and experience. I will definitely visit again. Thank you Riverstone kitchen team for a magic experience. Jason Fouche & Family!
M.
A special place to enjoy a fine food .very good service and location
J.
Great breakfast menu before 11am. Lunch menu from 11am. Not an all day breakfast item on lunch menu. Great scones and cakes all day too.
c.
I don’t think I have been anywhere in the world that I can say without a word a lie, the food and service are consistently the best. I have been visiting now for about 6 years. Always worth it. 😀
F.
Visited on way to and from Elton John concert. Really impressed by this place, especially their pork belly sandwich. Good coffee. Friendly staff at the till. Highly recommended. Will visit again next time I'm passing through
R.
What a stunning place. I truly wish I could give more than five of five stars for this.
Firstly, the food is AMAZING. I often find that places have large menus but only do a few meals really well. Riverstone has a slightly smaller menu but they make up for it because everything on there, they do extremely well. I ordered the salt and pepper squid (image 1), and it was flawless. I was especially impressed with the salad that came with it- I often don't eat side salads because they taste limp and dull but the Asian greens served with the squid were delicious. I also got a chai latte (image 2), also very good.
I should also mention that my whole family is coeliac and can't eat gluten, and Riverstone did a great job accommodating us, with great gluten free alternatives.
The service is incredible. They must have a very good training program because the waiters are very friendly but professional, but also have great knowledge of the meals and what goes on in the kitchen (this is important for my coeliac family).
As for the grounds, they are like something from a fairy tale. There is a huge playground (image 4), featuring a huge wooden castle - very cool! And there are beautiful gardens surrounding the building (image 5 shows just some of the garden), some scenic, some with food. Did I mention they grow their own vegetables and everything? This gives the dishes a really fresh flavour. There is even and aviary.
The kitchen is accompanied by a few adorable wee shops with eclectic styles. Very good for gift ideas as the contents of the stores are pretty unique!
Overall, a truly wonderful experience that I would recommend very very highly.

What a kingdom this place is...
My relatives really love this restaurant and we sometimes come here for special family occasions when all the family are in town. We found that the food is always tasty and usually has a great variety to choose from at a reasonable price and good portions. I enjoyed their soup, breads, salads and chips when I go. My relatives are more adventurous and try out the substantial mains such as lamb and fish dishes etc. We take home a tart or pudding as a takeaway sometimes and it was yummy.
I noticed the restaurant is very family friendly, not only is there expansive seating, there is a playroom for kids and a pretty playground outside in the beautifully maintained gardens. Near the restaurant there is a country and western style of gift shop and an aviary of pretty birds, sometimes you also spot their farm cats lounging on the garden furniture. Also visitors can view the facilities large hen house which also has peacocks, the vegetable garden and the recently built castle which even has a moat.
There are toilets for the visitors in the restaurant, along with many car parks including disabled parks and also a restaurant shop selling home made style relishes, jams, sauces, ice cream etc.
This place is a real kingdom to behold, its a place to definitely stop by, you will see so much weird and wonderful things while having your lunch!
W.
Easy parking & access.
Beautiful gardens, well maintained property.
Fantastic cafe/restaurant. Efficient & professional staff/service.
Excellant food & gift store.
Must visit while in the area. 👍✅
A.
Lovely place to dine, attentive staff. Both entrée and main had a very high vinegar content. Not enough fresh flavors, as drowned by the acidity
S.
What a great little find this was heading from Oamaru to Christchurch. Fantastic service from super-friendly staff, great coffee, the scones were amazing! Cool gift shop adjoining and the castle and gardens were beautiful. Need to book tours of the castle though...check it out before you go.
A.
5 star for presentation. Food is expensive though but once worth a try.
Had special of the night; fig with blue cheese n hazelnut entree. Highly recommended 25$.. the sirloin was very nice with just the correct medium.. 45$, that said I have had better steaks. Quite filling..
G.
Simply beautiful. I was here a few weeks ago and was closed as it's still on holiday season, but will probably try to dine in when I come back. The castle looked beautiful on the background.
j.
The quality of food and service is extremely high. An intelligent kitchen, supported by an attentive serving staff made our time very well spent. A bargain.
L.
Couldn't have had a more enjoyable experience, lamb beautifully cooked, very fairly priced, great to see where your food is grown outside, unbeatable
W.
Lovely cozy interiors , wonderful food , good selection in their deli too ..! Friendly staff 🤩
D.
I had the hot smoked salmon. It was divine!!! Highly recommend A+++
C.
Great shops, beautiful gardens.
D.
Great place, good coffee and brilliant cakes at very reasonable prices.
A.
Thought it was strange the staff all had rolls to play and we had 4 different staff coming to our table in the 40muns we were there
J.
This has got to be the best gardens I've ever been to! Amazing playground, beautiful gardens, peacocks and a life size castle being built! So good. Wish more people knew about this place
P.
Fantastic food with Asian influenced flavours. Largely local produce and sourced from their amazing vegetable and herb gardens. A good wine list and very extensive craft beer selection.
H.
We had potato gnocchi and chicken salad for a light lunch. Both delicious, especially chicken salad!! Although we didn't book ahead the place filled up around lunchtime so would recommend booking. Staff very helpful and efficient. Lovely setting, highly recommend.
A.
Stopped by for breakfast, the smoked fish hash topped with poached egg and rocket was a huge plateful packed with fish. Exceptional. The parmesan stick and lemon and ricotta cake we took to go also delicious. A place to linger and wander through the grounds/shopping outside afterwards, all with the magnificent castle in the background!
K.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Food was delicious. Children loved the park and their fish and chips.
D.
Well done guys
Yesterday we called by for some of you beautiful food and coffee and to enjoy a wee break in your garden.
Because you are not a part of the division of the jabbed and unjabbed we wanted to be a part of your family situation.
Times have been so hard for all of us, places like yours need to be supported by as many as possible. We love you all.
Please keep up the good work. This season will pass..
R.
Excellent food! Fantastic that all produce is grown on site. Best of the best for seasonal (locally sourced) meals using uniquely tasty culinary combinations!!!
N.
Delicious lunch panko coated sole and salad&chips with homemade tartare sauce 10,/10. We have been here b4 and found the meals very good.Very good gift shops and bought Xmas gifts. We will be back.
B.
Very busy restuarant. Food was delicious but the meals were not very big. The salad side was small. Menu was limited. Plenty of beers and wine on the menu though.
Lots to look at while visiting Riverstone Kitchen - shops, gardens, Dot's Castle, playground. We would definitely visit again.
S.
Gteat staff. Great venue, Great food.
What more fo you need?
D.
This is a must visit, but please book in advance or you'll be disappointed due to its popularity. Food is exquisite using the freshest ingredients grown in their own gardens. Serving C4 coffee:-)
M.
It is one of my favourite places to visit with friends or family. The gardens are beautiful to wander through. The shops are unique and the restaurant is out on it's own.
K.
What a place! We came across this gem quite by accident. Fantastic food and lots to see. Great kid's area too.
K.
Excellent place to go. Meals were delicious. Staffs are very friendly and supportive to make us comfortable in every way. Kids play room available :) 🙂
B.
Delicious as usual! Worth the drive. Service attentive but not annoyingly so. We had a bowl of mussels, a tomato chickpea soup with Moroccan flavors that was so thick and gorgeous and filling, Lemon ricotta cake with a sorbet so good to finish with. We shared this and we left feeling very satisfied but not overstuffed. Couple of nice glasses of wine and coffee. Great Saturday lunch thankyou!
A.
Wonderful place. Bought lots of course n the gardens are magnificent.
C.
Beautiful place. Amazing food

Absolutely beautiful food, very generous portions and delightful staff.
M.
The best food I had in New Zealand so far. No wonder the place was voted "the best restaurant" in New Zealand.
All meals made from fresh ingredients, locally grown. Reservations recommended for breakfast, lunch or dinner
M.
One of the best restaurants in New Zealand really, friendly staff and they will try their best to impress you.
E.
Been there for dinner earlier this year, in April.
interesting garden outside the restaurant in the property,
white good-looking castle in far distance view
delicious food,
nice environment,
great service.
a bit pricy.
r.
Good place to go for all your indoor and outdoor gifts but could do with more staff.
P.
Amazing place. Could spend days just browsing the different barns, sheds etc, , walking around the gardens, dining area splendid, clean, well set out, warm, cheerful staff. Very stress free & loved that huge castle in the background.
W.

M.
Very nice food and friendly service. Gift shops were full of a wide selection of really great stuff, such as, a fantastic section of artificial flowers which we liked. Well worth going to for a browse, an item hardly found, a gift, or simply a cup of coffee and tasty lunch.
L.
Great service and a lovely meal. Terrific gardens to enjoy aswell
J.
A unique and welcoming place, with fantastic food right from their garden to table.
P.
This is the second time we have been to Riverstone Kitchen for lunch and both times have found the food excellent, the wait staff helpful and courteous and we did not have to wait long for our meal. We did not do the Castle tour but another diner we spoke to did and she said that she found the experience mind blowing. There are also gift shops etc on the grounds. Well worth a visit.
M.
Top service, best coffee, scrumptious date scone served with whipped butter, apricot jam and fresh whipped cream, absolutely 5 star.
R.
A lovely place to take a break. Had a light lunch. Savoury scone and coffee.
B.
Absolutely fabulous. Awesome food.
G.
We have been regular guests at Riverstone Kitchen. Today meals were delicious as always apart from the pasta which was disappointing - it lacked substance and taste.
T.
A must stop if you like superb food in a great setting. The tempura zucchini flowers are sensational and the selection of other dishes and specials is equally impressive. Take time to also browse through the shops beside the restaurant and take tour of the castle.
J.
The food was delicious and very friendly staff
L.
I thoroughly enjoyed the service here with my pile of washing cleaned every day after work helps a lot when your on the road. Highly recommend for a business or solo trip or even a small family ! Made my Takaka experience that much more enjoyable.
M.
The food is delicious. Thinking about it makes me tingle all over like crazy!
G.
Bevan and his team went above and beyond to cater for our destination wedding in Lake Tekapo! Kate was incredibly helpful, from our first enquiry we knew their team had it all covered! From all the planning, logistics and organisation, along with our specially designed menu to suit our taste of food! Our guests were blown away with the incredible food served on the day, it was abundant and beautiful! We were so thankful they were available to be apart of our day, as our food was one to be remembered by all our guests! Thank you 1000x over x
J.
Easy access and plenty of parking. Beautifully designed and lush garden's. Gorgeous little emporiums of colourful home accessories. Bird and Guinea pig inclosure, fantastic play area for little ones and a cool Fort for bigger kids. There is tours of the Riverstone 🏰 by appointment only, the whole site is so amazing and delightful. Lovely dining, superb atmosphere.

L.
Such a gem 💎
Efficient. Professional. Top notch!
C.
What a gorgeous day to be out at Riverstone. The gardens were amazing as was the meal. Lots of people there and although we didn't have a booking we only had to wait 15 minutes to get a table. That time was spent wandering around the gardens
C.
A nice place to visit. Good coffee and nice food. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Also nice gardens and shops. From the embankment at the rear of the car park you are able to look across the moat to Riverstone Castle. Very impressive.
H.
Excellent food, lovely staff, not discriminating.
Great work guys
P.
After navigating through torrential rain and lightning such as we haven't seen in a long while, the welcome warm ambience once we stepped inside and the overall dining experience made the journey worth it. I thoroughly enjoyed both my seared venison, and the odd bitefuls of my dining companion's ribeye steak. The steamed date pudding completed what was a very nice evening.
G.
Great place 4 stars as you need to book in if eating looking rounds free.
S.
In a word, Stunning! Amazing food, lovely venue and good service. If the food doesn't make you feel so good then nothing probably will 😀
P.
My wife and I stopped in for lunch on our way from Dunedin to Christchurch. What an awesome spot to stop. The retail shops are quirky and interesting with plenty of different giftware and the grounds are lovely with views to the castle in the background. But the cafe restaurant is why we stopped and it didn't disappoint. I stuffed up the timing and we were late but that was no problem. We were welcomed with smiles and friendly service. The meal was exceptional. Will have to stop in again as we pass by in the future and try more from the menu ... And perhaps one of the gorgeous cakes that we resisted this time!
C.
Awesome place with amazing service. Super yummy food with so many of the ingredients grown locally on site. Great playground for the kids.
M.
Such a umami eat very chill very cool was great
D.
Superb meal. Fabulous surroundings.
Perfection.
J.
I was disappointed today that there was only two options for me that were garlic free. I have an allergy and let them know when I booked. It was suggested that I should order the lamb, but today got told it was marinated with garlic. How disappointing! Howver, I ordered the venison and my husband and I have to say that it was amazingly wonderful! A bit expensive, but it was so nice and cooked to perfection. Our granddaughter had the fish and chips, which although a bit salty on the chips they were beautiful. The piece deristance though had to be the apple and blackcurrant shortcake! Amazing!!! Granddad had the chocolate cake with black currant icecream. That icecream was unbelievable! So good and full of flavour. Well done Riverstone, you redeemed yourself with the food we had and made up for the disappointment of the lamb. Awesome meal! 😎😎😎
B.
Great spot! Excellent food & very friendly service. Recommended!
t.
Amazing, inspiring place. So much to see ,
Saw the castle from the perimeter of the fence 👌 WOW
a.
We have dined twice in recent days. The food and service were excellent on both occasions. Loved the gardens and the play areas for children. A great place to relax in.
J.
Always outstanding food, service and atmosphere

R.
I have eaten here and the food was delicious. The staff are as cheerful as shown on their posts. Highly recommended.
j.
Absolutely wonderful service.....
The lunch menu was great. I had the salmon......delicious.
D.
A very flash restaurant in one of the most unlikely areas with a view of the castle Food was awesome . Great tastes, beautifully prepared and presented . Only downside was it was a bit pricey for lunchtime.
J.
Nice place, pleasant dining area nice menu too. Lots going on at the rest of the site, something for everyone
M.
I had the lamb. Although it was nice it didn't have much flavour. The beetroot tasted rather bland and the silverbeet was tough to cut. There was something just missing.... 🤔 The roasted potatoes were lovely.
B.
Food is so fresh, the gardens are beautiful. Worth the trip!!
I.
Breakfast menu was very limited. Scrambled eggs were cold. Disappointing after all the hype.
W.
Amazing food, and a great experience
C.
A really great place. Lunch was absolutely divine. The fish was cooked to perfection, the chips were handcut, crisp and delicious and the salad was very fresh. An awesome place to visit for a meal or just a coffee. A wee walk around the little shops is recommended.
P.
What can I say what a diamond . Food and service excellent. The sizes of your portions is out of this world. I had difficulty finishing my breakfast and the smokey bacon to die for. Well worth the 2.5 hr trip
E.
We had the best meal on Saturday evening. They were really busy, but the staff did an awesome job and the service was perfect. All our dishes were amazing and the waitress was super helpful with my Gluten Free questions. We are regulars now, and can't wait till our next visit.
j.
We had a lovely lunch there. Waiting staff were very professional. Meal was delicious too. Recommend going there.
R.
Had the sole fish in panko crumbs and chips. This was accompanied by a fresh green salad. Another busy day and we hadnt booked!! Appreciated being able to be seated quickly. Beautifully cooked sole pieces and plenty of them! Side salad was so fresh.
f.
I must say that Riverstone Kitchen is a rare place, quality food, locally sourced ~ some fresh from the on site garden. I chose a date and apricot scone which was full of fresh ' real ' apricot, loads of dates which was accompanied by fresh homemade apricot jam and cream. Wow! What a treat ~ simply divine. The staff members were impressive in their skills, I mentioned that I was lactose intolerant to the young lady that seated us, she passed this over to the waitress who came to the table ~ already having this knowledge on board 😀 then when my scone came out the amazing Kitchen staff members had put the cream separately away from the scone (incase this caused any problems). This café is ' one of a kind ' 💗 rate them higher than able 😊
J.
Wow!
We loved this place, food really was delicious, presented beautifully and pretty unique.
Our favourites were the swordfish and he lamb fish.
Really professional service, they knew their stuff and hosted us very well.
We would visit again
N.
The BEST mealI have had in a long time. Having eaten at many "top" restaurants in NZ this is equal to any. I had Sole, fish and chips, cooked perfectly and chocolate truffle cake and black currant ice cream, omg, delicious
V.
Amazing amazing food! Service was awesome. Watching the efficiency of the place was pleasantly entertaining also.
Has a casualness from a patron's perspective, but it is all business from the service end.
Loved it. Wish we lived closer to be frequent visitor's.
C.
Lovely meal. Beautiful weather . Stunning castle setting. Excellent service.
Very gracious owner and Chef son.
B.
Three hours ago. The place was super busy..
Excellent service and all four meals were to everyone's satisfaction
From the Hot salmon dish, ribeye steak, roast lamb and fish and chips.
Lovely location, beautiful gardens and very friendly atmosphere.
Top tip: book early and book on the balcony, wonderful view of castle and gardens and very relaxed.
Will definitely be back.😊👍
A.
Great coffee and scones. I had savoury - my wife had sweet. Service was very good thank you
B.
Great spot. Went for breakfast, the food was amazing the service fantastic. Even making a fresh batch of scrambled eggs for my super fussy son who wouldn't eat the ones with dill in them.
Highly recommend!
S.
Incredible place to visit. The gift shops are packed with all sorts of beautiful goodies ...all colour coordinated and looking perfect! Food is tasty and beautifully presented. But the best part are the vegetables gardens that supply the restaurant with a castle in the background complete with a mote!!! Great place for families and husbands who don't know what to buy for their wives on their birthday ;) Riverstone Kitchen is definitely a place you want to visit and experience for yourself!!!!
A.
Very delicious, little pricey but still super yum!! Will be back :)
I.
We are a vegetarian family with two kids (2&5yrs). There is a dedicated kids play room, they catered some vegetarian specials for us (also good for vegans) and put simply. It was amazing! The service, the food, everything. Can't recommend highly enough. We somehow managed to have what felt like a date night, even with the kids. Thanks so much to the staff and chefs.
C.
Absolutely 1st class, vegetables all grown onsite so are amazing. Our lunch was delicious, for want of a better word & the staff were excellent.
10/10 for us.
L.
Delicious food, great service and amazing grounds
J.
Excellent service and food to die for. Can see why these guys have published their own cook book - they really know what they're doing. Prices were standard for restaurant fare, but the quality was exceptional.
Next time we'll try to come during the day so we can check out the castle and grounds!
G.
Fantastic food, great staff, great service. Would highly recommend.
N.
Nice place to stretch your legs and have a bite to eat
B.
Back for third time in two days. Bought the cook book
S.
This place is a destination in it own right! The food has always been exceptional. There is plenty to keep kids occupied with a kids room, massive playground etc. Make sure you book.. Even for lunch. The surrounding gardens are impressive. As are the shops selling alsorts. And who doesn't love to look at a real life castle!!!
M.
Great food, great location, great service
k.
Beautiful food. Staff were amazing. The very garden is a treat.plus there's the gift store. Look across to Dots Castle. Magnificent.

I'd say average. We went there at lunch time and thought the options werent very enticing... probably we had a big expectation of your restaurant. Also ordered chips with aioli ..that sauce was quite bland so added salt that taste makes better. Salmon with salad from the main had way too much salad.. that'll be healthy meal but could have one more different type of thing.
Not just "Salmon and salad" ($36)
Cant really say it is Main. If people are not also ordering appetizers, will be not satisfied with main.
Love salmon but unfortunately i'm not a big fan of salad so if they have more main dishes (Salmon with other thing not salad or add one more appart from salad). I hope you guys'll consider to make other dishes. Busy restaurant but staff were working very efficiently and good. Clean restaurant. Just didn't match the price and quality of dish. Enjoyed the atmosphere though.

I've been visiting Riverstone Kitchen every time I am in Oamaru since they opened. 2006,I think. They were brilliant on opening and they've only got better, which I didn't think was possible. Plenty of parking, warm and cosy, good service, excellent food, which you can see growing by wandering in the gardens. I always buy some of their jam to take away because its delicious and keeps the fond memories of Riverstone Kitchen alive. Absolutely unmissable
J.
Best chips in the south island
T.
Wonderful place to visit, to wander the gardens and shops, and then a real treat to dine at the Restaurant. Great staff and excellent food.
K.
Food was great. Service was very friendly and restaurant warm and cozy. Best apple juice ever.
K.
Very good food and service.
A.
Amazing shops, everything possible in gifts, could spend hours looking. Beautiful Cafe and grow all their own fresh veggies
D.
I had the lamb and it was superb and then had the Bread pudding for dessert and it was superb as well. Great service and friendly staff. You would be best to book first though
M.
Beautiful food and an even more beautiful setting. The restaurant is surrounded by a garden of herbs and flowers, a really cool playground for kids, some cute little shops and there were even some peacocks around. Absolutely worth the stop if you're in the area, Riverstone was recommended to us by our Airbnb host, and we were so grateful as it ended up being one of our favourite places we stopped at during our trip.
D.
Unique spot, great gardens and produce. Food is always presented well and tastes very good. I always visit when I'm in the area.
S.
Cheese soufflé is amazing. The shops and gardens are fabulous. We had a round of ice creams and to be honest the flavours apart from the hazelnut one were all too strong, but still five stars as meals, surroundings and service were awesome.
K.
Lovely carrot cake in resturant. Gift shops have amazing and unique items. Garden and children play areas lead to Dot's home which is a castle. Easily can loose 3 hours here.
R.
Awesome staff. Found table for us on a busy day when we stopped without a booking. Everything was great, food, wine, staff and menu options.
D.
Food delicious, the gardens amazing. Service in the restaurant fantastic.
S.
We applaud your decision and back you 100%
Blessings from Akaroa CHRISTCHURCH x
M.
Fantastic place to visit. If you get the chance book a tour of the castle as it is amazing. The restaurant is a must and lots of time to be wasted wandering around the gift stores
M.
Excellent food in a garden setting! The roasted tomatoes on sourdough were exceptional, and grown on the premises! A limIted menu but everyone found something satisfactory and well- presented.
L.
Beautiful premises!! Below average service. Very nice mains, couldn't eat dessert. Chicken salad with parmesan was delicious, and salmon was amazing too. Dessert was sickly sweet with very little flavour, sadly (caramel nut tart, homemade ice cream of an unidentifiable flavour, and carrot cake with gritty cream cheese icing).
Service really let the whole experience down. Waitress placed share platters of the main in strange places (1 between 7, then 2 closely spaced so that it was 1 between 2 further down). She also didn't make it clear how many people each platter was supposed to serve (looked like about 4 portions) so several people actually ended up missing out while people further down had seconds thinking there was plenty.
The same waitress failed to bring back glasses she took away to "top up", leaving some people with no glass. She also "stopped" coffee from being delivered after the meal (without telling guests that was what she was doing) as guests stepped out to look at the garden while they waited (it was taking a while, so instead of continuing to sit, many chose to admire the garden and check out the avery). One guest had to leave without his coffee because of this.
A beautiful place with loads of potential, but ended up being disappointing in several respects due to the waitress not being proficient in her job.
J.
Didn't visit restaurant but shopping is fun. Very cluttered though.
I have just visited again Nov 2019. The restaurant is A1 for food as are the Staff. It is necessary to book a table and there is a choice of times. Excellent service. Didn't have to wait long for our order. Recommend A+++
E.
Great place to eat, service was excellent. Dessert was the best. Was disappointed there was no set menus for vegetarian in mains so you would have to request and price was still a little steep for what it was.
V.
Delightful place to visit. Lots of treasures.
O.
The lovely young barista makes a superb coffee. The kitchen staff make fantastic food and the Front of house are efficient, professional and welcoming. I'll be back...Next week.
H.
Fantastic food, excellent service - cannot recommend it enough, have been many times and never had a bad meal here. The pork is particularly fine today!
And the C4 Coffee is perfect too
M.
Fancy, very nice playground and cool gift shop, ordered fries but they were like whole potatoes so didn't like them and the tomato sauce was like salsa, wouldn't get them again
L.
Sunday 25th Aug 2013 was our 3rd visit to Riverstone. We love the food, it is always fresh, bright and flavoursome. The staff are always friendly, happy, informative and helpful. No matter how frantically busy they are. The wine list is interesting and the wait staff always have a suggestion of which wine would compliment the meal we have chosen.
Not one disappointment.
C.
Went for a wedding what an amazing place.
The gardens are great with lots of walkways with something different around every corner.
The food was awesome too.
Well worth a visit when passing through Oamaru.
M.
Nice restaurant! I enjoyed dinner and the room also! And I enjoyed Hunter Hills Brewery's dark beer!! Hope to go back to South Island of NZ and visit there♪
N.
Beauitful meal with the fresh ingredients which certainly added to the taste. I held the salmon it was Devine . Well worth the stop.
E.
Great location! A little bit removed from town, but it is a beautiful spot and has a great atmosphere. The nearby gift shop also has such a large variety of items that my husband and I spent nearly an hour simply wandering.
S.
Always have had a good meal here. The only problem was once the steaks weren't cooked properly (unevenly and luke-warm). But that was only once, and rumour has it there is a castle being built out the back of the restaurant complete with moat...
Food: Excellent
Service: Excellent
Environs: Good
C.
Excellent restaurant, great staff amazing food definitely recommend 👌
W.
Lovely grounds, kids playground and animals to see. Food overpriced but good
W.
What a gorgeous place, so many things to see and do. Food was divine, awesome selection. Friendly, helpful staff.
C.
Delicious food and great service
D.
Breakfast was nice. Staff were attentive. Gardens beautiful however found it a little over priced
n.
Not my food but great beer and coffee
J.
Interesting place to stop. Lovely gardens. Very busy when we were there and had to wait ages for our coffee. Also advance booking is recommended for lunch. Quite expensive but high end cuisine
K.
Absolutely fabulous place. Staff were so welcoming and attentive. Food sublime. Perfectly cooked and presented. Lovely atmosphere. Will be back for sure.
J.
I was part of a group of 18, we had a set lunch menu and it was beautiful. Good service to for a busy day!
K.
Great food stunning garden good shops what more can you say. A very nice stop leave time to really appreciate it all.
L.
Great food and environment. I had an awesome experience there. Because I’m on a special diet that I could not have any oil, sugar and dairy in my meal, they still manage to made some real delicious dishes.👍
M.
Fabulous playground for children and plenty of parking. Food is fresh and tasty and locally sourced. There is also two large bird enclosures to look at and several large gift shops to lose your partner in for an hour or two.
V.
Fantastic place lovely staff and beautiful food would highly recommend ☺
G.
Delightful atmosphere, very friendly and helpful staff and excellent facilities however most of all - the best food we have ever tasted - will definitely be back for more in the future. Exceptional experience :)
P.
A family group of four emjoyed a very special dinner at Riverstone. We shared the fig entree which was delicious. Bread was light tasty and perfect. We all loved our main meals. The desserts were all incredible. The wait staff are the most helpful, welcoming, accommodating and efficient staff we have ever encountered. Conratulations Riverstone kitchen team.
k.
Delicious food! Great desserts (6-8 amazibg looking pies/cakes on the counter to choose from!) Cosy in winter with a big fire and couches. Also sells some deli items (jams, oils, kimchi etc) and there's amazing kitchen gardens and gift shops to explore
B.
Amazing lunch 10 out of 10 on the Windsor blue salad ...in fact everything the group had was outstanding
P.
Such a wonderful place for the whole family. There is a great playground here. Amazing gardens and gift shops. I only ever get small meals here.
R.
We've been here several times. Sometimes for a meal, sometimes for coffee. Always good. Food is good and service is friendly. Looking around the gardens is a nice bonus.
D.
Great venue for meal. Lovely area for children to play around. Neat shopping, so much to choose from.
M.
Incredible place. High class and great décor while being very family friendly. Very efficient and friendly staff, excellent food, and a huge children's play area outside (as well as a smaller area inside; clean, good toys and can be closed off to help reduce the noise).
W.
Only 4 stars because the so-called "feast menu" started amazingly with four (!) starters, but the main course was really disappointing: simply home made chicken buried in corn, luckily the dessert regained the quality of the starters (pavlova - amazing), therefore four stars still supposed to be adequate...
m.
Fabulous place for family or friends to spend some time at. Great little jampacked gift shops and house decor ranges thats just spectacular. Food is really good, abit pricey but worth it. Lovely spacious gardens with a good view of Dots castle. Love the animals too. Great stop!
H.
Awesome food, wonderful friendly staff and I am very grateful for how easily they where able to change the menu for my dietary needs. Will absolutely be coming back when traveling though next.
A.
Excellent, my wife and I had the fish and chips, it was amazing!
B.
Very interesting place to visit we just wanted a cup of coffee in restaurant service was very slow. Did not have a meal there as it was too early but food looked lovely.
C.
Service is terribly slow, but the food does make up for it. Portion sizes vary with my main of venison coming out with four tiny strips of meat on a huge mound of spinach and beetroot. Upon mentioning to the wait staff that I was unhappy, they offered me another four slices of the meat which did improve the meal.
L.
Always great food. Love browsing the shops. Pays to book if you want a meal
A.
Always top notch food. One of the best places in the South Island, and you can walk in wearing jandals. It's laid back lush. Great beer and wine selection to match the seasonal menu as well.
A.
Outstanding food and service. They continue to maintain their award-winning standard of excellence. Beautiful grounds, interesting gift shops, and a wonderful experience.
C.
Amazing place, the grounds are beautiful, the shops are full with anything you may need or not. The restuarant was fantastic great food and service.
F.
Delicious well presented, lovely staff.
I would love to get their cake recipes .Great coffee of all types.
N.
The grounds and playground are amazing for kids. Perfect place to stretch small legs on a roadtrip. Most of the meals are great, the squid meal is like eating a bowl of coriander and lemon juice. ..I guess some people like that though.
A.
Lovely meal and dessert was to die for. I'll be making the pear and ginger one at home from now on. Keep up the good work. Service was top notch
J.
The food was amazing and the staff were so lovely, I was able to get decent food suitable for a low FODMAP diet and didn't feel like I was missing out.
R.
Excellent service. Delucious garden fresh items on the menu. So nice to walk through the garden and shop.
B.
Fab food and surroundings superb ,great waitress
M.
It's a nice place to stop for a stretch and food before Christchurch. They have small shops with quirky items all around and you can see the castle from the main carpark under contraction. We visited in 2017 the renovation was taking place. From what we were told was to be use as a B&B. We also revisited in Jan 2018 it was still in progress. Would like to see when it all finish.
T.
Stunning place in every corner you look. We visited 8 years ago and so blessed to be able to visit again
J.
Perhaps you may want to look at joining the resistance at resistance dot kiwi to help bring this madness to an end.
T.
Best ever carrot cake ahhh Devine! Perfect companion to my delicious coffee
T.
There are very few places that truely deserve a 5 star ratings - this is one of them. Brilliant coffee, recommend the salt and pepper squid and custard donuts. Staff are super well trained and know their stuff. Quality ingredients and service. And so
Much to do outside you could spend hours here.
If you do one thing in North Otago, make sure you visit Riverstone Kitchen 😀
K.
Stopped for take away coffee and non-essential sweet treat. I highly recommend the blackberry and apple shortcake. Best ever. Scrumptious. Memorable. And I now say ESSENTIAL!
S.

Riverstone is a destination all of its own. The kitchen was closed on a Tuesday when we visited, however the shops are amazing! And best of all hubby can hang out with the kids at the playground (which is huge) while you look around.

C.
Beautiful place. Great (genuinely friendly) service, delicious fresh food and warm atmosphere.
C.
A great place to pull in for a coffee or a feed. I’d have rated it higher had it not been for the exorbitant prices of the cakes and slices, $15 for a small slice of lemon pie!?
L.
Fantastic meal with beautiful surrounds. Really awesome shop too. Thanks Riverstone!
K.
Very nice but cold sitting out on veranda. Need to provide rugs.
C.
