Beautiful location and lovely staff but food was average. Seafood felt pre-frozen and the Vietnamese dishes tasted like they were made with lime concentrate rather than fresh lime juice. Probably won’t go back but was a pleasant enough venue.

Yummy, fresh food. Not greasy or oily like other Asian takeaways around town. Chicken in the stir fry was actually stir fried, not boiled and like jelly, like other places. Delicious. Highly recommend and will dine in next time.

Good parking. Plenty spare seats and tables. Service good and staff helpfull. Not big selection on menu but enough items. Thats good as some restaurants have a jammed up menu. Different level of spices so really hot to medium. Other food not spicy also. Drinks served. Children can get meals and im sure they would accommodate meals for them. We go there about 6 times a year

We often go there when our friends visit us. Not very spacy and can get pretty busy and hard to book. Food is good, adults and kids both love them. Not many variety of deserts, but enough to please us. We probably would go back. Added 08/08/19: The food was excellent and would come back, but unfortunately, customer service was not up to our standard. We booked us at 7:45pm and waited and waited but food never being served then around 8:40pm waitress who took our order rush back to us saying they lost our order so we need to reorder, my goodness, restaurant looked almost empty as most of them already gone. They cooked us dinner as quick as possible, but it was already around 9pm when food arrived. We were kind of expecting manager to come and say some apology but none. Especially we brought 3 kids too so wanted to finish dinner asap and get them to bed. I understand mistake happens but what you would do when you did mistake is I think important. Luckily, food was great so I would come back but was not the best experience.

The atmosphere inside the restaurant was very impressive, beautiful deco and lighting, and a special view of the St Clair ocean. We also really appreciated being squeezed in on a busy Saturday night when we had no reservation. Unfortunately, our order got lost on its way to the kitchen resulting in a one hour wait for our food. It wouldn't have been so bad if someone had warned us about the wait or made some kind of gesture like a free drink while we waited or something, but they were just too busy to do much about it. The food itself was pretty good, but lacked flavour. They do note on the menu that they don't use MSG, which is great, but we still hoped for a little bit better to make the wait worth it. The food was pretty good, but not great enough to make us want to go back for more.

I am givive this 3 stars as the food is very good, unfortunately the service is where Spirit House falls apart. There does not seem to be any system/constantly i.e. staff waiting their own tables. After 10mins of being seated had to ask for a wine glass for BYO. After another 10mins had to ask again. Entrees came out quickly, with no cutlery, no serving plates After waiting 5 mins, I helped myself to the cutlery. Mains came out within a good time, again no cutlery or serving plates provided. It did not go unnoticed that other tables were also struggling to get any table service. I feel like McDonald's would do a better job of table service.

Easy to get a table without booking. Food serving is quick. Location is good with a nice view. Ordered spicy and sour prawns soup (thai spicy) and it’s very tasty with a kick. Mango lassi is super tasty. Highly recommend.

This is the restaurant we go most often. The taste is very Asian and easy to adapt to. Their sauce is their secret which makes the cheap vegetables they put in different dishes taste delightful.

This place has an amazing location in the esplanade and a great atmosphere inside. Unfortunately thing have changed between my last 2 visits. The drinks list has lost all the craft beers, and the food just isn't as good as it used to be, rather bland, and I feel that the price of everything went up... Side plates at our table were dirty too. Won't be rushing back.

Service was good. Four diners received food spasmodically. First fed was well through meal by the time the last was served. Very average food with little flavour. Not good enough for a doggy bag. Plenty of quantity and well priced. Take a torch or phone to read the menu.

Great for going and choosing your own meal but when went as a group on a busy night had to order from set menu... the 3 options were all unimpressive, quite a few rice based dishes and bowls of plain rice as well also noodle based dish and roti bread.. wish there was more vege and meat. Would still go back as long as wasnt set menu.

Have been to the Spirit House several times and always loved dining here but this time it wss disappointing. The food was beautifully presented but everyone in our group felt their dish was 'ordinary'- lacked the expected flavour and there was just no 'excitement'. Great service and warm on cold night.

Best thing to do is to book in advance because if the place is full...you will be turned away .. and it is quite a busy, sort after restaurant and very popular. Celebrated our 32nd Wedding Anniversary there. Just stunning.👍

Amazing Wedding Anniversary Meal! Beautiful setting & location. We both had a 3 course meal and everything was delightful. My husband was delighted with his sea food bowl as many places we have eaten in New Zealand the seafood has been pretty awful but this was fresh, flavour some and not measly portion. :) Cheers

One of the nicest, casual dining experiences you will have Dunedin. Food was fantastic with all four dishes being superb. Lamb Shanks in a mild curry is out of this world, try it if you love Lamb Shanks. We sat st window table overlooking St Clair beach and watched surfers doing their thing. A great way to spend it with friends. Staff were pleasant and food came out in a short time. Excellent night out.

Can't recommend this place enough, I always get the double lamb shanks and find myself having to resist licking the bowl every time! It's a bit dark though if you dine in at night, maybe when you are seated they could ask/offer you better optional table lights or something.

The food was excellent. However I was very disappointed to find when I and my partner ordered the banquet option to be told we had to be a party of five or more. There was no warning of this on the menu or on the web site. This damped our experience somewhat. I was also disappointed that our waitress who was polite had hair all over the place even though was tied back was very untidy.

An incredibly busy restaurant right on the Waterfront. As a popular restaurant, reservations are highly recommended. Arriving early is essential as parking is difficult to find in the immediate vicinity. Service and food are absolutely top notch, perfect for celebration dinners.

Wasn't as good as I remember. There wasn't a lot of flavour in my meal. They used to have a great selection of craft beers but now it's only the basics. I was a bit disappointed.

It was ok, Got takeaway one night, the crispy noodles were dumped under my lemon chicken sauce and had a soggy mass and the curry puffs and roti were sub par. I live 2 blocks away so wasn't the commute that killed it either. Expensive for what we ended up getting. Getting 3 stars as I can;t comment on dining in quality.

was in Dunedin for Queens Birthday weekend and stopped in for an early dinner after a full day of touristing in this beautiful city. was greeted straight away and told dinner service didnt start for another hour, but we were welcome to have a drink and wait until the chef came back on duty, which we did. The views from the conservatory are stunning! .. the service was impeccable; friendly and personable and the steaks were incredible!! .. will be back next time in in Dunedin
