Authentic Japanese food, cooked and run Japanese staff. This is where you can taste the difference. This place is kind of hidden away on Victoria Street but not hard to find. Free 2 hours on street parking so no need to rush. Lots to choose from food and drink menus. Staff work very hard and offer friendly and helpful service. Vaccine Pass is required as per Jacindas rule. Tempura dish was so crispy, and better than i-Japanese Cafe up the road. Highly recommended to give this place a go. We will definitely return. Awesomeans authentic food, beautifully presented on the plates, can't say enough. Give it a go and you will know what I mean.

Food is overall good except for the tempura sauce and chicken are under-seasoning. Love the grill fish. Beautiful plating. The biggest drawback is the dishes are served really slow. There was only one table before us (about 8 people) and it took 30 minutes for our first dish to be served. I guess there’s only one chef cooking. Would like to come again but would definitely check how many customers are already there before entering.

First time I have been here at Tatsuta. The staff is very friendly and the waiter was amazing with lots of inside knowledge on the foods. I'd 100% definitely come here again. It's family friendly with lots of amazing shareable meals. I love the scallops and clams meal. It has the most amazing ginger sauce ever.

Great place to eat. Very authentic. Check out the reading material they provide and definitely taste the lamb. I eat out most days and I rarely bother to review. Try this place. You will enjoy the traditional Japanese style and amazing food

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Great service even though it was very busy with most tables occupied. Food was delicious and good portion size for a reasonable price. Will definitely be back

The food always hits the spot. The specials are seasonal and fresh. Love the Izakaya vibe, something we didn't have in Hamilton so much. The lunch specials are very reasonable in price, but the chef always exceeds the expectation. My only problem is that the restaurant actually closes quite early. It's not so much that I need to eat faster, but I want to be able to soak in with the atmosphere. Well, I am also a slow eater so that, too. When you order delivery, the packaging is done well so the food doesn't spill/leak. Having the sushi set or sashimi plate is always the highlight of the day.

The food was so fresh, quality and delicious. I love the warm Sake soo muchhhh. It tastes really amazing and such a good combination with Sashimi. Worth is every bites! Highly recommended❤️

Love this place so much, it reminds me exactly of the stores in Tokyo. The staff are really lovely too. I highly recommend a visit if your looking for some Japanese. Give the Yuzu soda a try too!

The most beautiful intimate japenese restaurant , excellent service, excellent food, I went there on a date, so if you wanna go out for a romantic date with perfectly good food (that's not too heavy on the tummy) I would definitely suggest this place, it's a must, will be going back for a second date 🥰

For the fifth time we have been to this truly Japanese restaurant ran by a real Japanese owners. Tatsuta san cooks amazing dishes and his creativity cooking pleases new and repeated customers. If you are looking for a reliable and delicious Japanese food, look no further, this is the place!

Best Japanese food in town! Always fresh and beautifully presented. If it's busy, you will have to wait a bit as the chef is making everything right then but it's worth it. Very friendly wait staff too :)

A bit overrated, this restaurant. While the food was fresh and delicious, the prices were a bit steep and portions quite small. If they are trying to be a classy restaurant they need to work on the decor. On the plus side, the restaurant was kid friendly and there was a vegetarian menu that indicated clearly which dishes contained egg.

Excellent and authentic Japanese. We ordered a vast selection of share plates including okonomiyaki, croquettes, tempura, gyoza, calamari, karaage and matcha icecream and they were all delicious. Would happily return again.

Came here as saw reviews that they serve ramen but it was not available for dinner. However the menu is quite extensive. Food is generally very nice and the shop seems to also offer a variety of Japanese liquor (beer, gin and whiskey). Only issue we had was the service speed is relatively slow as there was only 1 person cooking and 1 serving. However staff was polite and food was authentic.

Food was great, like really really good but the service not so much. Waited 45 minutes on our first set of dishes so when they arrived we wanted to order again immediately so we wouldn't wait too long between the sets. The waitress checked her watch like we were ordering too close to closing even though it was only 8pm. Ordered a second drink a good while after finishing the first and she said "another one?!" Like I was drinking too much! Then when I tried to order a 3rd much later again she didn't bring it. So I gave up. Such a shame as loved the food.

I love this place. The food is fresh and tasty but is also visually pleasing. The owner is a genuine Japanese Chef so the food is certainly authentic and the atmosphere in the dining area is comfortable and warm. The staff are very polite & welcoming so if a visit to Hamilton, NZ is on the cards I would like to recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely the most amazing Japanese in Hamilton!! Husband and I came here for lunch on a Sunday. It was quite busy but the wait was what I would expect for such quality food. The staff were so friendly too! I will definitely be eating here more often, and I regret not coming sooner!

Lovely little hole in the wall place with some good food and a great flavour palate. Not the place to grab a lot to eat as it's somewhat expensive. But it's definitely worth trying out if you're a fan of asian and especially Japanese cuisine.

Very underrated and impressive Japanese restaurant in Hamilton, of all places. Excellent dishes that I would compare to establishments like Nishiki in Auckland. Family owned and you can taste it. If my partner, who lived, studied, and worked in Japan for many years, was impressed then that should speak for itself. Get in early, this place is always busy later into the evening!

Hands down the best Ramen in Hamilton. Cheerful service, tidy environment. Price is a little bit high compared to other Japanese restaurants. Could adjust that a bit. Anyway, we enjoyed our lunch. Everything is yummy and authentic.

Went for dinner with family and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food and service. The sushi was all very well presented and tasted good, I recommend the nigiri sets you will not be disappointed. And the Adagashi tofu was silky smooth and well fried. I will for sure be back for lunch.

Fabulous for the type of restaurant it is. It's an izikaya style restaurant so you won't see some dishes you might expect in NZ such as ramen or don buri. The eggplant was a highlight and I didn't get past the small plates! I will be back.
