Q.
A surprisingly authentic Malaysian restaurant in Hamilton. The food has decent Wok-Hei (product of Diels-Alder reaction and Maillaird reaction). We tried the Wat Tan Hor (rice noodle in smooth egg) and Hainanese Chicken Rice. Taste was authentic, but noticeably some things that can be improved on are: 1. Softer/smoother rice noodles (understandably difficult to obtain in New Zealand) 2. Addition of deep fried pork lard 3. Slightly less overcooked chicken for the chicken rice and addition of coriander 4. Sesame oil for the bean sprouts
All in all a very satisfying meal, and I would be happy to dine here again.

We got a good service here each time)The taste of streamed fish was quite bitter for me due to much wine but the shef changed the sauce and we got new meal👌
Average dumplings, but not bad for this low price)) Perfect Beef with ginger and green onion, yammy Sichuan style chicken and fried noodles)))I liked black pepper sizzling squid despite it was a bit overcooked, sauce was fantastic) good place with 10$ lunch, I recommend))

We did not want to visit this restaurant before as the place is usually empty but decided to give it a try one time.
Not really particular if they got whatever cuisine right but the mee goreng noodles are delicious. Had tried some of the other dishes as well and it was also good. Affordable menu and a recommended alternative to some of the crowded restaurants along Victoria street.

Had Chicken Laksa & Char Kway Tiaw (CKT). We find the Laksa a bit bland and lacks the aroma of Curry Leaves. The CKT tasted sweet and without any "Wok Hei". Onions Slices & Spring Onions were added to the CKT; these caused it to lose its authenticity.
I would say both items are cooked to suit Kiwis rather Msian/Sporean taste buds .

Delious food with polite staff and a quiet environment, one of Hamilton's hidden gems.

I've just enjoyed a DELICIOUS lunch - for only $10!!!
It was the price that drew me in, but I am delightfully impressed,!
At Kampong House the service is attentive, charming and caring.
There is a broad menu - bringing back memories of my travels to KL and the countryside, and also to Singapore.
I ordered a Beef Rendand, which was superb!
I will definitely be back ... often!

I think I found it: the best jianbing in New Zealand. It's more fun when you can watch them make it, but the wonderful part here is in the eating. I have eaten my way across the hutongs of Dongcheng, down side alleys where the hot plates get going early in the morning, and Beijingers line up for jianbing. This one in Hamilton was just as delicious and just as carefully made. Let it be our little secret...

Authentic food, large portion, tentative service. Will definitely be back.
