Reviews of Lazat Restaurant & Bar
M.
Beautiful restaurant in the middle of Victoria Street. Under new management, the cuisine is legitimately 🤩. Little we know how delicious this regional meal is. The presentation and portion was on the spot. The internal decorations are well placed and clean. The chicken meal was super tender and well seasoned. Toilets were super fancy and nice. Certainly a pleasant dining experience to go for.
E.
Good Malaysian food. Nicely priced as well.
A.
Great experience today, felt super looked after by the very friendly and skilled FOH. Service alone was enough to bring me back. The Laksa was tasty and was the lunch portion size, I was salivating for more so definitely will be back to try the dinner portion, however looking closer at the menu has me keen to venture to other options as other reviews suggest.
R.
A mixed response on our recent visit there after strong word of mouth under new management. As a malaysian living in Hamilton, it is truly perplexing how little Malaysian food scene has penetrated the market although appreciably a testing time for the hospitality industry. It is great to see another establishment coming in
Pros - Very friendly service, food came out within 10-15minutes, a very nice touch by owner Nigel coming out to meet the patrons. Hokkien mee was well portioned, generous with seafood quantity, perhaps a bit mild/sweet for my palate compared to the authentic style you would get in Malaysia.
Cons - Limited dishes on menu with some unavailable. Dishes are on the pricier side in comparison to other asian eateries. Laksa was very heavy on noodle quantity and low on broth which lacked flavour and depth and was very mild. Sambal requested but never received. Chicken rice came with a tiny portion of rice and meat quantity on the small side. If ordered on its own by a single person I would say there is a high chance you would still be hungry. Not sure if it's because it is a popular dish for the place (based on a quick look at other tables) meant it had to be rationed but considering the generous portions of the two noodle dishes, we were disappointed. Chicken was moist but lacked flavour. Condiments that accompanied the dish tasted off (excessive vinegar) and did not complement the dish well
Overall - we came out generally satisfied but perhaps underwhelmed as it seems dishes have been overly accommodated to a western palate. I appreciate everyones palate is different may I suggest front of house staff considering to ask patrons on level of heat so that spice level can be adjusted. As a Malaysian, I would really like to support the place but unless there is a change in menu and with more authentic flavours don't think we will return

We took our family to Lazat for dinner tonight having driven past and thought it looked interesting. What a great choice?! The food was authentic, tasty, and we got to try a couple of dishes that we hadn't had before. The Yong Tau Foo platter was unique and really tasty. The Roti Canai was outstanding. If you haven't tried genuine Malaysian cuisine, or if you just want some quality, tasty food, give Lazat a try.
G.
Authentic Malaysian food fare. Ambience under new management great. Chef makes a genuine effort to mingle with customers. Toilets exceptionally clean and fragrant and tasteful decor. This place under new management, owner is a professional chef and good team is a far cry from previous Mnx. A Must visit for Malaysian food with genuine authentic flavors. Guna Kanniah

Good food, very nice ambience

It's finally time to review your delicious dishes especially "Curry Laksa" as it's my wife's favourite dish and I have tried the lamb dish last week recommended by your friendly staff definitely loved it very much! Also all the meats are 100% Halal, Cheers.
S.
Best cocktails in town! Stunning atmosphere, you can even watch the chef prepare the parata bread. Staff was helpful and friendly. Well priced and generous servings. Will definitely be back!!
A.
Great authentic/contemporary Malaysian diner. We had a lovely experience. Very friendly staff, and even friendly customers. One of the meals we ordered was forgotten, and then they offered it for free after we reminded them.
Prices are reasonable and meals portions are OK for the prices. We will definitely come back.
The restaurant is also very clean.
K.
My Nasi Goreng was SEDAP! (YUMMY) OK, so we are in Level 3 and dinner in a takeaway box isn't the same as on a plate, but I really enjoyed my meal and look forward to seeing it on a plate - there was maybe even to much food, I struggled to finish the baked cheesecake dessert. For me, any restaurant prepared to open and serve up great food during Level 3 is gonna score highly. Keep up the good work & as Arnie says - I'll be back.
A.
Would have given 5 stars but due to apparent issues, starters and desserts were not available so we can't rate those. The mains we had were delicious - ingredients were fresh, perfectly seasoned and well portioned. Mocktails were tasty. Will definitely return when starters and desserts are back on the menu.
M.
Delicious, authentic food at a really reasonable price. Thanks for the great meal, we'll definitely be back!
S.
Overall the food was tasty, a pleasant dining experience spoiled a little by a very small Chicken Satay starter. Skinniest skewers I've ever seen by a long way!
C.
Small restaurant but big on flavour. Food was incredibly delicious. Everything is appropriately priced. Will be back again.
J.
Really enjoyed the food here at Lazat there was nothing that we could fault. Thought the restaurant was small from the outside but its actually very spacious with good ambience. Te tahrik taste like the ones we had in Malaysia. Food is just the right amount and well priced. Im suprised we were the only one in there given how good the food is, in saying that we went on a weekday so im sure this place gets busy on m the weekend. We wil definitely come back and recommend guys!
C.
Really good food with authentic ingredients. The coconut rice is easily the best I've had in New Zealand and better than the average in Malaysia. The food is primarily Indian Malaysian with some Malay dishes. People who are looking for Chinese Malaysian food with too much sugar added should look elsewhere. The portions are not the biggest, but this is a place that competes on quality, not portion size. The prices are about what one should expect given the ambience of the restaurant, but they may be a bit high if you order take-out.
D.
Food was OK. The place looked nice.
I ordered 2 dishes but got given 3, and charged for it I think. I was going to check but the bag was cellotaped so I just left it till I got to the house to open. The 3rd random dish was less than average. The Char kuey teow was salty. Nasi lamak was ok.
J.
We randomly chose to dine here last night not really knowing that much about Malaysian cuisine or what to expect. What a fantastic stroke of good fortune that we did. Wow, what incredible flavours. We were stoked with the service, the feel of the place and the price (on a par with the neighbouring Indian restaurants and way better than the mainstream Anglo-kiwi restaurants in Hamilton), but the food was something else again. We will be back for sure.
A.
A new menu this week - fantastic flavours and friendly, knowledgeable service.

I've been here a few times and the service and food is usually very good. The curries, the soups and the prata are delicious. The last time we went the head chef was away so it wasn't as nice as usual but still good. The sweet coffee they serve was really nice the first time too. Not so much when the main chef was away.
p.
Walked in with friend on Saturday night! Had great Ambience with lovely staff.
The Food was 10/10 and Refresher (Mocktail) was amazing! :D Service was really fast as well.
Surely gonna go back for Prata and Dhal!
T.
Food was delicious and service very good. My favourite dishes were curry laksa, beef rendang, mee goreng mamak and the bread. Our first visit and we will definitely return.
D.
I really want to rate it more, but... we booked but still had to wait outside in the rain for 30 minutes, and they ran out of both the entree x2 we ordered and the prata (which is 80% of the reason why we went in the first place). Such potential, but let down on things which should be simple fixes. Ultimately the replacement entrees were provided free, but unfortunately would have rather had a table at the time we booked and the dishes we ordered.
A.
Authentic, smooth, flavourful, delicious, inexpensive. I’m surprised there aren’t queues going out the door to get a seat in this place. It’s brilliant. I’ll be recommending this place to the people I like!
S.
The Food was exquisite and order came within a very reasonable time. Food was still hot on arrival. A Great Establishment will be dining here again 10/10
M.
Excellent food with outstanding customer service. The staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The environment is great and the decor is luxurious.
Highly recommended to visit and the verity of dishes available makes it even more attractive. Vegans, meat lovers and Halal processed meats won't be disappointed.
P.
Have dined at Lazat twice. Good cocktails. Great authentic Malaysian food, and helpful staff. They have also done a good fit out which makes it a comfortable experience. Its interesting to watch the chef spin dough while making bread.
In a town dominated by Indian and Chinese restaurants, this is a wonderful addition to the Hamilton dining scene
A.
Good value and delicious food. I got medium but was far more mild than I have had in Malaysia so ask for hot or extra hot if you want a bit of spice. Great service too.
J.
Fantastic, vibrant new restaurant. Had a lovely experience there with friendly and professional staff. Food was fresh, authentic, and delicious. I've been recommending to all my friends and can't wait to go back. :)
E.
Visited Lazat with some friends (one of whom is Malaysian), the service was quite slow.. no one took our order for about 15-20 mins which wasn't ideal. The food was good but quite pricey for what it is according to my friend. The decor was super cool though.
L.
This restaurant has very quickly become one of our favourite dining spots in Hamilton. The food is fantastic full of flavour and well presented. Next time try the Roti Prata with a Dahl or Fish gravy. The staff are super friendly and the surroundings are very pleasant, and all this very reasonably priced.
D.
Friendly Staff. Great tasting food and plenty of it. Decor doesn't match Malay but is nice anyhow. Worth a visit if you like Asian foods.
M.
This place was amazing! We had a group of 25 people who booked last minute. When we arrived our words were wow it looks beautiful. Very friendly helpful service. The food was so yummy and beautifully presented. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant. Thank you for such a great evening Lazat. From C3 Church Tauranga.
K.
Loved the ambience of the place.
Cons experienced at the place was overcome by the owner’s response. Really appreciate the customer centric approach.
Would love to visit the place again.
L.

J.
Love the food and service, Enjoyable and easy and simple to receive and pay for. Love the place and workers there it was very authentic, Will be ordering and eating there again
l.
Taste authentic street food but price is moderate high.
V.
Best Prata in Hamilton. Lamb rendang was as good as the ones I've had in Malaysia. Nice ambience and quick service. Prices are between 15-20 for most dishes so reasonable for it's central location
A.
Service is great. Food is tasty and vegetarian options are available. Roti Prata is soft & fluffy. Try Kopi C (Malaysian coffee) or Kopi T (Malaysian Tea), with condense milk. It's delicious. Wine, beer & cocktails are also available.
S.
The time when you walk in until you leave is an amazing experience. The food is outstanding. Hamilton folk are a lucky bunch. We need this in Auckland. Thanks to all the staff.
B.
Our new go-to restaurant in Hamilton. Prompt & friendly service. Exquisite food, delightfully seasoned leaving a lingering taste, beautifully plated, warm ambience. Recommend chicken pandang, beef rendang, and soft roti. Move over Madame Woo!
H.
Good place, friendly service, ordered the fried noodles with chicken, although it tasted good, it barely had any chicken
T.
Tasty food. Will come back. Recommend you try the Prata variants. Get a few different flavours. Also the coconut rice instead of the regular rice is good idea.
P.
Great food. The roti canai was as good as back home. Nasi lemak was pretty good. Would have been perfect if the sambal was more spicy
O.
Nice food and not bad price, but used too much MSG and wife had a headache because of it
V.
A group of us went to celebrate a Birthday - the number if people present was not set and the staff were wonderful - rearranging tables to accomodate us as more arrived. Food was wonderful and we had a Brilliant time - thankyou
S.
stopped by to get some dinner in Hamilton, googled Malaysian and this place came up. Very impressed with the service and food. would come back!
M.
Busy little place. I think Hamilton was relieved to finally get Malaysian but unfortunately the Laska is not proper laska. It tastes nice enough but it's been changed to suit a mild palate. So I'll still have to drive up to Auckland to get a proper laska.
J.
Best food in town, lovely people and excellent service with smile always.
Would highly recommend to all and will visit again & again.
Thank you guys
