Lovely flavours and well refined dishes. Staff are very attentive and all meals are served beautifully presented. The flavours are just adequate, and not overwhelming. There are lots of options to choose from, to fit everyone's needs.

Very nice and well lit restaurant, excellent location.Staff were amazing and their prompt service. Food could have been seasoned a bit more. Ambience could be uplifted with some good traditional Malay music or an Asian inspired Lounge music. Music playing at the restaurant felt like dining at a regular cafe style. Value for money, a bit pricey. Could have put some street style decor to uplift the ambience. Still given 4 star but all the above could make it 5 star. Cheers

Loved the menu and food. Fried rice was yummy! Would have given 5 star but the kids menu fried noodles was very plain. It seemed like they were just soaked in soy sauce. But that's our experience, could be different for everyone. Overall, food and service was awesome!!!

We booked 25 minutes ahead of going, we went in a family group of 6 adults and 1 child. The service was nice and quick and the food was good, great ambience there too. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

Did an online pick up. Ordered as missing the normal rice to go with and rendang curry and only found out when I got home. Was not worth a 30 odd minute to pick up so Sent message that has not been replied to :( guess they just happy they got a sale 😞 Otherwise the food was tasty as always.

Great service, lovely staff. Food is consistently good every time, and the location is nice with outdoor seating in summer overlooking trees and very close to the river. Loved the food!

The squid was amazing, 90% of restaurants destroy it, and serve you an old gumboot. Top Mark's. The beef Redang melts in your mouth, and is packed with flavour. Wow my first visit of many to come.

I had been wanting to try this one for a while and unfortunately was a little disappointed. For somewhere that is raved about the food is ok. The presentation of the pork stirfry needs some work & the waitresses need to be a little less over bearing. My Friend assures me the one in Auckland is much better so I will reserve my final judgement for now.

Great food! Good service!! Manager lied about bookings.. wanted us to sit us at bar even though we had reservations. Would have walked out, if she didn't seated us in the restaraunt. Table she claimed was booked..stayed empty all night. Still despite that..would visit again for the food and the staff service!

Came here for dinner for two of us, had some share plates, beef rendang, chicken slaw, roti, rice, duck gawker role and wontons. Beautiful food, amazing flavours, all very fresh, nice sharing plates. Great out on the balcony and great view across the river. Definitely recommend.

A few days into my 2-weeks trip to New Zealand, I started to miss Malaysian food. So when we reached Hamilton after our Waitomo glow-worm tour to stay for the night, I decided to go to this popular Madam Woo, a Malaysian food restaurant, located in the heart of this city. It was so popular with the locals here but lucky for us we managed to find a table. Upon browsing we settled for a few dishes. We didn't order much knowing how big portion the food in NZ. ◾turmeric chicken grilled satay NZD12 - nothing beats my fav satay in Malaysia but this dish was above average with juicy meat and peanut sauce. ◾roti canai - the curry was mediocre but at least the roti came piping hot and crispy. Polished by the girls. ◾nasi lemak with five spiced fried chicken NZD16 - the son wanted to eat nasi lemak so much and I added extra fried chicken (for myself to nibble). If I were to be picky, too much cucumber, and the sambal was decent. Chicken was competently prepared though. ◾laksa NZD18 - perhaps the most disappointing of the lot. The laksa broth doesn't come close even to the normal laksa that I had in Malaysia. I don't know how to describe this - too creamy and too thick until I felt jelak at some point. It was more like a quick dinner to get out craving fix.. this is probably the atas Malaysian restaurant that you can find in New Zealand... They do have branches in Auckland and Queenstown as well.

Really great food and great service. They cater well for big groups, there were roughly 10 of us. Lots of space and lots of staff on which was ideal. I got the mee goreng noodles, they were awesome! They had a bit of everything and were quite filling. Good quality food and big portions for what you're paying for and it was well worth it.

Dinner for six. Restaurant not too busy. Premises are an old building. Very well decked out - tasteful. Food generally well thought of by my group. Not much in the vegan line. The vegan food I did get was green veges and tofu, but they didn't add the tofu!! Very average size too. No vegan deserts. Staff we not bad. We did get two deserts served on one plate (go figure) and we had to ask for a new plate for the person who missed out. No apologies. Plates not fully cleared away after courses; no water refresh on table, so could have been better overall. I think other places do better, but try it yourself and see what you think.

We have been going to Madam Woo on a regular basis since the day one they opened. I have to say their service has deteriorated over the years. The service at tonight’s dinner is below average. With our online booking we still had to wait for a while to be seated. During our dinner we had to grab the waitress’ attention all the time asking for a straw for cocktail ( twice ) & topping up our water. A young girl who served us is pretty to look at but useless at her job. When she asked how was our meal , we could clearly feel that she didn’t even care just simply went through the procedure. ‘ A cold robot ‘ is how I would describe her . She also forgot our dessert order ( ice cream) . The duty manager came out and apologised with offering us a free dessert. I do give them some credit to fix the problem. Overall the impression from tonight’s service is to get their job done rather than providing an enjoyable experience to their customers. Food is not amazing enough for me to ignore the drop of the service . For the price I paid today I should have many other choices somewhere else in Hamilton therefore I will stop going to Madam Woo for a while. I hope the business owner can take some time & read this review & lift their service. I also believe one important technique for hospitality staff called “ smile “ should be educated at Hamilton Madam Woo.

The fried chicken even with the sauce is quite bland. The other food was decent, but not really worth the price. $75 for two people is definitely not what I'd expect to pay for lunch.

Lovely atmosphere, nice low lighting. Food was good and arrived very fast, but wasn’t warm enough unfortunately. Staff was nice, but over attentive which was a bit disturbing as our plates and glasses were checked every few minutes interrupting conversations.

The food and the service were good. We ordered an appetizer that was somewhat like a crab taco, and it was very tasty, but not a very generous portion. They allowed us to customize our drinks, which was great. The waitress did forget to order one of our entrees, but it wasn't a big deal, and it wasn't a reflection of the rest of the service.

This was a firm favourite but our visit was a little disappointing this time round. The tables for two are now very small, and it's hard to fit multiple dishes on them without feeling squashed. They are also too close together and the seating not quite right for the table height. Sadly, and surprisingly, the food was not up to its usual standard, it didn't have the depth of taste it usually does, and seemed rushed rather than developed in order to get those rich deep flavours. The staff are always welcoming and prompt.

Had a wonderful evening at Madam Woo last Sunday night. The staff were very accommodating with my elderly parents and our waiter was very patient organising food for one of our party with a shellfish allergy. Great flavours. Will definitely be back!

on Sunday afternoon we booked a table for 5. if it wasn't for the food being so tasty you guys wouldn't of got 3 stars, we asked for water cors one of the guess i was with had a spicy mouth but didn't end up getting it until we asked again 20min later. plus the maître d' didn't feel like she was having a good day. but lovely meals enjoyed the food 100%.

Chaotic service which was both overly slow and overly quick in places. The front desk was hilariously slow and inefficient, the drinks came eventually, but the food came thick and fast. Everything we had was delicious (particularly the beef rendang) and the cocktail I ordered was fine. Atmosphere’s slightly lacking but I enjoyed the decor.

Thanks to the beautiful restaurant, who served 8 of us, great customer service, and the kai selection was absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection. Kai was out in a timely fashion between each meal. The air conditioning was a little cold for awhile but understand once u start eating u need the cool air.

Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang Delicious but quite dry. Beef Rendang is the dry type, combined with the - more hard than crunchy - ikan bilis results in an overly dry experience. I would appreciate a saucier Rendang and the chicken may have been different. It was a shame the cucumber wasn't achar as there was quite a lot of it. Those being the only two nitpicks, overall a tasty meal. Perfect eggs and plenty of everything.

Wow this place never disappoints! The beef rendang is our favourite pick but you can't really go wrong with any dish. The nicest flavors and personally I couldn't find any better food in Malaysia than this.

Our favorite Hamilton restaurant for lunch or dinner. Try a cocktail pre-meal. We had the squid, pork belly, shared pan fried veges and a rice. Truly delicious. Courteous servers who know the entire menu.

I can't deny the atmosphere is appealing people but the quality of food (I ordered laksa with prawn) is a bit doubtful. It was obvious to me the flavor of it is quite tailored to local people here although it says authentic ... ( When I lived in Singapore I used to go to Malaysia quite often to enjoy laksa....)

Always happy with Madame Woo's. The menu changes a little bit every so often so return visits aren't repetitive. But the favorites (beef rendang, roti donut with ginger ice-cream) are usually there. We visited this evening (on a Thursday) and the place was humming, not completely full but most tables were occupied which is always a good sign.

Great service from attentive staff. Great atmosphere that isn't pretentious. Good presentation and plating. Note that it is the restaurant's take on Malaysian food and a darn good effort too. Methodology and balancing of seasoning and use of spices is quite spot on considering that we are in NZ, well away from the real deal. Certainly the place to introduce friends to Malaysian cuisine. Definitely returning!

This place was great! The service was lovely and the food was spectacular. 5 star all round. I especially loved the ambience. The only two things I found slightly annoying was the proximity of the tables which made it so you could hear others conversations, and that the ice cream (coconut salted mango) didn't have any mango taste. We dined tonight for the first time. The 4 Cheese Roti's were absolutely delicious they came with a peanut puree and were the most delicious little morsals we have ever had!! Beef was tender with just the perfect amount of flavouring The Curry Laksa was slightly bland, needed salt or extra flavour? We enjoyed the Hallertau Beer!! Fabulous meals the manager looked fabulous and was so lovely and pleasant and staff were very attentive. Overall we enjoyed the food and would dine again also order their dumplings and cheese roti through Uber Eats!

The dim mood lighting could be turned up a few more lumens.Parking isn't an issue,there's plenty on the south end of Victoria Street.

I think this is the place with the quickest service EVER ! The food was delicious. We didn't have a reservation, but they gave one of the reserved tables for us for a short period of time. We still had a great time. Make sure you book in advance.

One of the managers came over and told us she was sending another one of the dishes we ordered, out to our table free of charge as she thought it was a little on the dry side. Love the flavours here! A really delicious take on Malaysian street food in a very classy and comfortable restaurant. A highlight being the hawker rolls... but everything is delicious. Last time we ate here we were with someone who could not have gluten. They made changes to all we ordered so we could share everything. They can be busy at times so be sure to book a head.

Textures of the main pork belly dish were good but its flavour was rather muddied and overpowered by the marinade or seasoning as were the accompanying wok fried vegetables. This is a lovely restaurant that is large yet feels cosy. Good bar and selection of drinks. The food is Asian street style but done in a more upmarket way. The honey soy squid may be the best dish I have had in a restaurant. Have been back a few times and service and food always very good.

I love this place! The Hawker rolls are definitely a must, and also try the wontons - delicious! The ginger mojito changed my life. A great place to go with a small crowd. Five to six people are ideal for sharing a range of dishes, and being able to interact with everyone over the circular tables.

Lack of parking, proximity of the tables are the negatives. If you decide to go there, try getting the outside tables and please order 'pulled pork hawker rolls'. Can cost around $80 for 2 people including drinks.. you can dress as casually as you want.. staff is lovely but lunch times can distract them as there are not sufficient number of them.. food is well presented and delicious

I would call this 'Malaysian inspired' cuisine, the tastes in the dishes are definitely Malaysian in origin, but the execution is definitely geared towards a wider audience. Almost fusion. The food is of quality, while remaining rather pricey (Malaysian cuisine is famous for street hawker styled food - typically cheap dishes rather than upmarket ones). If you're looking for true Malaysian cuisine, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. But if you're looking for a good night out with good food, Madam Woo does deliver on that front - just not authentic Malaysian cuisine per say.

Has option to either choose food individually our have a banquet where the table chooses from options. I really liked the laksa and would recommend it. While I did not have it the consensus was that the roti donut was delicious. No espresso coffee but the Vietnamese coffee was good. The service was very good with our waitress being knowledgeable about the menu and providing good advice when asked but otherwise being unobtrusive. Spacious with good decor.

General soft skills of serving staff members are very disappointing and needs to be worked on as I found basic customer soft skills are the biggest let down from the Restaurant. Food quality is good but very small portion considering the price.

Wonderful service and setting, but the food is not particularly inspiring. Many of the dishes are too sweet by any standard (and grotesquely so by mainstream Malaysian standards). You're very likely to have an enjoyable experience at a reasonable price, but don't expect authenticity.

This is the first place in hamilton that will serve you late in the evening. They really are passionate about customer service and the food is divine. Love it. We went there last night and had a really amazing dinner. The service and food was excellent. Jen and the team really know how to make dining out a true experience. Josh and the team have really changed the entire dining scene in HAMILTON as there are now a number of restaurants opening till late. In 2015 you would still be told that the kitchen was closing at around 9pm.

Love the food at Madam Woo’s. Their sticky pork hawker rolls are on point. I also had the chicken salad which was perfectly balanced with a nice amount of heat to it. Service is excellent. Would recommend the Can Lah beer from Garage Project for a light and refreshing craft beer with not too much hops.

Highlight of my trips to Hamilton. The honey and soy squid is incredible, thinking if it now is making me hungry. The rest if the food is equally delicious. 4 meals would do 2 people easily and you will be nicely full at the end of it. Staff are attentive and food arrives quickly.

Having the staff dressed in blue denim is a bit of a China/Malaysia atmosphere let down....food quite pricey, decor didn't really 'take us to Asia'. Found our table a little too closely placed to neighbouring diners so was hard to have an intimate conversation. We're probably not interested in a return visit.

Excellent Malaysian restaurant. Great loaction in CBD of Hamilton. Good if you like Malaysian food. Roti canoli with gravy is awesome. Very minimal option for vegetarian. Been here many times since opening, often for birthdays as this visit was. Very quiet this time. Food okay but not great value and the menu has become a little tired. On this occasion the wait staff seemed really disinterested and unengaged, although quiet it took some time to get service and our waitress couldn't look more bored if she tried. They used to do a little something for a birthday, on arrival when we mentioned to the Matre De it was our sons birthday it wasn't acknowledged at all. When paying we had been asked by the same Matre de if all was well, we politely pointed out our experience however our comment was quickly brushed off as she was more keen to seat another group. It's a shame, it used to be great however it's unlikely we will return, especially as Hamilton has so many terrific alternatives.

This review was once 5star but I had to change it to 1, but while waiting and writing this review we were offered a drink on the house because of the wait (un-prompted), so that professionalism and though the mains being a long wait, ended up being nicely made (Rendang, Pork Belly & Laksa) brought it back to 3stars. I suggest they ditch Uber, they seem frazzled supplying that market, or setup a Hawker Roll subsidery. Will update this on next visit. It's either they read this review while in the restaurant or they knew they were under the pump, either way, they put their hand up (un-prompted) have to respect that; have to change this review again and make it 4star.
