My partner and I had an awesome time at Portofino. The staff were very helpful and polite. The night was quite busy but we didn't wait long before we were served. The food that we got were all delicious with very generous portion sizing. Overall dining experience was great. Worth every penny.

A lovely quiet atmosphere. Efficient, prompt, attentive and helpful staff. Loved the grilled chicken parmagiana served with veges. So often it is fried and being grilled was a little bit healthier. Great location on the main street. 👍✨

The seasonal veggies is a dissatisfied side to the menu. We order the veal, and although the veal was good, the sides definitely need work. The pastas are great and should be the go to for food this restaurant.

Came here for dinner for two. Had a couple of drinks and antipasto to start. Selection of meats, vegetables olives and cheese, was nice but felt was a little basic. I had gnocchi carbonara and friend had eye fillet steak and verges. The eye fillet was great and well cooked, my gnocchi was very nice and tasty, only negative was felt it was a little too ‘cheesy’ sauce. Nice atmosphere and staff were friendly and attentive. The only thing that met it down was the toilets, they were at the back of the building and shared with another restaurant and not overly clean.

We took our 7 yr old daughter and had a lovely meal. They had the perfect kids menu. I have been several times and enjoy it immensely. The only disappointment is the profiteroles...they're not fresh. However the tiramisu is fantastic!!

Last time I was here was about 5 years ago and it was amazing, I never forgot the profiteroles. First time back since then, profiteroles were hard and dry (defrosted??), and the cannelloni was a bit mushy (seemed like more than ricotta and spinach...pumpkin?).

If you're looking for a good Italian restaurant then Portofino will not disappoint. With a good selection of wine and a menu to match, its pretty hard to fault. Highly respectful and very attentive staff make the dinning experience very enjoyable. The price reflects the quality and the quality is high. Still one of my favorite restaurants in Hamilton.

Wow, great service from experienced friendly staff and delicious food. They even put parmesan on each of the tables in use. This is unlike the Portofino in Gisborne where the manager informed me I would have to pay extra for parmesan when I asked if I could have some for my chicken cacciatore. He said it's too expensive to provide other than for a few specific meals. So well done Hamilton Portofino and shame on Gisborne Portofino.

Ricky is always an amazing host - from his friendly and welcoming nature, to his ability to remember what I ordered last time I visited (often 6+ months). The kitchen has never sent us a dish we didn't love, and they not only cope with special dietary requirements, but do so with custom off-menu meals that taste superb! Every time I've dined here I've always left feeling like it was the best dining experience yet.

Seating was at a table situated near windows overlooking the nearby golf course - all very nice. Now, the food. This is where Portofino shines. The French Onion soup is an absolute must. It smells and tastes fantastic without the greasy sensation some lower quality soups leave. The chicken crepes were excellent, a light option that truly lives up to its name.

Everyone left very happy. Fresh and fast. At the time we didn't know this was a chain. Veggie burger with fresh avocado was divine. Possibly garlic powder in one if there special sauces which was a negative. Gluten free buns available. Quick and friendly service if you are in a rush.

Portofino, is a nostalgic name. I had memories with this song. But anyway, I chose this place for an special occasion. The interior design was very good. Staff were very polite, but every few minutes they came and filled our glass or checked if we needed anything. This bothered us during our conversation. And was somehow frustrating. The food was very good, I ordered lasagna, and my friend ordered spagetti bolognese, which both of them tasted good. The worst thing is the toilet, which I do not recommend to use, and it was terrible. This is a very negative point for such a good restaurant.

This was a very enjoyable dining experience. The waiter was knowledgeable and had a flair that really stood out. The glasses of water were topped off around the table without any prompting and the meals were delicious and exactly what I had hoped for. Really recommend this restaurant if you're after a good meal.

Parking is a little hard but that's Vic st/CBDfor ya. Booking recommended. Lots of lovely booth seats and they can shuffle seating for very large groups (20 approx people)

Always have felt welcome by the staff. Have tried few of their Pastas, me and my friends love their Salmon one and their Mussel one (sorry don't remember the name). Their wine suggestions are always on point, goes perfectly with the dish ordered. True Italian feels :)

We had been to the Gisborne branch of portofino just days ago and were surprised that the food at Hamilton branch was a lot better than at Gisborne. The veal Marsala was really good at gisborne but hamiltons version was just better. The plain but super tasty potato and broccoli were perfect and a hidden carrot and 3 green beans was. Perfect. The sauce took first prize. Great. The profiteroles at Gisborne had only a tiny bit of custard in them and were dry because if it. Hamilton’s version was delicious - great choux pastry, lovely custard and cream and a perfect chocolate sauce. My panne cota was lighter, less sweet and with real raspberry on top rather than sauce. So much better.

Portofino is more like a modern Italian restaurant. The garlic bread was like a pizza base (not lovely thick bread with butter) the lasagne was salty sadly. The service was fabulous, we were there for a 50th and they looked after us well. The bathroom was like going on an adventure to Mordor, out the door, down a hall, right into another building left over a bridge, I totally expected trolls or Orcs to attack me... Over all it was OK. But my expectations was Italian! No Italian motif, very black n white...

The only downside was, my friend ordered a marinara and it had frozen cooked prawns in it and they forgot to put 3 of the seafoods in her pasta. Hey my first time I was looking for a dinner out where you could talk and enjoy a possible romantic setting where you could be in your own little world ...dinner which was a fabulous meal I might add none of that having to order vegs as a side! the staff amazing lovely waitress who looked after us or left us as appropriate and at end of evening another waiter let us hve a liquor outside even though they had officially closed they went the xtra mile to make our evening memorable and cost was very affordable we shared an amazing dessert which they were very generous wth setting cosy I wish I had taken photos but was so carried away wth the best experience ever Would I go back ? thats a yes will you love it thats a big yes! Hi there. My two friends came down from Auckland last night to the Foreigner concert at Claudlands and called in for dinner. Whow!! What an experience. The staff were exceptional the service amazing. Would recommend the place to all my friends. The staff went out of their way to make sue us 'oldies' were looked after and the nepalense chap was absolutely outstanding. Outstanding food and great pricing! My go to winning meal is the tortellini - you can't go wrong with it! We have been to Portofino a few times now, with a large group and a couple of times my wife and myself. Each time we are so l pleasantly greeted and a particular staff member Dish remembers us, and comes to check in and catch up when he gets a chance. Such great service and you feel exceptionally valued. We will continue to make this a go to spot for us!
