Reviews of The Store
D.
Gorgeous cafe/restaurant in a stunning setting. The gardens were amazing as was the picturesque views. Incredible fireplace and ambience. Would love to have gone there at night or on a cold day. Friendly staff, great hot coffees and giant cheese scones. I loved the building and the outdoor furniture and their veggie garden. Also found out they have a lovely campground right on the beach with fabulous shower and toilet facilities. Will definitely be back to camp there sometime. Awesome venue!
J.
Amazing place north of Kaikoura! The design of the place is beautiful, and the touches inside make it a really cosy place. Stunning views and leads on to lovely walk on the beach. It was raining when we went and they had they had the fire going as well as candles dotted about.
Had cake and coffee, coffee was really good!! Looking at other people's cooked food it did look very good.
Neat little store as well with some cool homely stuff.
Definitely place to stop off at!!!
D.
Great venue, wonderful sea views. However when I stopped for lunch yesterday, the choice of cabinet food was limited and it was very expensive. Also the toilets were pretty grim as well. This place has so much unrealized potential. Fortunately the staff were great, friendly and full of good humor, well done guys.
T.
Love the location. Cool interior, awesome outside area and trees that make awesome smelling fruits. Btw. the food is very good too.
f.
Omg best eggs bene in an age!! Moderate price which is refreshing!!
I very rarely photograph my food but I made an exception.
Helpful and extremely friendly staff. We were advised pricing for the camp ground too.
Well done would i return hell yeah!!!
d.
Well worth a stop for drinks and food. Good range of food at the deli counter and hot and cold drinks. Fresh ground coffee too. Beautiful view of the coast line from the well kept gardens
L.
Lovely place Indoor and outdoor seating areas
Lovely garden
Great food Coffee not so great
Worth the stop over
S.
Lovely place, worth stopping for the views alone. The staff are always pleasant and able to offer advice for travel times and things to do in the area.
Food looks great but isn't always as flavorful as it looks, however a cup of tea or coffee always goes down great.
About an hour from Blenheim, , an hour and a half from Picton, and an hour from Kaikoura.
J.
Good coffee stop on SH1. Wide range of products and wines on sale. Good cafe / restaurant.
N.
Great venue with great views but limited cabinet food. Slices were not that great, we got the leftovers of a busy day. Staff were friendly.
The closed sign was up at 3.30pm sharp which was disappointing for the heaps of people coming past who wanted an afternoon snack and drink but were turned away. Come on team this is the holiday season, there's a constant stream of people coming by wanting to stop, times are hard surely you can open for an extra hour during this period.
M.
With memories of the Kekerengu Store dating back 40 years, I was not quite sure what to expect. The days of Raspberry Square and Filter Coffee have been pleasantly replaced with muffins, gluten free food and espresso coffee. A really nice place to stop, the exterior seating was the highlight, and if it were not for the call of the road, I could have stayed much longer. Minus one star for bitter coffee. Good coffee does not need sugar. It the coffee does here.
C.
Love this place! Always worth a stop. Excellent coffee! Welcoming ambience. Exploring the outdoor area as well as a stroll on the beach is refreshing.
D.
The table was dirty, we had to ask for it to be wiped down. There were dirty coffee cups around the water fountain.
The wedges we're hot and crisp; a bit salty for my taste. Coffee was bitter, therefore burnt, the water needs to be turned down. The salad was pretty good, some feta would probably go well as an extra.
However, the staff were friendly and helpful.
Not major issues, I would dine here again.
J.
Nice camp/cafe, had lunch there then stayed the night, fab showers and toilets and fantastic view of the Pacific Ocean but would not want to be there in bad weather, I guess nowhere is good in bad weather 😀
D.
Wonderful place to stop for time out. Fantastic outdoor area and lovely character building. Great food.
S.
No hassle about vax passes to stay in campsite. Lovely restaurant, very rustic with gorgeous sea views off the deck. We didn't actually stop to eat, but stayed at the camp sites in our campervan. The sites are large and well laid out, with fantastic bathrooms and paid showers.
j.
Good place to havd a break on trip north or south nice food and coffee ☕️ friendly staff
L.
One of the best places to stop for coffee or cold drinks. Very large indoor and outdoor area with many tables and chairs with access to the beach. The location of the shop is very beautiful. A special place where you can take a memorable photos. Toilets available for customers. Wheelchairs are welcome too.
K.
This place must have some of the best views a restaurant can have and everything else was really good, staff were happy and friendly, coffee was really good. Food was really nice but I would love it if they have had given me some aioli with my chips aswell 😂
A.
The Store has one of the most scenic outlooks in the country. Huge lawn areas (And now camping sites $12 pp) great outdoor decks with lots of seating. Stopped for brunch and coffee. Eggs Florentine with lots of salmon very good indeed. Took a custard square and carrot cake away for later to prolong the experience ;)
I.
Nice place for a break and refreshments
D.
Great place, pity the kitchen was already closed but the pie I had was awesome. The views are amazing. Keen to go back to see how the menu items taste
J.
Great to have such a nice place to stop on Highway One.
A joy of good food shade and great views.
Nice toilets and a real chance to stretch your legs in the surrounds of the Store Building.
The sea is wild and not really for swiming.
A chance to see seals and great decor tips in the cafe/ restaurant.
Service is quick and vegetable and herbs are grown on site.
Do not drive past unless you ate here last week.
A.
A nice place to stop and admire the view over a long coffee or light lunch. The views and atmosphere are probably better than the food, but a good range of cabinet food, home grown food a lot of the time, large servings of most things on the menu, and warm fire mean it's a nice stop.
J.
A lovely spot to stop and it was good to find it open. The coffee was not hot enough but the food was good.
J.
Coffee n cake was nice we stayed over night in the rustic setting n went to sleep watching a beautiful sunset n woke to another glorious day on the beach never seen so many lovely smooth rocks and white.. good facilities shower toilet n laundry
C.
Beautiful food, place and environment. The coffees, fish and chips (gf), salmon filo, eggs florentine, sausage roll, mince pie were all delicious and only $80 total for a big lunch for our family. Cricket gear, kubb, swings all lots of fun. Totally delightful experience.
T.
The Store has been recommended by our friend. Glad we stopped there on the way to Kaikoura. Absolutely amazing place
A.
Always a pleasure to stop in at The Store at Kekerengu. The food is as good as you'll find anywhere, and the barista knows how to make a decent coffee. The setting is stunning and the welcome is warm and genuine. Whether you're day-tripping or en route north or south it's well worth stopping in at.
P.
A great place by the sea, halfway between Blenheim and Kaikoura. Clean with good selection of food and magnificent views. Highly recommended.
R.
What an amazing place! Quite an oasis on the highway. Lovely service and food.
S.
Best place to stop for lunch or a snack. Big inside area with cool swing chairs. You can walk to the beach and vegetable garden. Good place to stretch your legs. Friendly staff.
H.
Stopped by on our way from Kaikoura. Beautiful dining area with tables inside or outside in the courtyard. We had the most amazing Marlborough Mussels in a chilli and garlic soup and a steak sandwich which was unbelievably good! Make plans to visit, you will not be disappointed.
L.
Stopped here for a coffee. Couldn't resist the look of the carrot cake. It was delicious. Good friendly service, lovely relaxed place.
j.
We happened onto this place while looking for a toilet stop on the way north. It's a nice setting with good views of the sea. In the end we stayed for lunch and had an enjoyable meal break.
M.
Great place for rest and grab some lunch. Food was good.clean.cofffe was great
B.
The store is a lovely place to have a meal or a snack. Loved their chips. Lots of outside seating to view the sea or be in a quiet space. The young men were very attentive and the place was humming while we were there. we will be back.
B.
They didn't have all the options on the menu available which was disappointing.
I ended up getting gluten free toast with eggs but they didn't bring out gluten free toast so they had to make it all over again. One egg was overcooked and the other was fine - very strange.
The views and the location is great but wouldn't get food from the menu again.
S.
Lovely setting great open fire fine pies and coffee. Like it s lot . Well worth a stop off good parking
D.
Enjoyed our stop here. Very picturesque. Lovely food and coffee. Friendly staff.
T.
Lovely spot to stay a few days. Very cheap and NZMCA discount. Great shower, good toilets and 1 washing machine and dryer. Fresh water though no dump station. Good coffee too.
T.
Yes When I was with Anniversary, She took me to Breakfast with her Friends in Bleamham. Very nice it was. Thank you Anniversary. " Big Sister."
D.
A great place to stop on the Kaikoura Highway . View from the restraurant is amazing .
The coffee and food is fantastic , heads up to a brillant chef
M.
Stopped on the way down to Kaikouru from Nelson. There are few stops down this coastal stretch and this was welcome.Food and Coffee are ok and there is access to the beach. Somebody there was preparing for November 5th.
J.
Lovely stop over with kids. Can get a good meal, relax outside and the views are amazing.
S.
Yummy Brunch.Lovely setting.Checked put the camping ground.Looks amazing.Put in on the bucket list for next year
A.
Beautiful spot, great service and delicious coffee and food. Will definitely be back
S.
Would of loved to have stayed for lunch looked amazing and very popular but way to busy and long wait for food so left . Will return hopefully not so busy
J.
Love the atmosphere and great food. Along with fabulous views of the ocean.
C.
We enjoyed the beach and the garden but weren't impressed by the coffee and food we ordered. Still a good place to stop and stretch your legs - but order something that isn't out of the cabinet 😊
E.
Worth the stop! Our Airbnb host mentioned this cafe. So glad he did as it was a great pitstop for our journey south. Amazingly fresh salmon bagel and coffee. The sea is literally metres away. Friendly staff and clean cafe, very hospitable.
J.
FANTASTIC we've stopped here a few times previously. Food here today was fantastic. Amazing chips, delicious ham and cheese croissant and excellent salmon/cheese filo. Coffee was great and view as usual was spectacular. Stop in to The Store if you are passing by. Just a lovely place and very vey much improved fare.
A.
Great food and service was great considering they were very busy 🙂
s.
Always a great place for a stop and refuel the body good food friendly hellful staff
G.
Superb food and coffee - lovely service, beautiful location. Great spot to take a break from travelling. Lovely fire going in Autumn when I visited. Terrific views and outdoor spaces to sit and enjoy. Room for tents. Caravans and camper vans. People and animal friendly.
C.
This is such an interesting place. A feast for the eyes. Lovely outdoor area with play equipment for the kids.
G.
A jem of a place very good food very pleasant staff and a great camping ground
J.
Beautiful little hidden gem. Nice garden and cute wee shop with nice food and coffee.
G.

J.
Wonderful spot for a break. Accommodating and friendly staff. Lovely view.
J.
Beautiful food, great service lovely setting and stunning views.
C.
Good coffee. Great access to the beach for a nice stroll after some feed.
B.
5 stare location, 3 star food. Let down by cold hot drinks and average food. Previous visits have been better.
K.
Stopped for a coffee, felt like I had stepped into a classy retreat. One of my new favorite places!
C.
Great staff excellent service awesome food
A.
Great stop on the way to Christchurch from Nelson, a trip we do regularly, great food, service and location.
N.
This review is for campground not The Store which had a good array of food.
Effort has been made to start laying out campground. Right on beach, complete with the odd seal or two. Shower and toilet container block simple but fine. The main disadvantage was the train track which runs very close....not many trains fortunately, but those that did were scarily loud!
W.
Yummy Carrot cake which is the best I've tried to date, and delicious food too. Plus the service was very warming and professional 🙂.
M.
A great place to stop by between Kaikoura and Blenheim. Very friendly staff and yum homemade deliciousness. Try the carrotcake! You can sit inside or in the garden. Walk down to the veggies garden and to the ocean. A great environment to stretch your legs and relax. Kids will love it here too!
P.
Good coffee, friendly staff, would stop there again
M.
Great food. Great staff!! And doggo friendly🐕👍.
e.
Brilliant coffee, cheery staff and wonderful food. If you are close you must stop.
T.
Incredible scenery and the food and coffee were delicious!
If you turn left in the carpark you can enter a camping area run by The Store. We have stayed here 3 times because the facilities are all new and there are so many great sites to park in. You are guaranteed amazing views. Every time we have stayed we woke to watch dolphins jumping in the bay less than 100m away and the stars are so bright completely covering the sky there. Camp area was only $12/night per person, showers $2, washer $4, dryer $4.
O.
I arrived hot and tired just as they were cleaning up at the end of the afternoon. A ridiculously charming human made a ridiculously great tasting coffee while the lovely and very tollerant lady sweeping up said lovely things to me. I like welcoming places. I want to go back and live there. (well maybe for a few days anyway.)
N.
Beautiful garden. I bought burger meal. It is nice. Traditional kiwi burger
V.
We loved this place and I'm so glad my daughter needed a break from the car when we passed here. What a jewel. We like the gardens and setting. The service at the till was very slow and the system there can be improved, but everything else made up for that! I WILL stop here again.
J.
Fabulous icecream stop on a hot day. Great service and great coffee.
C.
What a fabulous welcome to Kaikoura. We drove past but did a u-turrn and sooooo glad we did. It was like arriving at a 5 star Island Resort with a gorgeous view to the sea. The staff were wonderful and food top notch. The Store is an absolute asset to Kaikoura.. Don't drive past!
R.
Great place to stop and have a coffee, Great views
T.
Great Reststop between Picton and Christchurch... good Coffee friendly staff and great spot to stretch the legs
T.
Not that great with food allergies though too be fair it wasn't a big meal I was aiming for. Friendly staff, beautiful location, nice range of products & great coffee.
D.
Very nice place to stop! Amazing views and gardens. Visited at the end of the day, but still had a lovely look through.
L.
We have been served by a lovely French girl. Service was perfect. The food was very good (cappuccino, salmon quiche, muffin). The place is amazing!! A stop to do on your way between Blenheim and Kaikoura!!
H.
Delicious mocha and Hot chocolate along with a tasty sausage roll which was big enough to feed both of us. Very reasonably priced with friendly helpful staff. We will be back.
M.
Why I knew this cafeteria just now
So beautiful place I never been
Fantastic ocwan view and wonderful interior
You should been here
V.
Stunning views and location. Had a takeaway coffee which was fine.
The bathroom was in need of a clean.
O.
Great place to stop. Just had coffee which was great
P.
Great location with good seating indoors and out. Limited food selection and a little bit over priced.
T.
Have popped into The Store for many years especially when heading south. Great food selection and excellent coffee. Always enjoy sitting outside and walking down to the beach below.
D.
Superb cafe with terrific cabinet food and good coffee. Lovely inside with attentive staff. Unfortunately the toilets were a bit neglected when I was there - no soap at the sinks or paper towels - perhaps the staff were too busy in the cafe to check on them. However it is perfect midway stop when travelling from Picton to Kaikoura.
C.
Stunning space and views, absolutely loved the veggie gardens even though nothing has come in yet. It's a very relaxing space. The food was okay, nothing particularly special but not offensive either. Well with a visit.
R.
Great coffee, great cabinet food, very friendly service. But they absolutely MUST organise to have someone serving/taking orders at the counter and another person doing coffees at the same time or the long queue will turn drop-in travellers off.
T.
A wonderful stopover with beautiful views. Very good food and very clean.
S.
The food is so absolutely delicious. They even make their own instore jam, it's amazing. The view from your table wow , you can have a meal then walk along the beach . It's just fantastic.
M.
Staff were polite, but a few errors in delivering orders, saw that there were multiple errors with coffee orders.. On the whole, a lovely setting for a Sunday lunch or cuppa.
C.
A must stop for us everything we go south to northwest ambiance and food highly recommended
P.
Love this place after a drive from north or south. Good coffee and food selection. Service great on last visit, but was not so good previously. Will be back.
B.
Never went in store.. but beach is a lovely wild beach.
A POP available for campervans. Looks great.
N.
Welcome break in a great location. Good, strong coffee. Chilly wet day (7) and only 1 smoking log on the fire - brrr!
J.
Cozy place. Nice staff. Good food. Stunning view. Recommend.
B.
Enjoyed a scrumptious lunch with excellent coffee. Great outlook
m.
Nice experience, good service and loverly staff, great food
C.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Awesome caring staff
R.
Stayed down in the camp area. Had a lovely two day stay. Beautiful weather. Lovely spot for a break away to recharge.
R.
Beautiful and tasty toasted sandwich. The staff were very nice and helpful
S.
My husband and I stopped to camp a night at the Store and loved it! The restaurant is spectacular and the team there are brilliant, so friendly! The views are breathtaking highly recommended.
K.
Amazing place to stop for lunch/coffee!!!
S.
Amazing view for coffee stop..very friendly staff
B.
Excellent food, great scenery and a fantastic place to break the journey. Service was a bit slow at lunchtime as they were short on staff, but the view and gardens made up for the waiting time
k.
Early start from CHCH targeted the Store for late brunch. Eggs Benedict was sad. Limp spinach smothered the buns, burnt bacon like wood and bland Hollandaise sauce drizzled sparingly over tiny eggs. The sauce is supposed to be the main event - it wasn't. Coffee was welcome and the view is always great but won't be doing breakie there again.
a.
Fantastic views with great food
M.
Was so happy to find such a beautiful place to stop on the drive down to Kaikoura, and was really thankful to find a delicious roll of licorice for purchase to help settle my stomach on the drive. Breakfast was nice, bathroom facilities were clean. The space looked like it was being set up for a wedding too - what a dreamy place!
K.
I was pleasantly surprised at this hidden gem. Beautiful outdoor area. Nice friendly staff. Definitely was worth the random stop in on the way down the Kaikoura Coast.
G.
Great half-way place to meet friends from nelson when you are from Christchurch. Delightful dining outside in a shady spot on a hot sunny day, served by friendly engaging staff!
V.
Fab food and location. Great service.
M.
Amazing food, coffee and exploration to keep our little road trippers busy.
Great spot to stop and refuel food and coffee reserves, stretch legs and have a toilet break 👍
T.
Always a pleasure to drop in for coffee and a snack while passing by in the morning. The food, the location, the ambiance, the staff, all brilliant. The only let down is the cleanliness of the men's toilet but that may well just be the number of people who use it with all the road works going on.
m.
Wonderful staff. Good food. Fast service and a great location. The accessibility bathrooms are not wheel chair suitable. Lots of parking and i great walk down to the big grass area and out to the beach.
G.
Great location and food. Coffee not hot tho. The garden is a good spot to enjoy your morning tea
P.
Nice place to stop for a coffee. Great out door seating in the sun and beach access to stretch legs before continuing your trip.
Staff are friendly didn't seem to offer table service had to wait for coffee before sitting down
k.
Fantastic location. Expensive - $9.00 for a pie, $7.50 for a sausage roll and $8.00 for a vanilla slice. Would not provide tap water, had to buy a bottle. Would recommend squid salad and hamburger.
G.
Good halfway house between Blenheim and Christchurch. Lovely building and outdoor area. Can be a bit pricey though but great kai/food and coffee.
L.
A must stop for lunch, breakfast or coffee if travelling between Kaikoura and Blenheim. Always great friendly service. Lots of vegetarian options. Cabinet food is always fresh and delicious and the cakes and slice sizes are always generous. Beautiful views too!
D.
Such a shame it's up for sale as it has an awesome atmosphere, the food was yummy and the people so nice!! Wishing them all the best 😊
L.
This place is awesome! We'd only stopped to go to the toilet originally (there are public toilets onsite), but after dealing with that we were drawn in to the cosy cafe, and stayed for a drink and a snack. The food was delicious, the coffee great, but it was the outlook and atmosphere that stole the show. It's in such a gorgeous spot overlooking the sea, and I can imagine it being an amazing, relaxed venue for a celebration like a wedding. We explored the grounds after eating, and they're delightful. A wonderfully unexpected stop on our holiday.
H.
Had some pies and coffee. Great spacious cafe with an awesome location!
v.
Lovely views of the sea. Toilets were lovely and clean. The food looked lovely. The store was packed.
D.
Lovely view with some delicious meals
C.
The best hot chips ever, beautiful scones, a must stop when passing by we will return on our next visit 😀
D.
Awesome spot right on the beach. Lots of private areas to camp. Were staying for one night but ended up staying for three. Had coffee & cake at the cafe. Highly recommend and we'll return.
A.
Best savoury scone I have had for a long time. Fabulous quick service from a very friendly barista. Well worth the stop.
R.
Great food lovely place
S.
Right on beach, 2showers $4, no personal washing except in toilet hand sink, no kitchen, clothes wash $4 no lines, drying $4 . Between sea and railway right next to site road and busy road. Restaurant looked nice. Cheapish but end up paying same as good site. Disappointed
B.
Great camping with restaurant nearby
J.
Great spot on the coast. Fab views and good food.
K.
This is always a Must-stop spot on our travels. Delicious food, spectacular environment and friendly staff. It now has a camping site next door which has idyllic views.
K.
The Store has just reopened after a year closed while earthquake repairs were being done on SH1. At the moment it provides all good and drink including a limited number of menu items as takeaways (paper bags, cardboard cups etc), although you are welcome to consume them in the cafe.
The food provided was just as I remember, of good quality and quantity.
Looking forward to full service returning.
I.
Destination dining on our way up the East Coast to Blenheim. We had been given a tip from an iSite that The Store was worth waiting for. It was. Great food, great service and a fantastic view from our well protected, on a cold day, inside table not far from an open fire.
A.
The Kekerangu Store for us has always been a wonderful lunch stop. We love its magical rustic setting by the wild and wonderful beach and coast line. Today we enjoyed a lovely soup with home made bread and sat by the warm open fire.
J.
Nice location with a great view. Coffee on the other hand is just so so.
I.
Very overpriced, which I guess it's because of its relative isolation. Food was fine, I was just unhappy about forking out so much for so little. Wasn't horrible food, so if you didn't think ahead to bring food with you on your long drive, you could do worse than to stop here and eat
J.
Loved it! Beautiful Place with a sun Terrace and a Beautiful garden overlooking the ocean. Great coffe und tasty blueberry muffins. Some neat NZ products to purchase.
Thank you!
D.
Stopped here for lunch. It is a wonderful location with a warm, sheltered and sunny courtyard with great beach views. Service was prompt and efficient. I had the Salmon Filo that was excellent. Crisp pastry and a soft tasty filling with real salmon not yuckky canned stuff. The fries I also ordered were hot and crispy. Sharron had the Rosti and Egg that was also lovely; the egg was huge and perfectly poached. My chai latte was hot and spicy and Sharron's flat black strong and hot. We'll be back!
J.
Used to be famous for their seafood chowder but this was disappointing. Bland. Fish of the day was fresh and a good size but the side salad was lump, wilted and even slimy. Coffee totally undrinkable!!
M.
Wonderful restaurant with an amazing view, really good food, fair prices, wonderful terrace and two steps from the beautiful beach. Perfect for a lunch break, a little walk or a moment to relax. Also a little play-area for children. Will be back!
B.
Great location with ocean views. There is an outside area shielded from the ocean winds. Interior is well thought out and decorated. First stop from Blenheim. Good coffee and happy service.
J.
What a lovely find. Lovely gluten free fish and chips. Cheerful service. Good selection of counter food and menu items. Ample parking. Worth the extra hour rather than stopping in Kaikoura.
S.
Great place for a visit and tasty food
T.
A great place to stop... but a hard place to leave, unless you aren't the driver
J.
Good good and coffee options. Nice ambiance. But the service was so slow. Got to sort out order taking
G.
Good for a feed and helpful staff
C.
Great coffee
V.
Great food and quick friendly service. Beautiful views and rustic ambience.
T.
Loved it! Always stop when passing. Such a cool building and scenic spot. Great food, too!
T.
Wow this place is amazing we tryed the bacon n egg pie with relish and wow wat amazing flavours. The ladies were very polite and the view of the sea was awsome. I reccomend this place to anyone and everyone. Toilets were very clean to.
C.
Great food and large selection very friendly staff plenty of parking don't go past
M.
Great food and view
R.
Food lovely, staff pleasant, but wonderful venue looking decidedly dirty and tired.
L.
Spacious cafe with a beautiful ocean view and very pleasant outside sitting area. Not a huge selection of meals but good enough for a lunch break.
Excellent design for a vegetable garden.
C.
Great spot to break the short trip between Blenheim and Kaikoura. Great food and service, friendly staff. Amenities clean and tidy.
R.
This has been one of the best "random-stop-because-I-need-coffee" stops in my entire life. You enter The Store expecting your average roadside café and you find yourself right in front of the ocean, surrounded by great food, excellent coffee and a priceless atmosphere. We ordered flat whites and had them in their terrace, staring at the breathtaking view. And then we had to leave, unfortunately.
p.
Lovely stop for lunch or cafe..
L.
The setting is amazing , a great place to stop along the Kaikoura Coastline. Its not the first time here and it can be great or disappointing . The croissant that i asked for toasted arrived flat like it had been put in a toastie machine. Instead of toasting it in a oven to make the pastry nice and crunchy to enjoy and to be able see the contents, it was chewy and contents squashed and mushy . The other meal was squid rings with salad, a basic salad with greens out of a bag with sliced red onion, not very tasty or exciting for the price. When the young woman arrived to collect the plates i was going to tell her but there was no conversation , i was waiting for a how was your meals which would be a great opportunity to give feedback to the kitchen .
K.
Fantastic place that's well worth a stop. Meals were delicious and staff were very friendly and helpful. Also, a lovely rustic building.
Y.
We stopped here on Tourism Radio's recommendation.
This place is both over hyped and nice at the same time.
It nothing much to do here, is a cafe with some great views.
We stopped here while on a long drive to Kaikoura after lunch, so we've only had the coffee; and it was rather good.
While enjoying the lovely beach in front of us, we've also enjoyed the free and unlimited WiFi, an amazing and rate thing in New Zealand.
Don't know what everybody says about the toilets, they seems clean
B.
This is a cafe in a fantastic location with a great view. Can be a little busy but the food and service are both good. It's around an hour from any other cafe or eatery.
P.
Beautiful food lovely service but you need to seriously do something about those stairs going to the beach. I slipped on them and the only thing to grab onto was the shrubbery. Dangerous I'm afraid.
P.
Service was slow due to till issues and there was no sandwiches or rolls so we moved on. However in the past we have enjoyed a tasty cooked meal. Still a good place to eat.
D.
A great stop along the way. Yummy treats and fabulous views.
F.
Relaxing. Calming. Beautiful environment. Pleasant staff coping in a very busy time. Natural materials used punctuated by natives.
L.
No question about the stunning location and views from this cafe. But the food options are very limited (starchy, stodgy and over priced). Coffee good, thank goodness
P.
A super place to stop on a long journey to get refreshed and stretch legs. Great coffee and snacks. Yummy scones. Glad we found it!
s.
what an amazing spot to stop off on the drive down the coast. Amazing sea views and excellent service.
P.
An amazing oasis. The work done on this place since the Kaikoura earthquake is a credit to the owners. Make it a must to stop in here for some great food or a refreshing beverage on your way along SH1. Huge outdoor area, chilled surrounds with bean bags etc.
L.
Great food and view
R.

Nice place at the beach. Good food. They grow their own herbs and vegetables wich they use in their kitchen. Perfect stop for a lunch!

Ok. I seem to do a lot of 5 star reviews but only because we go to nice places...... This is one of those..
Seriously if it wasn't for the hours from our home we would go every week. But driving from North to Kaikoura then it's a stop you must make.
The soup and chowder and sandwiches and coffee etc etc were superb. Seriously.
Have lunch then walk down to the stoney beach for a stroll....
Love this place.
S.
Fabulous decor, delicious fire.
A.
Great breakfast on the ocean with lovely seating
R.
Excellent as ever however they need more staff as those serving at the counter have to clear the tables too and if they are busy serving the tables get left.
A.
Beautiful location, nice food. Little slow serving us. The beach side location and outdoor seating really is superb. Asks has a great fireplace.
M.

We were on a trip from Kaikoura to Picton around 10th December ... We thought we would stop for a cup of tea but didn't expect the awesome view and the magnificent garden. Also they had very good wifi so took some pictures and uploaded them on Facebook. Tea on the terrace with a lovely view and it was a beautiful day. Didn't want to leave. Stop here you won't be disappointed!
