If you like Indian, you will love Maharajas. Fresh and yummy, great breads. In business for many years and standard of food and service consistently very good. Have been a repeat customer for over 25 years. One of the best in region.

Good god this was really nice! The entrees we had, onion barji and samosas, were tasty as. My main which was a chicken biryani, was delicious and the chicken was juicy. Service was good and food was delivered in a timely fashion. So glad to have gone here and would definitely recommend it. Keen to go back again.

Maharaja’s has a different menu to other Indian restaurants. It features regional specialities and the food is consistently excellent, with good quality meat and fragrant flavours. The service is usually efficient and friendly but can get confused when busy or when there are large groups in the restaurant.

We've been getting their takeaways for about a year now and have dined in the restaurant before on several occasions. Every single time the food has been fantastic, the service has been impeccable. What prompted us to write this review was that yesterday we had an incident on our way out with a large takeaway order. Our bag split and the contents spilled on the sidewalk. The restaurant staff were wonderful, they helped us clean up and repackaged our food, even recooking some of the dishes, and added complimentary poppadums. I could not recommend Maharajas more.

Atmosphere and service was excellent, however the food was average. Decent sized portions but didn't take me to flavour town like other places such as Gr8tandoori. Tried a few entrees and mains. The heat on the Hot malai kofta wasn't enough to bring a sweat to my partners forehead. I think your average Joe would enjoy this place however :)

Been here a couple of times - always good food and professional service. I find the food okay, hard to differentiate from any other of the ilk, but I enjoy the cozy atmosphere and the professionalism and hospitality of the staff is exemplary. 4 stars for the kai, 5 for the staff.

I've been going to Maharajas for years - the family that owns it are lovely and the food has varied between excellent and fantastic... They import their own spices and chefs (!)... I highly recommend it - good for a cricket discussion too if you are so inclined 😊

Introduced to this lovely Indian Restaurant by friends, who have been here many times. Needless to say it did not disappointed and we had a fantastic meal. We ordered Meat platters for entree and there were flavoursome and extremely tender. Ordered 4 mains which we all shared that were individually wonderful and added up to a superb meal. This restaurant has been in operation for approximately 30 years and hopefully many more, as will definitely visit again.

It's been many years since I've dined here and I'm glad to say as soon as I walked in a nice ambiance, a wonderful Indian cuisine fragrance and a candle lite dinner table. Starters and mains done perfectly and experienced waiting staff. Highly recommend!

I'd been advised about this place by so many different people, everyone telling me how fantastic it was. I finally had the pleasure of going there the other day and I have to agree, it's one of the best curries I've had in a while. I ended up going for the butter chicken (tame I know) which had so much flavour! The naan bread was actually pretty disappointing overall, which was a shame, but the curry more than made up for it. I would DEFINITELY come back here again in future.

This is the best Indian food in Wellington. The menu offers traditional Indian food delivered by fantastic waiters. The restaurant is roomy and has a great atmosphere. We also booked a table for 16 last Christmas. We love this place, its first class.

Have been to this restaurant more than once. Must say, I have been to some Indian restaurants around here in Wellington and this one by far comes close to serving authentic Indian cuisine. Yes of course you need to tell them the level of heat you preferred. Good service, friendly staff and a spacious restaurant which caters to large groups. Always room for improvement..

This is the best Indian food I have tasted in New Zealand and I've been here 25years! We got a takeaway and the food was beautiful, authentic, fresh and the perfect heat (we ordered medium and we got a proper medium which is normally a kiwi hot) ... very highly recommended - we will be back!

5 stars just isnt enough!! Loved this place! 2 mains, entree and a bottle of delicious wine for under $100?!?! Its great value for the budget conscious. And the food? Absolutely Devine! No wonder they're winner of best butter chicken. Hands down best I've had in years. Lovely & warm with good spacing between tables, cute lighting and carpet is good for keeping the noise down. Point to note... the main dining area is mostly windowless... but depending on the atrocious Wellington winter weather, this can be a real bonus!

Best Indian food ever. Awesome. This isn't a fancy place but the people running it are great, they have good drinks selection including non-alcoholic and simply the best dishes. We often just order a selection of starters for sharing and that works well too.

The food here is incredibly delicious. The chicken pakora to start has the most tender chicken I have ever eaten and an amazing amount of spice. The lemon and honey butter chicken was a new experience for me and one I will be having again many many times. We're new to the area and we wanted to find a good curry house and based on everyone else's reviews picked this place and I was not let down. Amazing curries, attentive service and the prices aren't too bad either 😁

Quite impressed with this restaurant. The setting and service are very good. And the food is excellent. Try the very varied Indian breads, each of the choices are quite unique and well done. The manager made good recommendations and we were quite happy with the options. The biryani was good. So was the veg kadai and veg miloni. All in all, a very good experience.

Maharaja is my all time favourite Indian restaurant. The curries have many dimensions to them. The decor is great and the staff amazing. My partner and I keep coming back and back. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

Pretty average tasting curries. Had the korma, vindaloo and tikka masala. Found it bland and very watered down and definitely missing the authentic Indian notes. Seems like the chef made it to cater to the European taste buds, as is the majority demographic of their customers it seems.

This family restaurant has been here for over 25 years. When I first went there it was a cosy little place and the young daughter and son used help out. They still work there now. Its got a great atmosphere and they always serve tasty food.
