The food was divine! Everything we ordered was tasty, but the seafood chowder, in particular, was the best one I've had yet. I cannot recommend the hook chook wing enough for the entrées and the banofee pie for dessert. The wait staff was friendly and very accommodating too! Highly recommended 👏

Everything about this place was very middle of the road. The food was okay, the service reasonable, there is a variety of meals at different price points. Nothing amazing buy a place to get a meal which is probably going to be exactly what you expect.

A Big Thank You to Jan who served us at the hook. Her recommendations were spot on and we had the mussels with coconut and they were so full of flavour with cheesy garlic bread . the lamb shank melted off the bone. Food was amazing!! Jan and her customer service was again on form and why we keep going back so quick with bringing out our food too! Expensive. the pasta dish was very small and the cost was high compared to other dishes. The customer service and table service is not very friendly. In addition, the pasta was pure sauce and if you wanted bread you had to buy it additionally.

Great little bar and grill. The starters were great. Mains awesome and desert completed the meal. I had the onion rings, trio stone grill followed by a delish tiramisu. Staff were great and looked after us. On my list to go back.

Went there for a date night, my partner had been wanting a squid meal for a while and seeing the Hook's "whole stuffed squid" seemed amazing. While they didn't have the squid in stock the day we went, we still tried a selection of dishes. First was a salmon platter, which had an unforgettable mash potato and a refreshing salad. I went for a Malaysian chicken dish that blew my face of with spice, but was a joy to eat. Would recommend a trip there anytime

Food was decent. Very hot and stuffy though. A hot day and no air conditioning. Felt as if we were being rushed to get out too (closing the windows despite the heat) as it was nearing closing time.

I had a great experience at the Hook today when I took my son out for a birthday lunch. The meal was outstanding. Vietnamese muscles for entree & duck confit with trimmings for main. I couldn't have desert was so full. Thank you to our waiter who was very attentive. EXCELLENT

This picture may make you think this is a tasty meal, but all the vegetables besides the asparagus (which is limp and sad) are undercooked with virtually no seasoning, the salmon is a 100g sliver which relies solely on the sauce to give it a passing grade. This place is essentially a discount lonestar except it costs the same and gives you smaller portions.

Went here for a Mother's Day treat with my parents and we very impressed! Amazing service, there was no waiting around and the staff were friendly. Great value for quality food, I had a clam and prawn pasta which was super tasty and I had enough to take away for lunch the next day! Overall enjoyable experience and looking forward to going again sometime.

Great place for steak n veg. Tables nicely spread out. Would be a good idea to put extra staff on. Waited 15 minutes to have our drinks delivered. There were only five other tables occupied and the two wait staff were run off their feet. That would be a future put off for me.

So, I was looking to take my girlfriend out for a cocktail -she had a hard day at work - and I chose The Hook because it had a nice looking exterior. Also, it was around dinner, and I liked how this had seafood and grill options, together with cocktails. Quite a little find! The range of food spanned seafood and meats. I had the ribs, which had ample meat which fell off the bone, and great sauces. My girlfriend had the flounder, which was will seasoned. Four drinks, two mains, one entree, one dessert and about $130 later, we both walked out well fed and satisfied, and having had a lovely time. There's a large choice of well priced, will flavored dishes, with a great range of drinks for her and beer lovers alike. My girlfriend's just read this review and said:"you didn't say anything about the lovely staff!" The staff were very lovely. Give this place a whirl - it's well worth a visit.

First of all, where's the seafood??!! Mussels for Entree were fantastic, made us excited for the mains and dessert to come. The crab ravioli was so fishy, my partner couldn't get the taste out of his mouth even after brushing his teeth. It was definitely not fresh crab and an overall unpleasant dish to eat. I ordered the ribs which were just way too salty and the chips were very average. Slaw was fine however there was a hair found in it. Our deconstructed Banoffee dessert came in a jar (a little sketchy to be honest). The taste was okay but the dessert would've been just that much better served on a plate so we can actually see what we are tasting. The service was good however the overall experience was uncomfortable with the staff putting everyone in one corner so close together. I get that this strategy makes it look busy from the streets but it makes our dining experience not enjoyable at all. A few improvements to be made.

Meal sizes were generous and food tasted good, but the kids meals came out so much earlier than the adults that the kids, were all done before our mains arrived making it a very long, boring and tiring night for them. Came here for date night this week. Asked for a private table specifically when booking was made, offered one in an awkward nook literally 2 feet away from a table of four. Requested for a different table and was told we were free to choose any table out back. We didn’t really mind doing this, but maybe check the notes on bookings made online? Customers would love you for it, and sometimes people put allergies they might have there as well, which is extremely important. Service was lukewarm, people seemed tired. We asked for the jalapeño poppers and fries as sides, arrived as entrees. The stuffed squid was nice, flounder was good as well however a bit expensive for what you get. The pork trio however, was not satisfying at all. The pork belly tasted a -bit- too strongly of five spice, but had a nice crackle and a good portion of fat in it. The pork fillet, in direct contradiction to what it said on the menu, was tough and hard to eat. I couldn’t finish all of it, and I love pork! The jus did not complement the dish at all. The slaw was bitter and lacked taste. The veggies did not play into the strengths of the dish (2 steamed carrots and 2 broccolis). Weirdly enough, I enjoyed the pancetta the most. The feijoa jam was good. I truly want to give this place another chance, because it wasn’t terrible. I hope this review is viewed as constructive criticism more than anything else as I would love to see this place flourish.

Got dinner here with the girlfriends fam and I got the medium rare 220gram aged Angus beef fillet and it was outstanding, best steak I've ever had in wellington. Excellent job guys👌

Service was great and really quick. The vietnamese Muscles were perfect, the nutty catch was just average because the fish wasn't fresh it had been frozen. The coleslaw was quite dull and the date pudding was below average but the cheesecake wasn't too bad. I didn't like how they shoved everyone in the corner of the restaurant, sometimes people like to be spread out instead of so close to one another.

The place is nice the food is ok but way to expensive . In the salad I found a big baboo pick I almost chocked on . The ribs were inconsistent warm/cold. The slaw was disgusting. The prices I would say are on the steep side for a lunch menu and some reasonable price lunch specials would have brought more people in the door. The place itself is very nice and would give that 5 stars, overall as an experience though 3 feels about right given the other options locally.

Me and my husband went to The Hook tonight for dinner to celebrate our 19th year Wedding Anniversary and it was our first time there. The food was absolutely amazing! The waitress serving us was polite, courteous, and very lovely and easy to talk to. We were quite bummed to not try their desserts as we were both too full from the fantastic entree and mains we had. Service is great and the food is good and comes quickly. This restaurant changed its name, was Jackson Street bistro for ages and still has the same menu and owner. I always have the Whitebait omelette entree, $21 that comes with fries and a salad garnish. Although I swap fries for more salad, it's perfect and not a meal you can get anywhere else. Perfect place for lunch or dinner before a movie and we had a family birthday here last year and it was awesome. The menu is huge, so there's something for everyone although I wouldn't go as far to call it a Seafood restaurant for this reason.

Excellent restaurant with very courteous service and great attention to the quality of the ingredients, whether fish, meat or side dishes. Fish is recommended and we had an exceptionally soft, juicy and perfectly prepared fillet steak with a good bottle of wine at a good price. We were thrilled. Another excellent dining surprise on Petone's Jackson Street. There is more than great seafood on offer. Choices are good, dishes are well presented and delicious. Table service is OK. Parking close by may be a trick on a busy evening but a short walk will be well worthwhile.

I come down from North Auckland regularly, and have been eating at this establishment for over 10 years, starting when it was Jacksons. Now under the relatively new owners and the new name "The Hook", the meals are consistently excellent. The staff know their menus well and the meals are very well served and prepared. The lamb shanks, and the blue steak are superb. The Hook is a great place to eat and you can be assured the quality is right up there. I came down from Auckland once again and wanted to book table for 6, but was disappointed that they will no longer allow BYO. Their meals have been great. Sadly I will not visit this place again.

Slow to deliver overcooked food. Place wasn't that busy, plenty of empty tables, so no excuse for waiting 45 minutes for meals, in my opinion. A fish restaurant should know how to cook fish - 3 out of 4 meals overcooked; the other one wasn't fish... Staff very friendly.

Delicious food, great service. We have actually been here twice this week, once for lunch and then because it was so delicious, we came again for dinner a few nights later! Dinner was just as good as lunch! I have had the whole flounder (lunch) and the salmon (dinner) and my friend has had the nutty fish (lunch) and the pork 3 ways (dinner). My friend also had a shrimp cocktail as an entrée and said it was one of the best he has ever had and would have been happy to keep ordering them all night until he was full! I also had the deconstructed banoffee pie and the tiramisu. I have never had a whole fish before but the whole flounder was delicious. The soy based sauce that came with it was a great complement to the dish. The potato salad that came with it was wonderful. I was a little unsure about the salmon as it came with squid ink sauce but the salmon was cooked perfectly and the squid ink sauce was not as strange as I expected (I'm still not entirely sure I liked it but that's just a matter of taste). The mashed potato was creamy and delicious. The tiramisu was so deliciously light and fluffy, I have had tiramisu in Italy that was not as good as this tiramisu! The banoffee pie was deliciously sweet and even though I don't like bananas, it tasted good. The texture was very liquidy, which I felt was an odd choice but it was enjoyable nonetheless. The service at lunch time was a little slower than I would have liked. I waited a good 10 minutes for a drink and when it came, the mojito was much sweeter than I would have liked. However, the good food made up for that and then when we came back, the staff at dinner were so attentive and regularly asked if everything was okay. They were quick with the drinks, quick with the food and quick to ask if we needed more drinks. The staff are really lovely and friendly. We eat out often and it can be difficult to find good food, especially consistently good food. I definitely recommend this restaurant and we will be back. It's our new favourite!

Would be at least four stars, great food, friendly staff...but with the current COVID-19 situation was astounded the old pub-type practice of having a basket of knives and forks in the middle of the table. At one point two of us at the table were waving with both hands above our heads to get their attention. When I asked about the marinated fish and what is the marinade, due to allergies, I was told it was a sauce the fish was cooked in (umm yeah duh!). Ended up going for the cast iron fish pie. The fish pie was good, nothing that amazing though, lacked depth of flavour from the sauce. And it was very runny, more like a soup rather than a sauce (which explains why we got a spoon with our pie). I hope the feedback on the food will help improve the dishes as this place has potential.
