Reviews of Clearview Estate Winery & Restaurant
M.
Beautiful setting, exquisite wines. However very busy Sunday lunch with small menu and had to wait almost 2 hours for food to come to table. One of my favourite wineries but disappointed, especially as I was celebrating my birthday with Auckland friends.
P.
Great food today at Clearview. All 5 of us couldn’t fault our meals . Wait staff lovely and very chatty. Only issue was a bit of wait for our meals just under an hour but apparently short staffed in kitchen so they did really well. Will be going back on a sunny day!!
j.
We checked out Clearview Estate Winery while we were in Clifton and the restaurant was fully booked.
We booked for the next day for lunch.
We really enjoyed the atmosphere. It was very relaxed and comfortable. Thibault made us very welcome, and looked after us. Setting up umbrellas etc. All the staff was wonderful. The food was delicious. There was a dog sitting with it's owners - with a bowl of water - so I think well behaved dogs are welcomed. There is also a childrens play area.
It was my birthday, and an effort was made to bring dessert with a lit candle and a happy birthday song.
A lovely place for a nice lunch. The 3 of us enjoyed it. Definitely will be back.
Great food, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Nice environment.
S.
We had a very pleasant Sunday lunch experience with the food & wine being of exceptional high class & staff very friendly/warm/professional as befits a top league HB winery.
However due to the crazy covid world that such businesses have to operate under it was clear that this business is significantly hampered by a lack of staff! Our snapper lunch flavours were exquisite however I am sure I saw the chef rowing a boat out to catch it as it took that long to actually enjoy the dish after ordering. I highly recommend the food & wine however be sure to wear your patient hat as under the current trading conditions service was very slow.

Popped in for late afternoon wine tasting. Had a wonderful time with Diann (hope I spelt it correctly) looking after us. She was lovely. Especially enjoyed the Sea Red dessert wine
S.
Wine tasting with Lucie, she made sure we were looked after. Bryan and theo were also great value! Good wine and great service. Thanks team
C.
We had lunch at Clear View on friday. The staff were busy. A delay in food coming out but the wait was worth it. Lovely wine and fabuloys company and chat while waiting. The staff are fabulous and friendly. And when the food came out it was perfection. A bonus was the complimentary glass of dessert wine with chocolate. Thank you Clear View. Your amazing x
N.
Lovely morning spent at the vineyard. Beautiful weather, great food, wonderful wine and not too expensive at all. Thibault our waiter took us through a wine tasting which was entertaining and informative - he was a hoot. The owner Tim came out for a chat and ended up showing around the vineyard himself. Overall a great Saturday out and I highly recommend!
J.
Always accommodating winery. Lovely place to visit when in the bay and a great atmosphere. Blush wine is just spectacular! I love it here.
J.
Exquisite. The food was delicious. The staff very friendly. Was a little chilly inside though. For that, I had to leave a star off the review. The winners on the day were the 2 men delivering the wine tasting. They were extremely knowledgeable and totally drew you in with their expertise. They were very impressionable and definitely knew their wines. We walked away with 1/2 dozen bottles. That’s for a great visit, Clearview. We will be back for sure
B.
Some lovely wines and great food but they need to work on their service and timing.
I am coeliac and had different guidance from 2 different servers about what I could eat. In the end I had to have 4 conversations to just order my meal.
Then when our table (of 4) were served our mains there was about a 5 minute difference between the 1st and last coming out. Then the sides were brought out 10-15 mins later after all of us had finished our mains.
Such a shame as the food is delicious but
the experience was ruined.
l.
What awesome service provided by friendly jovial staff who were so accommodating, a delicious meal, and a beautiful dining area. Throughly enjoyed our evening. Kevin is the best.
H.
Came in and had a wine tasting while we were waiting for our table to become ready. The owner personally took as through all the wines on their list. The passion and knowledge he had was fantastic, he then ensured we weren't left waiting for a table and brought us to the table as soon as it was ready. The lady who then served us was equally as helpful and attentive through our meal. She then came and took photos of us in the vines after our meal. The food was also excellent.
If I could give a 6 star rating I would, ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC
S.
We had the sea food platter, it was fantastic the flavours/sauces made the fish pieces something that only a great chef could put together. We were greeted in a friendly manner and when a question like what wine to use with the meal she didn't try to bluff it and got the wine waiter that made a choice of a local vintage. The atmosphere was great evan though there were lots of leaves blowing around which only added to the ambiance of a working winery. I would recommend a visit.
M.
Outstanding, one of the "must do's" in Hawkes Bay. Exceptional wines, great staff and awesome service, no matter how busy.
H.
Gracie and Kevin were amazingly hospitable. We have dietary requirements and the chef made sure they were met. The whole team went above and beyond to make sure our visit was lovely, all whilst being extremely busy with other tables. Highly recommend for service and food
I.
Another memorable visit to Clearview. Perfect setting, perfect wine and with a new chef on board we were not disappointed. The seafood platter was a great accompaniment to the blush wine.
The staff are also certainly a bonus to this winery. Thiboult (from France) was so attentative, skilled in his craft, and a great conversationalist. We were very pleased we went with his recommendations. Just saying the pannacotta desert was the best ever 10 out of 10
D.
Great setting, staff are wonderful, friendly and efficient. Food was alright, presentation couldn't fault, but just average for the price. On saying that the Polenta chips were the highlight for me, out of this world, first time trying them, very impressed. Would love to go there for a platter and drinks with a group of friends, perfect setting for that.
j.
We ended our winery tour of the area at Clearview estate and it was easily the highlight of our day.
Ginny was incredibly welcoming and helped us by explaining the different wines available and was very accommodating, 10/10 service and would highly recommended a visit - will be visiting again!
J.
Food and service was excellent wine was grt too love to visit again 😊
M.
Great place for lunch, we both had a platter. One from the sea, one from the land. They were beautiful. Shame we didn't know about the free wine tastings if we had a meal.
Thought the waitress would have mentioned that. M & J
R.
Atmosphere is lovely, service is really good and food was yummy. You get a free tasting of up to 6 wines if you get a meal. The Wines I tried were amazing especially the Rosè which I brought a bottle of!! Highly recommend visting this winery 😊🍷
M.
Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, excellent wine and snacks. Cosy environment.
Wine - we got a selection of 8 because it was too hard to choose - complex, interesting, and good variety wines that are classic and elegant. The staff helped us find wines we wanted.
Food - relaxed and comfortable. Please mention on your menu that the craggy range blue cheese is goat. For people that are lactose intollerant this is important info. Especially because its gorgeous cheese that I'd like to have more of!
C.
Very small space setup for the wine tasting (no sitting) here, and the dinning area has no view. Most important is the Rose we bought tasted very different to the tasting one.
H.
We got married at Clearview on the 1st of Dec 2018. We booked the venue on Xmas Eve 2017 & had the pleasure of dealing with Kevin throughout everything. That man is an absolute star that has always treated us like VIP's right from the start! With a change in weather, the night went perfectly. Don't ever let Kevin leave 😂 because we enjoy being greeted by his epic moustache & happy face! Kevin, you are a true legend in the hospitality industry! Thank you for everything! Stu & Elizabeth Campbell 😁
S.
The best wine tasting we had in Napier if not ever taken by Len who was knowledgeable, funny, friendly and engaging and really cared about the wine and wine processes.Food taste and presentation was incredible in a relaxed non pretentious atmosphere. We highly recommend!!
C.
We had an impromptu visit this afternoon (NY day) after it being recommended due to being family friendly! As we arrived into the carpark - whuch was plentyful and easy, we noted it was fully booked but given the time (2pm) decided to try our luck. Outside the restaurant signage advised the restaurant was fully booked but tastings available. We continued happy to enjoy a nice glass if wine watching the kids without a tasting. We were more than accommodated - and delighted with the service from the restaurant team. The playground is awesome and fully fenced with lots to keep children of all ages enjoying the visit too - swings playhouses x 2, seasaw just to name some. Thanks for a lovely visit - see you again next time!
J.
Spent a lovely night at a work Christmas Party. The company used the same venue last Christmas but I am pleased to say that the food was a lot better this year. The staff are always very friendly, but unobtrusive. The wine is lovely.
J.
LOVED our wine tasting here this afternoon! Highly recommend Philip! My dad and I tried 6 wines each and they were all delicious and Philip was great at telling us about them. It was a full-bodied experience. Highly highly recommend. We bought a couple of bottles following the tasting and we can’t wait to enjoy them soon! 😊
T.
We had Philip lead our tasting and we had the best time. His knowledge on the wines and the atmosphere he set was so enjoyable and welcoming. The restaurant has a cosy inviting feel, and we were very happy with the service. We will definitely be back!
B.
We agree wholeheartedly with those reviewers who so enjoyed their wine-tasting experience with Philip. We (four of us) so enjoyed our wine-tasting with Philip. We found him to be exceptionally helpful, interesting, and thoughtful. So much so that we all bought some of the wines we had tasted, as well as extra wine to go with our lunch. We shall certainly be back!
H.
I had not read the reviews prior to heading into Clearview, and after reading I see that everyone who visits and has the wonderful experience of meeting Phillip thoroughly enjoys his welcoming charm! Not only was Phillip welcoming and informative on Clearview wines, he also shared great advise and genuine support for all Hawkes Bay Wineries. Great place!👏
P.
I spent a couple of hours at Clearview Estate Winery for lunch this Thursday.
A most pleasant casual and relaxed experience, the food on the other hand can not be described as casual it was seriously good, superbly presented on the plate by a person with some artistic flair.
Started with a Brave larger to settle the stomach then a large Reserve Syrah 2019 to go with lunch, slow roasted pork belly with pumpkin chorizo and savoy slaw, more Syrah and a couple of local cheeses and fruit all of which was well above average. I finished with an espresso which was average.
I recommend to wear flat shoes and check their website.
B.
Always a pleasure to visit and enjoy a platter with wine. Staff helpful. Good parking in park like setting. Not ostentatious!
S.
Delightful service, outstanding food and delicious wines. We chose between a few wineries in the area and decided to have lunch at Clearview and we are so happy we did. The waiter was relaxed and observant, the food outstanding and the milieu beautiful and inviting. We then received a thorough and informative wine tasting by highly knowledgeable staff. Will definitely come back next we are in Hawke’s Bay. Highly recommend.
R.
A serious local gem. World class food and wine. A grassroots establishment overflowing with local talent. This venue has both heart and quality. Highly recommended.
S.
Delicious wine, helpful friendly staff, beautiful location. We had a lovely time and bought quite a bit of their tasty wine. In particular I can recommend the Rosè and the dessert wine.
R.
Had a great wine tasting experience, thanks Len
C.
Loved the food here - really yummy and creative! Plus the stunning wine! Their staff are friendly too. We came for Sunday brunch and left with full tummies and happy memories:-)
M.
Food is tasty and decent but service can be a bit slow.
M.
Wines were decent although i am by no means a wine expert. I can't even tolerate my alcohol. The ambience is a bit homelier than the other wineries we went too. The brunch was pretty good and reasonably priced. The formal lunch menu is the same as dinners the prices for these were $30-40 if i remember correctly.
M.
Most amazing customer service, excellent food, best wine tasting we had in hawked bay. Would definitely make the 4 hour trip just to go here again.
F.
We visited Clearview today for lunch. There are only few options for the mains, but with good variety and all looked lovely. We ended up with two of the seasonal platters and a bowl of fries for 5 adults and it was just lovely. Add in some fine wine and a great time was had by all. The seasonal platters contained bread, crackers, chorizo, mushrooms, feta with capsicum, olives & almonds and prawns. The children's menu was limited, but had nice choices. Some of the adults had the cheese platter, which contained a selection of cheeses, fig, apple and pear. A few of the adults had dessert, which was beautifully presented. A great lunch all round with good friendly service.
G.
We arrived hungry and rejected by many other places on a super busy Easter Sunday, asked almost against hope, and despite the sign saying 'fully booked', if we could have anything for a late lunch. A lovely young Dutch waitress, who, like all staff, was run off her feet already, still managed a big smile, convinced her manager, and found somewhere to sit for us. We enjoyed the great food, the excellent Black Reef Blush Rosé, the wonderful ambience, and most of all the friendly waitress who was literally running - while smiling - between tables and the kitchen. To the manager, well done with your staff selection, I hope her payrise is just around the corner. To the waitress, keep enjoying what you're doing, and I hope you didn't mind the spontaneous farewell hug from an oldish man - it was heartfelt 😀 We had another bottle of the rose we took home last night to celebrate a great Hawke's Bay holiday, and with all the big names out there, Clearview took the cake!
P.
Still top place just had tasting but very good
J.
A wonderfully relaxed and
pleasant way to spend a couple of hours over a delicious lunch and stunning wine.
It is always a MUST visit when I'm in the Bay

Came in for a wine tasting, and we were delighted with the scope of different wines available to try, many of them absolutely delicious. The woman walking us through it was fantastic - knowledgeable and really friendly.
M.
Another fabulous lunch for my husband and I in this restaurant. We had a bottle of superb ros'e wine and lovely meals. I like the atmosphere and the staff who served us was very accommodating. I would definitely go back again!
I.
Visited this winery the other day and had some very nice wines. Two days later when i dropped in for a coffee I was met by the same lady who served us earlier. She didn't bother to ask why we were there, but assumed it was for food (which it wasn't), and proceeded to say they were to busy to serve food even though there were about 5 tables empty and the kitchen wasn't closing for 2 hours!. She then directed us to Te Awanga winery next door.
I can understand when things get busy and a little hectic, but to turn us away without asking if we were there for food, coffee or to buy some wine, has now become their loss.
However their recommendation was good, Te Awanga winery had great wines and the service was great, even through busy times.
M.
This is one of the best wineries I've been to in awhile. The wines were varied and exciting. And the winery's feel and location was spectacular. Very relaxed and amongst the vines.
I highly recommend this spot.
B.
Tasting was excellent. Tried 2 of the Chardonnays and a Syrah. Staff was friendly and it was nice to be able to choose which of their wines we wanted to taste. Seems like a good place for lunch as well.
f.
Bryan was amazing! So much knowledge and the wine was fantastic, 10 out of 10 for the sparkling blush
p.
Fantastic staff, great atmosphere and some really beautiful wines. It was the perfect end to a wine tour weekend with the girls
B.
Many wineries can be very off-putting to the average consumer. Instead of focusing on producing the best product possible, they focus instead on creating fancy, elegant environments that are designed to impress us. After all, an elegant environment must result in elegant wine, right? Wrong.
I don't know about you, but wine to me is all about taste. Clearview Winery is a small, family owned winery that has been producing award-winning wines for decades. Winemaker Tim Turvey will tell you that their secret is "all about having fun". By this he means having fun making the wine, and having fun sharing it. Everything about this place is just that - casual and fun. As a result you feel relaxed as you explore the vast selection of wines available.
Definitely worth a visit.
R.
Went in for a tasting. Great service - looked after our sober drivers first and then generous samples. Ended up buying a case between us - wine was ok but service was better.
D.
Huge variety of wines in a rustic setting. Standouts for me are their Chardonnays. Also you must try their red desert wine known as Sea-Red. My favourite cellar door in Hawkes Bay. Kudos to their generous, knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff.
J.
I went there as a group of friends and we couldn't have picked a better place to have our brunch. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. I had the Beachside Breakfast and I recommend it! The atmosphere is very relaxed and the view stunning on that beautiful day.
A.
What a fantastic night, thanks so much Clearview!!
We had a work function out at Clearview the other night which was really nice, food, service, wine was all brilliant.
Already looking forward to next years get-together which has been pre-booked.
Also last week we went out to Clearviews Friday night Pizza night with some good friends which was great with the live music so will be doing that more often forsure and such a great atmosphere for wine tasting too!
B.
Amazing service as soon as we walked in. Drivers offered water straight away and generous tasting free after a couple of bottles bought. Free smaller tasting also offered. Family friendly with playground for the kids.
R.
Lovely meal took a while to get it though.
C.
Beautiful little winery with delicious offerings and an impressive menu. Definitely worth the drive.

Wine perfect, will visit again when in Napier 😊
C.
Quite surprised that there was no salt and pepper provided for meals. Starter bread did not taste fresh at all. For an 'estate' I would not rate it highly.
L.
Fabulous wine... loving the new Black Reef Blush in bubbless.... weeeeee!!!
O.
Expensive for what it was. The bread, butter and steak were lovely. But the bluefin cheek was absolutely terrible, dry, tough and swimming in vinegar.
J.
Fantastic wines and food. Good value all around for what you get. Nice cosy setting.
B.
Had a beautiful lunch at Clearview. Lovely staff

(Translated) The winery that I visited every time I came to Hawke's Bay because it's not a neat and trendy atmosphere like the Elephant Hill next door.
The restaurant's food is good, especially the fish service of the day. There are good wines too. The basket press is expensive, but if you get a chance, try it!

(Translated) I love this place, friendly service great wine and food. Sitting inside near fire in cold weather day let me feel fantastic good.
A high-quality winery, the ingredients are fresh and taste appropriate, and the menu will also inform you of the wines that are suitable for matching, very carefully~
