First time in Napier, and friends brought us here. Chicken is a must try *ofcourse!, very juicy, tender, and not overly drythough might benefit for a little bit of roasting! The kumara and potatoes are yum, gravy might need a bit of salt and pepper. Chips are salted and crisp, loved them to be honest! (I hate soggy ones!) Price is reasonable for the serving size, accommodating staff, waiting time is okay-ish, it was a busy moment when we arrived but waited for about 5mins before our food got served (despite the fact that our group was a large one!).

Chips were a favourite but they changed the cooking oil, and added chicken salt to the chips which is not as good as before but still a great place to visit for volcanic rock cooked chicken, also they don't sell the 30 cent sauce and the takeaway box is now smaller for some reason? Staff are great. Location is well just look at these pictures and decide for yourself...

Nice place staff is friendly, ice cream prices are little higher than what you would get at your local supermarket frustratingly long line so I suggest you come early not in the afternoons. perfectly seasoned fries over all nice place.

This place has been here for years and I remember going here as a kid on holiday. Everything here taste amazing the large chips is massive and can easily feed multiple people and the chicken is delicious

Tables not always the cleanest on the times we have been to this place. I have found most of the staff reasonably friendly, has a nice look out over the sea. And also tables outside if you wish to eat Outdoors. For me it's not the nicest chicken and chips you can get in the bay, at times the chicken has seemed overcooked other times it has seemed undercooked, also not the cheapest.

Been going here for many years, went back recently since returning from overseas and it was a little disappointing this time since the ownership changed. The famous gravy is not the same now and the chicken not as tasty as it used to be.... less salt maybe?

We haven't been here for awhile as our last visit wasn't that great. However on a cold day the smell enticed us back and it was wonderful! The place was clean (apart from the floor but that is to be expected with so many people in and out). The chicken was moist and the chips and gravy made everyone smile. The children convinced us to get ice creams - which I hate as they aren't the cheapest. However the person that served us was so lovely and some how made the art of buying an ice cream a great experience! She also made the biggest ice creams ever!!!! A huge plus to all that work there, the service and staff were spot on. We will be back - also my husband wants to extend a special thank you as it was his turn to cook tea!!!

We like the meals but we have just been in there to get it for dinner and was disgusted to see a family in there with a dog...staff said nothing. It was in a pram/then held...disgusting! Other people noticed the dog and walked out. After eating the meal that night we were actually very disappointed as well. We won't be going back again.

Honestly the chicken is not worth it at all what so ever, I’m pretty sure the chicken style is meant to be grilled/bbq/burnt however it was too chewy and dry would be 2 stars but their ice cream is really good so 3 stars.

I have had to upgade my stars to 4, if this was my first visit it would have been 5. The young man that served me was great. The young lady that bought me my order, gave the best customer service I have received in a while. The food was to a high standard. Over all a great improvement.

This little shop is tucked away at the back of other shops which is a shame, the food here is amazing the prices are really not bad st all and the chicken is very hot and delicious, you can even watch the chickens being roasted over the vocanic rock which is really cool, it's like watching your food from start to finish.

Popped into Cool Cat for a Sundae! I got the brownie sundae, my wife hot the donut sundae, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely going to visit again. Highly recommend visiting. Staff were very friendly and sundaes were delicious.

Sort of out of sorts dining experience. It wasn't great and it wasn't horrible either, in fact it was one of those times that you go to a eating place and you don't really want to recommend the place to anyone and you're a little embarrassed to complain about anything to anyone. As a result this is one place that most people will only remember because of the company they shared, or the ocassion that brought them there and not so much for the food.

The Training girl was pleasant obliging and catered to the needs of all customers whether they were children, elderly or just someone taking their time to order. Her smile and manner made it worthwhile waiting. Meals cost $44 for 2 people i could have gone elsewhere to be more economic for the amount we received, like KFC for a 3 pce 1/4 pack that includes gravy, a bun chicken and chips but wanted the taste of traditional bbq. It was very busy in shop at 1.30 on Sunday 20th Oct 2018 with lines from the icecream side overlapping with bbq side. All areas were totally packed. You could see that the multiple staff had their afternoon cut out for them. I waited for maybe 20mins. As they proceeded to serve dine ins and takeaway customers. When i got there the order number was 46. I was 50. So 20mins to fully serve 4 customers? However i did notice at least 7 different potential customers come in line up and then get tired of waiting in line to be served and walk out. Which can be expected with the amount of people at the facility. While I was waiting i watched staff immediately clean tables as soon as customers left. Meals had a slight hint of bbq in some of the juicier parts of the chicken. The breast was dry, the wing & drumstick ends were burnt to the point the skin stuck to the bone. And the burnt tasted over powered the bbq. The chips were cold, soggy & tasted stale as if they were in the tray from the last batch. They werent crispy and hot. Banana fritters were hot, crispy crumbed but no sugar. The mashed potato and gravy was delish. Overall I was rather disapointed by the quality of food. This is probably the first occasion I've been disappointed with any of the food as previously I've had no complaints. This is possibly an outcome of what happens when there are just too many customers for the restaurant to accomodate.

Great for taking the family to with food and icecream for everyone. Very close to the beach so you can make a picnic with your food. Playground close by as well. Very popular so it can be difficult to get a park. Great for lazy summer days.

I've been going to Hot chick since I was a little kid, I'm now 47. Love the young people who work there. Kind and considerate, they like to help people. I of course love getting an ice cream for my two Huntaways and myself. Keep it up Hot Chick!!

Had an excellent lunch with the family here after spending the late morning at the rockpools, and seaside playgrounds. BBQ chicken, gravy and peas. Perfect lunch for the day with a lovely bbq smoke taste perfuming the meat, in a lovely indoor/outdoor setting. Nothing fancy. Just good food

Delicious food for family gatherings, you can enjoy your meal in the restaurant or on the beach on a nice day. Portions are large and tasty. Ice cream is good too and they also offer a choc dip.

Nothing better than coming down to the beach on a nice night, getting some chicken and chips and eating it outside in the sun. Then once you're done you can head back inside to the other side of the business, the "Cool Cat" and get yourself an IceCream. Take the family, you won't regret it!

I've always liked Hot Chick for its point of difference around HB. As for Cool Cat, I'm not quite sure how they can justify $5.30 for a "mixed" double scoop ice cream that is only TipTop, not a premium brand. Bring a 2 litre, a scoop and some cones from the supermarket or home 😂😂😂

Once our weekly ‘go to’ … but that was many years ago. I’ve no idea how many times the place has changed hands since Gary (who set up the original) and Ken (his trusty ‘hand prepared chips’ man). Their chicken was sublime … moist and tender … cooked to perfection … gorgeous crispy skin (the wings were always fated to be a little ‘crispy black’ in their exposed position on a charcoal rotisserie). Chips cooked to perfection (admittedly subjective), just right crispy outside, ‘all through’ floury inside. Sadly, no more. Dry (ish) stringy chicken, lank skin with a few crispy bits. Chips ‘nuked’ on the outside, barely beyond crispy (undercooked) on the inside … crispy ‘inside’ chips … not good.
