Literally in the car after dinner here tonight, I just had to come and write a review! We were greeted so warmly, I felt so welcome. Complimentary crackers and different types of dips to start with, delicious vegan tofu meal, and a complimentary little dessert drink at the end. It was just the owner and the chef there because of staff being away, we were advised of the situation and asked kindly for our patience, yet everything came out so quickly, fresh and beautifully presented. My first time having Indonesian food, I'll be back on my next visit! Krissy (and Janneke and Elise!)

We don’t eat out often but when we do we are disappointed but I tell you what this little restaurant absolutely blew us away such a fantastic experience I wish we had something as good and traditional at home. Well done and keep up the good work 😀

What a gorgeous place. My friends and I enjoyed an absolutely wonderful Rijsttafel. Such care had been taken with the preparation and presentation and the result was a culinary feast that was both beautiful and delicious. The personal and friendly service made the whole meal such a wonderful experience. We would definitely recommend this place and I am looking forward to going back!

This business is excellent! They catered our end of year Christmas dinner and the food was so delicious that we got many comments about it. The owner is such a lovely lady and she made the whole process from menus to delivering the food so straightforward that they are definitely a business that we would choose to cater future events. If you are looking for delicious food then this is the place to contact.

Enjoyed the tasty variety of dishes. Very friendly staff. Disappointed tovwait 1.5 hours for food despite booking a table. Maybe there were a lot of walk-ins?!

Under new ownership since we last visited, the first change we noticed was the tableware. Gone are the authentic Indonesian plates and bowls, replaced by standardised restaurant grade white versions. The atmosphere remains somewhat Indonesian from the original furniture, lighting and adornments on display. As part of a large group we selected a combination of individual meals and the Rijsttafel Supreme. The meals arrived promptly, were flavoursome and there was sufficient to satisfy everyone. By the time we moved on to desert the restaurant was at capacity and while the staff remained friendly and attentive, the service began to falter. Drink orders were missed and deserts came out ad-hock, with the last couple of cakes arriving 15 minutes after everyone else had finished. While not a perfect end to the meal, it was still a great dining experience.

Cantik (beautiful) restaurant, people and cuisine! We sat for a meal for two. Both of us has the Rijsttafel (a banquet of four dishes, rice and little dishes for toppings) one meat and one vegan. It was amazing having so many different flavours in one sitting, especially having many vegan options. The lapis legit - spekkoek which is a very thin, fluffy chocolate layered Indodutch cake was also devine. Indonesian culture is evident through the food, the interior and exterior and the owners/operators of the restaurant. My experience at Restaurant Indonesia made my taste buds feel like I was eating with my family in Bali (my aunty is a Balinese chef). I think adding Indonesian breakfast to the menu would be make the experience even more fantastic too ;) I would love to have more Indonesian cuisine in New Zealand as the flavours are exciting and cantik (beautiful). Go here if you are eating out in Napier!

Very nice food and lovey decor. Loved the food and taste. Had their speciality Rijstaffel. Certainly recommended. Gives a taste of Indonesian food. Their chutneys were good too as I love hit food. However serving size was small for 36$. Food worth was probably 10-15$. Pictures attached. But overall good taste and enjoyable.. dessert was ok. Will come again but try the alacarte dishes

We had our last dinner in Napier at Restaurant Indonesia at Marine Parade. We enjoyed our food from appetiser to dessert drink. Their staffs are very accomodating and friendly. My partner is vegan and he really likes their jackfruit rendang, and also plenty of vegan options on their menu. We recommend to dine in to this place if you’re visiting Hawkes Bay.

It has been so good being thrown back in that time we went to Bali. Food here is just great, but expensive $$$. Highly recommended

Very impressed with the food here, can highly recommend and we will definitely be back. The meat Rijsttafel is a great way to try a bit of everything. If you're after one dish we really enjoyed the Lamb Semur and Rendang Padang.

One of the best restaurants in Napier. Excellent food and customer service. Very authentic Indonesian food. We always bring visitors here and it has never failed to impress.

What a fantastic find this place is! I would never have thought I would find an Indonesian restaurant in Napier, let alone an exceptional one. They only do tasting selections, with 5 options to choose from. We went with the biggest one, pictured, which was just fantastic (plenty to take home too as we couldn't finish it). Each dish is from a different region so you get a taste of the whole country. Everything is perfectly crafted with fantastic flavours throughout. The sambals they have are also really good with 3 heat options to choose from. The decor is also really cool and gives you a good Indo vibe. 100% recommend.

It was our first time trying Indonesian cuisine, and we fell in love with the food and their hospitality!!! Since we weren't familiar with Indonesian food, we tried the supreme rijsttafel (banquet). This was fabulous in quantity and quality!!! All the food was quite mild for our palate, but they provide extra chili of different strengths to supplement the food. Must try if you are in Napier!

We found this hidden gem on Christmas day simply because everything else was pretty much closed. Me and my partner both have never had Indonesian food before but we were mind blown by this first experience. Everything was cooked perfectly especially the lamb and the beef, they were just fully absorbed with delicious jus and the meat was so tender. There were also a lot of interesting facts and food knowledge presented in the restaurant which was just fascinating! We loved every bit of this place, please go and check it out for yourself if you are in Napier :)

Now I want to visit Indonesia! Great for vegetarians. Jackfruit. Tofu. Tempeh. House made soy sauce. Healthy kids menu. Able to kick up the spicy. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Book ahead even on a Wednesday.

We were really impressed with this lovely (busy) restaurant on Marine Parade, Napier. Overlooking beautiful Hawke Bay it provided an authentic Indonesian atmosphere with a unique menu. Staff and management were very friendly and welcoming. We had one guest with a ''special' diet which the chef discussed discreetly with him and produced a lovely meal suitable. Not a problem at all. We really appreciated this extra over and above service. Our other quests tried the banquet style meal. Very nicely served as a sample of several small dishes. Ideal if you're not familiar with this cuisine. Our guest with the special diet is certainly keen to return when his appetite is back to normal. Many thanks for a very nice evening.

Authentic Indonesian cuisine, great flavours with balanced use of spices. Slurped up everything including the sauces. As good as it gets!

A deserving 5-star authentic Indonesian food and rijsttafel experience (coming form an Indonesian here). My personal favourite was the spekkoek which was sinfully mind-blowing. Place is family and children friendly. The owner & staffs are warm and lovely. Definitely coming back the next time we're in town.

Nice food, well presented and good value for money. We had the meat Rijsttafel for 2 which contained a nice variety of dishes with sufficient for two hungry people. Loved it. By the way, when they say one of the sauces is very hot they do mean it......

We came here for dinner. I really liked the "Rijsttafel" which gives you the opportunity of trying a little bit of everything. Quick service, lovely smiling staff. The Indonesian decoration gives you the feeling of being there on vacation.

Always a great place to go, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to book ahead as they are always busy. My partner and I usually get the Rice table, it's delicious with plenty of variety. A good way to try different cuisines. Highly recommend.

Excellent restaurant!!! Having been to Indonesia on a few occasions, I can definitely say this place is as close as you can get to a genuine dining experience. We had the supreme Rijsttafel... This was a wonderful evening! The new owners are amazing and the service was great! And the food... was finger licking awesome! I should have accepted the offer for a tea to wait until the rain had cleared but that is hindsight and even returning to my motel soaking wet couldn’t dampen my delicious food experience!

Really happy to find Rijsttafel here in NZ. Rijsttafel is a Dutch version of Indonesian ‘Nasi Padang’ where you get a lot of small plates of food. They have option for meat, fish, mix, and vegetarian. Service was really friendly. Taste yum !

The chef is a genius. They have 6 vegan dishes to choose from and the 3 I tried were, I'm gonna use the other d word now, delectable! They had this event in November, like a vegan day too. I ordered the platter, which for a regular sized human is large, and halfway thru I ordered another platter so I wouldn't have to stop eating for long and wiped out both. Everything was exotic and, yes, delectable, even on the eyes. Trust me. The restaurant itself brings Indonesia to NZ, it's beautiful. You'll see. Get your passport ready. Sorry, way too cheesy, right? My bad.

I have to say it is the best restaurant in town. Love the nasi goereng. Beware of the food you order as the servings are large and you will always overeat here.. the food, ambience, staff everything is awesome. I love this place so much..usually visit it 2-3 times a week.

This place is fantastic. My wife is gluten free, and they were so accommodating that even the chef came out to clarify exactly what could we could be served. The food was incredible and service was exceptional. Can't recommend this place enough.

We have just had the pleasure of eating at this gem of a restaurant. We had the vegetarian and fish selection and it was amazing. From the moment we were welcomed in, to the service with smiles and warm hospitality. The lovely food which not only bought to the table but also explained, great. We booked a table for 4 and choose the sharing multiple meals option - rijsttafel. I had the vegan option and also chose the black rice pudding for desert and it was amazing, the best Indonesian we have had! (We were also a combo of dairy free, gluten free, gluten eating, vegan and meat eating and they managed to accommodate us all by opting 2 meat 2 vegan and 3 of those gluten free 😅 ) The service and atmosphere was lovely, warm and friendly. If we lived in Napier we would be here weekly!!! Thank you ♥️

My wife and I, we are from Auckland and did not expect to find such a good Indonesian restaurant in Napier. The food served was as authentic as the ones we have had in Indonesia. The Rijsttafel on the menu allows you to sample small portions of different dishes from the various provinces of Indonesia. We had the Meat Rijsttafel and that was excellent and there are options for Fish or Vegetarian Rijsttafel. What a great idea to have the chilli sambal available on the table at 3 different spice levels - it allowed us to make it our food as spicy as we like it! My wife and I had the Bebur Ketan Hitam (with really thick coconut cream) and the Bolu Pandan cake for dessert. Both were excellent as was the service throughout the meal. Thank you and well done, we recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Indonesian food.

Great, friendly, casual little restaurant with delightful hosts. We had the meat rijsttafel, comprising a dozen lovely little dishes - each one wonderful. Perhaps surprisingly, it was the saté/satay that impressed us most - certainly the best I've ever tasted. At $30 pp for the meal and $40 for a decent bottle of wine, this was a very reasonably priced and EXCELLENT night out. We would absolutely and unreservedly recommend Restaurant Indonesia.

My partner and I were in town for Christmas and Restaurant Indonesia was the only place that was open. All I can say is we are glad we found this place and couldn't have had a better Christmas dinner. A Little sad we don't live in Napier to come back more often. Thanks for the amazing food!

I am Indonesian and I have to say the food is so authentic. Try the Rijsttafel to try different type of indonesia food. I love the most spicy sambal, but a little bit too spicy for my wife 😄. (Note: my spicy level is a little bit out of control compare with normal people) To finish off, their service is superb. You guys make me proud of being an indonesian!!!

Authentic Indonesia food

We celebrated a birthday at this restaurant on Monday 26 August and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We ordered the Supreme Rijsttafel- a new 'adventure' for us. This was fully explained by both the chef and other staff (whose service was outstanding.) We enjoyed every morsel. Would like to see more options on the wine list. 😉

Was an absolute delight, took us back to Indonesia. Was reasonably priced, good variation and the culture came to life at the restaurant which I found beautiful. The staff were not to be faulted, compassionate and considerate. Wish they had the restaurant closer to where I lived so I could get to know them better and become a regular 😊 extremely glad we continued looking at somewhere to eat and found this gem.

Music a bit loud. Waited an hr for our dinner but it was worth the wait. Beautifully presented tasty and delicious. Service was excellent. Restaurant Indonesia in Napier is an amazing gem! My family and I was visiting and just stumble upon this restaurant. We had the most authentic Indonesian food in New Zealand, we even finished the sambal! Best beef rendang, satay sapi was a must have as well. Thank you Vivi and the rest of the team for the amazing hospitality, we will be speaking of your place to the people in Hamilton! Keep up the great work.

Such an awesome restaurant with great service. I was there with a total group of 6 people and we all ordered some variation of the rijsttafels. Everything was delicious and, best of all, the peanut sauce was unbelievable. The next time we visit Napier, we are absolutely going to eat here again! I would have included photos, but we were too busy eating.

Fantastic food and very hospitable. Owners very happy if you take the time to use a couple of words of bahasa Indo if you know any. It really felt like you were are being invited into an Indonesian family home and being shown carefully selected highlights from the cuisines of the whole region!

Restaurant indonesia was lovely. We had the rijstafel (?) banquet which was a great way to try lots of different things. The staff were very friendly and explained everything really well, in particular the meals in the banquet which all come from different islands in Indonesia. The Beef Rendang was AMAZING. 👌😍

A nice cosy atmosphere, delicious Indonesian samplers from different provinces. The restaurant has been around for 35 years. One of the best Indonesian restaurants in NZ, especially with the new Indonesian owners. Very friendly & warm service. Will surely be back if visiting Napier again!

Our experience trying the Rijsttafel for the first time was absolutely delicious. We weren't quite sure what we ordered, but were caught off guard by how much we loved all the small dishes inspired from different parts of Indonesia. Phi Phi was delightful and attentive which made us feel like we were eating in her very own home. She even brought us out another portion of one of our favorite dishes from the vegetarian Rijsttafel after we raved about it to her. If you're looking for an Indonesian restaurant and a fun dining experience I highly recommend coming here.

A hidden gem of Napier. This spot is cosy and welcoming, and you will be impressed with the selection and quality of the dishes. I have been coming here for almost 10 years and would recommend to anyone visiting Napier.

We had a family celebration at Glenfalloch for our daughter, the restaurant was warm, welcoming and a true culinary experience. Had the absolute pleasure of attending the Wild Food degustation here a couple of months ago. You know those meals that you keep thinking about afterwards? This was one of them! Fantastic food with a great “wild” twist, was really interesting.

Fab. We had the vegetarian tasting banquet and it was great. Really tasty food. It is only a small place so you may need to book if it's a busy time. We had to wait and book for later. Food came quick. Staff friendly. A little more expensive than average at 30 dollars but for all the food you get I'd say it's worth it

One of the best Indonesian restaurants in NZ! The Rijsttafel provides you a menu of many little tapas, and its nice, cosy and warm even in winter. For those who know the Dutch-Indonesian restaurants in the Netherlands, it really is the same great taste!

This restaurant is officially one I'll be recommending to everyone stopping in Napier. The cuisine absolutely blew me away. Not only was the food phenomenal, but the service and presentation were excellent as well. This is a must-visit when you're in Napier.

Genuine Indonesian food, with the story behind it if you ask. The food is prepared traditionally, with generous servings, and beautifully presented. We opted for a banquet to get a feeling for the cuisine, as this was our first visit to an Indonesian restaurant. We are hooked, and will be back again.

We had dinner here during the Art Deco festival, and loved the food so much, decided to return less than a week later. Be sure to arrive hungry, and try the green sand drink (non-alcoholic). The wonderful Indonesian artifacts on the walls, compliment the exceptional food.

Quaint from the outside, welcoming and friendly from the inside. Service was efficient and wait staff were knowledgeable. They ensured we were enjoying ourselves and took the time to chat with us. Food came out in a timely fashion and was all very flavoursome. Definitely recommended! The only thing that would improve upon the experience would be some ambient music.

From the outside unimpressive. But if you take a look behind the facade you can find a great restaurant. This is open since 1983 and is known for its super delicious "Rijsttafel". This is actually a Dutch invention, but is served here with typical dishes from Indonesia. You can choose between fish, meat and vegetarian. Per person for $29.95. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Small - but very cozy. For everyone, who don't know the Indonesian rijsttafel: It consists many side dishes served in small portions, in combination with rice and prawn crackers. The owner itself is dutch and runs the restaurant with heart and soul.You feel immediately welcome not at least because the staff is super friendly. Reservations are recommended. Anyone who likes good indonesian food should have dinner here at least once! You will not be disappointed. Thanks for a great evening.

Impressive Indonesian décor that makes you feel that you are in another country, it was one of the best I've seen in a restaurant so far. The service was excellent and we were attended to y the staff, constantly. The Rijsttafels menu is a great idea as it gives an excellent introduction to the Indonesian cuisine by offering a various different dishes to try in one sitting, hence we ordered the Supreme which had almost everything. Coming from Malaysia where the food is rich with spices, I felt that the spices here has been dumbed down and several dishes lacked flavour. There were rendang and curry dishes that tasted good but could do with something that will give that extra ooomph. The Udang goreng was my least favourite: the shrimps were rubbery, cooked in some sort of caramel-like sauce that didn't have a whole lot of flavour. The condiments/side dishes however were delicious and complements the main dishes. All in all, we enjoyed the atmosphere and had fun trying out the various flavours in one sitting.

We went there last Friday with workmates. It was our first visit there and I fell in love with everything. Lovely food(massive vegan option)It was so yummy. Ambience was nice and cozy. The best part, I really want to give 5* to the server lady who was working by herself with the chef in whole restaurant. She was just amazing. She made our visit even better with her hospitality. She looked after all the tables so well.She didn’t panic at all even though it got bit busy. She was calm, friendly and approachable. She also well explained all the dishes too. Thank you so much for having us. I will definitely come back and will bring my friends too.
