Had our last dinner here while on holiday in Ruapehu. Cute bar & restaurant. Food was good, wings were delicious with a little kick to them, fettuccine was different but still nice & the kids loved their burgers & fries. Another had the steak & gave it a 👌🏼. Meals were reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly too. Would definitely visit if ever in town again.

Just giving 4 stars because unfortunately they didn't have an item available! But apart from that, exceptional food for the price, and big servings. We ordered the pork ribs and the falafel burger. Lots of people so it's hard to find a table during busy hours. Would definitely go again!

Can of Smirnoff was $10.00 and a can of rum and coke $10.00 they dont sell bottles. Liked my burger didn't like the BBQ sauce on it beef Pattie was delish though Pork Ribs were $33.00 not happy with that either. My son ordered chicken and mango pizza he liked that. Was a bit disappointed tried not going back there.

Great atmosphere and great service from the girls last night. However, the food is very below average for what you pay. Not really an issue about the price as you can expect that in a tourist place but you would expect a satisfactory quality pub meal from this place which you won't get.

We had such a lovely waitress but unfortunately the food let the experience down. I expected the pork belly entry to have crackling but it was soft and unexpected, the adamame was very bland and under seasoned. The streak tasted great but was cold. The witness provided a free drink which was lovley of her to rectify it

The best place in Ohakune to hang around for drink or dinner after a full day at the mountain. The atmosphere there is very cozy, warm and positive. Love the winter warm design of the whole place. The staff is super polite and helpful, always checking on your food and drink refills. Great selection of beers here, delicious. Even though the burgers here are not the best I ever had (and not a fan of square buns), they were still pretty darn good. Could have even gone for desert, but was too full from enormous amount of fries the bring with the burger. Definitely worth a visit. Will be back here for sure.

Hats down to the staff and mainly to the kitchen. Came here two days in a row around 6pm. Hectic busy! Despite the fact the staff warned us about 30mins wait for food, they brought it out within 25 mins. Thanks for that! Tried steak, lamb, burger (no pics, too hungry), nachos.. And more. We were table of almost 20 pax. Lamb is def winner! Everything well cooked. Burger was aldo great! Great vibe, hard-working nice staff! Your place to go if in the hood. Also good beer selection.

Stopped by on the last weekend of the season and the bar was still quite busy, with no table available in the designated dining area. I ended up opting for buying at the bar and picking a place somewhere and even then the options were fairly limited. Food was alright. I had the fishcakes and the pork belly. Both were tasty in their own right. Just found that the fishcakes were a tad salty. I was expecting a bit more from the S'more dessert but it was just marshmallows melted over chocolate. Think I would have enjoyed it more if the cracker was harder since it was really soft and quite crumbly. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Even though they were busy they were able to serve desserts after the mains, although there was a bit of a wait. I would probably come back for the food but probably a different dessert.

Cosy, excellent hospitality, would recommend the Marsmallow stout. This was the only restaurant that made a plan to accommodate people without bookings on a Sat evening. The ribs were fantastic. If you are hungry and ordering the Duckleg, suggest ordering a side portion of fries/mash. Sadly the lambshank was sold out. On a Sunday pm, only a limited barsnacks menu available.

The Powderkeg has to be, one of my top 10 Favourite Restaurants around New Zealand. Starting from the gorgeous location in Ohakune to the beautiful food on the plate, really amazed me. The work that has gone into the architecture of the building is outstanding and is just bewildering. The food is excellent and the staff top that! Really exuberant and Delicious! I'm delighted that I chose this Restaurant tonight! I will be back!

Right, forget about the decor, it's beaut. Forget about the service, it's fantastic. What you should be concentrating on is the food, as it is absolutely incredible. Our large group hit town and as we'd booked ahead had seats as soon as we arrived. Our server not only was efficient at taking our orders and remembered where each meal should go. I ordered the steak and it was fantastic although I should have ordered a side salad. The big chips are amazing. Top job Powdered, and a big thanks to those genies in the kitchen, they probably don't get the praise the deserve.

As usual delicious food, amazing steaks, no complaints at all across the board with all our mains, but I would really love to see more or different choices for dessert though. We have a nut allergy in our family and they all 3 choices contain nuts, yes I know we can leave them out .. a cheese platter would be amazing..a lemon cheese cake would also be fab... Just a none nut option and a none sweet for the people who don't like sweet desserts. Other than that feedback, love the place, staff are really good, service is so quick 🙂

Best place to eat. Every time I have been down to Ohakune I have gone here with my wife. We are slowly getting through the whole menu. Everything has been stunning and each time we come we see another dish that we say "must try that next time". Never had a bad bite while here. Great variety of drinks also :).

Excellent atmosphere! lively and fun. The garlic bread was insanely good and the brews in tap were also sensational. Definitely stop in for a pint after the snow to just experience the inside at least. Warm and cozy, with an epic rustic atmosphere from the all wood construction. Friendly bar staff too! Awesome dinner. Nine of us and we all had a wonderful meal. I had the wagyu burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. Lovely setting with all wooden fittings and very cool tables and bench seats. Staff were very helpful and friendly and a good time had by all. Location handy for us staying at the Station Lodge by the start/finish of the Old Coach cycling trail.

Love this place. So warm and welcoming on a winters day. The range of beers is good and there is heaps of space so you can find a table to dine or stand near the glorious fire. The Bacon, Ham and Prosciutto pizza was sublime. Very impressed with that..was smokey and had a nice sauce on it. They mucked up my order and delivered a Hawaiian pizza to me but they fixed that up pretty quickly. My partner enjoyed her lamb shank but was jealous of the pizza..it was that good. The staff were friendly even though they were very busy.

Were hoping for breakfast (not available after 11), ordered the Powderkeg grill, was advised they couldn't do scrambled eggs after 11 but they ended up accommodating. Food was alright but the menu says tomatoes, hash browns, mushrooms, but really you get a limp bit of each. Sorry to be a Karen but check your plurals, fam. We went at lunch with 3 kids. My salad was great and wife loved get mushroom soup. Kids ran around before enjoying their food. Friendly service clean and welcoming. Would be nice to come back without the kids to the bar. If you visit read their rules, brilliant.

Came to this restaurant for a late lunch. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. I had the chicken avocado sandwich and my husband had the hamburger. Both our meals were delicious! We would definitely come back when in town!

We had a couple of lunches at the 'keg, and they were both good, one however was better than the other. We tried all the burgers available, mainly because we were eating at weird times so ordering off the bar menu. The chicken burger was tasty but a little dry. The Wagyu beef burger on the other hand was absolutely delicious, and I have never seen such thick chips, they were like railway sleepers (maybe the motivation?) Service, as always was impeccable, just the right amount of casual, friendly and helpful (both days!) Still good so many years later, I will keep going :D

Wow the food was incredible. We ate at the downstairs powederkeg in 2019 having the lamb shank and ribs. A year later 2020, I would be giving them about 3 stars, burger meat was dry.

Really nice atmosphere with multi level seating areas meaning you can find a semi private space with friends . Warm fires plenty of tvs for watching sport and an amazing selection of craft beer. Along with the the food was very good as well. Couldn't fault it.

The Powderkeg is one of the most iconic venues to visit when you are in Ohakune. The atmosphare really takes off during ski season and there is nothing better then sitting by the fire on a off sky day due to cold weather. The restaurant is good, last time I visited it was for lunch and while the menu was small the food quality was quite good. Overall not too bad, maybe some more selection on the menu (i'm talking about downstairs in the pub area as they don't open the main restaurant for lunch).

While travelling back north to Auckland, we were stuck for somewhere to watch one of the British & Irish Lions rugby matches as we were travelling in a campervan. Came across this little beauty tucked away. Very friendly staff, awesome surroundings and a great atmosphere. Highly recommend!

The only place in Ohakune where you can experience real Après Ski. Great atmosphere and fantastic food, it truely feels like an Après Ski restaurant/bar. The reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is due to the 'no under 14s' rule is not being enforced in the pool table area. At times, it feels like a daycare centre and this ruins the chilled evening vibe. It would be fantastic to see this fixed, then this would truely be a 5 star Après Ski venue.
