We had small plates for sharing and they were all very tasty. If we had found this restaurant earlier, we would visit again definitely. All plates were great. However the soda drinks are tap drinks and it wasn't that fizzy and warm when I got mine. Since it was only $4, so I didn't complain it. Still enjoyable with their food.

Popular restaurant in Ohakune on the main road. Tasty food with generous portions on offer on the menu. Kids meals available as well, with the option to pay $3 more to add a drink and dessert for the kids. Staff were lovely and the place was busy. Booking is essential

Busy and popular place, perhaps somewhat pricey We visited the restaurant for dinner during New Year holiday period. Glad we booked ahead - all tables were taken, and some walk-in customers couldn’t be accommodated. We had several dishes - mostly vegetarian. The service was friendly and the food good, but the price of some items was too high - for example- $9 for a small side of steamed greens (beans). This is perhaps due to being so much inland, and not having much competition. The baked feta was delicious- we had not tried this before. But the accompanying bread (baguette) was too dry. They also agreed to change the cheese in the gnocchi from blue cheese to cheddar.ni e To have this flexibility.

Just walk in on a winters night and see the beautiful wood fire with couches. Food was good, we ordered Tapas to share would have been nice if they spaced them out instead of them arriving all at once. But that didn't stop us from enjoying them and eating them. Just made us look like piggies. Nice spot, good food

I've been hearing about this lovely place and had the chance to have dinner a few weeks ago. Lovely atmosphere, huge fireplace, warm welcome and delicious, wholesome food. I tried most of the tapas and venison medallion, which was cooked to perfection. The espresso martini was strong and sweet, one of the best I've had. The service was so friendly and warm. I will definitely be back, thank you!

Good food, great ambiance, the mushroom risotto was simply amazing and so was the fried chicken and steak on Kumara mash

Absolutely brilliant food. Everything we ordered was delicious! Would definitely recommend and come back in the future. The owners are lovely and accommodating. The service was great and food comes out quickly. I would say try everything if you can! 👌

Every dish we had was amazing.. the garlic bread is a must have! The staff were so friendly and the food was great value.

Our whole family went on a trip together almost a year ago and stayed across the road from The Cyprus Tree. Food was beautifully divine and service was amazing! Server was a wonderful lady and the owner was so welcoming and warm. We had my sisters birthday there and they were accommodating with our makeshift giant eclairs for her cake. Highly Recommended!

We have visited this restaurant three times over the last three years while in Ohakune. The food has been consistently good, and we have especially enjoy the smoked kumara mash, and the pumpkin peanut mash as points of difference. The staff are friendly, with one waitress in particular who obviously loves her work. Had a brief chat with who I assumed were the owners about the mash, and they were more than happy to take the time to explain. Good solid food, nice atmosphere and a welcoming team.

I had the best meal of my life in ohakune, that was 25 years ago. First time back since and its so good to see this place still has awesome eateries. Cyprus tree Wonderful meal alround. I hunt out places that have sticky date, it was beautiful. The staff were awesome, so friendly just how I like it. The atmosphere was awesome too. Music was appropriate for the majority of the clientele at the right volume. I will be back.

A very busy night (Easter school holidays). Aaron (the owner) was great. Nothing was a problem. No Booking - "Have a drink and I will quickly sort a table". Food was superb, service was great - will certainly be back.

We called in last night for an impromptu meal, and as always the service and food was tops! A new waitress got our order a little confused, but fixing it was absolutely no trouble at all. And everything we ordered was delish! Highly recommended the Baked Brie and the Pork Belly. Fab wine selection also. All round place with super staff and a relaxed vibe. Just what you want after a big day in the outdoors. Thanks again guys. 😊

Lovely warm friendly waitress. Prompt service despite being understaffed (due to covid staff absences) and the vegetarian options on offer were terrific. A delightful meal out for me and my vegetarian friends 😋

Love the ambience of this restaurant, it has a welcoming and homely feel. I had pork belly, roast potatoes and a raspberry bramble cocktail.. all were absolutely delicious. Staff are super attentive even while busy! Couldn’t fault a thing 👌🏼😋

One of the best family meals we've had in ages. Amazing food, including two perfect steaks, very helpful around food allergies, great spaces for the children, and a roaring fire which was so welcome on a cold evening.

The food was great, food felt high quality and was well presented. Ribs were very moist and tender, really just fell off the bone but slightly lacked in flavor/seasoning.

The Cyprus Tree was so good, we returned. We stayed in Ohakune for 4 nights and ate twice at The Cyprus Tree. Both the duck and the fish of the day were delightful. The real fire kept us warm. And the service was also warm.

Honestly the best place in Ohakune. I had a Margherita pizza and it was the best pizza I had ever. The cheese was super melted and the tomato sauce was probably their own because it wasn’t the usual sweetish tomato sauce from the store. It tasted amazing. The place was also very well decorated and very aesthetic. It had a cozy fireplace and candles on the tables. Fairy lights on the ceiling and hanging lights brightening the room. The staff were very friendly and very kind as we didn’t know what some of the things on the menu were.

One of the few really nice restaurants in Ohakune both in atmosphere and food. Booking is recommended particularly if you have a group since it is always busy. Otherwise, you can wait at the bar for a table to fill up if you're not in too much of a rush and there aren't too many people. They have a fairly large drinks menu with beer, wine, and cocktails. Their food menu has quite a few selections as well. I went with a three-course meal and it was all nice. Started with the ribs because it came with onion rings. Tasty sauce with the juicy ribs and the onion rings were nice and crispy. Had the lamb parpadelle for mains and that was also really good. Nice flavour and the pasta had the right amount of bite to it. The snickers sundae was rich and delicious and a nice way to end the meal. Food is nice. Service can be a bit so-so at times particularly when busy. There was a bit of a gap when waiting to order and it took the manager to direct someone at me. Service was friendly. Prices are also quite good. A Three-Course meal with a drink was under $70. A good choice for a meal if there's room.

We came in 2 weeks ago with a group for dinner service, food and drinks were amazing and we’ve come back again tonight and everything was perfect again. Glad we have found a nice consistent place to visit when we feel like going out, ka pai we will be back again 😁

A great place to come with the family. Book first, they are always busy and fully booked, with friendly service (although not terribly quick). If you have kids this is a great place to come... but you won’t see much of them as there are so many places to play! The Chicken Terrine is fantastic, but too good to photograph (it has gone already).

Friendly staff with good service Nice and comfortable environment with nice food We ordered a Lamb Rump with Mushroom Risotto; Blue Cheese Pizza & Pork Ribs. Most of the people can’t accept the smell of blue cheese but I like it👌The base of their pizza was different. It seems like kind of bread (I believed is their homemade base). Absolutely delicious scotch fillet, and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. There is a dedicated play area (with lots and lots of toys) for the little ones to keep busy so that is another big plus! A large fireplace that keeps everyone nice and warm... definitely recommended!

Had a steak meal here and was blown away by how good it was. We were down for the weekend on a snow trip and decided to dine here. Everything from the service to ordering drinks was amazing. The food was delicious and was cooked extremely well. Would highly recommend this place for anyone that's in the area.

Stopped in bit late in the night but they still made us welcome. Food was amazing! I had the pork and it came out looking just like the pics, and the taste was beyond what I expected. My workmate had the rizzotto and we were blown away with the hits of flavor.

Absolutely incredible food (we both had the brisket) and I had the best sticky date pudding of my life 😁 Our waitress Cindy was soooooo lovely to top it all off!

Very nice cozy place to spend an evening after a full day snowboarding/skiing. The service could be a little faster, too us 15 min to get a waiter over for an order. Baked Brie with bread was delicious. Would stay away from the dumplings. Had lamb for main. Very well cooked, but there was like 4 tiny pieces. But overall had a good experience here, and will be back.

An absolute delight! :) Lovely asthetics of this place. We got seated tucked near to the fire place, cosy and quite a lovely spot :) Attended almost immediately even when it seems quite busy. Our order was promptly taken within few minutes we were seated. We ordered 2 mains "Cranberry & Pistachio chicken" & "Sumac lamb rump", Roasted potatoes and Smoked kumara with Cranberry and beetroot sauce. Both dishes were absolute foodgasmic... portions were quite adequate. A Must try place when in town 😇 PS: Booking is a must to avoid any disappointments. It gets busy in no time.

Our family of six thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Cyprus Tree. The service and hospitality was excellent and the meals were all delicious and beautifully presented. The lads in our group enjoyed the games while the ladies could enjoy a wine and chat. We’ll definitely be returning, I hope the ikamata & beetroot salad is still on the menu. Thanks team Cyprus Tree

Beautiful atmosphere, lovely customer service and the food was amazing. Highly recommend the beef checks with smoked Kumara mash, bacon, mushroom and garlic sauce.

It was pretty good food for the price. The kids area was really fun and the fireplace was cozy. One of the sofas near the fireplace was super uncomfortable but the ambiance made up for it. (If someone from the management team is listening, go have a seat on all 5 cushions and see what I mean - there might be something broken) Really cool log beams throughout which made you feel like you’re in a mountain lodge. The dress code (we were wondering before we arrived) is a bit more on the fancy side so wear a nice button up shirt / blouse and some clean jeans and you’ll fit right in. Impressive bar area with everything you’d ever want to order. We made a booking online and our group leader confirmed over email, but when we arrived they said we weren’t on their bookings list. (I guess someone forgot to transfer the booking to their paper calendar) Not a big deal because they found us a table within 30-40 minutes and we were back on track - they even offered a voucher for a future visit for the trouble. A nice gesture. Maybe call in your booking to make sure that doesn’t happen to you! Overall a great experience.

10/10! We could not rate this restaurant higher. Family of four with two young children and we were so welcomed. An awesome kids area that kept the kids entertained but out of the way of other diners. Food was incredible and service was unreal. We can’t wait to come back again. Everyone’s having problems with DELTA restrictions and lack of staff but our recent family outing here was wonderful. Food was great, nice choice of wine, and kids had access to a play room. We’ll definitely go again.

Went with three people in total. Had a pork rib. Three mains with siroin steak, lamb and mushroom risotto and each main were the best of it's kind... Pork ribs were so tender... Friendly staffs and warm environment. Will come again and recommend to others!

Amazing dinner with friendly staff. We tried the Salmon with cauliflower rice and the Smoked Brisket. Both delicious (with the Brisket winning). If you’re looking for a great place for a dinner In Ohakune, we definitely recommend this place.

We had such a lovely evening at The Cyprus Tree last night. The service was faultless, and the food was done so well. I'm still thinking about the gnocchi today. The restaurant was warm with a roaring fire and, the atmosphere was also great, very much helped by the upbeat, friendly staff. We've been here a few times, and will continue to return.

Great food. Everyone cleared their plates at our table. Prices are a little bit on the upper side but portions are actually very big. An entree was sufficient as a main for some of us which in the end made our meals very affordable! Highly recommend!

Awesome spot in the heart of Ohakune. Such a nice atmosphere, with some great craft beers! Big thanks to the chef for accommodating dietary preferences. This place is vegetarian friendly :) I just wish I had left room for dessert!

Delicious food, friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and welcoming to kids

Went on 2 different nights, the Sunday was 5 stars, we couldnt find fault in the food or service. We had smoked brisket, scotch fillet and the duck. But the Thurday we went back I could only give it 3 stars. Roast veg on 4 plates was cold and 1 plate some veg under cooked, brisket was to dry. Happy to go again to see if the 2nd night was just an unfortunate experience. Place was warm and comfortable.

I came in here to dine in here for a main, by myself. Unfortunately I didn't think to book the table and succumbed to a full restaurant, until a table became available later that night. They did put me up at the bar and allowed me to eat something of the smaller dish menu and it was delicious. The staff were also friendly and asked how I was going during my time here. Pretty cool.

Food was on point. Enjoyed each dish. And service was great. Ordered the chicken from entree & 300g steak $35 medium rare, fish of the day $30, & 2 deserts $16 each. Banoffee sundae & sneakers sundae. Both deserts not overly sweet. I was not disappointed. Love the food. Medium rare was medium rare, fish was wonderfully made had a kick to it & Chicken was krispy & juicy.

We had a lovely group family meal here. Impeccable service. We didn't have a booking and they found us a table for 4 adults and 3 children. There was an amazing area for the kids with nice clean toys and slightly away from the main area. Food was delicious. Definitely recommend.

We popped in on a Monday night during a road trip, with no reservation as we hadn't expected to still be travelling at 5pm. Despite getting there as soon as the doors opened, the staff were visibly taken aback by being asked to seat a group of 8 without a booking and one member of staff in particular became flustered enough to be rude. It rather spoilt the atmosphere. The mains were nice but pricey for the quantity and took a long time to get to the table. We left still hungry.

Great atmosphere with open fire. Good selection of beer and the food is varied and no one at our table disappointed with what they had. All the steak eaters reported a really tender juicy steak. I had a blue cheese and caramelised onion pizza and it was heaven. Great place for kids to go to.

Everything was excellent! The food, the service, the drinks, the restaurant itself. It has such a warm beautiful wood interior, the staff were so welcoming and accommodating, and the menu was so different and delicious. Added bonus was 2 kids areas! I cannot recommend highly enough! 10/10

Food was delicious. Service was exceptional. We had the bread, dips, pork belly and lamb rump. The chutneys really made the bread and dips, there was a good dip to bread ratio (important). I loved my lamb, it was a decent portion and was full of goodness. We had been mountain biking all day so this was the cherry on top for an awesome dinner!

Great venue, great staff, great food. Maybe needs a menu refresh, have been here a lot over the years and it hasn't really changed.

Warm pleasant surroundings. Friendly helpful staff. Excellent tapas. Gratteful owner/manager? came to our table after ordering tapas and suggested we may have ordered too many plates. Cancelled two plates as per suggestion. He was correct. We all left feeling satisfied and well looked after.

The staff were friendly, the kids play area was great and kept the little one entertained. The lighting was however a little dim. But the food totally made up for this. We had the pork cutlet on a pumpkin mash with a side of green vegies which were drizzled in the best dressing ever. The desert was also yummy, all in all we left rather full.

Everything was great except for the main course meals. There is an area for small kids, there was unexpected live music, and the desserts were good. My main, fish of the day, was just a bit underwhelming, mushy peas and capers, both nice but not a winning combination. One of the other meals at the table came pretty much cold.

The staff were warm and genuine. The decor is modern and comfortable. The kids enjoyed the table soccer and Pac man. Food was fairly standard. Our steaks were a little over, but were absolutely huge. The sides we had were a smoked kumura mash and a mushroom risotto, and both were a little bland, but that may be a reflection on our tastes, rather than on the chef. The venison again was beyond the medium we'd asked for. Value was okay, and in line with other local restaurants. I'd go back for the service, but I'd order something different.

What a gem! After murdering our bodies with 3 days of canoeing down the Whanganui river, a large group of us were warmly greeted and treated like family at the center of the restaurant. 17 different orders were no trouble for this power house of an establishment, neither was splitting the bill. You guys could teach a thing or two to just about every establishment in Australia who believe that splitting a bill is more complicated and difficult than performing a hysterectomy. When the meals come out there was not a dry eye in house. The food is displayed with finesse, artistic poetry in motion. Hell, I am even sure I heard the Mona Lisa ate here once and she cried like a baby. We ate here twice, each time better than the last. Statistically impossible I know, but nonetheless it was achieved. After dinner, a younger form of myself reached out to me in my dreams, which I thought might be a sign of my growth and maturation. His hands reached for my face and I readied myself for a warm embrace, but instead he forcefully back handed me, yelling "WHY THE HELL DIDN'T YOU EAT HERE EARLIER SO I COULD ALSO ENJOY THIS YOU JERK!" Moral of the story. Great food. 6 stars Will eat here again.

The steak I had was AMAZING. The rest of our party really enjoyed their meals too. Lovely ambiance with the fire going, BUT it was a little dim. Too dim to read the menu. So dim in fact, that we used our cell phones to throw a bit if light on them - & we weren't the only ones. Maybe bigger candles, as the tea lights weren't doing the job. That's my only criticism- & to be quite honest, the food is so good that even if it was pitch black, & I had to feel for my knife & fork- I'd be back in a flash!!

Twice we've stopped in Ohakune on a long road trip and both times we came here. The first was a recommendation and the second ... Well it's a great restaurant so of course we came back! The food is good, has good variety (a lot of interesting twists on pub favourites) and there's a godsend of a kids corner that lets parents take a breather from the wee ones. Order some share plates, have a drink or two, keep warm and look out over the stunning view of Mount Ruapehu!

We went here tonight for dinner with our kids. This restaurant is so clean and cozy. The kids play area was amazing and there were other families dining too. They are so smart seperating families from groups with no kids. Food was perfect. Staff were lovely and accommodating - this will definitely be our go to from now on. Dont bother going anywhere else!

We highly recommend The Cyprus Tree for the stunning food and exemplary service. We had our daughter's wedding catered off site, and found Aaron to be helpful in so many ways in ensuring the wedding was a great success. We simply couldn't have managed without his friendly, calm and helpful approach. THANK YOU!

The food was great. The staff were a little pushy though. We arrived at around 6:45pm with no reservation but they said that was fine and seated us right away. When we ordered our drinks and a starter, within 5 minutes we were asked by 4 different staff members if we were ready to order our mains. We had stated we wanted to have our starter first and then order our main. We didn't want to feel rushed and sadly we did. Other than that it was a nice evening out and the food was good.

Good food, the mains were well executed and tasty. The staff were friendly and the fireplace is super cosy. A nice place to unwind after a day of skiing.

The food is great as usual, service is fantastic - friendly staff and the knowledge of the food and wines served is totally on spot. The atmosphere is comfortably open. Thank you to all the staff for yet another fantastic meal and evening.

Just gets better every time we go. The menus are updated every quarter (with the seasons) and the selection is awesome! They also have a huge selection of beers to choose from and friendly, knowledgeable staff who give great advice on the options available. I'm a certified carnivore, but if you're vegetarian go here. The Cauli Wings with Buffalo Sauce were amazing and my Lamb Parpadelle was perfect. Our favorite restaurant anywhere.

Beautiful place, great kids area. Great service to start with, followed by being ignored for the rest of the time. Food was foul, med-rare lamb was burnt on the outside and verging on overdone, roast veg was soggy and had no flavour, partners steak was cooked well but agian no use of any flavour not even salt or pepper. We ordered the only gluten free kids option for my 2 year old daughter but they failed to tell us the entire dish was cooked in the serving dish - trying to feed a hungry 2 year old food that was still bubbling from the oven in a dangerously hot dish was a mission and a half, some warning would have been nice. We packed up post meal, reclad ourselves for the walk home and then had to stand at the bar for another 4 minutes before being attended to, plates still half eaten and on the table.

We are regulars at Cyprus Tree. Aaron, Leah and their team provide consistently great food and service and the venue has a warm atmosphere, especially with the wood fire blazing during the winter season. Good dessert and drinks menus round out the experience.

The food was amazing. I recommend the smoked kumara hash. The service started off well but dried up fast. We had to go up to the bar to ask for more drinks, along with the table beside us, while the front of house staff (6 in total) were standing in groups talking to each other or checking their cellphones.

Great service. Loved the entrees, so much so ordered again for another round. Good sized portions and different to other restaurants.

The free foosball table was great fun for me and my 10yr old. Was very busy but staff were friendly and handled it well. Mains took around 40 mins, and were delicious. Would go back, but if I were asked how they could improve I would say get the kids meals out a bit sooner. Thanks for an enjoyable night out!

Bit high priced but you get what you pay for. Its a fantastic experience. 5/5 will come again Edit, another visit Jan 2021, food was great again, atmosphere and staff great, and was suprised it came out cheaper than i was expecting. Thanks guys :)

Great food and great service! We will return, perhaps in the ski season when I suspect this place comes into its own. Big open fireplace makes it very cozy.

Beef brisket was good but way too slow and they forgot some of our orders so never came 🙄

probably my favourite restaurant in New Zealand. Food is delicious, not the widest range on offer but what they do they do extremely well. Kids play area is the clincher though, you can have an adult night out without the cost of a babysitter!

Beautiful place with a nice atmosphere, the food is on point and the serving size is decent for its price. The waiter was friendly and welcoming which is great when you're a tourist just passing by. I recommend this place if you want to end your day nicely.

A absolutely awesome place - good friendly kiwi service, with some epic meals, can recommend the mushroom risotto, lamb, kumera mash, duck... I think that's most of the menu in fact!! Would 100% visit again when I'm next in Ohakune!

The big plates are not always available and the small plates aren't very filling. The opening times are good, though, and the seating and service are excellent. The kids menu choices are sized for very small children.

Fries and some beer, what could be better? Excellent venue, great selection of craft beer and menu looked awesome. Cosy fireplace and even a big play area for kids. They even had a Foosball table.

Wow, we had the blue cheese and caramalized onion pizza to start and it was fantastic, I had the lamp rump with smoked kumara mash and all I can say is I need more of this in my life - yum!
