Arrived late, in evening, friendly fast service. Superb greenlipped mussels, Angus cheese burger thrilled my 11 year old 'Great chips'. Highly recommended for ambience and wait service. Even went extra mile and took our photo.

The first thing I noticed is how the staff put a big smile on our faces the moment we walked in. That’s really important, what a difference it makes. The entire night, all of the staff, all of them, were incredibly kind and friendly, and actually looked like they enjoyed their work! There’s actually no negative feedback at all that I can possibly think of for their service... just keep doing everything that you’re currently doing! The food was fantastic, had the lamb shank, wife had the pork belly - both were just absolutely incredible. The atmosphere is also great, really, it’s driven by the staff. Friendly, warm, exciting, great for families but also for couples. The big fish tank in the middle is a bit of a novelty, as well as the view! Very glad we came here and would definitely come again!

Great location on the pier, although no close parking. Breakfast was very good, the eggs Bennie with mushrooms was good and the eggs on toast with bacon were on point. Service was good. The coffee they use, best with milk. Had Dinner later.. The Eye fillet which although good, wasn’t filling and Lamb shank seemed better value. Some better red vino options by the glass

Despite being short staffed due to the impact of covid, we were very pleasantly surprised when we decided to eat there for hubby's birthday. The front of house staff were extremely efficient, friendly and happy to accommodate our requests. Nothing was too much trouble and we didn't wait too long for anything. The menu is very simplified, but the food was good. Our meals came in good time and the service was really good. The food (prawns, mussels, chowder, lamb shank and fish) was wonderful. Beautifully presented, and perfect portion sizes. We felt really satisfied with everything we had. No complaints at all and they were really nice to our boys when they approached asking for hot drinks etc. The impact of covid restrictions on our hospitality sector has hit hard and it is obvious that many businesses are struggling, so we need to take every chance we can to support them. We have no regrets going to Zane Grey's, they managed to pull off an amazing meal and service experience with very few staff, in this weird pandemic world. Well done.

Beautiful atmosphere but less than average service. Gorgeous veranda overlooking the Paihia wharf with sunset views. The ambiance is upscale and romantic, with modern furnishings and vintage lighting. Drinks are overpriced, as you’d expect from one of the trendier tourist spots along the Paihia strip. Bartending service is slow and inattentive.

Came here for brunch, very good view and comfy seatings outside, was quite impress with the setup. The utensils were clean but the paper towels were a bit rusty, probably need to clean out the tray outside every once in awhile. Anyway, we ordered the smoke salmon hash and the mushroom pie and a couple of smoothies. The smoothies was average, probably better to go to Tanks for this. But the smoke salmon hash was quite good, love the hash mixed with some onions. The creamy mushroom pie is also pretty good, nicely flavour, without needing to add any salt or pepper at all. So this place does pretty good food

Lovely restaurant with absolutely amazing views of the ocean. we went at night but I'd definitely recommend going during the day (brunch or lunch) to really get the picturesque views. Food is too notch and customer service brilliant.

I love the location, food and staff of this place. It's located in the city center with amazing views of the water and boats, perfect for romantic date nights. The food was absolutely stellar. I ordered the saffron risotto and my partner ordered the herb crusted snapper. Both were divine and cooked to perfection. I also recommend the chocolate mousse. The last time I tasted something like that was at Wolfgang Puck's restaurant in Manila. Lastly, the service was great! We have checked out a few places before settling into this one and they had the friendliest staff among all of them. Lucy, our server, went the extra mile. Checking on us every few minutes to see if we needed anything. She even served our dessert in the deck outside of the restaurant. Great job to the team!

Nice view of the bay from where you eat, service was good, food was great. Enjoyed the complimentary polynesian raw fish treat, and the tempura soft shell crab, fish of the bay however doesn't go well with the beans imo but was good to try something different. 👍

Fantastic service with a beautiful view. Its also no windy at all as the glass rail breaks the wind to a gentle breeze so even on a windy day its relaxing. Food was amazing and coffee was perfect. Definately recommend.

Right in the heart of Pahia town next to the wharf. Beautiful location. As you enter you are welcomed with a smile leading gku to your table. Staff who took care of us was LORENA. She's a gem from Argentina. Lorena u looked after us very well n we thank you for that. All the dishes prepared was perfectly cooked served with a beautiful presentation. Highly recommended no doubt about it.

The ambiance was great with the lovely outlook over the waters. Food as ok however due to lack of staffs food arrived over an hour later but the staffs were very lovely! Would not recommend the fish of the bay but the lamb shank was ok but pricey!

My husband and I both love the food, drinks and service here. The oysters are fat and fresh. The Greek style lamb shack is well cooked and very delicious, including the tomatoes and eggplants in it! Tiger pawn is also very good, the avocado and red kidney been taste excellent!

What a beautiful spot in Paihia to watch the sunset! The outdoor seating area is looking over the sea. The service was 10/10! The bartenders are so chill and funny. They made an alcoholfree pina colada cocktail for me. The mussels were AMAZING! And the fish&chips was tasty too, just a little too oily (I could taste the oil), and of course the portion could always be bigger ;) Really good value for the price though!

Absolutely gorgeous place to have dinner. I do recommend booking though as we did have a booking and they had to turn people away as not enough space. Saying that we did go on the 3rd of January so there was lots of people around. The food... WOW! outstanding! It was better than my expectations. We had the fish of the day which was snapper that day and also ordered lamp shank. And both were cooked to perfection. 100% recommended this place and will be comming back when we come back to Paihia next time. 😊

Food was good. Lack of wine selection on the red blends due to no stock. The oysters had too much broken shells for my liking. The mussel dish was steamed mussels prepared earlier with sauce drizzled over it instead of being cooked together.. That was disappointing. Unfortunately for them I make all these dishes from scratch so my expectations are very high.

Pricey, but you are in Paihia on the water. Not many vegetarian options, only salads. But it was very good, and you can add tofu. Calamari was apparently very good. The Zane Grey ale is so-so, but there’s a good selection of other drinks.

We have been there for a lunch and then a dinner at this great Restaurant, Wow. Good quality and very fresh ingredients used in all their meals. The portions are big and real value for money. Staff is very friendly and helpful. We have enjoyed Calamari, Salad with Prawns, Chicken Sausage starters and Seafood Chowder and some great coffee. Very Highly recommend to all future customers, come support our local businesses. Ample parking space in the area.

I visited this spot during my Northland trip. I must say, the aquarium was really nice! Was feeling like I was in a mini ‘National Aquarium of NZ, Napier’. I got a table alongside water. The wait stead very polite and had good customer service skills. I had a good time. I visited them on New Year’s eve, so the queue at the bar was obvious. They had some good selection of cocktails. Food was also good and the ambience was great! Would visit this place again in my next trip and would highly recommend! Cheers

Great view, super location on the deck. Good staff, nice, friendly and competent. Chilled drinks. I had a burger which was really good, hubby had calamari, also very good. We both shared a salad which unfortunately had quite a lot of already rotted leaves in it. We also got ourselves wet bums as the pillows on the sofas had obviously been left outside overnight in the rain and you couldn't immediately tell, only after seeing the wet marks around the pillows on top. Potential for five stars!

Basically paying for the nice seatings on the wharf. Selection of tap beers on the tap is average, they are mostly common beers like Heineken, Tiger,Monteith etc. no craft beers. They have their own Zane grey’s ale but it wasn’t for me. Food was slightly below standard. $28 fish n chips tastes like normal fish and chips, and the seafood chowder tasted like cream+ cheese+ bacon + frozen seafood, basically the one you cook at home. But the seating is very nice, outdoor couches with comfortable cushions and big sun umbrellas. Good place for a standard larger and bar snacks.

Seafood chowder had a great depth of flavour but there was something missing. Seafood. And it was cold. After sending back for a reheat, still only lukewarm. Then two breakfasts, the hash was very disappointing. Cubed potatoes with 3 small slices of cold salmon. You'd think I'd learn but no, back for breakfast today. The mushroom pie, again cold. Nothing really complimented each other in the plate. Spend some time on the menu, food and serve it hot and you'll have the place rocking.

Lovely Sammy served us and she was such a wee delight, and very good service from Sammy. The meal was lovely too fish and chips. The fish was so nice very crispy and melted in your mouth. I have been here a few times. The location is the big draw. Beautiful views and nice sized outdoor space with more open hours than most in the Northland. I'm not rating this place for drinks. I don't drink. Instead, this is completely about food. First, don't come here expecting any real options if you are vegetarian or have food allergies. There just isn't much on the menu. But, that is normal in NZ as I've experienced a general disregard from others as a vegetarian. People just don't seem to care or like the idea. (Over generalized but my experience). The staff is nice and friendly which is great. But, the food is really bar food. When it got busy my fries took quite awhile to arrive, I had to check on them, and they were soggy and missing the extra side. I'm sure this isn't the common experience, but it is a red flag. If the place is busy, just be aware. I can't give it more than 3 stars because of the food and the lack of options if you have any real food restrictions. What I have eaten was fine, but easily forgettable. But, I don't think it is the main point of this place. It's really about the location and the outdoor space.

Both the outdoor over the water bar, with its comfy seating and sun/shower umbrellas and the indoor restaurant are outstanding for a few afternoon drinks. The restaurant food was delicious and well priced, but the icing on the cake was the staff who were all exceptionally friendly and just sealed the deal.

Visited twice, once for snacks and drinks and second time for Breakfast morning after NY eve. Breakfast went wrong from the moment I tried placing an order, the waiter at the till seemed quite disengaged and only half present. We were after poached eggs on toast with a side of hollandaise and mushrooms. But were happy to order something else if that wasn't an option. The waiter assured me that they can do that with no problem, but it will be more of a Build Your Own which we were happy with. However, I don't think he really listened to my order as he wrote it down wrong. I corrected him once he read it back to me, but that was afte I had already paid and all he said was 'oh right, yes, got it, I'll fix it." I was charged for the wrong things, an orange juice instead of a green tea which is most likely a minor amount and perhaps cheaper but worth noting as he walked away before I could ask to see the receipt. He gave me a number, but forgot to note it down so we waited ages for our drinks and food. He came over after some time, saying he forgot to write our number down. We were just happy the food was on the way. Once the food arrived, it was a mess. Our poached eggs looked horrible, the hollandaise I will guess is bought in, which is a shame as it leaves a margarine taste in your mouth. The side of mushroom was flavourless. And to top it all up, they forgot our toast. So there was four of the saddest looking poached eggs I have seen or made in my life with a side of lifeless mushrooms. Waitress was kind and went back to the kitchen to get some toast. By the time our toast arrived, everything else was cold. And she only brought one portion of toast for two people saying it's because the guy at the bar never charged us for toast. We would have happily paid for what we ordered. We left dissapointed and still hungry. Perhaps the staff had a rough night out and their food and service is better on a regular day, I'll give them the benefit of doubt. But as travelers, we'll never know.

Went for late breakfast . Awesome location,very comfortable and relaxing lounge and table seating.staff were friendly, helpful, and happy. Coffee was good and came promptly as did the food. The bacon and eggs was very well done and generous proportion. Daughter had creamy mushrooms and was in love with them and only paused scoffing them down to voice how good they were many times. The place was very clean, modern and well presented. It has a very resort feel and fantastic views over the bay. There is plenty of soft lit shaded areas as well as seating in the sun which gives the venue great ambience. Wi fi is good and does not drop out so good for travelers. Overall a great experience and one we'll be back for tomorrow. Highly recommended.
