Such a pleasant surprise! We didn't know about this place and saw it driving by. The meat platter was incredibly delicious Chicken wings, steak and ribs, all prepared in a different way with 2 different sauces on the side, keeping your taste buds excited all the way through. Excellent service, beating any expectations. Incredible attention to detail. The atmosphere and decor definitely add to the experience. Even the bathrooms are stunning and have small rolled up cotton towels for drying your hands - a little bit of luxury. If you want to feel a bit spoilt and have a special dining out experience, this is the place for sure. We look forward to going back again to try other items from the menu ☺️

Wife's Mediterranean veggie grilled sandwich was outstanding. My bunny chow had great flavor and plenty of meat but unfortunately fell short in the spicy heat department and was more like a flavourful Stew. Not a good old Durban bunny for sure! However great location, vibe and service were excellent. Will be going back for sure.

My partner and I went for an early dinner on the 22 Oct 2021. Our server, Alex, was very charismatic, spoke clearly with a mask on and was very informative as well. We had ordered four drinks, two mains, a starter and one dessert. Everything came out very fast but we did not fell rushed at all and we were shocked that it was still so early when we left, very time efficient. Excellent service, shall definitely go back in future and recommend to friends and family.

This is my third visit here and I can truly say that probably third time lucky....I am more than happy with a very pleasant dining experience, we decided on the meat platter, salads and spinach. The best experience to date by far. The service we received from Lesley was exceptional, food quality and portions appropriate. Me and my partner came here for Valentine’s Day and WOW. Not only is the food absolutely amazing the service is incredible. We both left with full bellies and delighted taste buds. The menu may be pricey but it is SOOOOO worth it. Our server was Hannah and she was absolutely delightful. Best experience Little Savannah brings. If you and your significant other want to treat yourselves this is the place for it !

It was our third time here. Nice food as usual but disappointing service this time. The guy looked impatient when I said"pardon" as I didn't hear clearly when he said our server would be Lucy. We have not booked the table in advance and we knew it would be busy on Saturday night but we were arranged the first table close to the main door even we arrived very early. The guy said it was the only option. Yes we had to enjoy the wind as long as we had the steak. There were still some tables available when we finished. BTW, one hair was found in the salad.

Drinks 12/10 awesome cocktails Atmosphere: 10/10 great place Service 12/10! Couldn’t ask for better staff! Food 3/10 we received a burger which was incredible dry and took a large time to arrive( we did have a large group so understood) we also ordered the pasta which was chicken and peppers. A store bought pasta sauce and overcooked pasta would have tasted better. Was a bit disappointing as it was a birthday dinner and burger and pasta were both pretty subpar.

My friends and I came in just before Christmas for dinner, I’d never been to Little Savanna before. The service, food and atmosphere was all completely faultless. Leslie, our waiter, was fantastic and all the staff were so professional, friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back, thanks for the fantastic dining experience.

This place is absolutely fabulous, we loved every moment of it. Grace was our waitress for the night who was in training and she did an outstanding job. We were out for a 90th and she arranged for the team to sing Happy birthday to my Nan. They brought out the retirees menu which is fantastic as they serve very good portions for their mains so this was enough for the older ones with us. Good quality food for the price! Everyone was lovely. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.

My first time eating in Palmerston North and it was wonderful! Had the loveliest waiter who was very polite and knowledgeable. Big portion sizes, I could not finish it all despite how tasty it was. I ordered the steak and the Belgian semifreddo. Well worth it for the price and service!

My partner and I have enjoyed dinner at Little Savanah on several occasions now and we have never had a bad experience. The staff are always top notch and seem to go above and beyond to ensure we have a great evening. The food is always delicious and the atmosphere lively and welcoming. Last evening 12th March I celebrated my birthday with 11friends and I just need to let you know what an amazing night we shared at LS. The food was superb but the staff and safe environment was even greater. Not once did we feel nervous of the Covid that is apparently rampant in our city and it was such a positive place to be having fun and food with our host Margie and her amazing team. We drove in from out of town and had our first experience at Little Savanna's last night. It did not disappoint! The restaurant had a relaxing atmosphere and the staff were fantastic. Our waiter answered all our questions about the menu and enjoyed discussing beers with my husband. Our food was delicious and presented so beautifully even my 12 year old Son was impressed! I haven't done a review for a while, but done a 300-Km return trip for this one and catch up with friends. Place was packed (humming) when we arrived a little early, fortunately we had booked earlier. On arrival we were warmly greeted at the door and promptly shown to our table. As the night went on you soon realise the staff are amazing and genuine and add to the positive mood of the place. There was a good selection on the menu for most taste, with the steaks being the favourite at our table. I ordered the Sirloin medium rare and it came out perfectly with some good charring (flavour packed), I selected the blue cheese compound butter on top and yes this was a steak to remember. Everyone else at the table thoroughly enjoyed their meals and we were commenting amongst the table the food was amazing and on the mark. Food came out promptly from the kitchen, no one left waiting. There are children's menu's (options) on request. There was a good selection of drinks to suite (Beer, Wine, Cocktails and Juice), it is my understanding that tea and coffee were also available when we asked staff. Entrance is wheelchair friendly and although it was packed a wheelchair could come in and be seated at table. There is an area off to the side for smokers with high tables for drinks and to eat, note wheelchair accessible from the inside due to step on the outside. Parking is on the street generally (plenty on Broadway Road and Princess Street) so even if it was raining it's only a small walk with some cover, if you are lucky there may be some carparks off to the side of building. Facilities / Amenities were kept clean, tidy (towels, hand driers and lotion) Place excepts cash or card payment. Price wise you pay for what you get, and what you get is great food, great service. Starters around $10, mains $40 - $50 (Steak) and dessert $17 I would loved to have tried the pork belly but I was restricted this visit so maybe next time. All said and done, I honestly am grateful that I drove 300-Km for a meal here with good friends the food and service here are without question I encourage people to visit and support this restaurant because I hope it is around for many years to come. I will definitely make another trip up and eat here again in the near future it was awesome.

Great service and friendly staff. Got the 200g hanging steak coated with butter, was absolutely amazing! Partner got the combo ribs with eye fillet instead of sirloin and both of them were cooked to perfection. The gin martini was the best so I'm told and the passion fruit and pineapple daiquiri was amazing. Definitely looking forward to going again.

Wow, can not recommend this place enough. If you are in Palmerston North you must eat here, I went for dinner on Sunday and again on Monday. What a great place, lovely staff found us a table quickly both nights even though we didn’t have reservations and it was busy both nights. This is hospitality done the right way! From the moment we entered we felt welcome and were greeted in a friendly manner. The young man who was the host for the evening was very very good and certainly knows how to look after people. Our server Alex was as others have pointed out was present but not to present which was great. The food was great and my steak was cooked very well. My wife grabbed the espetada and was impressed by the flavour. We both grabbed the Belgian dark chocolate semifreddo for dessert. They added a candle to mine as it was my birthday, again more great attention to detail. You can't go wrong with a chocolate dessert right? Overall I can see why you need to book to visit this restaurant! Keep up the great service!

Little Savanna is an amazing place to eat. The prices are reasonable, the space is well lit and there is a good space between each table. The staff are extremely friendly, quick to help and happy to have a conversation. You're never left sitting for too long, and the wait times for food are short to the point where you barely notice you're waiting. The drinks are well mixed and priced. The food is beautifully cooked, with the steak and the ribs practically falling apart. The onion rings were crispy but moist. They even provided a hot towel for your hands with the ribs. I would definitely go again, and on a very regular basis.

Went here with a group of 10 for a graduation dinner. The food was absolutely sublime. Everyone loved their meals. The cocktails were just amazing and can I just say, we consumed a LOT of different ones! Our waiter, Shima was professional and engaged with us all night and enjoyed our humour... Dinner took a while to come out and one entree we were committed to sold out but thats life just a sign of a busy establishment on their busiest night so no biggie. mix up at the bar meant a drink never arrived nothing major all made right by an excellent whiskey sour. Actually had a dessert for a change and it was honestly one of the top 5 desserts I have ever had . Good decor and vibe to the place was a very nice place to have a birthday dinner. Dropped in quite by chance and had a burger with green peppercorn sauce on the side. I was absolutely blown away by the burger. It really doesn't need any other sauce. It's a perfect creation on its own but the sauce was top notch anyway... I had to try it seeing as I had it on the plate. I would comfortably rate this as the best burger on the North Island. My wife had the peri peri chicken but although the sauce had the right flavour profile, it had no heat.... Which is very disappointing for a peri peri. Please introduce some heat options. Otherwise, excellent service. Absolutely worth a drive up from Wellington!!!! Great restaurant.

Nice atmosphere, super friendly staff and managers, huge chips, and generous portion overall. My favorite is the ribs (dinner menu only). Their espetada is also unique. Clean toilets too. Easy to reserve a table too. You will get a confirmation email about your booking too, so it's very handy in case you forget the booking details.

Went there for my birthday tea and was very impressed from the time we entered the restaurant to the time we left. Our server Kerry was outstanding, friendly, amicable and very helpful. We will definitely go back and highly recommend Little Savanah.

What a great surprise! Exceptional service and hospitality. Attentive waitress and very knowledgeable, forward thinking sommelier-waiter (Carey?) who took the time and effort to really make sure we each had wine that matched our respective orders and personal tastes. I haven’t been attended to SO well in Palmerston North for a long long time and so this dining experience was a breath of fresh air. My mother ordered the fish of the day - snapper - which was cooked to perfection and exquisitely presented. She declared (at the knowledgeable age of 76) that it was the best snapper she had ever had in her entire life. As it was a birthday celebration, this brought me great joy to hear! My seasonal vegetables, creamed spinach and sides were beautifully done - not an afterthought at all. We also appreciated the moderate level of noise (the music was low and varied enough to enjoy discussion), the roaring fireplace, ambient lighting and convivial atmosphere. The only fault in the experience was the interaction with the Manager, who could have done a much better job at letting us know when the sitting had finished. He would do well to learn from the finesse and presence of his junior staff.

A taste of Africa. An upmarket place ideal for romantic dinner or a group party. Be sure to book in advance as it is a popular place. Worth the wait for the food though. I have been to Little Savanna a few times, so it was a no-brainer to have my 30th there with some family. The food is delicious, the staff are always incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and professional, and the mood is always just right. We had a large table, and the staff were easily able to accommodate a highchair for us with a little notice beforehand. Thank you for yet another wonderful dining experience!

Little Savanna is a must visit restaurant. You will need to book as most sittings a very busy. For my wife's birthday we booked for lunch. The lady on the phone was polite and made a point of getting my name correct. We arrived slightly early but were promptly seated and attended to. The service was first rate and the young man made us feel welcome and didn't harry us to order. He took drinks orders and gave us some time to view the menu. We all ordered mains and waited for them to arrive. We were lucky the place wasn't packed and our mains arrived in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the Espetada, 250g of kewered Sirloin steak served suspended above your plate. I had no idea how to go about removing the meat but the service staff offered the appropriate procedure. Cooked on the pink side ( this was the recommended choice) and it was delicious. The really good thing about this birthday treat is my wife expressed a desire to return to try other delicacies on the menu. If you have room to squeeze in a dessert do so. My son and I managed and I'm not sure how, to pack in the Belgian waffles. Light and fluffy with a topping of cream and ice cream with a miniature jug of maple syrup. My wife attempted the Brulee. Friendly staff, great leather aprons. African themed. More than happy to recommend this restaurant and will be back again. There is plenty of parking close at hand. Make sure you book.

The set up is good here. Good atmosphere with a laid back and casual vibe. Service was also good though our server tried to remember everyones order and had to confirm the order a few times - we came with 7 people, not sure why he didn’t just write it down. I got the Espetada and came out cooked how I liked, potatoes were a bit average though and had me wishing I got the chips instead, but overall was a good meal. Desserts are pricey $14 for the size, probably not worth it unless you really want dessert.

As per my friends reviews below, I also would like to add to our experience. 6 of us dined at Little Savannah last night. We initially ordered drinks and they were delicious. We then ordered the flatbreads and olives as an entree. The flatbreads came out and one was wrong. The waiter who took our order knew immediately the issue and said we could have the wrong flatbreads on the house and he would bring the other bread and olives soon which we thought was nice. We then received our meals. Two friends got the lamb and they loved it, one got the pork belly which she also loved. I got the eye fillet steak which was ok. I asked for medium, and while it looked medium, it tasted dry which was disappointing. Also, the menu stated onion rings, but it was more a small pile of what I consider onion garnish. These are small issues I realise, but when you are paying over $40 for a steak; it better be amazing. Sadly, the evening turned to a sour note when my other friend tried to eat her burger. She had asked for it to be cooked well done, but it was soo overcooked, it was inedible. It was charred and crumbled when you tried to eat it. She raised her concerns to the waitress who was very sympathetic and said she would go away to talk to someone. She came back and said the chef had tried it and agreed. Then Jaimie came to the table, stood very close and over my friend and said “Tell me what was wrong with your meal” she explained and he said that he could offer her a free dessert. I then said that no, we won’t be eating dessert here, it will be too long a wait for her to get another main, so I think it’s best she doesn’t get charged for her meal. He then said “We can take off the $26. What’s $26 when you make $20k a night”. We were all shocked. While he listened and resolved the issue, the manner in which he did it was devoid of any warmth and frankly felt intimidating. He did not need to say “tell me what was wrong” when the waitress had already acknowledged the chef had tried the burger and agreed it was inedible. He did not need to stand over my friend, he should have got down on her level to speak to her, and he did not need to drop that they make so much so technically who cares about your little complaint. Neither of us will be dining there again. I suggest more effort is put in to effective customer complaint resolution. Namely, learning to treat your customers complaints with dignity and respect. Edit. My friend who made the booking received a call from the owner and the owner has very generously sent vouchers for us to dine there again. She also listened to my friends concerns. This is above and beyond to rectify the situation and is much appreciated. While we probably won’t go back again, we appreciate the aftercare. I still however, stand by my review, that Jamie needs to either spend more time learning how to deal with complaints effectively or get someone else to handle them.

Wow, this has got to be one of the true 5 star restaurants for casual yet high quality delicious food. Seriously you have to try this food. The layout, the atmosphere, the staff creates the most perfect night out in Palmerston North.

Fantastic place for dinner, the atmosphere was wonderful and the restaurant quite quiet, despite being reasonably full, so we could actually talk at a normal volume. We ordered the ribs to share between 2 with a side of sweet potato wedges. On the pricy side, but it filled us both up. Ribs were incredible as were the wedges, which are apparently made with sweet potatoes from South Africa! Excellent service from Stafford, would definitely go back.

Great place - nice setting, courtyard was cosy. Friendly helpful wait staff. Calamari and peri peri chicken were excellent, didn’t try steaks but liked good. Also the hanging mains looks great! The flatbread starters were very nice and flavoursome, fresh and warm too. I tried the Bunny chow aka beef bourguignon. The flavour gets a 9, presentation 9, however I feel there could be more mmeat and sauce in the bread roll. A Bunny chow is a curry in a half or quarter loaf bread, so love the concept of a bunny chow but would have like a bit more filling in the bread roll. Malva pudding was done pretty good, so will reccomend you try one.

We went last night for our daughters birthday (5th August), I had 6 cupcakes as her birthday cake and the staff took them away ready to bring them out at dessert time unbeknown to her. Went to Little Savanna for the first time last night for a work do, after hearing some rave reviews about it. Was not disappointed, the food was awesome, but just as important if not more so the service was the best I have experienced in a very long time. Our waitress George was AMAZING, faultless, attentive, friendly, incredible memory - when I swapped seats and then ran out of wine in my glass she grabbed by (mini!!) bottle from my original seat and topped me up. She was a credit to the restaurant, as were all the friendly staff, so well done. I will definitely be returning with my husband.

To be honest I dont think 5 stars does this place justice. The more stars the better. When you first walk in you you have a sense of a warm welcoming atmosphere. Almost instantly you are acknowledged and shown where you are seated. The waiter and waitresses have amazing service and clearly enjoy their jobs and know what they are doing. The refreshing part which I loved is seeing the owner get out and about amongst the tables, cleaning and talking to guests. The food, amazing, seriously try it, everything I've tried on the menu has been perfect everytime, including the amazing Apple Cigars for dessert. Honestly people this place is amazing. I recently dined for the first time after hearing lots of good things about the gluten free options. Our waiter was knowledgeable about allergies and was able to explain how things were cooked before I even asked. I like that most meals are adaptable for allergies. The only downside was when he told us that there was a gf option for the flatbread starter which cost about $9.50 and turned out to be one piece of gf bread toasted and we still got charged that amount. The food was overall tasty other than the bread. I also felt like the guy who came to remind us our time was up at the table (which is very clear when you book online) came geared up for an argument about it and started asking us who made the booking and telling us we should have seen the reminder at least four times during the booking process, without even waiting for us to respond to him first as we were apologetic that we hadn't noticed the time and happy to move off the table. Adding to this since I cannot reply to the owner's response: the point is who wants gf bread (who actually likes store bought gf bread?!?) when they're told they're getting flatbread... and the price for two pieces of bread is still ridiculous. Also not sure how I could have been "discussing the booking with him" when not given the chance to open my mouth??

Post covid, I've been perpetually underwhelmed by restaurant service but these guys reminded me what real restaurant service is about, polished, friendly, welcoming, and most importantly understood the cadence of service needed for someone dining alone. Amazing place! Becky is a superb waitress and went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed and was super friendly. Even took our groups photo. We had a large table and all the dishes were served timely and with massive portions. The sweet potato wedges were out of this world and the strawberry daiquiri is a must! Lovely food. Thoughtful presentation. Being gf with other food allergies, the wait staff were very attentive and came up with a number of options for me. I settled on the fish of the day, and was a little disappointed in my serving size. Just because I can't eat potatoes, it doesn't mean that I want a smaller serving. This was assuaged somewhat by the seasonings added to the fish. The dish was beautiful. For a restaurant with the reputation of being the second most expensive restaurant in Palmerston North, I did expect the environment to feel a little less like a pub restaurant.

Not quite what we had expected. People told us that Little Savanna is the place to go for decent steak. So we went. But our steak was flavourless and my espetada was unevenly cooked and equally bland. The manager listened to our feedback attentively and offered us a discount which we accepted. We ordered the waffles for dessert which was enjoyable but not overly exciting as far as waffles go. My recommendation to the managers and chefs: go and eat at Gauchos in Petone for flavoursome, perfectly cooked flame grilled meat. Those guys don't hold back. Don't serve up bland food because one or two people don't want too much salt. Little Savanna needs to up their game before we return.

The food was absolutely delicious, the staff were very attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere could not be faulted. Still a few areas to be improved on for this reltively young establishment - mains came before the entre was finished, which meant they got cold a bit earlier. Also, our table's bill was lost so we had to report what we had ordered. Overall though, the experience was good and the minor issues (while they should be improved upon) only took away from it slightly.

Our friend that booked even received a text to remind us. We ordered lemon,lime and bitters made on the premises, best I have ever I have tasted. Followed by garlic bread, then our mains, 3 of us had the Espetada’s sirloin steak on a skewer with garlic butter drizzling down the skewer, onion rings, sautéed potatoes and vegetables. One of us had the fish which was described as perfect. The main meal was outstanding in flavour and steak so tender. What an experience we are going back!!!

We can not speak more highly of little savanna. The food is delicious and the ease and understanding of LS when it comes to gluten free requests is amazing. It is so wonderful to go somewhere and have an array of GF options and not feel like a hassle. We have been here on three very different occasions, a date night birthday, a work do and a family celebration dinner (yes 2 kids in tow) and every time have been treated with the upmost professional, care and kindess. The owners deserve huge credit for creating such a proficent, kind, devine atmosphere and top class resturant in the manawatu. The chefs are high class and the wait staff nearly unbeliveable because of their over and above service. Nothing is hassle for them and tonight they even remembered and used our sons names and made conversation with them. A++ to Micheal this evening and Stafford for our staff do on Tuesday.
