Beautiful place (the decor and vibe makes up for the fact that there is no sea view), excellent service, staff was new/inexperienced but the manager was doing such a great job, we were attended by different staff members, each one of them made us feel like we were the only ones there even though it was quite busy. The pizzas were delicious, copious amounts of toppings and the base, so so good!! Even the gluten free base was delicious. We also tried their Tiramisu and Profiteroles, I highly recommend you leave some space for dessert as it was VERY nice.

This is a must visit in Russell. We loved it so much we went twice. Best place ever for great food and great service. The garden setting was so impressive and enjoyable, plenty of outdoors seating but always popular for good reason!! Food is so fresh and delicious!! Well done Hones Garden 🤗🌴🍕

Such a great setting! We went twice in our week at Russell. The gardens are gorgeous and in the shade are a welcome retreat from the scorching summer sun. We (including kids 14&11) enjoyed the food and garden. Second time, the waiter was so cool.

Such a lovely place, well decorated and with friendly staff. Sat outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather and ordered 2 pizzas and a side. 1. Chicken pizza 2. Little italy pizza Side - salt & pepper squid Chicken pizza - tasty, adequate amount of chicken chunks! Little italy - Loved the cheese and beef balls! But the base was so thin with it's watery tomato base that all my ingredients slid right off! Wasnt too easy to consume honestly. Tasty though! Squid - so so good. Wish it was a bigger portion!

3 of us on a motorcycle day ride went to Hones Garden today and had excellent pizzas. The Staff from the front gate to the Kitchen were top notch - efficient , friendly & professional. I’ve always had a great experience here and look forward to our next trip. Thanks team

Great casual spot and a nice addition to the offerings in Russell. Top-shelf food of the freshest quality and a good selection of drinks. Lots of curb appeal here — we drove past and it looked so nice we decided to try it. The atmosphere is laid back and welcoming, with service to match. Try the wood-fired pizza and Caprese salad with buffalo mozzarella. Both were delicious. The Tamarillo cider on offer was a nice touch. Would definitely return.

Was recommended Hōne's Garden by a friend and we were blown away. Firstly by the gorgeous setting and the warm welcome and secondly by the exceptional service... best I've ever experienced in NZ. The staff were so fun, friendly & attentive, without being overbearing. The food was all amazing, especially the pizzas, the burrata salad and the squid. Please start selling your jalapeño chutney, we couldn't get enough of it! The drinks list was very varied too and if we didn't have a small baby to tackle, we would have easily worked our way though all the beers!! So so impressed with every aspect of our visit and can't wait to visit again when we're next in Russell. Thanks so much

If you're looking for a laid back atmosphere, superb beer and even better pizza then look no further! This gem in Russell always passes the vibe check. Music is on point, lighting is intimate and the service is impeccable.

Super impressed! Drinks came out within minutes of ordering, and food was about 15mins after. Everything we ordered was amazing! Would highly recommend going here if you’re in Russell.

Beautiful alfresco dining garden, excellent food, well priced, fresh. I was told the chef is Italian, probably that’s why the food is so good. Friendly host and staff. I will honestly recommend!

Had the calamari and a white pizza. Really lovely food to enjoy in relaxedd semi garden semi covered area. Staff were friendly. Definitely worth visiting when in Russell.

Great atmosphere, good craft beer selection, and delightful handmade pizza. Several vegan options, including option of a vegan cheese on pizzas We had a white base one with vegan cheese - I am not vegan (hubby is) but honestly wouldn’t have been able to tell the difference. Would definitely come again & recommend to any friends in the area. Only downside was people smoking in the courtyard...

Great experience!! Pizzas were super tasty, the homemade Tiramisu was sooooo good, oysters were fresh as and the wine was delicious. On top of that the waiter was lovely! The place is adorable, highly recommended!!

Quirky little pizzeria in the back streets of Russell, where you will find super friendly staff that make one of the best wood fired pizzas I've ever had. The setting is pretty cool and comfortable. Small tables for 2 to 4 or super large wooden tables for large groups. I will diffenitly go back. 👍

I’d say one of the best pizzas I’ve ever eaten and given that last year we toured Italy this really is a big compliment! Servers were super friendly and helpful. They have a range of rotating craft beers so if that’s your thing you’ll be pretty happy here. The setting is great - a beautiful back garden away from the street. We’ll be back!

This is the place to go if you are in Russell. The pizza was amazing! The staff were so friendly and professional - the would arrange the pizza as you would like as well. It was so gooood (I’ve wanted tomato instead of bbq sauce and they kindly changed it for me). I saw a woman breaking a glass but they were nice and quickly cleaned up. The decoration of the place was really pretty as well (I think it would look even cuter in the evening). The price was... hmmm I wouldn’t say it’s cheap but reasonable for sure. I went this place as it was recommended by the local person and I would definitely go back if I’m in Russell again.

Great spot in Russel. Lovely al fresco dining and food came out really quick! We enjoyed the Parma ham, mozzarella and caramelized onion pizza; thin wood fired crust so the flavor of the toppings really shined. Salt & pepper squid was good but had a unique citrus taste, not sure I’d order it again. Chips were great, well battered and great aioli. And maybe most important very cold drinks! 🍻

I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the pizza was! I love really spicy pizza so I was only left with one choice, salami, olives and jalapeños but I was not disappointed! For a small outfit, they have really nailed how to give the best and most efficient service. No table service, but you don’t really miss it. Great beer and wine. I’m sure we will be back in a few days!

After a day out on the water all you want is a cold drink and a comfortable place to rest. Hone's delivers all this plus great tasting food, good service and a kick-@ss garden bar. Beautifully created ambience that is under some really old trees with lights and different types of seating. Just get some live music and I might never leave. But wait there's more! The kumara chips and aioli are the best I've ever had. Crunchy, herby goodness mmmmmm

What delicious meals. A great place to eat. Friendly staff, chilled atmosphere. We sat outside under the heater and did not need the throws provided on a winter evening. Pulled pork tacos, caprice salad and crispy kumara wedges were all fresh and super tasty. Highly recommend.

This place is a must to visit restaurant in russell. Have had the shelled oysters at least a dozen times. Think they're responsible for putting on my extra kilos of weight. Do yourself a favor and bring an L&P, order some seafood and some chips and you're set for the day. The variety is excellent. The staff is wonderful and very attentive. Quality of food is above average for the area and priced Right. You can't go wrong with hones garden.

Good place - landscaping is fabulous and I would think this place will always be the right temperature even on the hottest days. Good beer selection, salt and pepper squid was excellent and the pizzas are nice.

Pizza and calzone were delicious! Staff were friendly. But their $24 Beef Lasagne was smaller than what you can get frozen at the supermarket and was not fresh, the salad they served with it was old and withered! I told them but unfortunately did not have time to wait around for the situation to be amended, and you have to pay for your order first before it is placed.

Loved the food and the drinks but also the outstanding friendliness of the staff, in particular the bartender, made my partner and I feel welcome. High five!! to the team. Will go there again when the weather is much warmer.

Going through photos from my January 2019 cruise that included anchorage in Russell. My friend and I were fortunate enough to find Hone's Garden. The ham, olive, artichoke and mushroom pizza is most likely the best pizza I ever had. Enjoy!

Very beautiful setting, you’re seated amongst nature which is lovely. The pizzas were gorgeous and unique in taste but the price is definitely at the higher end for pizzas. I’d say they’re medium sized and nearly $30ea. We were seated in a small room with five tables squeezed in which unfortunately left us feeling uncomfortably close to others, that was very unpleasant and brought the experience down for us. It is also the most self service restaurant we’ve been to. You have to grab your own plates, water (not as strange) and pay up front for your meal then pay again separately each time you get another drink. It’s a lot of extra effort and quite unusual for NZ restaurants.

Definitely my favourite restaurant in Russell. Stunning location, great food and friendly staff. Go for the pizza but off you’re nota pizza fan, then go for the fish and chips, as they are amazing! Really great selection of wines and also kid friendly. What more could you ask for!?!

Eat here, at least once. Vibrant, upbeat, would do well in any major city. This is no tourist trap. Best calzone I think I have ever had, freshest pizza dough and regularly rotating craft taps. Good for just a drink too. Not just for the young and loud though, it was actually recommended to me by my mother in law.

Wow, what a total gem! A beautiful garden setting to eat, pizza came out hot, delicious and super quick, and the staff were so lovely. They even brought out a bowl of water for our dogs. Couldn't reccomend highly enough!

Delicious pizza. Great ambience. But be prepared to wait for ~45min to get your order delivered. It’s so popular, that you end up in long waiting queues.

Hone's Garden is a great casual spot in Russell. Over the high season, there is often a queue to get in at opening time, and to place your order. But the pizzas come out quickly, and are very good. There is a decent selection of drinks. Hone's is family friendly. The only down side is that not all the outdoor seating is under sufficient shelter if it rains!

The calzone was delicious, the beer was good and the vibe was perfect after a sweaty walk to Takepa, highly recommended.

Beyond fantastic garden of pizza and beers. Gorgeous and warm staff in a oasis of long tables and palm trees. Food is super good. Anchovy olive and caper is Gucci and then some. They the salads are great. Local beers hit the summer spot.

Scenic place for a lunch. The wood oven pizza is like a real Italian one. Thin dough with tasty ingredients.

Pizzas were ok but I thought quite stingy with the amount of topping. We had the chicken and red onion. Some slices had no chicken at all and some had a couple or three. We counted the red onion to be about 6 slices. Nice place though.

This is one of places you almost want to keep secret, but then you also want the business to be a success! Hone's has such a relaxed and happy vibe, its our favourite place in Russell. The pizzas are great, we especially liked the white pizzas. (No tomato base, cream based instead). The Kumara chips are also so good!!! Nothing nicer than being on holiday with a cold craft beer and some of Hone's kumara chips. The staff are also awesome :-).

A most amazing Italian festival today with Asia singing in Italian with her band,guitar player who is the pizza chef. Oh my word it was just the best! And the food was just beautiful! Thanks Hones!!!

Came here for lunch and was absolutely amazed at the setup. The staff here were awesome and great community people. When we were there a neighbourhood dog came in and one of the staff walked him home. The dog then came back about 15 minutes later only to be walked home again. Most cafe staff would have just shooed him out. I thought this showed great community spirit. The food here was absolutely wonderful and the garden itself is such a great spot. Well done guys. I would highly recommend this cafe. Also the wine was pretty nice too.

Hone’s outdoor garden restaurant offers relaxed casual dining and is ideal for larger groups and families. It is famous for its wood fired pizzas but has other menu items. There is also a good selection of local beers.

Best pizza in Bay of Island and Northland Multiple Italian style pizza style choices (I am Italian) . Service is fast, staff is friendly and professional. Location is top, in a garden away from the main street. A great discovery, we'll be back.

Great pizza. They cater for gluten free and dairy free customers. Always got some great beers on tap that regularly change. Great setting, the garden is brilliant whether your a couple or a large group. We'll be back soon

After a recommendation from Ken at Barbeque BOI, we made a special trip over. What a great decision that was. Best Pizza I've ever had, and we eat and make a lot of pizza. Keep doing what you're doing, that was INCREDIBLE! Definitely coming back.

Food done right, amazing environment and great staff

This is a superb little spot in Russell. The atmosphere is casual, relaxed, and very friendly; a great hangout spot. When the weather is stunning like the day I went it is a perfect little spot for some lunch, or dinner, and a couple of drinks. The woodfire pizza is delicious, and traditional Italian style, so nice simple toppings. Highly recommend this place if you want a trendy place which has a casual relaxed atmosphere.

Really good. Quite a long queue to order but was a public holiday Sunday in January. Food was very good and a nice setting. Ordering more drinks was curiously difficult so they lost some sales for certain but the beer we did have was excellent.

The kumara fries here are definitely the best I have ever tasted. Crunchy on the outside (which is rare for kumara) and soft on the inside. The pizza is delicious too.

A day in The Bay of Islands from the cruise ship. We took the ferry across from Paihia to Russell. Friends had recommended this pizza place after visiting a few cruises before! Great pizzas cooked to order. And they were happy to make up a special for me [allergy to dairy and tomatoes, which makes pizzas difficult!]. Friendly service. Yummy.

Great place for wood fired pizza. The crust is crisp and light with awesome fresh/gourmet toppings. The oysters we had there were also extra fresh and delicious. Thanks guys, we'll be back!

Small, but good, selection of craft beer on tap. The garden has grown in since it opened and it's now a really nice space to relax and have a pint. I'm yet to try the food, so can't comment on that.

The service was good and fast, Good location. Pizza was just base and sauce. I have ordered the chicken Pizza and it had only three very small chicken peaces. For the price you are charging there will be no hard to add some more fillings to the pizza.

Very cosy backyard "garden", cool design. Pub Style, you order at the bar. The food is then brought to you. The pizza took about 30 minutes, but was well worth the wait. Good beer, friendly staff.

Great place in the centre of Russell to have some pizzas and drinks in an alfresco setting. The kids didn't really like any of the food of the more fancy waterfront restaurant, so we ended up here and were really happy to discover that they were able to produce outstanding pizzas. A surprise find and highly recommended.

This is a lovely restaurant which served fresh wood oven pizza. We arrived at just before 12 by chance and it opened at 12, at which point the place was nearly full, so obviously popular. Half the area is covered and half has sunbrellas and all is covered over by trees. Tropical garden feel. Lots of different pizzas including gluten free GF and 3 cabinet salads. Microbrewery beers on tap. Had a lovely lunch.

Such a gorgeous place, the friendliest staff, the best music and I swear the gluten free pizza is better then any other regular pizza. We'll be back for sure.

Hidden away down an alley behind a swanky seafront restaurant. The only bar on the island that's had some recent investment with modern amenities, well stocked bar and great atmosphere. 10/10 team behind the bar and in the kitchen. Plenty of sunshine in the backyard to make up for the lack of sea view. Free WiFi. Great spot!

The pizza with beef carpaccio, truffle and mushrooms was the best pizza I had in years. Just excellent. We had it for takeaways, but the garden looked lovely too!

Super sick garden bar! Pizzas looked good, but the kitchen is closed from 3 to 5 even though it says all day on the menu.

Tucked away between the Gables and an historic church, is the back entrance to a beer and pizza wonderland of mystical proportions. Unlike its namesake, Hone’s vibe is warm and welcoming. The bar shares visual space with an open kitchen, from where the most delectable gourmet pizzas are ferried to waiting mouths for greedy inhalation. Patrons engage in the battle of the bulge while seated at rustic tables amidst a garden of succulents. A cosy nook offers deep cushioned comfort and serves as a romantic recovery area. Wash away your gleeful sins with a craft brew or fine Kiwi vino. After all, you’re on holidays in Russel; so forget the hell of dietary discipline and live life a little while here! Tip: If travelling down the Main Street, the entrance to Hone’s is a lot easier to spot. Just look for the vertical garden of succulents, pretty much opposite the Four Square grocery store.

A self service model. Great setting with lovely garden features. Food hit the spot and delivers to expectations. Friendly and efficient service. We will come again.

We loved this secret tropical garden setting. Delicious wood fired pizzas created by an expert Italian pizza thrower, craft beers on tap and friendly staff. A must when in Russell.

Tucked away behind the gables this is a little gem of a place offering shaded outdoor dining and great pizzas, can get a little busy and it’s walk to the bar and order service but that should not stop you giving this place a go

Had the calzone, it was great. Portion was so big I had to take half of it home and it was terrific again the next day. The service was great and we were treated very kindly. I would go back.

So amazingly good. Food is epic and the servivkce is excellent. Awesome little outdoor setting as well, very much enjoyed by the whole family.

The food was good, but the service concept is strange. You have to pick a seat for yourself. No service will come to you and you need to find a menu card on your own. Then you have to stand in line to order food & drinks at the bar and pay directly. On a busy day it can take up to 15-20 minutes. After that you can go back to your table with your drinks and wait for the food. The food are brought by service staff. If you want to drink something more, you have to go back in the line.

Food was ok,not wow. Pizzas we're a bit hit and miss with the quantity of the toppings.squid could of had a bit of salad.

Pizza like in Napoli. Didn’t expect this excellent pizza so far away from Italy. Only too bad that we couldn’t get another Pizza at 21:05 (while the restaurant is open until 22:30 and the pizza oven was still in use).

Nice food and a great environment. W did have a big delay once and cold food as a result, they weren't really interested in solving the issue. Assuming all goes smoothly it's a nice place. Not overly cheap tho.

This place is amazing. I've know idea how they managed to feed about a million people at once, with lots of great food and dollops of good humour. Magic!!!

Hone's was a surprising find in Russell. The garden bar is pretty casual - serving basic, but tasty food at a reasonable price. The highlight, though, was the amazing range of craft beers available. Quite the treat!

Wow...close your eyes and you could be in the Mediterranean! Pizza is awesome, beer is awesome, saldbis awesome, kumara chips are to die for...just awesome!!!!

One of the best pizzas I've had here in NZ, with a great selection of craft beers set in beautiful surroundings.

First experience for me here and whilst it was takeaway everything was excellent. Great staff attitude, 10 minutes waiting for pizzas to be made and DELICIOUS.

Good but not quite 100%. Pizzas were well cooked with good crusts but the meat wasn't up to scratch. Their copa was not made from the right cut of meat and the salami was crap.
