We stopped in at El Chapo Mexican restaurant on our way south, and had the most delicious meal and a great conversation with the owner, a man from Jordan 🇯🇴 who came to New Zealand and lived in Auckland for 8 years then moved to Taihape to start a Mexican food restaurant! Who knew that a man from Jordan could cook such magnificent Mexican food?!! Highly recommend! 😋

If you pass through Taihape, you have to stop in here. These are proper tacos made with the freshest ingredients. I might sound like an ad, but I really like this place. He has vegan options as well if you're into that. Next, I need to try his guacamole and his pinto beans. It's quick and easy to stop in and grab something to go, but he has a few seats as well to sit and enjoy your meal.

Bloody delicious! Can’t go through Taihape without stopping in for carnitas pork tacos! Staff are super friendly, cannot recommend el chapo enough!

Quantity good. Hospitality good. But meat was quite dry. Content says guacamole, but couldn't locate it or was just a small pinch to be able to write in the menu. Overall OK, but not enough for a return visit.

Service, and food is good here. However I do want to note that the server is wearing the same gloves for a long time even when using eftpos and touching gear. The state of gloves was definitely not a new one. The server was also touching face while serving which put me off a bit. Please change gloves with each service. It is worse than using clean hands without gloves.

Epic place to stop for a quick feed! We got x2 burritos and tacos and all were delicious. Strongly recommend. The server was a cool as character and put in some extras to make our night. Very stoked.

The Nachos are mean as I'm from Auckland and they're better than most of the places I've been up there. Heaps of flavour. Chur.

Have bought the loaded nachos several times now, they are absolutely delicious, lots of lovely fresh ingredients, the guacamole is equally as delicious and the service is always fantastic. Portions are also very generous.

The absolute legend made the best tacos I’ve ever had and had great customer service. I would recommend to everyone

Fantastic food and service that was more than a smile and such a pleasant experience! The spice lovers with me were very happy, and I enjoyed my tacos on the mild side, just awesome.

Didn't expect to see a Mexican food joint in Taihape. Was pleasantly surprised, the owner is lovely, very friendly and makes great burritos. Will definitely stop by next time I'm passing through.
